When you first walkup to the hotel, you are met with a very rustic, cabin-esque hotel building where you wouldn't expect to find such a fine dining experience. We were sat outside which presented the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sawtooth Mountain range. We ordered several dishes for our meal and every dish was just as amazing as the other! Bigwood Baguette: This was a great start to the meal! The baguette was baked to perfection and had the perfect amount of crunch to it. It comes topped with an herb oil and sea salt which added the most flavorful touch. Soup of the Day: Their soup of the day was a White Bean stew topped with rosemary and hern olive oil. The stew was rich without being too heavy and the seasoning was perfect. Soy Glazed Brussels: The soy sweet chili glaze had such a nice balance of sweetness and the slightest hint of spice. The crispy rice noodles and crumbled peanuts added such a nice textural contrast to the Brussel sprouts, which in my opinion were cooked to perfection! They were seared well without being too burnt or crispy. Beets & Burrata: Hands down one of the highlights of the whole meal. This dish came with a handful of components, that when paired together into one bite on a crostini, resulted in the most delicious amuse-bouche. The burrata was so light and fresh and I never knew that it was the perfect pairing with beets on a crostini. A MUST have. Columbia River Grilled Steelhead: Absolutely stunning. The Steelhead was executed beautifully and the mushroom asparagus risotto was cooked to perfection. Honestly, compliments to the chef for what seemed to almost be an experimental pairing with adding the sweet pesto and blueberry gastrique. Never could have I imagined these flavors being paired together atop a piece of salmon and I will not ever soon forget how flawless this dish was. Pork Schnitzel: This was my husband's dish which I did not have a bite of, but from what I could tell, the Pork Schnitzel was very well done. It was thinned out and tenderized very well and the breading looked like it was golden-crisped wonderfully. I did get to try the mashed potatoes and can remark that they were some of the best I've had! I had some of the lemon caper beurre blanc that was drizzled atop the dish and I would do anything to be able to have a jar of that at home. I am going to talk about this meal for a long time. If you are ever passing through Stanley, Idaho, it would be a giant mistake to not visit the restaurant at the Sawtooth Hotel.

It included a queen sized bed, a chair for relaxing, a desk for working, a private bath and access to the outside balcony. Rooms are decorated in the rustic, log built furnishings that one would expect. Reservations are made by calling in to the office. They are prepaid with a door access code sent to your phone the day of arrival. There is a central area for gathering with tables, chairs and a fireplace. There is a hot tub available. Some rooms are pet friendly. The WiFi worked good. The facility does not have elevators so having a room on the second floor requires carrying luggage up the stairs. The room had an air conditioner but it was a floor unit, not a wall unit. In all I enjoyed my stay here and would choose again if back in the area.

Spectacular Setting & Five-Star Service--with Some Upkeep Needed…read more If soaking in a natural hot spring while staring straight at Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains sounds like heaven, Mountain Village Resort is pretty darn close. We experienced the hot springs twice during our family visit to Stanley, and the setting is absolutely spectacular. There are three pools--two private pools, Bluebird and Sandhill Crane, plus the original Osprey pool, which is communal. The private experience is especially wonderful: you pick up a key at the front desk, unlock your pool, open the large garage-style door and suddenly the Sawtooths are your backdrop. Gorgeous! Our first reservation was Sandhill Crane at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and unfortunately it wasn't the best experience. By that point in the day, the water was considerably cooler than we wanted and visibly needed attention. There was residue from previous bathers on the surface, the pool felt slimy, and we couldn't see the gravel bottom. We ended up moving over to Osprey, which was much hotter and felt wonderful, although you give up the privacy. Lesson learned: book earlier! We returned Tuesday for an 11 a.m. reservation at Bluebird, and the difference was remarkable. The water was clean, wonderfully hot, and we could clearly see the gravel bottom. With the garage door open, soaking in that beautiful mineral water while looking across the valley toward the mountains was truly one of the highlights of our Idaho trip. The biggest standout, however, was the staff. My 86-year-old mother was with us, and the pools require a fairly substantial walk from the resort over uneven terrain. Brandon on Sunday and Sarah on Tuesday graciously transported us in the resort van. That kindness made it possible for Mom to enjoy the experience with us, and we were incredibly grateful. Five-star hospitality from both of them. There is room for improvement. At Bluebird, the wooden steps entering the pool were quite slick, and the handrail did not feel securely anchored. With wet surfaces and guests of varying ages and mobility, that really should be addressed. Sandhill Crane could also use more attention to water temperature and cleanliness between reservations. So, not perfect--but when everything came together at Bluebird, WOW. Natural hot water, fresh mountain air, privacy and that magnificent Sawtooth view? Pretty magical. Go early, book a private pool, and give yourself time to simply soak it all in. Life is too short. Travel well. Soak well. Get out there and find your next adventure!

Came with friends to hike the Sawtooths for a couple of days. Cabin had 2 queen beds: one in the…read moremain room and one in enclosed bedroom. Electric baseboard heat. Cabin was clean, and the venue quiet, but could have used some TLC: Kitchenette sink and shower water supplies are hooked backwards (cold where hot should be). Not a big deal in the kitchenette, but a scald hazard in the shower. Electric outlet near the kitchenette sink was defective -- only one side of the duplex outlet worked. And the lighting over the table was horrible. Difficult or impossible to do any reading or play games that required reading without using our headlamps. Bedroom door difficult to close against the threadbare carpet underneath it. Needs some attention from a circular saw. Entry door locks have also seen better days; I suspect the fit between the locks and their strike plates was better when first installed. Perhaps previous guests have made off with a mid-sized pot from the kitchenette? All we found was a large pot (sufficient for cooking pasta) and one sized for a pint's cooking. Something in-between would be a great addition.

We called in as we were driving towards Stanley from Craters of the Moon and realized we would not make it in time for the checkin which ends at 10pm. We asked them what was their procedure for late checkin. No other way to put it but: "We were interrogated for 15 minutes on the phone. We were told in a threatening way that we would be thrown out in the night if there are more people than the ones allowed in the rooms." There is a way to talk to people and this is not how to talk to someone who has booked 3 already paid for rooms in your hotel and are stuck in bad rain/snow weather and are requesting a late checkin. The rooms by themselves were clean. Hot water was available. No instructions were left for internet.

Our cabin was nestled right next to the river, overlooking gorgeous unbroken views of the surrounding valley and snow frosted Sawtooth mountains. At night there were millions of stars, so bright & big you felt like you could reach out and touch them. Our cabin was a delight. It was clean clean clean, brand new ultra comfy mattresses, with soft, fluffy linens complemented the rustic golden original pine walls, ceilings and decor. Intelligent planning blended the best of the old with the new. We loved having a well stocked little kitchen with all the necessary tools & equipment to help you feel comfortable if you wanted to cook. So enjoyed sitting on our personal deck, drinking the delicious coffee and nibbling on the chocolates they gave us, while watching the morning mist rise up off the river. It looked like a magical fairyland. The places to hike to were endless. We Loved the bird watching! We even hung out with a bald eagle while strolling along Redfish Lake. Highly recommend enjoying the brand new sauna. It gets HOT! Then if you're into cardiac arrest you can jump into the river or do the cold plunge barrel. The large middle cabin with its larger kitchen, rooms and spacious deck also overlooking the river, provided the perfect meeting center for our group (we varied from 10-18) to gather for meals, games and sharing the day's events.
