REVIEW UPDATE: I feel qualified to update my old 3 star…read morereview from 2017, and change it to a 5 star in 2026. I have stayed at the hotel and have had friends stay recently (in 2026), after new management took over. I have dined at the restaurant recently in August 2026. And today (August 8th 2026) we had the benefit of seeing the kind of people that now own and run the establishment. First, it is the best place to stay in Lowman. The lodging is clean, nice, and there is fun stuff to do at the lodge, or nearby. Rent side-by-sides, hike, hot springs, ride motorcycles, fish, play games, and more. It is a beautiful place to stay. And it appears they have fixed old problems I experienced when staying there many years ago. The dining is great. We had an amazing dinner, ate outside, with nice views, and great food. And the staff are ALL friendly. It is a very homey atmosphere. Last, the character of the people that now own the place and work there was put to the test, and they scored high! My wife's family now has access to a local cabin, so we did not need to find lodging this summer. During a day trip, on the way back to Lowman from Idaho City, right as they were coming up on the Southfork Lodge, a friend of ours traveling with my wife became very ill. Our friend vomited, and then passed out. She was breathing, but could not be revived, for easily 45 minutes. It was scary for a while. Nick (an owner) and Jenn (who I believe is a manager there) from the Southfork Lodge came out to the parking lot to help, and monitor things. They stayed onsite as the fiasco unfolded. An ambulance came, and a LifeFlight helicopter eventually came! Nick and Jenn came in and out while trying to run their business to check and see if they could help, and to see what the status was. Our friend ultimately came back around, woke up, and was aware, and decided not to fly to the hospital in Boise. She is doing OK, and has been resting all night. It is obvious why people try and have tasty food in their restaurant, and offer nice lodgings and fun stuff to do. It is to make money. New ownership seems to pay attention to details way better than old ownership. But you don't get paid to be a decent human being, and to care about others. Stay here if you want nice lodging, good food, fun stuff to do, and to know that the people that own and run the place care about people. We'll go back next Summer, to eat, hang out, have a drink, refer friends for lodging, and to deal with good people.

Came with friends to hike the Sawtooths for a couple of days. Cabin had 2 queen beds: one in the…read moremain room and one in enclosed bedroom. Electric baseboard heat. Cabin was clean, and the venue quiet, but could have used some TLC: Kitchenette sink and shower water supplies are hooked backwards (cold where hot should be). Not a big deal in the kitchenette, but a scald hazard in the shower. Electric outlet near the kitchenette sink was defective -- only one side of the duplex outlet worked. And the lighting over the table was horrible. Difficult or impossible to do any reading or play games that required reading without using our headlamps. Bedroom door difficult to close against the threadbare carpet underneath it. Needs some attention from a circular saw. Entry door locks have also seen better days; I suspect the fit between the locks and their strike plates was better when first installed. Perhaps previous guests have made off with a mid-sized pot from the kitchenette? All we found was a large pot (sufficient for cooking pasta) and one sized for a pint's cooking. Something in-between would be a great addition.

I thought the food was great! Yes, it is basic, it is sandwiches, and there are not proper entrees. Again, if you want a high end experience, go find a steakhouse in Boise. The Sourdough is simple. The servers were all friendly, at least to me. Shout out to Lacy, thanks for helping our big table, and being so efficient. If you need a solid meal and beer in Lowman, stop in! P.S. I came here looking for some tin foil to line a pan, to cook some steaks in our cabin nearby. They were out of tin foil in their convenience store area. The owner asked me to wait a minute, and went back to the kitchen and tore off a big sheet of tin foil, and gave it to me! So if you like good people, another reason to stop in.

When you first walkup to the hotel, you are met with a very rustic, cabin-esque hotel building where you wouldn't expect to find such a fine dining experience. We were sat outside which presented the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sawtooth Mountain range. We ordered several dishes for our meal and every dish was just as amazing as the other! Bigwood Baguette: This was a great start to the meal! The baguette was baked to perfection and had the perfect amount of crunch to it. It comes topped with an herb oil and sea salt which added the most flavorful touch. Soup of the Day: Their soup of the day was a White Bean stew topped with rosemary and hern olive oil. The stew was rich without being too heavy and the seasoning was perfect. Soy Glazed Brussels: The soy sweet chili glaze had such a nice balance of sweetness and the slightest hint of spice. The crispy rice noodles and crumbled peanuts added such a nice textural contrast to the Brussel sprouts, which in my opinion were cooked to perfection! They were seared well without being too burnt or crispy. Beets & Burrata: Hands down one of the highlights of the whole meal. This dish came with a handful of components, that when paired together into one bite on a crostini, resulted in the most delicious amuse-bouche. The burrata was so light and fresh and I never knew that it was the perfect pairing with beets on a crostini. A MUST have. Columbia River Grilled Steelhead: Absolutely stunning. The Steelhead was executed beautifully and the mushroom asparagus risotto was cooked to perfection. Honestly, compliments to the chef for what seemed to almost be an experimental pairing with adding the sweet pesto and blueberry gastrique. Never could have I imagined these flavors being paired together atop a piece of salmon and I will not ever soon forget how flawless this dish was. Pork Schnitzel: This was my husband's dish which I did not have a bite of, but from what I could tell, the Pork Schnitzel was very well done. It was thinned out and tenderized very well and the breading looked like it was golden-crisped wonderfully. I did get to try the mashed potatoes and can remark that they were some of the best I've had! I had some of the lemon caper beurre blanc that was drizzled atop the dish and I would do anything to be able to have a jar of that at home. I am going to talk about this meal for a long time.
