Spectacular Setting & Five-Star Service--with Some Upkeep Needed…read more If soaking in a natural hot spring while staring straight at Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains sounds like heaven, Mountain Village Resort is pretty darn close. We experienced the hot springs twice during our family visit to Stanley, and the setting is absolutely spectacular. There are three pools--two private pools, Bluebird and Sandhill Crane, plus the original Osprey pool, which is communal. The private experience is especially wonderful: you pick up a key at the front desk, unlock your pool, open the large garage-style door and suddenly the Sawtooths are your backdrop. Gorgeous! Our first reservation was Sandhill Crane at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and unfortunately it wasn't the best experience. By that point in the day, the water was considerably cooler than we wanted and visibly needed attention. There was residue from previous bathers on the surface, the pool felt slimy, and we couldn't see the gravel bottom. We ended up moving over to Osprey, which was much hotter and felt wonderful, although you give up the privacy. Lesson learned: book earlier! We returned Tuesday for an 11 a.m. reservation at Bluebird, and the difference was remarkable. The water was clean, wonderfully hot, and we could clearly see the gravel bottom. With the garage door open, soaking in that beautiful mineral water while looking across the valley toward the mountains was truly one of the highlights of our Idaho trip. The biggest standout, however, was the staff. My 86-year-old mother was with us, and the pools require a fairly substantial walk from the resort over uneven terrain. Brandon on Sunday and Sarah on Tuesday graciously transported us in the resort van. That kindness made it possible for Mom to enjoy the experience with us, and we were incredibly grateful. Five-star hospitality from both of them. There is room for improvement. At Bluebird, the wooden steps entering the pool were quite slick, and the handrail did not feel securely anchored. With wet surfaces and guests of varying ages and mobility, that really should be addressed. Sandhill Crane could also use more attention to water temperature and cleanliness between reservations. So, not perfect--but when everything came together at Bluebird, WOW. Natural hot water, fresh mountain air, privacy and that magnificent Sawtooth view? Pretty magical. Go early, book a private pool, and give yourself time to simply soak it all in. Life is too short. Travel well. Soak well. Get out there and find your next adventure!

It's fairly small,…read moreprobably less than 10 camping spots on the whole site, so if you snag one...you are a lucky duck (all sites are first come, first serve). This campground has gorgeous pines throughout and sits right on the edge of Little Red Fish Lake. Cost: I came here with a fairly large group of people (16), so we had to snag two camping spots. They only allow one car per site, but you can purchase extra parking passes if necessary. We paid $18 per spot per day and $9 for each additional car. (You'll want to bring cash with you to pay, as there is no way to pay for the sites via cc or check!) ETC: - No showers (wah, wah), but if you're going into the Idaho wilderness, you might as well be ready to rough it, amiright?? - They do however have bathrooms with stalls, a sink, and a mirror (for a camp-sight, these bathrooms are very well kept and clean #PRAISE). - Access to drinkable water. - Firewood for purchase on sight ($7 a bundle). - Each camp-sight comes equipped with a firepit and picnic tables. - Bonus: lots of trees, so if you have a hammock, be sure to bring it along with you!

It is wonderfully peaceful and absolutely breathtaking. Fishing was great, the lake allows motors although we only saw a few kayaks. Husband caught a few trout and they were yummy. The views of the mountains will keep you captivated for hours. We camped in our very large 30 for trailer and fit just fine. Host was very nice and sells firewood for $7. The very small town of Stanley is close by with gas, a couple restaurants and a market, but bring what you need because there isn't a lot of choice. This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we have ever stayed at.

Accommodations include cabins, yurts, meadow camping and spaces for RVs. Prices are different for each and are fair. We stayed over two nights (RV space and cabin) over the Labor Day weekend/week and had a nice time! The grounds were clean and quiet even during a busy time. All the RV spaces seemed suitable and were nicely sized with full hook ups available. The night we stayed in a cabin (cabin 3), we found it to be comfortable and clean, with three beds (two queens and a full bed jn the loft - you must climb a small ladder to go up there), a full bathroom with shower, a wood burning stove for heat, and some seating. There were a couple power outlets available. Electricity is available from 7am-10pm. On site there is a restaurant which has surprisingly excellent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We enjoyed such things as a breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, a burger and a reuben sandwich. Sodas, waters, beer and wine are available. They have fantastic milkshakes as well (try the Huckleberry!). Prices were good and service as well. There is a geothermal pool on site as well (rules apply and a waiver) which we enjoyed. Jesse (the manager) was awesome, friendly and informative (especially about news/updated with regard to our backpacking trip) and all staff/crew was great as well.

Wow, oh wow, oh wow! What an experience this was! Staying at this yurt was one heck of a way to…read morekick off the winter season. This yurt - named after the man responsible for the entire six-yurt system just north of Idaho City - is hidden away three miles in the Idaho City backcountry. During the winter months, this yurt is ideal for snowshoers and backcountry skiers. (Although, I wouldn't suggest trying to ski to it as it has a lofty climb towards the end of your ascent.) Every part of this experience was lovely. The hike in was fun and challenging, the yurt is housed with more than enough amenities necessary to make for a comfortable stay, and the views are priceless! This experience was not glamping by any means, but I wouldn't quite call it roughin' it in the wilderness. It falls somewhere between the two. It requires a 3 mile trek, is located out of cell phone service, houses no running water, no electricity, and its restroom facility is a permanent outhouse 20 yards away from the yurt which has no door (the most scenic view you'll ever have while using the restroom, IMO). Once you are in the yurt you'll find two sets of bunk beds, a futon, table, chairs, a kitchenette stocked with cups, mugs, knives, forks, plates, paper towels, pots and pans, as well as a wood fire stove (along with more than enough wood to keep it running) and a mini propane stove. This yurt is also stocked with board games, coloring pencils, and a journal so you can share your experience with future yurt patrons. The Hennessy yurt is brilliantly located on a peak that overlooks Pilots Peak, Sunset Peak, Trinity Mountains, Steele Mountain, Wolf Mountain and the Crooked River Valley. Watching the sunrise from the deck was unlike anything I've ever seen. There was a thick layer of mist that sat on the trees below us - it actually felt like we were up in the clouds! Other thoughts/things to note: - I was concerned that I would be cold throughout this experience, but I didn't even come close! Snowshoeing in made me work up a sweat, and the wood fire stove kept us cozy and warm through the wee hours of the night. - The view of the stars at night from this yurt is remarkable - you are aways out from any light pollution, allowing you to see stars you had no idea were there! - You'll have to pack in your own food. We brought chili that was prepped and cooked before hand for dinner, and SO MUCH BACON, veggies, and other fixin's to make a scramble for breakfast. I also suggest bringing tea, coffee, hot coco, or some other sort of warm drink to keep you feeling cozy! - While you can melt snow down and proceed to boil it for 15 minutes, then let it cool, then drink it - I would suggest packing in some water bottles, just to make your life a little easier. - Snowshoeing to the yurt is a blast, but be sure to take some time to snowshoe around the yurt once you've arrived! - Be sure to book in advance!!!! My friend who booked this yurt did so in September. From what I gathered, the yurt is completely booked for the 2018/19 winter season (on the weekends and optimal times, at least). If this is something you want to do, plan ahead, find out when booking opens up for these, and hop to it as soon as you can! - Cost was $115 a night - split between 6 people, that's a little less than $20 a person. That is a steal for the views and experience you get here!

We opted to release the reservation and go back towards Stanley for a better camping experience. If you're an RV camper of a certain demographic- this might be a great place- but it was not for us. The website needs to be more clear on their "tent" sites and what is available before next summer. Staff is nice, and the RV section looked well Maintained, but the tent sites again- problematic.

I had the pools to myself for an hour before others came. Both have a rock bottoms and steps to get in and out of. One is small and hotter, the day I was there it was 105 and the larger one was 95. Changing room at both. Toilets at the larger one. With the $7 you can to two other areas nearby (Land of the Yankee Fork & Bayhorse). The staff was friendly. The is also camping and RV spots. I believe if you do either of those you can use the pools as well. I would come back if in the area. Great find.
