I'm shocked to some degree that they haven't already been written up. I just returned from a once in a life time experience. From the time I was picked up by Casey from WRO, until the time I was dropped back off several days later, I experienced exceptional performance and professionalism from everyone. Casey, Tom and Sarah are consummate professionals. I can't wait until the next time up to Yellow Pine and beyond. I've been on a few pack trips in the past and I've never seen anyone take as good a care of their animals as the staff at WRO. As hunting guides, Casey and Tom did a great job. Not only do they know their stuff, but they also know the history behind the animals in their GMU. I learned a lot more than just what it takes to hunt Elk. Lastly, as a long time outdoorsman, I've camped out 1,000s of nights. Not once have I had food as good at Sarah makes in the hunt camps. The food on the trip was almost worth the price. (But I wanted to hunt too, not just eat.) GREAT JOB. THANKS!!!

We booked an eight day non guided Elk/Deer/predator hunt for early October 2025 in January 2025…read more We were told the camp location would be provided around one month before the hunt start date. We received the exact location two weeks prior. For those of us that like to scout and prepare for our hunts this left little time. When we arrived at the camp, the items stipulated by contract to be provided by WIO were not at the camp. While this was not a game changer it was a bad start for sure. Our drop camp was Pierson (11T 690895 m, 4937337 m) The condition of the tent and Sheppard's stove was a definite 1 out of 10. Thank goodness WIO put a new plastic tarp over the canvas tent. That saved us. During our stay we had to completely rebuild the stove flue and do tent repairs with bailing wire just to keep warm / dry. If it was not for my partner who brought some aluminum foil the flue would not have worked. As far as the hunting, lots of 2 month old elk signs but no elk in our valley or the valleys to our sides. That's just the way it goes. When we returned and made a call, the owner George agreed of our assessment with the camp but did not make any effort to secure our rebooking of his services. My advice, if you get put in the Pierson camp location refuse the location and ask for a refund. As far as the the contracted items not being supplied by WIO, be prepared with everything you need as if you were packing in on your own.

Niether myself or my son really expected to fill our deer tag. Our guide, Anthony, was the best. He was professional and knew how to hunt mule deer in that very rough terrain. At 4:30 am he brought coffee to me in my tent and made sure the wood stove was heating. Both of us filled our deer tags. If you are looking for a great trip in the most rugged mountain terrain you can imagine, then this is the trip.

Enjoyed Adam and Sahra Beaupre's super friendly and accommodating style so much, I found out Adam also does Horse Creek Outfitters and I couldn't resist a bear hunt on my honeymoon! Wife felt extremely comfortable, safe and taken care of enough to stay back at the inn, laying on the hammock next to the stream while I went on a hunt with Adam's team. Came home with an awesome cinnamon-black bear and a very happy wife! SO IMPRESSED, I AM MAKING THIS TRIP AN ANNUAL TRIP! Even this year with a new baby on the way---I just can't stay away from Challis and all the Beaupres offer!

After returning from my trip this year, I sent an email to Steve Zettel, owner of the company, wanting to discuss what I considered unsafe operations which occurred during my week long trip. His reply to my email stated I did not "conform to the Idaho Wilderness Company way" and I was not welcome to float the river with their company again. I sent another email asking exactly what I had done or not done. After 60 days, I have not received a reply. I personally was responsible for 7 others people coming on this trip. Two years ago I brought 12 members of my family on the trip. I express concern one time and I am told I am not welcome. You couldn't pay me to float the river with Idaho Wilderness Company.

I travelled with IWC last summer on the Middle Fork of the Salmon and while the trip was a nice…read moreexperience there was one issue. For the price of this trip you would expect well qualified guides with years of experience. This river is after all a challenging white run and for the most park they did with the exception of one guide . This guide had only been on two floats ( in his carrier ) and as you would expect his craft had numerous collisions with walls and rocks creating several unwanted whitewater swims. When the trip was finished our group leader sent an email to discuss what was an obvious safety issue. The response from management was that we no longer welcome with IWC and that there were several fine operators that we should consider for future trips. When considering a Middle Fork of the Salmon trip perhaps you should take their advice

If I could choose a -5 review, I would. From the moment we arrived, things just were not right…read more Horses were FILTHY and hadn't been groomed in whoo knows how long. They were covered in mud and debris; just like all animals, this makes them very uncomfortable. Throw a saddle on that, and they can be downright angry. FYI, I owned horses as a kid. As soon as we started on the trail, my horse took off at a fast gallop and would not stop. After he caught up to the other horses, he slowed down. The next time he got a bit behind, he did it again, only this time when I tried to slow him, he threw me off of his back down a hill about 15 feet off the trail. The pain was instant and excruciating and the trail hand did nothing. My daughter came to my aid and at than time the employee informed us that an ambulance would not come up to get me as they couldn't make it up the trail and I couldn't walk back down. My daughter and a stranger, helped half carry me up the hill. Long story short, the ranch denied any responsibility, gaslit me by claiming that the horse didn't throw me (I guess I grew wings and flew down the ravine, and didn't even have a first aid kit for ice. I went to St L's trauma ER for tests. Diagnosis: broken back. My healing is slow and I don't l know if I'll ever be back 100%. They offered me zero compensation for my pain and medical bills--their concern seemed to be avoiding a lawsuit. I write this not for revenge but out of concern for the next person who gets thrown. The ranch hand did tell me that 5 others had been thrown off. I was lucky that I'm not paralyzed or dead. Be very careful when choosing a place to ride horses. And make sure they have emergency protocols in place beforehand. They don't even offer helmets! I'm two months out and still suffering. Buyer beware!

Jerrod, Jenni and Kathi were great from the beginning communicating everything needed for my hunt. They even worked with me when my friend backed out due to a health issue. Everyone was helpful and friendly when I showed up. My guide, Moses, was the best. A true professional, hardworking, knowledgeable, tireless, relentless but still friendly. Moses worked his butt off to get me in range a great deer and did most of the work caping and quartering afterwards. Moses took me farther and higher every day looking to put me on a good buck when the weather didn't cooperate. He tailored my hunt to my abilities and desire. Like hunting with a good friend, maybe better. Worth every dollar, especially when you consider out of state license/tag (without points or draw), lodging, food, horses and a top quality guide who knows the area. Not a hunt for your first hunt, the faint of heart or for someone in poor health. Then we realized that we had hiked up to Bench Lakes and saw the trails they rode on with lots of foot traffic and said to ourselves, we dont to deal with that. So we checked out Wild West. WE HAD A BLAST. Didn't see a single person other than our guide Shelby. She is so sweet and kind. Treats her customers and animals like family. She and her husband and wonderful and you can rest assured you will enjoy your time there. It is beautiful beyond words too. Have fun.

The drive to the ranch was pretty cool - tucked away from HWY 75 - immaculate grounds/stables/corrals with the Salmon River directly behind. Matthew gave us a a refresher and was attentive and throughout the 1.5 hour ride up to the ridge where we had a nice lunch. The ride back provided expansive views. Plenty of photo ops up, on the ridge and back. Plus, Matthew somehow managed to take 50+ photos that he later texted to us. Shelby and Matthew manage a professional and well run outfit.
