Rowan - guide extraordinaire! Thank you for a great and memorable experience!

Amazing trip today with Rowan! The whitewater rafting was amazing and the guides were the best! Shout out to Rowan - our fabulously knowledgeable and entertaining guide and to Elle who helped out when we hit a rough spot! You guys are awesome! Highly recommend!

Awesome, laid back company. We actually showed up 20 minutes late due to construction and they weren't harried at all. We did a great 3 hour trip at 2pm and stopped at the snack camp with free lemonade, home made treats, and a warm spring to soak your feet in! Only 2 class 3 Rapids and the rest was floating along flat water with beautiful views. Well worth the ~$75 price tag! Would definitely go again! Thanks Amanda and Cedar for the awesome trip.

Our awesome guide Nate was a pro!

What a killer afternoon we had on the river! The owners and team were super friendly from the minute we arrived in the parking lot. Nice to be able to choose what kind of boat to ride - paddle, row, or even get your own ducky. Our guide, Nate, was awesome - so professional, fun, and nice to the whole group. We felt safe the entire time as he kept cool and in charge (not just because of the cold water splashing up!). The best thing about White Otter is that they are the only river guide that is on the put-in for the day stretch of the river. So we walked right to the river after suiting up, which was really great - no long, hot bus ride from Stanley! The bus ride back was a quick 15 mins. I'd definitely recommend to anyone - families and adventurers of all kinds!

Our family had only floated the Boise River downtown. We heard the Salmon River was the next step. There are 4 places to rent from in Stanley. If you rent from White Otter you save a bus ride from Stanley to the starting point. And you save a ride from the exit spot back to Stanley. White Otter is located at the starting point. So you basically get in the raft at their business. 2nd the White Otter starting point is further up river then the rest so you get a little more rafting. We like to commend our guide Malinda for doing an excellent job at putting everyone at ease. Our son was 8 and he cannot wait to go back. Not sure about others but White Otter has a Professional photographer taking pictures. And they sell all the photos in one CD you can but, cheap. Great day. Thanks White Otter. We will see you next year.

Staff were very conscientious about safety. The lunch was more adventurous than I was expecting--grilled chicken, tzatziki, couscous, and a vegetable salad, with PBJ sandwiches as an option, and ridiculously good, freshly baked chocolate chip or blueberry & lemon cookies. Our guide Joey was knowledgeable and entertaining. During the day we saw lots of wildlife: tons of trout jumping at caddis flies, a mink, deer, merganser ducks, and multiple bald eagles, golden eagles, and ospreys. The river itself is beautiful. A few tips: You can bring additional food or beverages and leave them on the bus, which meets the party at the lunch spot. Several groups rafting with us brought small coolers with their own drinks and snacks. Probably a great idea if you have any food restrictions. It's recommended that you leave any valuables or electronics (or other water-sensitive items) in your car or in a lockbox with the staff. The guides have some limited room in a dry bag for phones or cameras, but it's not the most convenient to be taking a phone out of the drybag and putting it back in. You will not have cell service most of the day anyway, which was actually rather relaxing. Even the town of Stanley doesn't have great cell service in areas, so you may want to set up an "away" or "do not disturb" notice for the day. Sunblock and a hat are helpful; you'll be in the open sun on the water for most of the day. Highly recommend this company for rafting in Stanley.

Everyone had amazing energy, they gave us wetsuits because it turned out it was going to be cold (the weather changed on us). The trip felt safe, well-planned, fun, and great for young kids. If you are looking for high adrenaline, I would say ditch the kids and do the higher class adults ones. Our boys had never been rafting before and really enjoyed themselves. All in all, we would absolutely return for another guided river trip with The River Company.

Seriously, "As good as it gets!". You're likely reading…read morethis in preparation for a Middle Fork of the Salmon River adventure. You may also be reading about Rocky Mountain River Tours for the Main Salmon trip, I cannot speak to that, but I know you'll be in good hands there too! Not a river-rat? No problem! But, there is something in you that is drawn to the Middle Fork, as are thousands each year. I am here to tell you that the best crew to do it with is Rocky Mountain River Tours. I would highly recommend RMRT, they're organized, efficient, friendly and experts on the river and off the river with delicious food and comfy camps. I have done other over-night and day rafting trips in Idaho, and I will say that there is something truly magical about the Middle Fork. And, more importantly, there are many magical, fantastic things about Rocky Mountain River Tours. I don't want to give away too much about the Middle Fork itself, but I will tell you all about Rocky Mountain River Tours. First, your trip will begin in the ugly Stanley, Idaho (it's beautiful, but ssshhh, we want it to stay a secret). You will meet Jared, the owner of RMRT, he is one hell of a river-expert and is super organized. He will provide with all of the needed gear, dry bags, wetsuits, tent, etc. He is great at answering all of your questions because trust me, you will have a lot. Jared is also the best because the morning you leave for your trip, he'll let you load the bus 10 minutes before the Stanley Baking Company opens so you have plenty of time to get in line. Trust me, this is a must. Get fuel for your first day on the river! Okay, so you got your belly full of Stanley's finest, you're on the school bus and ready to go to the best classroom in the world, the Middle Fork! Jared will provide you with some of your first lessons of the trip, interpretive tidbits on the way. Forest fire information, plant identification, where to look for elk and wolves, the works. After a long bus ride through the beautiful, I mean ugly and horrible, backwoods of Idaho, you're at the famous, Boundary Creek, the put-in for the Middle Fork of the Salmon. YES! This is a busy place considering you're in the middle of nowhere. Boats, dogs, kayaks, people everywhere. Now, this is important, use the bathroom here! Then make your way to the lead guide for RMRT. Fritz was ours, and he was the best. The guide will give you all the necessary safety information and make sure you have what you need. Then, to the boats! I could on and on about the details, but for the sake of brevity, I will leave you with some important points. 1. Ride with different guides throughout the trip and day. Each guide has a specific set of skills and they all have different backgrounds that brought them to the river. Don't worry, they are all expert whitewater guides and will keep you safe. 2. Get on the paddle boat! It's a fun way to get immersed in the river, but not for a swim...maybe. 3. Hike above camp! 4. RMRT has the BEST food of any trip I've ever been on. Hot carrot cake on the Middle Fork? Yes. And it is best carrot cake you'll ever have, I promise! 5. Ask questions! The guides are all super nice, patient and want to share their information with you. With that said, dig into the library and learn more about where you are! 6. TIP THE GUIDES! These guys and gals work so hard and often live on their tips, so make sure to have some cash or a check with you at the end. 7. Have fun. Take hikes. Write. Take pictures and live it up! RMRT is your group, no need to look any farther. Enjoy the Middle Fork!

Great food and great guides. One of the owners (Grant) came along for the first two days of the trip before flying out. Grant often answered the phone and answered all my questions. This is the only river they do and being family owned, is what helped sell me on rafting with them. They even accomdated my camper that I needed to plug in for the week I was gone so the batteries would stay charged. They also offer a discount on return customers. One old timer on our trip came back just about every year. .

The crew was so friendly, knowledgeable, skilled, and went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy. We had beautiful trombone music in the evening and again in the morning, signaling breakfast. The food? Well, suffice it to say, I actually gained 2 lbs! Gourmet food...delicious! Everything was so well organized and easy. The people we traveled with have become lifelong friends now. The Middle Fork? Gorgeous, breathtaking...and the guides knew stories and geological information that was really interesting and educational as well. Tim & I highly recommend this trip. You'll love it!!!

It is difficult to make decisions on which vendors to hire when you're just doing online research, but Mystic definitely did not disappoint! I called 3 weeks in advance to book the trip. I wanted a full day trip, but after discussing the options with Mystic, they advised that we go with a 2-hour morning trip due to the late afternoon heat, and the fact that young riders may not enjoy anything more than 2 hours. I booked 8 riders, but ended up having to cancel 2. Since cell-service is spotty up there, I left a voice message 2 days before to cancel the 2 seats and they didn't give me any grief. The transaction was smooth and easy. Upon arrival, getting checked in and settling the bill was quick and easy. We were on the trail in no time at all. Kailey was our guide and she was really great, narrating the amazing scenery along the way. If for no other reason than to see amazing scenery, this is the ride for you. We had an incident that was 100% user error. One of my scouts leaned forward (even after being advised on the proper technique) whilst heading downhill and ended up slipping off his saddle when the horse stopped abruptly. He fell, but was not hurt. Kailey immediately tended to him, made sure he was safe and fine, and even readjusted his saddle afterwards, just in case. She handled the situation very well, and even filed an incident report even though we had completely owned the error. The next day, after we were back in cell service area, we received a message from her checking in on the scout to make sure he was still fine. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! At the end of our week-long trip to Boise, many of the scouts named the horseback riding adventure as their favorite activity for the week!
