We had a great experience with the "lunch trip" rafting package. The guides and other staff were very friendly and everything went smoothly throughout the day. Staff were very conscientious about safety. The lunch was more adventurous than I was expecting--grilled chicken, tzatziki, couscous, and a vegetable salad, with PBJ sandwiches as an option, and ridiculously good, freshly baked chocolate chip or blueberry & lemon cookies. Our guide Joey was knowledgeable and entertaining. During the day we saw lots of wildlife: tons of trout jumping at caddis flies, a mink, deer, merganser ducks, and multiple bald eagles, golden eagles, and ospreys. The river itself is beautiful. A few tips: You can bring additional food or beverages and leave them on the bus, which meets the party at the lunch spot. Several groups rafting with us brought small coolers with their own drinks and snacks. Probably a great idea if you have any food restrictions. It's recommended that you leave any valuables or electronics (or other water-sensitive items) in your car or in a lockbox with the staff. The guides have some limited room in a dry bag for phones or cameras, but it's not the most convenient to be taking a phone out of the drybag and putting it back in. You will not have cell service most of the day anyway, which was actually rather relaxing. Even the town of Stanley doesn't have great cell service in areas, so you may want to set up an "away" or "do not disturb" notice for the day. Sunblock and a hat are helpful; you'll be in the open sun on the water for most of the day. Highly recommend this company for rafting in Stanley. read more

Iz had a great sense of humor infused with knowledge of both biological and cultural facts about the river (or perhaps I should say her delivery of fun facts was infused with a great sense of humor). I got just the right amount of splashed and enjoyed jumping off of accurately named "Jump Rock" to cool off. Had a fantastic time with Lily who was our river guide. My husband and I took our 7 year old twin boys on the Class II & Class III trip. Everyone had amazing energy, they gave us wetsuits because it turned out it was going to be cold (the weather changed on us). The trip felt safe, well-planned, fun, and great for young kids. If you are looking for high adrenaline, I would say ditch the kids and do the higher class adults ones. Our boys had never been rafting before and really enjoyed themselves. Wild adventure with top notch guides!! My husband and I brought our 8 year old daughter to Stanley for a nature-fueled adventure. The River Company did not disappoint! The entire experience was top tier. From the moment we parked our car we were greeted with energy and excitement. Our guide Annie was friendly and patiently answered all our questions. But the entire staff was terrific and it felt like we were a group of friends enjoying a day on the river. We experienced rapids, calm spots, history and nature lessons, and there was even a spot you could jump off a rock into the river - which several guests and most of the staff took advantage of. We booked the family lunch trip where riverside lunch was provided. Daria (I think that's the chef's name?) made the best chicken tacos with all the fixins. There was coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and fresh lemonade, and even some dessert! Just what we needed before embarking on the second leg of our trip. They took some high quality photos of us on the river which were available for purchase afterward. They truly think of everything! So happy we booked with The River Company!! read more

Rafting is always one of the highlights of our summer trips to Sun Valley and this year all 3 of our kiddos (10, 8 and 5 years old) were old enough to go. Our family of 5 + grandparents + our amazing guide Will had a raft to ourselves when we've had to share in the past. However, I think due to covid they may not be sharing rafts these days anyway. When you first arrive you get fitted for a life jacket and then take a 20 min bus ride to the river. The hardest part of the day (IMO) is walking thru the rocks to get on the raft. My 5 year old got a little nervous mid walk and tried to scramble back up to the bus, but Will picked him up and threw him on the raft. The kids enjoyed the ride while the adults paddled. It's definitely a little bit of an arm workout, especially in the rougher waters. The roughest part of our trip was when our raft first took off and we immediately got stuck on a rock, but Will came to our rescue. After that we had a few bumps, which delighted the kids, but it was pretty smooth rafting. We stopped 3/4 of the way for a snack (water and granola bar) and those who dared could jump off a rock into the freezing cold water. No thank you. In past years we also had a delicious lunch near the end of the trip, but they weren't offering that on the day we rafted. It definitely makes for a full day adventure so highly recommend lunch if they are offering it. You end up a little further from where you started so it was a 30 min ride back on the bus to our car. We were all a bit wet (although no one actually fell in this time), hungry and tired....but had a fabulous time! We'll be back for more rafting fun and while they are a few rafting options in the area The River Company does an excellent and safe job. read more

My family and I had such a fun time on our rafting trip! We did the longer rafting tour option which included lunch and omg the mediterranean food we had was unexpected and much better than any rafting food I've had before so cheers to their chef. The water level was pretty low so it wasn't a very intense rafting experience but it was still a lot of fun especially jump rock. This was such a fun company to work with. Our guide, Luke, was so fun. We started right on time and felt safe with our family of five the entire run. We had our three kids with us (13, 10 and 6) and they all had a blast. We took a 25 minute right to the launching point and after the safety speech, we took off down the river. It was so pretty and the perfect ride for families. It took us about 90 minutes from point A to point B on the river. Luke was so informative and fun. Outstanding company. You can tell the employees love their work and the company is well run, it shows. We took a rafting trip with another family, we each had our own raft and guide. Our guide was extremely nice, funny, and knowledgeable about the area. They bused us up to the start point, made jokes along the way, and pointed out places of interest. On the river the same thing. We had several other groups in other rafts which made it seem like a festive way. We saw a bald eagle flying in the canyon, that was awesome! The rapids were cool and just right for smaller kids, the guide did a great job of keeping everyone safe. The cooked us lunch and did a little more rafting. It was well worth the money and the experience was awesome. The whole family loved it. I feel like I should give them 6 stars! I highly recommend them. read more

My family and I recently did a fly fishing float trip on the Salmon River and could not have had a better time! Our guides, Will & Hunter, were an absolute delight. Very knowledgeable and they catered to two experienced fly fishermen in our group and to the two novices very well. Everyone caught beautiful cutthroats and rainbows. There was a nice picnic area where we stopped for lunch before continuing down the river. Being one of the novices, it was nice to both fish and just take in the views of the river and mountains! My partner and I came with his family to whitewater raft. They've done it before but I was a complete first timer. We had such an amazing time! Reservations were super easy to book online, and when we arrived to the office, our guide Allie was there to greet us by name. They run their business very smoothly and made us feel so at ease. We did the straight shot with class 2 and 3 rapids and Allie was the perfect guide. They even gave us homemade cookies when we stopped halfway through to jump off Jump Rock! Acey Norris was our stellar guide- calmly instructing our crew to navigate 'piece of cake' and the 'narrows' rapids w ease. We were even able to surf the gnar! We had a great Class 3 trip with them. They are friendly and knowledgeable. They accommodated my 84 year old mother who was a bit uncertain about the whole idea but had a great time. Planning a rafting trip with The River Company was a great experience from start to finish. First, they truly do answer their phone pretty much at all hours. After scheduling online, I called after 8pm on evening (planning to leave a message) to reschedule to a different day because of a poor weather forecast. The gentleman who answered was kind and accomodating. In regard to the actual trip, there were multiple employees who greeted and welcomed us in the parking lot immediately after we parked. Our guide, Emily, introduced herself to us and immediately made us feel comfortable. Every member of the staff that we interacted with was kind and professional. The provided lunch was delicious and more than we expected. Emily was personable and talkative throughout the entire trip. She made us feel safe and confident as she directed our group when and in what direction to paddle. I wish we lived closer so that we could do another rafting trip with these guys! If you are looking for a rafting experience that the whole family can enjoy this is your company. The River Company offers trips that includes all ages 4 and up. This wasn't our first water rafting trip. In fact we have done many along the American River, New & Gauley but this was our first chance to go rafting with our 6yr and 4 year old children. We were so excited to take a trip that would allow our boys to experience an activity their parent truly enjoyed and were passionate about. There aren't too many companies that give children the opportunity to experience rafting. We were greeted in the morning by lots of friendly faces and smiles. Sam one of the guides went over safety and expectations to make the trip successful and enjoyable on the bus. Sam is funny and outgoing. She set the tone for the rest of the day. The trip is on the Salmon River and starts at the Elk Creek. Make sure you smile at the beginning of the first rapids because your picture will be taken by a photographer. The trip ends at Torrey's. The main rapids are at the beginning of the adventure and ends in calm waters. Again this trip is great for beginners and children. The guides are awesome! Very informative, patient, and knowledgeable (Not only about rafting but also the beautiful surroundings). We were so lucky to have Mallory as our guide. I can not say enough great things about her! She truly has a gift with the children. She educated the children about the previous dam and the rehabilitation of the river for Salmon spawning. She also provided useful and interesting facts about the surrounding area. One of the highlights for the trip was the stop to let rafters jump from a large rock. Sam made sure that everyone made it up the rock safely. My two little ones even jumped. It was very exhilarating and great break to cool off. We stopped later to eat. Out of all of our rafting trips and experiences there is NO food that compares! Everything is fresh ingredients, healthy, and hot. The cook Susan was amazing. The salad and marinated chicken was mouth watering. The picnic area was clean and there was a place to take a much needed potty break. Our boys did not want the trip to end! Once you arrive back to the store your pictures of the trip will be waiting for you. I can't thank The River company enough for the wonderful and amazing memories we made. This is our favorite company to go river rafting with when in the S.V. area. They always provide nice and friendly guides who make sure that you have a good time. Also the lunch that comes with the meal is usually very good. They have a professional photographer taking photographs on every run so that you can be sure to capture the moment. River rafting with "the company" is a great way for vacationers to spend time as a family. Just make sure you have the coffee ready for that 60 mile drive up highway 75 to meet up in Stanley.
