The owner Greg is very knowledgeable of the area and is a great resource for recommending activities. The cabins are clean and well-kept. This is a rustic cabin resort settled along the Salmon River. The views of the Sawtooth Mountian range can be seen from the property. The sound of the river rolling by replaces the need for any "screen time". I would recommend the Redwood Cabins over the other local hotels/motels in the area which do not offer the convenience of your own kitchen and riverside views. read more

The cabins were clean and comfortable. The bed was nice. The kitchen units could've used a few more utensils but overall cooking and clean up was manageable. I would stay there again possibly. The one thing that I didn't like is that the cabins are situated along The beautiful salmon river. The grounds are well-kept but the one thing that I didn't like was the furniture out there next to the river. They are painted a bright stark red. The furniture is a real eyesore. The other thing that I didn't like was they were not very and accommodating to people who smoke there is no smoking area anywhere outside. I had to go out to the road to smoke. If you're a smoker I wouldn't recommend staying there. If you're not a smoker it shouldn't be a problem. read more

We stayed here because we decided to visit Stanley at the last minute and nothing else was available for the next night. Frankly, I didn't read the Yelp reviews and only read the Google reviews prior to booking. We stayed in the double bed+kitchen cabin. The man/owner was very nice when I came to check in. He was nice when I went back again to ask how to lock the door (just never encountered that type of lock before, lol!) The accommodation itself is very basic but the main thing is that everything was clean, the heat was working well, the shower was hot and had good pressure and we were able to enjoy the sunset from a swing located behind the cabins. On August 24-25 my brothers and our families got together at your cabins for the finale of their visit back to Idaho. It was special as I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. So, we are trying to spend as much time together as possible. Additionally, Redfish and Stanley are one of my brothers favorite childhood locations. So, he loves these cabins located on the Salmon River across from a cattle ranch. Aside from evacuating due to my cancer we were very disappointed in the fact that neither ours nor one of my other brother's HVAC was in working order when we arrived, and it appeared that you relied upon your guests to clean the kitchen, as well as the dishes. Cancer treatment requires as much a sterile environment in the kitchen as possible. For example, once I removed lids from pots they contained enough water and debris there was algae in them. The refrigerator had to be cleaned before we could put our food away. This suggests that no one is assigned to check the cleaning abilities of your guests. In the past I have given your kitchen a thorough cleaning. At this point, I can no longer do that. The final straw was the fact that anyone who appeared to be working there were gone by the time the Forest Service advised us to leave. So, we had no way to lock up or lodge our complaints. 1) Our room was not ready at 3 o'clock for check-in. (2) there was poop on the other side of the toilet seat, and hair on the floor of the shower. (3)There's no curtain over the window of the door that if anybody could walk up would see right into the bed. (4) Had to go beg for toilet paper because only a quarter of a roll was left in the room. (5) There's no TV in the room. Which would've been fine if we were given a heads up to that. We literally brought nothing to read and only had our cell phones. I know we're not there for the entertainment or the TV but after a 8 mile hike you just wish you could come back to your place and have something. You can only sit and stare at the river for so long. (6) there is no AC in the room. Which is fine. But there is also no fan, which in my opinion is an excusable. It was in the upper 90s when we stayed. It was miserable till 10 o'clock at night. Honestly it just felt creepy there. Anyone of these issues I could've dealt with. But the combination of all of them is like WOW. It's too bad , this place has a lot of potential. It would probably be cheap and easy to fix all these issues. But I get the feeling the owners are cheapskates, and don't really care to fix it. We will never make the mistake of staying there again. read more

We stayed in one of the cabins 09/09/23 - 09/11/23. The location is right off the highway, but actually quite spectacular. The Salmon river is only about 30 feet away ... so close you wonder what happens when it overflows. The cabins are very old and in need of repair, but were reasonably clean (unless you look under the beds). We got one with a kitchenette, which included a refrigerator, small stove, and a coffee maker. No microwave. It was much smaller than it appeared in the photos, but comfortable for two people. It would not have been for more than two people. Stanley is a short drive away. The location relative to the Sawtooth NRA is good. Demand of course drives price, but a total of $300+/night for that type of accommodation seemed very high. Given their proximity to the beautiful river, we were surprised the cabins didn't have large windows on the river side. Instead, they are built like concrete bunkers, with small, high windows. We could imagine the sturdy cinder block construction had enabled them to survive many a flood. read more

The cabin was cute and cozy and everything was in good working condition. I felt like we were roughing it, though, and that could have been remedied so easily. They expect you to clean your own dishes, which is fine, but there were no dish towels and the dish soap provided was cheap, smelly, and not very effective. Truthfully, at this point in time, I'd bundle up the dishes and run them through the sanitizing cycle on the dishwasher if it was my call. Same deal with the towels and bedding, they were cheap and just adequate. I would also have appreciated some hand soap since hand washing is so imperative right now. The location is very pretty and convenient to lots of things to do. We had a couple of issues with the hot water and the oven, and the manager was able to remedy them very quickly. read more

Location was idyllic. Even with the poor air quality from nearby forest fires, the location right on the salmon river helped mitigate smoke. Other than that, you get what you pay for. Hasn't been updated in a while. Walls are paper thin. No bathtub, just a shower (would have been nice to know). Owner, though very personable, was very absent. It was like pulling teeth to get more towels. One major problem, I booked online and received a price. When checking in, I was told that the online reservation didn't account for my two small children (which I had listed when booking) and therefore, my reservation had to be changed to double occupancy. They ran my card without telling me it was going to cost me an additional $50. Not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to be informed. read more

The owners are friendly and personable they will make sure you are taken care of and happy. I have been staying at Redwood Cabin for a week each year for as long as I can remember. I look forward to getting up there each and every year. Cabins are clean and beds are good. You cant beet being having the Salmon river right behind you. Along with an amazing are to relax and just look over the Sawtooths. Catch your dinner in the river and cook it on the the grills they provide right on the river. Cant beet that. read more

I am, first and foremost a returning customer; rather, I should have said, I "was" a returning customer, as I will certainly no longer be one. My past experiences here have been acceptable, enough so that we obviously returned on 3 occasions. Given our love of the Stanley Basin, with its majestic views and the beautiful Salmon River, one couldn't ask for a much better location; right on the riverfront with great views and close to services and groceries. This condition alone allows for considerable leniency when critiquing the age of the facilities, the furnishings, the fixtures and utensils, and the surroundings, as well as the owner's seemingly inept attempts to keep up with general maintenance of the aging facilities, or to implement improvements. Having read all of the reviews posted to date, it appears that the majority of reviewers, mostly as I do, love the location and find the facilities below par for the rates applied, even while respecting the degree of difficulty presented by the remote location. Above all however, the one seemingly far too common critical theme found in the multiple reviews was regarding the first and foremost duty of any hospitality service provider, that being the providers respectful and service oriented attitude toward the customers, and it came into full view on my 3rd and final visit to this facility. I fully admit booking at the last moment, only 4 or 5 days in advance. While I wanted my usual cabin right on the river, none were available, so I told the owner's "agent" (daughter or assistant at the facility) that I would accept a room just off the river with one king bed if they could provide a fold out single bed for my daughter who would be accompanying my wife and I; she readily assured me that that was very doable, and took my booking information. The booking was followed by a room confirmation email that I readily acknowledged. We arrived at the facility to find no fold out bed in the room, and reminded the "agent" (owner's son) that there was supposed to be one for our daughter. He called his dad, and then told us his dad would be there in 20 minutes or so. The dad (owner) arrived a few minutes later , unmasked and wreaking of alcohol, to tell us that we had "signed off" and paid for only a room with a king bed, and that he knew nothing about a third party or an added bed, accusingly as though I had some incentive to lie to him about my daughter being with my wife and I. After reiterating that they had been fully informed of what we needed, he simply continued to rudely note that he knew nothing about it, and it was not an issue for him as I had "signed off" upon booking the room with only the king bed. After my continued insistence that his "staff" had been fully informed, he provided us with a folding cushion and a sheet and blanket to wrap around it for my 16 year old daughter to sleep on the floor with, offering no consolation whatsoever for his own daughter's failure to properly inform him of my original booking request. Aside from this poorly handled booking accommodation , we arrived after dark to find our rooms exterior light at the front door completely inoperable and hanging by its exposed, presumably live, electrical wire leaving our entry and it's tripping hazards pitch black as we unloaded our luggage from our car...... perhaps those neglected or inept improvements to this sub-par facility, do in fact, deserve stronger criticism. I will never return to this facility, nor will I recommend to anyone, and I will very likely share this rude hospitality experience with employees and associates to clearly illustrate "What NOT" to do as a hospitality or service provider. Any rate savings achieved by booking with this unprofessional operator are likely not worth the disappointing experience of staying here. read more

This place is awful. Beside the scenic setting, I do not have anything good to say. The owner's wife/girlfriend was possibly the most rude individual I have ever met. You are treated like you're an inconvenience and they are doing you a real favor to stay there. Instead of nicely speaking to you, the wife/girlfriend speaks to you like you are a complete idiot and she can't be bothered. It's really unfortunate because it could be a nice place. Cabins are very old and need updating. They weren't filthy, but you will notice a spider and webs in every corner of the bathroom and windows. They only provide two small, worn towels and do not replace them or provide any sort of housekeeping (no emptying of trash either) during your stay. read more

Prices are lower as it is straight out of the 50's. Not a lot of updating. Adequate if you're not staying in the room long. My beef is that when I went from one room to the other (had to move due to availability) my pillow disappeared. It was my favorite and I'm not happy about it. They claim to not have it but I know I left it on the bed. Happened to me once at the Shilo Inn at the OR Coast too and I have never gone back there. Did not expect it here in this quaint little place. Might have rated them higher otherwise. read more

The location is the only bright point of this business. Located on the Salmon river as it flows through vast green pastures, this is a prime location for the outdoor activities that surround it. Close to Redfish lake, this was our reason for staying here; but beyond sleeping, you will not want to spend any time here. The cabins themselves are constructed of cinder blocks painted an ill shade of yellow. The inside of the cabins is not spacious, nor accommodating. The kitchen area is large enough for one person to use it, and the bathroom is far smaller. Beyond any concern I have with the condition of the property and its many piles of (what seems like) trash, my main concern falls on the awful service which we received. My verbiage could probably be summed up to "hostility." I don't want to be treated like you're doing me a favor by allowing me to stay in a place like this. If anything the service should exceed the standards set by the accommodations, to expect an even half decent review. I would much rather camp in this beautiful patch of the Sawtooth National Forest. read more

We stayed there for two nights Sept 5 and 6 2015. It was nice and clean. The owner was really nice. Although he did get upset due to a neighbor complained that my kids were noisy Can't fault him for that because it was true. We did shut up after. It was not updated but so what! It was clean, everything worked, and it was nice to relax next to the river. Kids loved it. It was close to everything. It was really nice not to have TV. I would recommend it. read more

We had to cancel due to a medical emergency to my mom who broke her hip about 6 weeks before we were going to stay in Stanley Idaho. I contacted by email at least 4 times but no response. I called to cancel due to our family emergency. Finally I called by phone and got a cancellation well in advance but since we paid by check ,way back in January and we planned to stay in August, we never received a refund even with our request by email. I asked the manager if he received our request by email to cancel, he didn't check. So we're out $200.00 and I felt that if he was able to re rent it we should have received a refund because the request was made to cancel in June and we had reservations in August. My mother is elderly and I was sure that she wouldn't recover in time for our vacation. This was the only vacation rental that kept our money. Everyone else that I gave notice to with the same 6 week cancellation returned our deposit 100% on our other stays, that we had reserved for that vacation we never could go on. I don't think we can ever plan on a vacation stay at a small business that far in advance and not get a refund due to a family emergency!!! Just a warning to everyone that no refund is allowed even with that kind of notice we gave to the owner. read more
