Have a business connection happy hour a few days ago. A little dark to my Chase for lighting, but overall a good experience. Respectful staff, excellent beverage choices, good food. If you were looking for a place to have a business luncheon or happy hour connection, I recommend this place. Food in the dining room was good, but the service was quite slow. The waiter stopped by to say Hello, and then we didn't see him for ten minutes. After ordering drinks he disappeared for another ten minutes. We ordered dinner--no salads, no appetizers, just dinner--and it took over a hlf hour. This was around 6:30 PM on a Wednesday evening, so I'm surprised things were so backed up. The bar is a different story, and I'd give it 4.5 stars. I first came here for a light lunch and sat the bar area. Their bartender at the time was amazing! He had ticket after ticket coming at him but he dealt with them deftly. Awesome to watch. There is a tall blonde woman who serves in the dining room area near the back, the times I've gone with friends we have had her and she is very good. Been twice in the last 5 weeks with my wife and they were out of the tomahawk pork chop both times (04/15 & 05/18). That's what my wife wanted and they were out. When I spoke to the manager last night she didn't seem to care one bit. I have eaten dinner at Stanford's 5 times in the last 5 weeks and the food is excellent, but after my experience last night I might not ever go back due to principle. On our first visit, I had the Patty Melt. It was not prepared as described on the menu. The meat WAS delicious, eaten with a knife and fork. Bread was very tasty, but fat/buttery from grilling. There was NO provolone cheese, so why is it called a melt? There was only a tiny dab of special burger sauce that had dribbled out of one corner of the bread. And one slice of bread had a very thin schmear of special Bacon Jam, I ate only a few bites of bread (dieting) and the jam was so delicious. Great happy hour served in the bar only. I had a few drinks and dinner here last night with friends and was pleasantly surprised. Our server was super nice and even gave us a last call for happy hour warning. I always appreciate the opportunity to get one more drink order in. I had Chardonnay at $5.50 a glass and the southwest chopped salad, also $5something. The salad was delicious and the perfect size. My friend both had chicken strips and delicious looking mojitos. I took a glance at the full menu and it's pretty pricy, happy hour is definitely the way to go if you can get there early and snag a table! read more

First things first, this place looks great. Coming in this place looks fancy, they have their own bar and outdoor seating. The service was very polite and friendly, my server in particular had a few laughs with me and my friends. But where it starts to go down is the menu. All the items here are extremely over priced. I wouldn't mind paying a price for a great meal, but 20 dollars for a prime rib dip, that was slightly above room temperature, and frankly the taste wasn't that great either. I also ordered creme brulee as a dessert and it was sub par. It was chunky and slightly burnt on top. If this was cheaper I'd give it a higher rating, but at the price range this high, and with the food quality this low, I have to give it two stars. read more

I have to preface my review by saying that we tend to only dine in the bar during happy hour. They have amazing specials! They have a great variety on their happy hour menu and the prices are amazing. They have drink specials as well, and the value there varies, based on what you order. The bar has booths as well as tables (a huge plus for me) and the service is generally pretty quick. Came for the happy hour special one night with a large group and they moved tables to accommodate us and kept the food and drinks coming. I have eaten in the dining room a few times, and I have to second what a few people have said that it can be a bit pricey for the quality without any specials. Years ago this classy restaurant was just that a classy restaurant. Today it is just the only restaurant on Northgate property not connected to the Mall. Today's Happy Hour target has slipped to dried chicken in both it's chicken ceasar salad and it's chicken strips( you may get 3( the usual)-you're lucky- you don't suffer as long chewing them). But you can't tell the whole menu from just the 2 items...after having those you want to try more for more money...not really. 3 stars is a perfect review for this place. It is a great mix between eh and good. We were greeted right away and were sat in no time. The patio looked really nice (at least when it's a WARM summer day). I had read reviews about here before I came about some stupid rules they have. Luckily I didn't come during happy hour, didn't need more than 3 drinks, and didn't need a box! There were many Tv's and the the decor reminded me of a budget fancy restaurant. We ordered beers and burgers. The server was pleasant and everything was refilled and picked up in a timely manner. Only complaint is salad that came with the burger was a little weird and although the server was perfectly nice, the service didn't break through any level. It was just doing the tasks your supposed to do when you have to do. A little more genuineness and connection would have been nice. Stopped by after the last day for our son's preschool but it was a mistake... The hostesses were very nice but our server wasn't... We ordered from kids menu for our son and never got the things he was supposed to get with his meal like breads, fruits or desserts... I like Standfords once in a great while but not to much on days when I don't feel like cooking because a little to expensive for me. I consider this Restaurant as a Valentine'sday,Birthday,Aniversery and all other special occassions. I went there for my Aunt's Birthday who turned 61 years old and all my family members there too. We were seated beneath a flickering light. We asked to move and we're given a better table. We ordered 3 entrees. Crab and artichoke sandwich, smoked chicken fettuccine, and halibut fish and chips. All three were excellent and we're brought to us in a timely manner. Our server was attentive and efficient. When we left, an earring was left behind. We called and the staff located it for us. Fantastic service from Michael - explained the menu with genuine interest, engaged our kids directly with humor and adjusted order when asked. Food was excellent... and portions generous... grilled salmon, Mac & cheese, ribs, plus a beet salad as a shared starter - that was really the star of the meal. Didn't have room for dessert but ordered anyway. Had the apple crisp - a bit more sweet and less tart than I prefer but comes with vanilla ice cream. I was curious to try this place as I frequent the Northgate area but never dined here or know anything about this place, other than that they serve American food. Walking in, the décor was nice, clean and stylish. The friendly staff greeted us (party of 5) and took us to our table quickly. Our server was nice and he was proactive to our needs (filling our drinks and checking on us frequently). We ordered mostly from their signature section of the menu (not their daily specials) including their mac n cheese, which was highly recommended by our server. Overall, the food was very disappointing. The portion was overall generous, but it seemed like the someone mislabeled all their seasonings in the kitchen. The each bite into my burger, I tasted either too much spice, too much salt, or no seasoning at all. The fries were soggy and over saturated with oil. The mac and cheese was blend at best, again tasted too much salt in one bite, and nothing on another. Their halibut fish taco was alright, tasted crisp and fresh.., however, it seemed like someone forgot to season it. Generally, (including our appetizers) we thought everything tasted a bit Cajun spicy.., but without the Cajun flavor. Went to Ram initially but it was packed and we didn't want to wait around so we left and headed to Stanford's. We went from one venue overly full at 7 pm to another that was within walking distance that was half full so I'm immediately thinking this is a red flag. My buddy tries to order us a round of cocktails but is unable to because of how lacking they are in supplies. Nothing too exotic, he was asking for drinks that included raspberry tea or ginger beer. As the waitress repeatedly turned down our requests, I'm looking around at the liquor bottles they have showcased and am realizing most of them you could find at a casual college house party... Eventually we settle on a simple rum and coke. I ordered a Chicken Caesar, worst quality salad I have ever gotten in a restaurant and truly inferior to some bag salads I have bought at the grocery store. Lettuce were chopped in dull, highly unappetizing rectangular shapes; lacking in flavor and very plain chicken breast. The bread was decent but the full flavor seemed more just a excess use of cheap cheese and butter. Cost +$16. Good times with great friends that I haven't seen in a while saved this place from being 1 star. read more

All you do here is wait. We waited over an hour for our food and never received our order. There were also multiple groups of people who were walking out because they had not received their food either. One of the couples we talked to, as we were leaving, were sitting in the dining area and said it wasn't even busy over there. The kitchen staff is just really slow. On the plus side the bartender was very attentive and was super apologetic. The first time I ever went to Stanford's I was with an uncle from out of town. He is a very high end guy who loves to treat his family to the good life. There was a group of caucasian Americans dinning in the restaurant at the same time as us. The service was poor for us and I decided maybe I'll give them another try. The next time I went to Stanford's (the 2nd time) I was on a date. I told the hostess that I am not a pork eater, she nodded at me as if she understood. I ordered the soup of the day, and a ribeye steak. The hostess told me that I would be receiving the mashed potatoes and the squash zucchini mixture. I was delighted. When the hostess brought my food back I got some beets and carrots, and the potatoes au gratin. I told her I didn't want those veggies since she had explained what I should of gotten. I started to eat my food and didn't realize the potatoes au gratin had bacon inside of it. The moral of the story is that I didn't want pork and they gave me it anyway! i've been to stanford's many times. happy hour for food is pretty good, lots of selection and at a decent price. the butternut squash linguine is my new fave from the bar menu. my only gripe has been the service. yesterday's service fueled me to write this review. my server (danielle) started pleasant, occasionally checking up on us. towards the end of the meal, more people started coming in, and we didn't see her for 15 minutes or so. when she came back i asked for a box and she kind of threw it at me. i brushed it off because maybe she was in a hurry. about another 15 minutes later she dropped down the bill, took another 10 minutes or more to pick it up, and then dropped it back again silently. didn't say thank you for coming in. didn't say have a nice night. she said nothing. i'll still come to stanford's regardless. i've had worse service. i just thought that was extremely rude since we were a quiet table all night and didn't give her any trouble. maybe she was overwhelmed by all the customers that came in, i don't know. in any case, it's her job to be nice. and smile once in a while. read more

We always enjoy our visits to Stanford's. This particular visit we had one of the best servers. His name is Michael and he is a very personal and friendly/funny! Me and my husband stopped at Stanfords last night after being at the Northgate mall. we had a very nice experience there before (about 2 years ago). This time... it was very bad. I had one of their specials that came with basmati rice. the rice was brown. basmati should be a white rice. the vegetables were dried up. My husband ordered sirloin tips and they were also over cooked. I think they precook side dishes hours before serving. we placed our order and my husband got his salad.... then we waited about 30 minutes for our dinner to arrive. I normally don't like these chain restaurants, but I LOVE Stanford's Happy Hour. Prices are good and it's not crazy over crowded. The Tatar Tots are like little balls of garlic mashed potatoes deep fried and served with a garlic aioli. YUMMY! They were better when they were smaller but still good. The house salad is way better than most...complete with bacon and hard boiled egg. LOVE the Roasted Brie with Garlic, toast and honey! The chicken strips and the burger are both AWESOME deals on the happy hour menu. AND they have both of my favorite beers on tap! Manny's and ESB. We never eat in the restaurant so I'm not recommending or discouraging that. read more

I have been to Stanford's a number of times over the years and it used to be great, great service and food. The food is still amazing, however the service has gone completely down hill. I meet my friend for dinner and I was late so my friend said just give the host my name and he will show you where I am. I give the host my friends name and he tells me to hold on while talking to a coworker. The hostess then goes to his computer and looks at me like "what do you want?" I asked again for my friend and he rolled his eyes and said "oh yea, over here." After sitting for about 10 minutes our server asked "what do you want to drink? ", not do I want anything. The drinks too a good 10 minutes as well. We finally ordered and that too took forever, luckily my entree salad and my friends steak was delicious and filling. We then got our check and when we asked for him to split it, he said "we don't do that" (which I know they do because we do it all the time). He finally brought our check after agian, more and more waiting. I was also shocked that my one martini was 11.25. When we left we were also shocked that when we walked by our server and others, no one thanked us or invited us back. I love the food but the service and the pricing is quickly turning me off, which is to bad because I am a RUI restaurant member and used to love coming here. read more

After work I stopped by Northgate with a buddy on a Sunday afternoon- five pm. The initial plan was to go to the Ram and get happy hour drinks for an hour and then get dinner. That plan was a no-go since The Ram doesn't have a happy hour on Sunday from 3-6 like the weekdays. We were going to pack up and go over to Red Robin for drinks and fries instead, but then we both looked up and over to our right...BOOM! There was the building, there was my phone in my hand. I quickly text messaged google and got the number to Stanford's before we even got back to my car. "Hi, you reached Stanford's! How may I help you?" I winced at the high pitched bubbly voice and stoically asked about the happy hour. "3 to 6" She replied promptly as we walked the few paces from my parked car to the door. Once inside, I noticed a screen with a ball game on, and there were a few couples in their early 20's hiding within the booths. It was extremely dark and weird, like a psuedo-classy joint for people with no discernment of style. I am pretty sure I remember at least one hanging Tiffany lamp. We immediately went and sat down at the bar. A ripped dark haired college bro with sleeve tats asked us if we knew what we wanted. We told him not yet and picked up the happy hour menu. Only appetizers. And not very appetizing looking ones at that. Where were the drinks? Where were the 2 dollar wells, or 2.75 micros, or even a dollar off top shelf? Nothing, there was not any type of sign of a discount or deal. I asked the brotender, I mean, bartender, about the happy hour, and was informed it was on apps only. The house mixed drinks sounded like some sugared sippings that a prom queen would find delightful at a pool party in southern California, and the martinis were not looking much better. So much for class. I figured I could get a cheaper grey goose and oj over at Red Robins, and we got up and did just that. I ended up getting a BLTA and fries plus booze and still kept our bill for two under 30 bucks. read more

We drive by this place all the time and decided to drop in for dinner. There was a 20 minute wait for dining room, even though tables were empty. Found a table in the lounge area immediately and was promptly greeted by our waiter. I prefer the swordfish scampi and my wife the chicken Marsala. Both dishes were good and the portions adequate. The atmosphere was not too loud and we were able to connect and converse. Total bill was around $50 for the two meals, this is with no Desert or appetizers. The interesting note was a "surcharge" added to the final bill that described it as a way of not having to raise prices on food due to the new $15/hr minimum wage. Seems a little deceptive to stick the patron with this burden at the end of the meal.
