We finally made it back to have dinner. Boy are we glad we did. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to spicy food so I thought the Nashville hot chicken (the mild version) was pretty hot. I missed the event to try the new brunch menu but we made it down the following weekend because the menu looked delicious! I love the space here and they have a decent happy hour. The new brunch menu... several yummy options to try, but we all were set on the hot chicken. And we were all stuffed and happy! The chicken was fried with a perfect amount of heat (not as hot as Hot Chicken Takeover hot, FYI) for both the hot and mild. The biscuit it was served on was AMAZING! The portion size was pretty big, and you could add on eggs and gravy to make a skillet out of it. I like Standard Hall's location and venue - I'm overall happy to see this part of Short North get a cute bar! Draft beers are reasonable at $5, cocktails/mixed drinks I think were around $8. Food menu was pretty limited... a burger, tacos, pizza, wings - I saw a few people with the nashville hot wings but they looked pretty messy and I didn't see anyone finish all their wings. I ordered the Cincinnati Poutine (basically Cincinnati style chili + cheese + onions + mustard + tots) which was not poutine in my book but I'm a Cincinnati chili lover and I did like theirs. Good for sharing. The ambiance does remind me of Pint House - a large bar, with some pretty good decor and a lot of tvs... and can get very crowded. There are two bars and two patios - a side patio and back patio. The first bar on the right opens up to the side patio so people can essentially order from both sides of this bar. Which is good for keeping the venue breezy and cool, and in theory good for ordering drinks but the bartenders were definitely outnumbered on Friday night. Early on in the night I'd made a comment about there being so many bartenders, but I quickly regretted saying that because I eventually found out it would take ~20 min to order a drink and half the staff couldn't serve (bar backs). read more

Cons: I probably sat for 5-10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me, our food took approximately 45 to come out. Some details: -I highly recommend the Nashville Chicken on a biscuit (just FYI I'm a huge hot sauce fan and took the recommendation to go with the Mild Nashville chicken; I'm so happy I did this as the mild was *spicy*). Also recommend the hash browns. You can add a variety of things to the hash browns! -the Manmosa was fantastic: vodka, beer, and OJ (I think that's correct). 32 ounces for $11. What a steal. -they offer a Bloody Mary bar but I didn't get this so no clue how good it is. I saw you can add bacon though, so at minimum it is lovely. -our server was very nice. This place was great. What a find, just towards the north end of the Short North. The atmosphere is awesome, with indoor and outdoor seating, and two bars. We came for brunch after seeing reviews of the Bloody Mary Bar, and were not disappointed. First, they have three different salts you can put on your rim, as well as three different mixes to choose from. I went with spicy rim and traditional mix. Both were delicious. The options of things to put in the drink were amazing. Cheese, salami, asparagus, celery, pickles, peppers, olives, even jalapeño poppers, onion rings, cheese curds, and lil smokies. This was absolutely amazing, and a meal within itself. My wife and I split the Nashville mild chicken biscuit. I'm glad the bartender warned us about the heat, because we would've originally gone with the hot chicken. The flavor was amazing and the chicken was great quality. I'm so excited to have a spot like Standard Hall in Columbus. From the chill atmosphere, to the awesome drinks, Standard is my new go-to. The best part about the space is the patio. It's HUGE, and they have plans to expand it. The inside has two bars, which is great for busy nights. I highly recommend the boozy popsicles with a side of champagne- perfect on a hot summer day! I haven't had a chance to try anything on the food menu yet. The only downfall right now is that since the place is so new (and awesome), there can be a long line to get in at night. At the preview event, it was a bit chaotic as expected. The space is lively. We tried 3 cocktails and liked 1 of the 3. Red sangria was on point. A great brunch spot to try on a Saturday or Sunday. It's your typical short north restaurant but it does deliver. I love the atmosphere and everyone else seems to as well, fills up quickly! It is a shareable so you get quite a bit of chips. If you enjoy nachos, then you should definitely get their nachos shareable. IT IS HUGE and only $5!! You cannot beat that! I get full from just the nachos alone. But if you don't like any of the shareable, then I definitely recommend getting their new buffalo chicken pizza. IT IS HEAVENLY. Came here on a Monday night and it was decently busy, with a reserved party in the back. The aesthetic in this place is very nice, with huge open windows above the bar that you can see into their outside seating, wooden tables, cool huge but dim lightbulbs, and cute wall-tucked booths. We sat in one of the booths. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich (hot), a strawberry daiquiri popsicle, and a bbq chicken pizza to share with the table. My sister got a grilled chicken sandwich with tater tots and a Bellini popsicle. Honestly the food was pretty average. It definitely didn't taste bad but I think it fits into the average bar scene. I would give it a 3.5/5 but rounded up because I felt like the popsicles were a cute idea. Unfortunately, the popsicles were very weak and didn't give a buzz at all. They tasted good and were refreshing on a hot June day. I might come back on a Thursday where they're $1 instead of $5. The chicken sandwich was crispy and the coleslaw was decent but lacked flavor. It was a good level of spicy and the pickles were a nice touch. The grilled sandwich was pretty good and juicy and the tots were fresh and crispy. The bbq chicken pizza was good and flavorful. After just a couple of visits to Standard Hall, I was hooked! The place is so fun that I decided to celebrate my birthday brunch with them and now it doesn't feel like a Sunday Funday without a quick visit for a Boozy Pop (as also display in my profile pic on almost every social media account I have lol)! First, can we just pay homage to their AMAZING bloody Mary bar. By far one of my favorite ones in Columbus. Probably dangerous but the only thing that could make it better is an unlimited option. If you're a fan and you haven't checked this out yet - RUN next weekend for this alone! And if you're not a fan of bloody's - go for the boozy pop or the manmosa (think oj, orange vodka and a wheat beer) we are big fans. Next time we pop in, I want to get one of the boozy lemonades and add a housemade peach puree, the girl sitting next to me had this and it sounded amazing. Typically any meal for me is the sweet option so I usually go for the french toast sticks which are rolled in cinnamon toast crunch (THE CEREAL) and have brown sugar whipped cream (drool) but at our last visit, I let the husband talk me into something different so we went with the Nashville Hot Chicken Biscuit. We got it Big Nasty style which came with an egg and gray. I thought we ordered Mild but based on how spicy this was, we had to have gotten the spicy one (thank goodness for the boozy pop's to cool my mouth off). And this was the kind of heat that was hot but didn't lack in flavor (ya know, where it's so hot that all you taste is hot). This was hot but so juicy and flavorful. Damn that Reed Woogerd for continuing to open spots that I want to hate but don't actually hate at all. He sucked me in first with Forno and now Standard Hall. What's next? It was a'ight, but in my head I painted it as just another bro-tastic ShoNo spot with mediocre food and drinks. I mayyyyy have quietly nicknamed it Substandard Hall. Well, much like with Forno, I was a big ol' jackass. I recently--and begrudgingly--went back to Standard Hall, and man... they nailed it. Like, nailed everything. The service was awesome. Everybody was so darn friendly and helpful, and they checked on us just the right amount so that we never needed a single thing. The food menu is a bit like upscale carnival food, and I mean that in the very best way. We're talking tater tot poutine, wings, pizza, tacos... and boozy popsicles! And for those who are veg or gf, Standard Hall has you covered. I had a gf pepperoni pizza and a Downeast cider, and it was everything my heart could have wanted on a random Thursday night. The space itself is gorgeous. Big, open, bright, and airy, with a killer patio. I'm not in the Short North much, but I am really happy that Reed & co. are down there killing it. They could easily be mediocre and still make shit tons of money in this part of town, but they aren't mediocre--they actually give a fuck about food, drinks, and experiences. I wanted to like this place so much but my experience was not great. It's a fun environment, great music and just a good space for a Sunday brunch. They do separate tabs right away which makes it easy. Our table ordered all of our food and we had drinks to tie us over. I got the blueberry crush and the flavor was good but the muddled berries were not a great addition because they just kept getting sucked up the straw. Sadly i can't really rate the food because my full order didn't get put in. All i had were the $8 hash browns (yikes--and if you're thinking for $8 it must be a meal, it's definitely a side) When the waitress brought everyone else's food out she asked if we were missing anything. And we were missing my biscuits and gravy. She went back to check and came back to tell me my order wasn't put in, she said that unfortunately the kitchen is on an hour wait for food. Wouldn't you think mine could be expedited given the error made by the staff? So I didn't get to eat because i wasn't given the chance. Super bummed they didn't try to make it right by comping a drink or the hashbrowns. Can't say I'll be returning because this experience was so unpleasant. read more
