do not recommend this establishment to anyone expecting even the most basic standards of service. The staff -- including several individuals who referred to themselves as managers -- showed a complete lack of professionalism and organization. During my visit, I felt as though this business treated customers with no respect whatsoever, almost as if they were less than human, with zero courtesy, culture, or basic customer care. In any business, the customer spends their money to enjoy their time and therefore deserves dignity, respect, and proper treatment. At the end of the day, we are all human beings, and mutual respect should be the foundation of any service environment. Unfortunately, this place failed completely in that regard. The physical conditions were equally unacceptable. A bar operating in the 21st century should not be offering a porta-potty as its restroom. This alone says a lot about the lack of standards. Even worse, I noticed something extremely concerning: the drink prices were different depending on the person ordering. How is it possible that a bar charges different prices to different customers for the same drink? This is unprofessional, unethical, and completely unacceptable. Additionally, I observed two security/police officers near the establishment who behaved in an unprofessional, disrespectful, and offensive manner, which only added to the negative experience. They have a lot of high top seating and bar top seating, and they have a few booths. -Bathrooms are clean. Sometimes you don't know in bars, but the bathrooms here were clean. They've moved to air-only hand drying (no paper towels to be had) which is slightly annoying, but the bathrooms themselves are good. -Really good brunch options! The Cinnamon Roll French Toast was AMAZING and sugary, and the Pretzel and "house wiz" cheese was delicious too. We were into the Mozerella Bites too. -Sorta-separate area from Standard Hall functions as a second bar (two bars in here!) and a separate "event space" for events. We've been here for multiple events throughout the years now, and it works great for allowing Standard Hall to stay open to general patrons while the event space still serves cocktails and a private event. CONS: -This place can be loud. The music alone is loud, but when you start getting crowds, it gets really loud really quickly. It may be hard to hear your tablemates. -Short North parking can be a bit of a pain. That being said, Standard Hall is a bit north-er than the busiest parts of the Short North, so it's easier and cheaper to find a place to park. I absolutely loved the vibes but you can skip the food! Definitely a good spot on N High Street. The inside resembles more of a night club, but the outside has a big fire pit and tables surround it. They have plenty of access to the bar through a trailer and then open windows inside as well where you can get service. The night we were there they also had a mechanical bull. I'm not sure if this is always there, but it was definitely fun to watch the patrons try and stay on the bull for a hat. The food can be skipped. While large portions, the quality of it wasn't great. We ordered two wraps and wings. The wraps tasted fine but didn't make us feel great after we ate them. The service was also poor. We had no condiments and/or silverware and it was impossible to flag someone down. Keep in mind that there's also no set closing time. The restaurant closes based on the amount of business they're getting which makes sense, but if you call they don't answer the phone so you could show up to them being closed. read more

Standard Hall has that chill inducing, public building-type polished concrete flooring with the late 1800s Victorian London-type of wooden walls and doorways, all painted black. Add in lots of windows with plenty of natural light and you have a really nice place to spend your time. The service was very good too, as my waitress was nice and relaxed. You could tell there was no tension in her body when she talked to me, which was refreshing. As for the food, I thought the signature fried chicken sandwich was fine, but I think their bun situation needs a second look - it fell apart on me making for a messy experience. Unfortunately I didn't see the paper sleeves holding the silverware in the beer bucket at the head of the table until it was too late. I really enjoyed the loaded waffle fries though. The sandwich and the half price Happy Hour waffle fries, water to drink, came to $25 total after tax and 21% tip. I was disappointed, however, to learn I was billed for a side of waffle fries served with the sandwich. As I also ordered the loaded fries, I told the waitress to hold the side and she did. I have been to Standard several times in the past before the pandemic, during undergrad at OSU. I typically would just go on the weekends and get drinks with my friends. We sat down at a table and ordered food, just like a normal restaurant. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. We ordered typical bar food and beer. They had Corona on tap, which I have never seen before so that was fun. The food was delicious. I did order the mac and cheese, since that is one of my favorite foods and I get it everywhere. It was okay, it seemed like it was sitting out for a while before it got to our table. Still pretty good though, but not the best mac and cheese. We ended up staying for a while and had multiple drinks. Toward the end, we got a different waiter because we saw ours had left. We would have liked a little heads up, so that we could close out our tab with her so that she would get the tip since some places distribute the tips differently. Maybe it didn't matter at Standard? After seeing some great reviews for here, I stopped in for brunch with a group of friends on a recent visit to Columbus. So happy we chose this place. We next met our server, Allix (probably spelling this wrong sorry!). She could not have been any more fun, nice, and helpful. She answered every one of our many questions about the different drinks and food options. For drinks, my wife and friend's wife went with a mimosa. These are different than your ordinary mimosas. They come in a giant mug and also have a little bit of vodka in them, which gave an extra kick. Either way they tasted delicious. I stuck with one of the local beers which had a great flavor. Our table ordered the pretzel appetizer to start, which was really good. The mustard sauce had a great flavor to it. For my meal I went with the mild Nashville Hot Chicken Biscuit. This was one of the best sandwiches/meals I have had in awhile. The biscuit was made perfectly and had a great flavor. It was solid enough to not fall apart with the chicken and sauce, but not so much dough that it overwhelmed the other flavors. The hot chicken was some of the best I have ever had, including places in Nashville. The chicken was so crispy and fresh. The hot sauce they used had a sweet, but still spicy kick to it. We had a blast at their Sunday Brunch! I wish I got our servers name because he made our experience that much better. Very friendly, very informative and was there whenever we needed something. For bar food, I thought they did a nice job with out chicken biscuit breakfast. We were going to go with the Nashville hot but the server recommended we tried the mild first. SO glad he did. Standard is one of those places where the brunch scene and nightlife scene are vastly different. Nightlife is crowded, loud, fun, and a good place to go out in the Short North for OSU students or young adults in their 20s. The inside is large with 2 full bars. There's a large gravel outside area that usually has a bar and games. I prefer brunch here over the nightlife scene though. They don't take reservations, so I've always tried to get there when they open and it's easy to get a table. The Bloody Mary bar is AWESOME. It's a good price at $13 if you load up with all the additional food items. There are 3 bases you can choose from (signature, spicy, green tomatillo), 3 liquors (vodka, gin, tequila), and house blended rims. Then you can choose from additional hot sauces and condiments. There are wooden skewers by the food and you can add as much as your mug will hold. I love a pickle, bacon, a skewer of olives, a skewer of cheese and sausage, and a skewer of the hot fried food (onion ring, cheese curd, jalapeño popper, Vienna sausage). All of that could be a meal itself if you wanted. I love adding an order of the hash browns to go along with my Bloody Mary. The hash browns are a good portion and come in a mini cast iron skillet. All I really need to say is, get the hot chicken biscuit for brunch. Just do it and thank me later. The first time I ate here, I went for the french toast (super yummy too but not unique). It's one of the most popular spots in the area. The service is usually good even though it gets busy often. If you are looking for hipster spots this is a good choice. It's owned by the one guy who also owns Forno. That is a hipster take on pizza. It's a formula followed by this establishment. This is a hipster take on Mexican and Southern food. It's usually crowded but the service is not that bad. There's a lot of meat but there are some vegetarian options. It has a selection of popsicles made with alcohol. They even have them in a bombsicle where they put it in a glass of Procitti. I had the mango bombsicle. This is $5 for just the popsicle but with the glass of alcohol it's twice as much. I also had Yuca tacos to eat. These are $3 each and they are small tacos. I think the drinks and food taste good. It also has a fun atmosphere mostly. I had mixed feelings walking into Standard Hall the first time. I wasn't quite sure what to expect and everyone I asked wasn't too sure about it either. Regardless, I was open to having my own experience and just seeing what happens. After all, they have a great rating! My friends and I were looking to meet up somewhere for a Tribe playoff game. I walked in and was told by the hostess that its seat yourself. I actually love this! I can't stand when I'm sat in a terrible seat in the restaurant (like right next to the bathroom or waiter station). This left it up to me and my friends and we got an awesome table right in front of a TV with the game on. It was early enough on a Thursday night where it wasn't completely packed. While it was loud and they didn't have the sound of the game on, they did have an awesome playlist of early 2000's jams. We were grooving and singing along the entire time we were there. We started out with drinks and our waitress was fantastic. She offered great recommendations and always happened to show up right at the end of a beer, eager to refill. We were super pleased. Eventually I got hungry and decided on the mac and cheese. I wasn't sure what to expect but a friend at the table confirmed it was a good choice. She was 100% accurate in that regard. It was exactly what I was looking for and I may have just found my go-to mac and cheese in Cbus. It came out in a cast iron skillet, piping hot. I added jalapenos and it was good af. It was super cheesy, ooey and gooey, and the crumbs on top added great texture. I'll definitely be getting this again at some point.
