Stan White (SW) realty manages this home but used VRBO to post. Rented vaca home arrival 6/10/23. Received text from SW after check in that washer broken. (Why they waited until after check in is a mystery ). They stated (after I pressed what we were to do) that Maybe fixed in couple days. But then No repair and no communication regarding if it would ever be fixed. It wasn't. Of course none of the occupants of this big home had enuf clothes. Time spent at Laundromat instead the beach. Also evening of check-in no linens. No one at rental office answering phones including linen service. Spent the night at Walmart spending $$ on linens. Of yeah - stopped up toilet too (but that was fixed next day). All week I heard "you'll be compensated " - per KC of SW. But once u check out nothing! Ghosted. Update: SW refunded the money spent w linens plus little for "the inconvenience " a week after check out. No notification but found in review of bank account. We just rented 1707 South Memorial Blvd in Kill Devil Hills, this house should be condemned. Nothing was clean when we got there, all bedrooms were old and not taken care of. Kitchen appliances were dirty, beds were old and not stable to lay on. We specifically rented this house due to the elevator, when we got there it was broken, were told it would be fixed on Tuesday (we got there Saturday) and nobody showed, no call, and nothing from Stan White. We had one person who was basically confined to the first floor all week. Completely unacceptable!! We called and emailed multiple times with no response. When we left and sent another email with the laundry list of issues, their response was basically "we don't care you stayed the week so oh well". We learned the hard way that this place is a long-standing joke among OBX realtors and should be avoided at all costs. They "manage" rentals which when upon arrival aren't ready in a wide variety of ways, and when you try to call them to get satisfaction, you're lucky if you even get token lip service, let alone any real service. And good luck getting any. We also had one h### of a time getting our security deposit back. Frankly I'm amazed they're still in business; they're like used car salesmen in the worst of ways. Not the floor wasn't swept, or the bed wasn't made but a medical problem that was treated as if it wasn't their problem because they don't own the house, but they will placate to your situation and act as if they care. However they rent the house and one would assume the company who is renting would want to insure their "product" is well maintained. We paid for bed linens and towels. There were none in the rental when we arrived. We called the after hours emergency number. The answering service told us no one gets messages after hours and that we would have to do without any sheets or towels until the next business day. At least there's a partial roll of paper towels we can dry our hands on. So here we sit with no sheets or towels after a day of driving. I guess it's a good thing we aren't locked out or we'd be sleeping in the porch. UPDATE 1: We received a text late in the evening that towels were delivered OUTSIDE the house. We went outside and after looking around we found a pile of linens lying loose on the sand covered deck by the shower. There was ONE fitted sheet for a twin bed, THREE hand towels, and ONE bath towel. All for a four bedroom, three bath house. No response when the text message was replied to. I hope that's not the delivery! UPDATE 2: Got up in the morning, went to make coffee. Pulled 5 coffee mugs from the cabinet that were all dirty. Covered in coffee stains on the sides and layered on the bottom. Not stained, but put in cabinet unwashed. Washed those and began pulling out many other dirty dishes from the cabinets for rewashing. UPDATE #3: Finally. The next morning there were emails back and forth, sending us looking in various places for the towels and bed linens. The linens were said to have been delivered at 11:30 PM, even though check-in was 4:00PM. We were wondering why getting these items was a treasure hunt for us, and Stan White people weren't their cars finding the linens. Finally after lunch, the linen service came by with the supplies. They had delivered to the wrong house. The final word from Stan White when we let know we finally had towels and sheets was "LOL!" read more

We rented in off-season. Our calls were either ignored or the response time was very slow. Three times we contacted them because of nails on driveway and Carport full of sand. Other complaints were also ignored. Only issue that was repaired were faulty smoke detectors. Won't use again. Won't recommend to friends. read more

Horrible experience renting from this man and his company. We chose Carolina Fever located at 9331 S Old Oregon Inlet Rd. This is owned personally by Mr White. The listing says the house is handicap ready, but there is no way for a handicap person to ever get to the beach!!! The cabinets were falling apart. The house smelled musty and when questioned, I was told it was cleaned to EPA standards. How could this be if the AC vent cover is caked with dust and the filter on the vacuum is black and chewed up? The house had many broken items and the grill was unfit to use. And don't get me started on the roaches!!! Yes ROACHES! I had to wait 3 days before pest control came to spray the entire house, which was basically for show. Mold and mildew around exterior doors on the second level From water damage. The list could go on an and on. My vacation was spent contacting the company repeatedly, documenting these issues and not relaxing. When asked for a partial refund, I was given the run around and finally offered $200. This is not even 2% of the money I paid! Stay away from this property and company!!! read more

Checked in on 7/11/20. Place was dirty--duvets were stained, crumbs on furniture, large wet area in bedroom floor, leftover washcloth. We vacuumed , emptied the vacuum container twice. We called the office, "due to high volume...email us". We emailed them a week ago, no response. The app associated with our stay was garbage-- didn't work, was not tied to their office system apparently. We've stayed with them many times and had not issues. This time was not good. As of this writing, 7/20/2020, I have not received any resolution to my concerns (or my $169 credit). By the way, I do understand the impact of COVID, but at least respond and say, "we're overwhelmed, are incompetent", something! read more

Posted on behalf of my father: My family and I were extremely disappointed and displeased with your rental property for a whole litany of reasons. To be frank, we found the unit to be inhabitable and unsafe, and your employee who visited the property was rude, condescending, and uncaring. A few examples of issues with the house include: -Absolute filth, including dust everywhere, debris on the floor, food particles both in and out of the house, trash left under the deck, sticky residue on dressers, stains on the furniture/carpet, greasy residue on the walls, sticky spots on the hard floor, sticky spots on the dining room table, hair left in the bathrooms, stains and dirt on the ceiling in the entryway, and more -Continuing from that, nearly every item in the kitchen has some degree of filth (including lipstick stains on wine glasses), which causes me to fear a biohazard from contamination -The house has an overwhelming stench of dogs, cigarette smoke, and urine, which has increased potency when the temperature in the unit is higher -Many items are broken/nonfunctional/damaged, including one of the guest beds being broken/sagging, dresser drawers not working, holes in the backs of doors, chips in the toilet seat, nail polish on the toilet seat, and bathroom doors that cannot be shut properly without force -There is clearly no upkeep done on the property. In addition to all of the previously listed items, the bug issue is beyond that which I've ever seen (imagine: THOUSANDS of bugs coating every exterior window/door surface of the home, trapping you inside, spiders in every nook and cranny, and wasps [which one of our guests is allergic to] climbing into the siding of the home and building nests), the paint peeling off the exterior benches, the interior paint is messy and clearly rushed, the decks are rough and full of splinter-inducing fragments, the ceiling covered in cracks and potential water damage, and the deck railings so wobbly that I would fear to have children as guests in this home. -It is impossible to justify $155.61 for a linen package when the linens arrive stained, scratchy, barely fitting the bed, and left in a crate in the driveway. -Most importantly, the internet in the unit was nonfunctional for (at the minimum) 24 hours. We vacated the unit prior to it being fixed, which was roughly 24 hours after arrival. Three of our four guests require internet this week. The property did not have it as promised, and this was NOT a fault of a storm or act of God--the internet company stated that the owner canceled it on Friday June 28th, when our arrival was Saturday June 29th. I could continue on with my list, but I think I've more than proven my point. These issues are all well beyond normal wear and tear; these are extreme issues that are caused by a deficiency of proper maintenance. Due to this, we vacated the property. At this time, the internet was not working, no cleaners had come to the property, and no effort was made to fix the unit's many problems. An employee visited the property to confirm the issues with the apartment, but she was rude, condescending, and told us it's "not that bad" (immediately following the need to shake PHYSICAL filth from her hand into the sink after wiping one of the surfaces of the kitchen). We vacated the unit aproximately 24 hours after arriving due to this experience and requested a refund. We were told that we would not be receiving money back, even though we detailed the issues listed above to Stan White. I would absolutely not rent with this company, and I implore you (the reader) to see how many similar negative reviews there are about this rental agency. Even locals to OBX shook their heads unsurprisingly when we told them about our experience, and they told us that Stan White's quality of homes and level of customer service has gone downhill in the past few years. Here are the details of our poor experience with Stan White last week.  After an 8 hour road trip we arrived at the house and discovered that there were no linens as I had paid for.  I then spent the next hour and half calling every number I could find and was given by the "emergency" number.  That number turned out to be a joke because the "on call" person never responded.  I finally received a call from a Jean McLean who said that she just happened to check email and saw one I had sent about this issue.  She first wanted me to drive to the office to meet her to pick up sheets but then texted me to say she would bring them to the house.  So finally at around 9pm we had sheets.  When she arrived she admitted that Stan White had dropped the ball and never sent our linen package request to MoneysWorth. She said we would be credited the cost plus some for our trouble but of course that did not happen.  Then on Monday my grandson had a situation that required us to be able to do laundry which according to the website this house should have had.  We started opening doors and there was no washer and dryer behind any door that would open.  So again I had to call Stan White and found out that they were behind a door on the carport that we were not given a key to.  So once again someone from Stan White had to come to the house to deliver these.  Additionally the Wifi password that was on the Stan White envelope did not work, and I was told to call a number to troubleshoot, which I did not feel was my job to do. Luckily my husband noticed a table top tent that mentioned something about Wifi and low a behold on the back of that was the correct Wifi password. This whole experience left a very bad taste in my mouth for Stan White.  Seems that everything was very disorganized and customer service was less than impressive. I will add that they have yet to respond to my emails or reviews. read more

COCKROACHES AND BLACK MOLD. Stayed at Carolina Fever 9331 Old Oregon Inlet and had a horrible experience. The house is very rundown, with black mold all over including in the air vents and showers. We also saw several cockroaches My mother developed a very bad sinus infection from the mold. The coffee maker didn't work, the kitchen was VERY ill equipped, the bedding was soiled and stuffing was coming out. When we arrived, it was clear that the cleaners had only done a cursory clean as there were literally piles of dirt all over the house and feces in one of the toilets. We took our complaints to Stan White and nothing was done to remedy the situation. Sadly, I see we aren't the first and won't be the last. STAY AWAY! Upon arrival, they left us without any linens, pillows, and a starter kit (toilet paper, trash bags). Toilet seat broken and screen door ripped. Kitchen sink faucet hose leaking majorly. They failed to come out every day to fix until the last day. Had me clean up their water so it didn't leak into the condo below. Had me waiting around two days when nobody showed. Lied about a Tech coming out mid-week. Plumber finally fixed a $12 part found at the local hardware store that any Stan White employee could have fixed. Plumber admitted Stan White was aware of the leak before our stay and has been lying. Much wasted family time, cooking/cleaning in the bathroom, forced to eat out, and zero communication. I strongly recommend renting from a different rental company. We rented SN231 from Stan White Realty in July of 2020. The property was misrepresented on the listing and additionally had safety issues, mold, and general neglect. The unsafe balcony railing was acknowledged by Dan as extremely dangerous and fixed within 48 hours. However no one has been willing to discuss or resolve any of the other issues. We chose this property specifically because the elderly grandparents in our group could sit on the balcony and watch the kids play in the surf. We double checked the pictures to ensure this. Additionally we chose it because it supposedly had access to a boardwalk from the front and back of the house. I chatted with Donna Walston on 2 October 2019 to specifically ask about this. In truth, there is no view of the beach - not even close. Additionally there is no boardwalk accessible from the front and back of the house. I have provided pictures of the ad photo, the actual property, and the conversation in which Donna states "There is a boardwalk next to the home. Right beside it. Accessible from the front and back of the home." The property condition was poor with mold, cleaning issues, ill-repair, etc. I offered to assist the company with identifying these issues and providing pictures, but the company has not accepted. The property condition is unfortunate however the false representation of the property in the listing is unacceptable. I called, left many messages, and sent emails over the week we were at the property. Following that week, I continued to email to attempt to get resolution. My first productive emails were with Kristina Cifers. Her emails said things like: "This will not end because you have vacated the premises. We are short-staffed this year and will address all concerns but we have to schedule these. I will be contacting you to put closure to this within the next couple of days." And "I will get back to you. Our turnaround for cases of compensation are not priority but they are important to us. I have you on my list and will connect with you." And then I never heard back from her despite touching base several times. Next I escalated the issue to John White CEO of Stan White Realty. I got hold of him on 8 September 2020 and presented the issue to him. He stated he would look into the problem and get back to me. He also stated that he wasn't sure what his company could do because the accuracy of the listing was the owner's realm. Come to find out, according to the tax records, the home is owned by the owners of Stan White Realty - Stan and Susie White. As of 2 October, I have emailed and left messages for John White with no response. My Better Business Bureau complaint has gone unanswered by the company. The North Carolina Real Estate Commission is investigating but also has not received a response from Stan White Realty. read more

I want to start off on a positive note because we love OBX so so much. The KD100 Mai Tai property was located near everything, great restaurants, a quick walk to the beach, Avalon Pier, stores, and shops. However, after walking into this property shortly after checking in, I knew everything else would quickly go downhill. The carpets were soaking wet, so although I'm glad they were shampooed, having an infant who crawls around getting soaked after arriving almost an hour after check in time was pretty inconvenient. Checking out the rooms and bathrooms made us notice how old and small everything was. This house was "just cleaned" but we found a dead cockroach on one mattress and coffee still in the coffee pot. The fridge and freezer smelled like straight fish and caused our food and drinks to stink for a couple days even though we wiped it down before putting anything in. The couches were stained and the kitchen contained dollar tree quality pans and utensils that weren't cooking/prepping food adequately or properly we ending up buying our own pans. The grill was completely eroded and corroded, we ending up having to buy a small one because there was no way the provided grill would work. There was a list of cable tv stations in the living room that was supposed to be provided but once we started trying to watch something every channel asked us to upgrade the cable package so they weren't provided. There weren't any chairs on the crows nest and you couldn't really see the ocean from it. The only thing that I liked having was the washer and dryer, but having it on the ground floor was slightly inconvenient. I have contacted Stan White Reality 3 times now with our groups complaints and have not heard back. The manager apparently is "never there" and I feel like we are just going to keep getting the run around. I've never spent this much for a week in OBX but wanted to be close to the beach so we chose this property. For almost 3k this house was extremely falsely advertised and not worth the money, we will continue to stick with Airbnb. Stan White Reality needs to step up their communication skills and a Manager should always be on the property to address problems and issues especially if people are spending large amounts of money. We will never rent from them again and I have almost no doubt that our issues will not be addressed and we will never get a call back. read more

Visited Simple Pleasures the week of 8/25/18-9/1/18. Feel sorry for the owners of this property, since Stan White not managing very well for them. House was filthy when we got there (kitchen and bathroom floors, carpeting needed vacuumed, cobwebs everywhere, food found under beds), some of the linens/towels were mildewed, and light bulbs needed replaced. The advertised pool table was also missing. No one from property management ever bothered to contact me, even after being told they would. Rented a house in 2009 thru them and everything was just about perfect, but apparently no longer! What a shame, since no matter how big or small a house, or whatever it costs, if it's filthy, not good! read more

My family has been going to the Outer Banks since my mom was a kid and it's such a special place for us. We've been using Stan White Realty for the past 5 or so years and have been very happy with their property, policies and service. Don't doubt that your realty co. choice matters! We've had disasters with others. Things have fallen through the cracks once or twice with them but, overall they are very nice, courteous, attentive and friendly, and eager to help you have a wonderful stay. My sisters and I rented a house for my parents' 50th Anniversary. Imagine our surpise, after spending so much on a week before Labor Day, we found mouse droppings all over the kitchen, none of the smoke detectors worked and a THIRD floor outside railing was loose. We had 5 families staying at the house and NONE of the mattresses were in any way comfortable and at least one of the bathrooms had a slow drain (so slow it took a full day to drain!). And so, we let them know about these specific health and safety issues. Here is the response from the General Manager: "Since the issues were not reported and we were not given a chance to resolve them, no compensation will be issued. The lease agreement states- . PROPERTY: A) Extras: Televisions, DVD's, Stereos, telephones, grills, etc., herein called "extras", when advertised as available in or when supplied in a leased property are supplied at no extra charge as a convenience for use by Tenant and Tenant's guests. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown of "extras", Agent will have the "extra" repaired as fast as practical. Tenant agrees that there will be no refund for malfunction or breakdown of "extras". In the event of malfunction of any other appliance or feature, including air conditioners, fireplaces, cable or internet, Tenant must notify Agent so repair of malfunction can be made. Agent will expedite repair, but no refund of rent will be made. Please relay to guest that we appreciate them notifying us at checkout, but no compensation is due." I suppose we should have made a big deal of the awful condition of the house which we rented for our Parents and thus made their stay uncomfortable. WHY ELSE WOULD WE NOT REPORT IT BUT ASK ABOUT IT AT THE END?!?!?!? PLEASE RECONSIDER BEFORE YOU RENT FOR VACATION I would never recommend Stan White Reality again after the vacation from hell we experienced this summer. When we arrived, they were kind and courteous and we were allowed to even check in early. When we got there, there were you're typical issues such as lights out, but no big deal. There were nails sticking out on the deck, one my mom got cut on, so that became an issue having a couple 2 year olds around. The crib we rented for my son had a tag on it saying "for parts only" and had BLACK MOLD on it! I called and they exchanged it but not until 11pm, way after his bedtime. The Big problem came Sunday night, our second night there. My nephew was sitting on the bottom part of the bunk bed, when the 150lbs plywood piece COLLAPSED on top of him. No one was on the top and no one was on it since we had arrived!!! Thankfully he wasn't hurt bad, but we didn't hear from anyone for HOURS after frantic calls and emails. Needless to say, the only thing they did was agree to dismantle the bunk beds since the kids (all under 11) were TERRIFIED to go into the room. They ended up sleeping in the living rooms and other rooms with the adults for the whole week putting a damper on it for everyone. We attempted to speak to the homeowners, get their name(s), and the name of the inspector who viewed the property prior to us coming in. To this day, we never got ANY of that information. The woman from Stan White Reality assured us we would be compensated at least partially, gave us a coupon for a TERRIBLE meal for the time being, and said that she would meet with us face to face Saturday morning before we left...she never showed and never answered. They eventually emailed us and said we would get ABSOLUTELY NO COMPENSATION AT ALL! I absolutely couldn't believe it. We didn't ask, THEY said we would for the troubles, THEY assured us it would be handled even if we went home. Apparently they do not care if your child gets injured so I would think twice before renting with them. The man who lived next door to the property we rented even said, they absolutely HAD to give us the homeowners and inspectors name and he was absolutely floored they didn't send someone out THAT night to make sure that the child was OKAY. We have been staying in the Outer Banks since I was a kid and have NEVER rented a property in the condition of Almost Home that we rented from Stan White Realty in October 2020. The pictures online did not match the house (and were taken off their website after we left). One bedroom was unusable because of what looked and smelled like a mold issue, the door do the deck didn't open, most of the electrical outlets in the family room didn't work, the kitchen cabinets were a mess, the gas grill was covered with mold and on and on. We were halfway into our stay by the time anybody answered my emails or calls. The maintenance supervisor that finally called said the issues couldn't be fixed while the house was tenant occupied. Finally connected with a supervisor who blamed the homeowners for the condition of the house and said our contract wasn't with Stan White but with the homeowners so they couldn't make it right by issuing a partial refund without the homeowners approval. They finally offered $150 (we paid over 2k) but this was after months of emails and a complaint to the BBB. This is by far the worst rental company we have ever dealt with, they had an excuse for everything and in my opinion were dishonest. Will never rent from them again, so many great rental companies in OBX, this one was the worst! read more

I wish I had found these other reviews before committing to a house thru Stan White. On their website there are no reviews posted for their rental properties either. Now I know why. I recently rented an 8BR, 7 1/2 BA, 3-story house in Nags Head. There were so many maintenance and housekeeping issues! Maybe previous guests didn't take the time to report inoperable items but at the very least the cleaning crew should be responsible for reporting the obvious things that need repair and attention before the next check-in. Just some of the things I found in the first 24 hours: a dozen burned out light bulbs; carpet stains; torn upholstery; broken & missing shower curtain hooks; a broken curtain rod; multiple folding closet doors off the tracks. Add to that chipped dishes and coffee mugs, the bottom rack of the dishwasher was broken, all mattresses were horrible & need replacing, and every lamp shade interior and light bulb was caked in dust. Oven mitts stored in the kitchen drawer were covered w/ dried food. Fortunately, many issues reported were addressed during our stay. Each time I txt'd a list of unpleasant discoveries, I received back within minutes a personal reply. Maintenance arrived on day 3 and again on day 5 and took care of plumbing issues and missing parts. By then I had stopped reporting anything else because it was sucking up my vacation time. Renting a beach house was a learning experience for me. Of the 20 questions I posed prior to signing the rental agreement, less than half were answered. I found numerous discrepancies in policies and procedures between information on the website, in the rental agreement and what the staff was telling me over the phone. My worst rental experience in the OBX. I usually rent a place for part of a week in the summer in the OBX. I have have had good rental experiences with every company except this one. When we arrived, the house was dirty (dog hair everywhere, dirty floor, boarded up windows), had several broken windows, and rooms that were completely dark because the lights wouldn't work (which we couldn't use at all). The house was clearly in pretty bad disrepair (even the floor was coming up) and was not stocked with some basic things (like pot holders). The only plus size was the house was located on the water. I called about the cleanliness and they send someone the next day. They never dealt with any of the maintenance issues. They also don't return the security deposit for 45 days (and don't return communications asking why it takes so long to return the deposit). Beware, they also ask you a lot of unnecessary questions before rental. When I told them we were a group traveling in our thirties, they wanted to know whether we were couples (even going so far as to ask if we were married or not). My guess is they charge you more for a deposit if you are not a married family, which seems entirely unrelated to whether you are likely to damage a house. read more

We booked a much needed vacation for July after months in lockdown in NY. Days after booking, NY state imposed a mandatory two week quarantine for anyone returning to NY from multiple states, including NC. I reached out and explained that this was impossible for us and we would need to cancel our trip. Kristina Cifers got back to me quickly, relisted our unit, quickly re-rented it, and even waived the usual cancellation fee. I am very grateful for their assistance. We were so disappointed to have to cancel, and their fast help and generosity made that aspect of cancelling our trip as easy as possible. read more

Our check in day was Saturday and we arrived Sunday morning to an uncleaned and disguising house. Absolutely nothing had been cleaned there was still trash left in trash cans and tons of sand everywhere, toothpaste in the sink and broken glass in the back room (that both my daughters stepped in). So at four in the morning we cleaned and sanitized the whole house because we couldn't stand to sleep or be in a house that wasn't cleaned or sanitized. I emailed the company with a quick response from housekeeping that they would "work us in" and be over in a few minutes but by that time we had already cleaned and by the previous reviews we probably did a more thorough job of it. I asked her to investigate what had happened and get back to me. No response. When we arrived the grass had not been mowed and no one has mowed all week. It's currently a foot high! I will never rent from this realty place again even if they are still around next year. read more

Our treatment from this company, particularly Kristina Cifers, who was the "broker in charge" was highly unprofessional. I would be wary of booking with them because when problems arise, their response is negligent. Prior to our vacation, I had contact with the vacation specialist who I had spoke with during booking to make sure that everything with the reservation was good, with everything going on with the pandemic. She stated that everything with the reservation was fine. According to the website, we could pick up our keys at 2pm but not check in until 4pm unless told otherwise. So on that Saturday, we went to the office location around 2 to get the keys. The office was closed but had a box there for key pickups and drop-offs. There was a note attached that stated that the house and keys would not be available until 4pm. No big deal, we go get all of our groceries for the week and return after 4pm. We got our keys and a note attached stating that the cleaning staff was backed up today and that the house would be ready from 4-6pm. I never received an email, call, or text about the delay in check in. We went to the house to see if anyone was there. No one was there but the house was dirty. We put our groceries in the fridge so that they wouldn't spoil. I then emailed Kristina Cifers since she was listed as the contact person. She emailed me back stated that our house was next on the list to be cleaned and that she would contact me when it was ready. I replied by asking her if we would be able to get into the house by 6pm like the note stated. No response. There was only 1 guy who came to clean at almost 5pm. I never got any notification from anyone after numerous emails to her, letting her know that we had no where to go and no one was contacting us to say the house was ready. We eventually went back to the house at 7pm and found no one there and it to be "clean" if you can consider it to be COVID clean after one guy cleaning an entire house for 2 hours. The lack of concern for our family that night astonishes me. After a few more emails explaining my disappointment with how we were treated, still no response from Kristina. We can understand some delays with the pandemic, but the lack of communication was unacceptable. read more

My family and I rented a week in Duck,NC from Stan White Realty. We arrived after 5 pm and got our rental bag with two keys from the outside drop box. Upon arriving at the rental at approximately 5:30, we found out that the keys did not fit this unit. I called the after hours assistance 3 times asking for help. It was after 7pm before I recieved a response that someone "was on their way". So we wait.... Then I recieved a message that they were sending someone that was closer....After a 7 hour drive to reach our unit, we were not very happy to sit and wait to get inside. I finally made phone contact with the after hours assistant who said that the correct keys were now placed in the drop box at the rental office. So, we then had to drive back to the rental office to get two keys on one ring, of which only one of them would allow us into the home. I've sent additional messages asking for another key, to allow our guest freedom to come and return. I was reassured that I would recieve the extra key by Tuesday. Our rental was a Sunday to Sunday. Today is Thursday, and no spare keys has been arranged. There has been no apology from the rental office and no follow up. Our rental is nice,(Sitting Duck) with the exception of ants and a cooking stove that has unlevel stove top burners. Overall, for what I paid for this one week rental, I would have expected better customer service and follow up. I will most likely use another realty company on my re-visit. read more

My family and I had a horrible experience with a property managed by Stan White Realty (SWR). Nobody goes on vacation to deal with renovations, unhealthy living conditions and relating stress. We paid hard earned money for my family to enjoy and relax. Despite some efforts for improvement by SWR we were still left living in a less than healthy environment (black mold) and spent days being inconvenienced by cleaning and repair services. Rented The Lion's Den, June 2, 2018. House had not been cleaned since April. Dead bugs in bedroom, toilets had mildew or mold on them, bathroom ceiling had mildew or mold on it. Dirty socks left in the bedroom, sock left in the laundry room, used paper towel left in a bedroom. All the patio chairs (both of them) were broken, nails sticking up on the deck. Pet stains on the carpet and the list goes on and on..... Five bedroom house had 3 spoons, coffee make broke. Outside shower broken. Contacted the company, was promised a call back the next day, never happened. Finally contacted them again, sent requested email with pictures. Promises to make it right have gone unfilled, attempts to contact them have been ignored. Never again!!!! read more

My worst OBX experience in 25 years! This was my first time renting from Stan White Realty and will be my last! We selected unit SN503 Actor's Equity (located 9612 Old Oregon Inlet Rd, South Nags Head) for our June 2020 vacation. I gave 1 star because this unit has a good location and floor plan for our family's needs but the good stops there. Stan White's website advertises this unit as FULLY remodeled & WELL maintained. At best, it's cosmetic in a few spots. The week started out with a kitchen sink plumbing leak which leaked through to bedroom ceiling below (which BTW has several prior leak stains, peeling paint, etc.), no TV service until maintenance was able to reach owner, and no working basketball goal as listed - the pole was there just no usable rim (my boys love basketball and this is one amenity we searched for...guess we should have hung our own peach basket??). From there, we found extremely dirty air vents, the Master BR shower had a major crack in floor which was unsafe to use and could not be fixed while we were in unit, all toilets were old and we had tanks overflow twice when floats stuck, disgusting shower liner (which we replaced ourselves), many rotten wood decks & loose boards (some rails missing nails), outside shower basically unusable with extremely low water pressure, extreme rusted knobs & much much more. Sound like Fully Remodeled and well-maintained?? All of this was brought to Stan White's attention immediately and is documented in writing and pictures. The water leak and most issues were discovered on check-in weekend - I tried multiple times that weekend to contact the office & maintenance via email and phone; however, no one returned my calls or emails until I reached back out early Monday. In the meantime, I had to spend my own vacation time and money trying to troubleshoot issues which maintenance did not get to until mid-day Monday (two days after check-in) - then we were required to leave our unit for several hours while they were there due to Covid 19. I was told several times (in writing) by Stan White's Broker-in-Charge that not only should their inspections have caught many of these issues but also that they were "proving the case with the home owner that there were quite a few issues and either it will be addressed by us, the owner or the both of us after we speak". Many of my attempts to contact Stan White for updates went ignored until almost 5 weeks after check-out when I just received a response that "The owner is not compensating...we will compensate you $100 for the issues that we missed in inspections. This file is now closed." Stan White knows I spent around $100 out of my own pocket just buying things to make the house safe & usable while we were waiting for maintenance to return our phone calls. This offer and the way it was written was a complete slap in the face! They do not care at all about the customer experience or truth in advertising - as of the date of this posting, the rental listing still reads "Fully remodeled & well maintained.......basketball goal, etc.". I would like to share the details of our experience with Stan White Realty in the hopes of preventing another family from being victimized by this miserable institution. I believe that the mark of a superior organization lies in how they treat their most dissatisfied customers. Top-notch companies go "above and beyond" to ensure customer satisfaction--Stan White went "below and behind", going out of their way to put my family through a terrible ordeal. We booked a rental a property (D's Retreat was the name) that looked, from it's online representation, to be a perfectly clean and comfortable home for our summer vacation in Nag's Head. We were in for a big surprise. We arrived at the property on July 25 and waited on site for the cleaning crews and inspector to clear the property. We did not enter until the inspector had arrived and performed her inspection. After exiting the property, she stated that the house was in an unacceptable condition and that, at minimum, another cleaning would be required. She also stated that this property was in the worst condition of any she had previously inspected for Stan White Realty. We then entered the property ourselves and found it to be filthy and in a general state of disrepair. My two year old son, who had a vocabulary of roughly 25 words at the time, exclaimed "ewwwwwww!" as soon as we walked through the door. Carpets were stained wall to wall with several large areas of extreme staining. Windows and doors were damaged and molding, and the floors, closets, and refrigerator were covered in filth and roaches. The wooden stairs and decks consisted of jagged and damaged boards loosely held together by rusting nails, some of which protruded significantly from the wood. Additionally, the place was inundated with a horridly unpleasant odor. The grounds were also not upkept, with grass up to the knees and shrubs and bushes wildly overgrown. We contacted the rental office with our concerns. They offered to send another cleaning crew, however we stated that no amount of cleaning could be performed in a timely manner to make the place suitable. They offered to have the carpets cleaned during our stay, which also was unacceptable to us, as we expected the property to be suitable prior to our arrival. We asked to either be moved to a different property, given temporary accommodations, or be fully refunded. They refused to consider any of these options. They stated that no compromise could be made and that our choices were to either stay in the property or forfeit the full amount paid. The condition of the property was so terrible that we left the office, full well knowing that we were most likely forfeiting $2300 of our hard-earned money. Luckily, we were able to find rooms at a nearby hotel, but we had to spend an additional $2500 for the week, bringing our lodging costs to nearly $5000--a sore blow to a middle-class working family. After the fact, we continued to pursue some means of retribution for our losses. We lodged a complaint with the Norfolk Better Business Bureau. Stan White took the opportunity to make disparaging and insulting statements about us, and made no acknowledgment with regards to the poor condition of the property. I sent several emails to the company requesting a refund, and even spoke several times to the CEO, Mr. John White. I found him to be an arrogant, egotistical, condescending, and unprofessional. At no point did he express any sympathy for my family's financial loss. Apparently, he feels morally justified with charging us $2300 for a property in which we never stayed. It seemed to me that it wasn't even about the money, but more about him being right and "winning". He never once, for even a second, considered giving us our money back because we were dissatisfied. He has even threatened to sue us, accusing us of libelous claims due to negative reviews, pictures, and comments that were very rightly posted on their website regarding the incident. I advise against dealing with this company on financial and ethical grounds. Stan White Realty are, in our opinion, a disreputable organization. Any institution that treats customers in such a dishonest and despicable manner doesn't deserve to be in business. Spare yourself the trouble and rent from some one else. read more

Steer Clear, the house we rented was run down, dirty, lots of broken thing, not well cared for, internet never worked, this is the danger of OBX now, there are so many places renting houses you need to determine the places that take care of the houses and the ones that just rent them all year and collect $ without ever checking up on them. We've stayed with Stan White several times in the past, and had no real problems. We kept coming back. But the true measure of a company's service is not when things go as expected, but when something goes wrong. When Stan White made a mistake, they stubbornly refused to correct it, and at their loss. I will now no longer be their customer and will warn others as well. I rented a house with a heated pool. The Stan White "FAQ" page says: "Pools that have the ability to be heated will specify this in the amenities, along with the fee that is charged to heat the pool." Well, most pools cost $200 - $350 to be heated for the week. I made a spreadsheet of all the houses I was considering and their amenities and prices. I found one house that listed a heated pool with no additional fee (A broker's place - ODV105). I specifically asked if it cost more to heat the pool and was told it did not, which matched the website listing. We got to town Friday late afternoon and tried the pool first thing Saturday morning. It was freezing! I called S.W. and was told it would cost $200 to heat the pool! I immediately went back to my lease and reviewed the house listing (ODV105) on my smart phone (due to lack of internet). It confirmed what I had been told: NO extra charge to heat the pool. I wrote into Stan White customer service and stated the following: 1) The website states that the home has a heated pool 2) The website does not state an additional fee for heating the pool (which, as stated in the FAQs, was supposed to be posted on the listing if there was a charge) 3) The woman at the Stan White office I had called several months before when I made my reservation confirmed there was no additional charge. 4) I reviewed my lease, and while there were options to pay more for optional features like linens, travel insurance, pet fee, etc. there was NO option offered for pool heat. It was never mentioned to me in any way. My e-mail got a brusque reply that stated they were sorry for any "misunderstanding" but they would only heat the pool if I paid an additional $200. I replied with PDF listings showing prices for pool heat at other Stan White beach houses and the FAQ from their website. I got no reply. Finally, on Wednesday, I wrote in to say that I had received no response and was still not satisfied. I got a reply that stated that the charge would be $200 and that it would take about 36 hours for the pool to heat up. I stated that 36 hours from then, I'd be less than 36 hours away from check out! Additionally, I should not have to pay extra for a promised amenity. It was bait and switch, false advertising. I asked what Stan White would do to make things right for me and future renters. They did the following: 1) They updated the website to show a $200 charge. The fact that they made the change shows they made a mistake (I have screenshots from before and after). This satisfies future renters who make their reservation AFTER the website changed. It does not help me. We wished we had rented other (better, cheaper) houses if we weren't going to have access to a heated pool. 2) They offered me free early check in on my NEXT visit. This angered me. First of all, it does nothing to satisfy a loyal customer who relied on the false advertising of Stan White. Secondly, the fact that they had the nerve to assume I'll continue coming back after being treated this way was galling. They have shown how they react if a customer has a complaint- they stand their ground and tell me that I must have "misunderstood". By the way, my complaint started on Sept. 4 and when I replied that I still was not satisfied on Sept. 7, Stan White just stopped responding. Terrible customer service from Catherine Dunlevy, who replied once and then left me hanging for a day and a half, and from Jaclyn Myers, who stopped responding on the 7th when I would not pay the $200 hidden fee. I am very disappointed with the treatment I received at Stan White. I feel I was not treated as a valuable customer despite dropping 4 figures with them once a year for 4 years (and previously, had plans to keep coming back each year). I work in customer service myself and have made errors before. I don't fault anyone for messing up or forgetting to post all the details. But when I do mess up, I make things right for the customer. Stan White made only the most minor offer to make things right for me- free early check in, NEXT YEAR, after I paid another $1200 or so to rent a house from them. As long as I paid my money and didn't make any complaints, Stan White was fine. But when a problem arose, even though it was demonstrably and clearly Stan White's mistake, they stubbornly refused to make things right for me, the paying customer. As a result, they've lost my business, my respect, and have earned this negative review. read more

We had a great experience with Stan White Realty. Everyone I spoke to was so friendly and professional, and they were able to answer all of my questions (and if they didn't, they would check for me and always called back straight away). The house was great and exactly what we expected. It was clean and taken care of, we also had a linen service, so all the beds were made, and they had left us extra linens and towels. The unit we rented was taken over from another real estate rental company before we rented it. It was clearly not inspected before it was offered for rental. First problem was when we tried to open the unit upon arrival. Nothing worked. We called the office and we were brought the "owner's keys". And they did work either! They finally had to call a locksmith. But the locksmith couldn't give us a key until the next day. So, someone had to stay in the unit until we could get a key the next day. Then - Dozens - yes that many - of galvanized nails littering most every balcony and the deck. While we turned over one baggie of nails to the management office, we retained a second bag of nails in the event that this issue escalated. We also have photographs of SIL's foot after she unwittingly stepped on one of those nails which pierced her shoe and her foot. Electrical issues, and quite honestly an unsettling feeling of possible fire when the breaker was found to have been tripped to all bathrooms. Then, when I plugged in my computer and was greeted with sparks flying out of the outlet. It was after that, when one of the maintenance techs came by to clean out the pipe of lint (another unsafe condition), he was asked to double check all smoke detectors to ensure proper working order. Also - WiFi was advertised, but there was none. They brought in a router a couple of days into our week, but you had to log in within 15 feet or it didn't work. The dryer was packed with lint and nothing would dry until we called for maintenance. read more

Terrible experience with Stan White Reality. We pre paid for a linen package, it was not there until late on day 2. So, we had to sleep without sheets. When we kept calling about the linens, they said they would refund our money due to the inconveinence. Weeks later, still no refund. I called and left a message. They then emailed and said they are not going to refund our money. Terrible business practice. Never again will I go througb Stan White Reality. There are a plethera of other renfal companies. read more

Have to say we had a very good experience with this company. We're from NYC, coming down for the second time in early July. Last year was our first visit to the OBX so we relied on the staff from Stan White to assist us in knowing "where to go" and "what to do". I'm sure if my daughter reads this she'll say "Dad do you need someone to tell you how to walk to the beach"... but while she and her girlfriend were "at the beach" my wife and myself spent time getting to know the area. It's a far cry from the everyday rat race of the city, fresh air, warm sun, very nice people. Southern Hospitality at it's best, and considering locals have to deal with tourists i was really astounded by how friendly the people are. OK, enough about how great the Outer banks are. I'd give Stan White an A+, we had a nice home with a beautiful ocean front view. read more

Our stay was by far the most horrific experience. From the client service, owner and actual unit. Our unit was not cleaned, even after not being able to enter the condo until 2.5 hours after our allotted check in time of 4pm. The condo had dirty bathrooms, food in fridge from prior renter, dirt and poop stains in toilets, dirty showers, mold and mildew, the bedspreads used by prior tenant with stains on beds, a busted pipe under kitchen sink with standing water. The busted pipe took them almost 48 hours to fix. Due to the standing water there was black mold, as this was clearly an issue unaddressed for a long period of time. All during a pandemic, cleaning standards should be top priority. To add we had no cable or wifi for first 2 days. In addition the master bath had a crack in the outside tub area causing it to leak to the unit below us. This caused us the loss of a bathroom half of the stay. The issue was addressed by Signature Touch Property Management, as Stan White was non-responsive. I can unfortunately keep going. I have had to call 50 plus times to get anyone one on the phone and had to go stand on the Nags Head location front porch during my vacation to get anyone to even take note of these issues, which did nothing! The property manager said she would call me back regarding compensation. Which did not happen. read more
