The appliance company that I purchased the refrigerator from was very clear that they did not do installations and that I would be contracting with an outside installer for that, that. My job was the removal of a failed over the range microwave and installation of a new GE Model. In summary, Joe was very experienced . There was uncertainty about the retrofit as the original had been installed directly to the dry wall with tile to the bottom, therefore not obvious that a replacement could be installed without some additional material to even the installation frame attachment. Joe was able to determine that my replacement would fit into the existing attachment frame from past experience. In summary, it was a straight forward good installation which was not obvious when I tried to evaluate dimensions myself. The problem with Stalie is their fees for the service. Because of my uncertainty I was willing to pay about $325 more than typical for this knowledge and installation, however still consider the cost for the assessment and the work too high. The service is good but you pay the price so be prepared if you use their services. High end jobs might be more appropriate. I would give them 5 stars except for the high fees. read more

I would give them negative if I had that option. We had engaged them to do our appliance installation - Sub Zero/Wolf/Cove. The reason why we engaged them is they are supposed to be "certified". They send us bills for installing the washer dryer that were not in the contract. And that too more than 300% above the normal charges from other installers. $125 for a hose which is less than $10 at Home Depot and many more...I paid them more than the normal rates. They made excuses to leave the site and sent us bill for that too. Within a month, we noticed that our Cove dishwasher moved back and the racks were sliding out. When asked they said they cannot come unless we pay as per their rates for the washer dryer. We noticed that they had not screwed the dishwasher to the cabinets. Their quality of work is sub par. Not sure how they are certified. They did not even register our products. Finally our dealer agreed to register them. Stay away from them. Their work is a piece of crap. We worked with several contractors over the course of our remodeling, and this company was an absolute nightmare. Don't expect Matt to be responsive, or respect your time. He came over after a long long time only to tell us that he doesn't have the right tool to install our hood, and he would come back in few weeks! and yet he asked for $2500 for hooking up a fridge and a dishwasher. This is the second time we have used Stalie Construction and it will not be the last! They installed a dishwasher the first time and now a refrigerator and running some plumbing for it. They also were able to put in a new faucet and garbage disposal. Matt confirmed the appointment a few days before and texted me the day of with a 1/2 window as to when his crew would show up. They (Joe, A.J. and Dan) were on time, friendly, thorough and communicated clearly with me. I was comfortable having them in our home and they were 100% professional, wore mask, were clean and cleaned up a T. They made us all feel safe - especially with Covid-19. I received Stalie's name from University Electric, in San Jose, and it was great match for us and they were able to come to our second home in Aptos where the work needed to be done. The reviews for Stalie Construction seem to be either very positive or very negative, and unfortunately my situation was very negative. The installers showed up late to deliver my new stacked microwave/range combo. The head installer was not friendly or polite. My junction box needed to be moved to plug the stove in, and they said that it would be a $500 to $1000 job to do that. We said that we were going to get a second quote and had it done by another electrician for $250. When they came back after the wiring was ready, they charged me an extra $175 to put in two simple wooden blocks to adjust the height of the stove, which took about ten minutes ... unbelievable. I wasn't there at the time, so my wife was bullied into paying it even though she knew it was unreasonable. During the whole process, I tried to call Matt a number of times, he would never answer his phone. Not once. He would just text back instead of talking. I also phoned him to inform him that his installer really isn't polite, which I think is feedback that he needs to know about, and also no return phone call on that. With this type of behavior, I would find someone else to give my money to that is more deserving. read more

James recently did some work for us on our new house. It was a complete overhaul of our kitchen. Top to bottom he took care of the demo and the remodel. My wife stays home and it's always a little iffy when someone will be around your wife and kids all day. James was amazing. He was friendly and personable. He was very timely and finished ahead of schedule. James replaced a window, replaced all cabinets, sink, added a vent hood, microwave, dishwasher, fridge cabinet and box, under cabinet lighting, tile work, back splash, and lighting. We had a new appliance installed with Stalie, and we weren't too happy with the service. First off, the staff wasn't friendly with us, and barely had a word to say. Didn't really explain too much; it seemed as though they were upset with having to do work that day. But as a service provider, your customer is king, and it is your job to try and win them over in hopes of getting future business. Not the case with Stalie. Now for the worst part: in moving the appliance, they did not do a good enough of a job protecting the floor from scratches. We have nice hardwood floors, original with the home, and they scratched up a storm moving the appliance! Definitely visible, and now we have to spend money to resurface it. Knowing this, they didn't even apologize; it was as if it never happened. We will not work with them again. read more

Not happy. University Electric chose them. I have always had wonderful luck with University Electric contractors which is why I have gone back to them over and over again. I have no idea what went wrong with Stalie. They were supposed to call the night before to let me know the time window. They didn't. So I called the next morning and he gave me the window. They didn't show. Or call. I called Stalie and he said he would send someone right over. Well, I don't think they were prepared to do the work. He measured the whole and said no way can we do it and that will be $125.00. I called out the cabinet guy and he fixed it in like 20 minutes. Let me just say everyone else that University Electric has sent out modifies cabinets, countertops, cuts tile, you name it. So now I am out 125.00 plus the 140.00 I paid the cabinet guy since he's the real deal and I like him (He said he'd do it for free). I asked Stalie to refund the money and ugh he said he'd meet me half way which I was like meh. And no you are not coming out again - I have to drive 2.5 hours to meet them and don't like unreliable contractors. At all. So yeah, I'm out 125.00 + 140.00 and still don't have my dishwasher installed! read more

I have used this contractor in the past and people who actually do the job are very good and skilled however client interface when you call this contractor is below ordinary. Few days ago I was trying to get hold of this contractor and after several attempts I did. I guess its the owner who picked up the phone. I gave him the description of the problem and he said he will charge me to come and take a look at the situation. He responded as if he was doing a favor. In the past also I have left messages and texts and the person never bothered to return the calls or texts. I had to follow up multiple times before I got the response. One of the best things Lowe's does is subcontract Stalie Construction for their install projects. We recently purchased a stovetop choosing to pay for it to be delivered and installed. Bud from Stalie showed up for the install and we quickly delivered Lowes had given him the wrong stovetop. He got on the phone immediately to solve the problems, and he did an impressive job. He ended up taking the wrong color stovetop back to exchange it and was back within about an hour. He was personable, friendly, neat and efficient. We couldn't be happier. Bud even bonded with our dog who isn't normally very social. It was a good experience, and I hope Lowes continues to subcontract Stalie. We would definitely have them do work for us again. read more

They installed a dishwasher for me. They charged me $275 in addition to the $129 that I paid Lowe's for installation. They said the dishwasher was not side by side with the sink, and the valve was old and need to be replaced etc. I do not know if they charge me too much or not. They spent 1.5 hours here. Even though 3 people came, only one did the installation. The owner talked on the phone most of the time and the other guy unloaded the dishwasher then left and came back later to pick up the other 2 people. read more

An excellent job by Stalie Construction! Joe came out to do an estimate that turned out to be exactly the work that needed to be done to install a cooktop and a single oven. Three countertop cuts needed to be made to accommodate the larger stovetop. Care was taken to make certain that the dust mostly went into the HEPA vacuum. Any remaining dust was vacuumed up. All three cuts were measured and cut perfectly in a location that demanded precision to not destroy the cabinets below the cooktop. No problems with the gas connection for the cooktop, they installed all new connectors. We wanted to continue to be able to use the drawer immediately under the cooktop but the cooktop went lower than the one it was replacing. Joe and his partner found and installed special brackets to hold down the cooktop that allow us to continue to use the drawer. The oven installation required a rebuild of the platform and widening the cabinet opening almost to the maximum. After removing the original oven, Joe first strengthened the original cabinetry by replacing the small plastic connectors keeping the cabinet together with metal brackets. He even added additional brackets for strength. The exterior of the new oven is shorter than the old oven's exterior (even though the height of the inside of the new oven is larger). That posed a problem because we needed to figure out what to do to cover the resulting hole beneath the oven. Joe's experience paid off when he said that we could use a trim piece he knew about. Joe worked with University Electric to solve the problem. Joe made all of the required cuts in a skilled manner, again, using the vacuum to minimize dust. Joe even came up with a clever solution for making a cut in an otherwise very tight location. The electrical connection's requirements had been noted when Joe did the estimate, so the oven just slid into its new space with no problems and the wires were connected to the junction box. To protect the floors, they laid out large rubber mats. No problems with floor scratches. After the install, Joe ran through use of the appliances and warnings about what to avoid doing when using the oven. This was much appreciated. He showed us how to take care of the appliances and their required maintenance. And, he even started the required burn out of the insulation stabilizer. Everyone was punctual and communication was easy. Stalie Construction and Joe did a great job installing two appliances when so much could have gone wrong. read more

We had our kitchen cabinets modified a bit to accommodate a new Wolf Convection Microwave oven and a new Miele wall oven. Today, Joe and Jack did the the cabinet modifications needed for the microwave oven and trim kit as well cabinet adjustments for the Miele oven. Additionally they installed plumbing, per Miele specs, for the oven's "Moisture Plus" feature. Joe explained everything he was doing, worked cleanly and efficiently. I would have had them also install the oven but Miele only offers their 2-year warranty if the oven is installed by Miele installers. We are very pleased with Matt's guys and would recommend them with no reservations. read more

Stalie was recommended to us by Pacific Sales for appliance installation. They not only charged us a few hundred dollars just to take things out of boxes and plug them in, but they charged us a $50 cancellation fee because they claimed our cabinet did not allow installation of our microwave and oven, which I later found out not to be true. Additionally they did not complete the hook ups for the dishwasher (and punted it to my GC who charged me a change order) or reinstall the brackets around my wine fridge for support (which also cost me more). All they wanted to do was plug in appliances for hundreds of dollars and move on without any effort. Horrible service. read more

I should have read these reviews before but unfortunately Stalie Construction was suggested by University Electric to install a new cooktop and hood in my kitchen. Never had such a bad experience. First of all as the other said they asked us 1000$ to install both the cooktop and the hood, the hood was damaged so we had to return it (fortunately given what happened later). So we decided to install just the cooktop for more than 500$, they had to cut a beautiful granite we have and they cut it wrong! the cooktop is visibly not centered. Then after just half an hour they went away and we started to smell gas. I called them again and they came the same evening to check, they found a loose valve, they forgot it, they said to me. Since we didn't trust them so much we shut off the main gas valve in the kitchen anyway for the night and left the window open (fortunately). The morning after around mid morning the gas smell was so strong that even my kids started to have headache. We stayed an hour in the backyard. We had to call the PG&E to shut off the house valve, so we even remained without warm water for an entire day (and we were lucky because PG&E came back in the evening to open it again (if only it was Sunday we had to wait one more day). In the meantime we had to call another contractor who did a great job very quickly. There was another valve left loose after the installation. On top of that they didn't put the same connection as it was before so the drawer didn't fit anymore. We had to fix that too and pay more dollars again. Result: I still didn't have any refund and I had to spend half an hour on the phone explaining why they didn't a good job, I mean it's so obvious even to the City!!! Didn't hear from them anymore after two weeks. I'm upset even with University Electric because they weren't on my side during this process and didn't help to have my money back for the terrible installation. We even risked our life!! Matt called and made the appointment for install, he reconfirmed the night before, and they were on time! Matt and his assistant did a terrific job installing the drop-in and figuring out how to close up a space in the back. They were careful when moving out the old and moving in the new range and cleaned up. I highly recommend Stalie Construction for home installs. It was a tricky job because the new oven is larger than the old one - which meant cutting the cabinet, moving the microwave up slightly, getting everything precisely positioned so it worked and looked good. Joe from Stalie Construction visited my home for a stove and downdraft exhaust replacement I had ordered through Lowe's. From the get go he was extremely rude, demeaning and tried his very best to bully me into buying my stove & exhaust from University Electric in Santa Clara instead of Lowe's. His behavior was shockingly bad and possibly stemmed from a very racist mindset. He forced the issue time and again during the entire visit. During his visit, he realized that I had no intention of going to University Electric to buy an expensive stove & exhaust so he never turned in his measurements/ info from his visit to Lowe's either. I was caught in a loop with Lowe's for a while. I ultimately ended up buying my stove and exhaust from Amazon and having it installed painlessly by an independent installer for a cheaper price and a much higher quality install. I don't know if there are others at Stalie like this, but I would be careful approaching them. And if you get Joe from Stalie (Tall thin Caucasian Male) you might want to re-consider moving forward. read more

They called back right away, picked up the appliance, came out, cut out part of the cabinet, and installed it all very efficiently and for less money than they estimated.
