I love staks. It's one of my go-to places to bring my out-of-town friends or family for breakfast. This was my first time at the East Memphis location. Parking was easy, Staks is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. So you should be good to go if you come for breakfast. When you arrive, you walk up to the counter to order. Once you order you are placed at a table to wait for your food. We ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, smores pancakes, and the breakfast eggrolls. Everything was delicious! I got to try everything and nothing disappointed. The eggrolls were stuffed, flavorful, and had a crispy outside shell. The smores pancakes were very chocolatey and fluffy. The Lemon ricotta pancakes were good, I do wish you could have tasted more lemon though. The blueberry sauce was pretty powerful. But still a good dish. The service was pretty slow though. It looked like they had a good size team working, but we waited over an hour after ordering when it didn't even seem that busy. So that was a bit frustrating when we had lots to do. This was my 3rd visit. 1st visit was when they 1st opened and vowed to never return. Just a basic pancake shop where you will or will not get a seat. I've had better. 2nd visit was Fall 2022, tried the bacon sampler, breakfast egg rolls and buttermilk pancakes. While the food seemed to be a bit better than the 1st time, service was SLOW AND the food came out cold after ~40 minutes. No excuse, just laid it down and walked off. 3rd visit was $75 worth of nothing. Wait time wasn't long (10-15 minutes for food); almost immediate for seating but again food came out cold, bathrooms were disgusting and restaurant floors. How is the restaurant nasty at 9:30a? Did anyone clean before lock-up the night before. Hash browns were burnt, eggs look like they came out of a box, my breakfast egg rolls were lukewarm. Salsa wasn't fresh look Store bought, I could do on. When a kid says "Golden Coral is better for breakfast", Houston we have a problem! They say, 3rd times a charm. In this case, I gave this restaurant 3 times to get it together. NEVA again will I spend a single cent or recommend this place to anyone. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! The food was delicious. I had a pancake-beignets that with drizzled with cream cheese and powdered sugar. They had a nice outer crunch and a soft pillowy inside. They melted in my mouth! I also had pancake skewers. The reality of their staffing issues plus the inaccurate wait times is a real problem. I went on a Saturday morning around 10 a.m. which I expected to be quite busy. However, what is said to be a 15 minute wait, turned out to be a 30+ minute wait just for the table. Ok, also not a huge deal on a Saturday. My real problem with this situation is that you get a table, then have to go up to a counter, wait in line, pay for your food, and then wait 1.5 hour for the food to arrive at your table. It actually took over an hour for 2 orders of pancakes. Here is my caveat: they were some amazing pancakes. The portion is size was a bit smaller than I would've expected for the price and how long it took for it to arrive at my table. Also, the coffee was spectacular. I have mixed feelings about this place. Overall, I would definitely eat here again, but maybe go SUPER early or on a weekday. read more

The staff LOVES interacting with their customers - they make sure you are comfortable (with the whole pandemic going on), as well as making sure you get your food HOT. I called before and politely asked if there would be a wait. The woman on the phone simply replied with "not yet" in an ominous voice repeatedly. We shortly arrived and entered the establishment. Not to mention the fact that they are vague in their seating situation and publicly humiliated us when we sat down at an empty table when we have done the same countless times before. Some friends and I went about an hour before closing, we had 4 people and the server added automatic gratuity, with bad service and complained when we walked in and made rude remarks when we didn't tip on top of the gratuity for the bad service. The chicken in the chicken and pancakes dish was very well made, but the pancakes were dry and the amount of syrup given initially is simply not enough. Had to wait awkwardly for several minutes while someone cleaned it while I was in the way of people trying to walk by. Couldn't find what I wanted on the very user-unfriendly ordering QR app. Asked a server who said she couldn't help me because she couldn't "see." But she was rather aggressive in stating that what I wanted was on the app even if I couldn't find it. The French toast was a joke -- thick Texas toast with too much cinnamon and barely any egg. Paid $1.50 to add strawberries and got the equivalent of two sliced strawberries and No maple syrup. I had to ask for the maple syrup. They charge $13 for the French toast which apparently comes with nothing -- they charge extra for everything. $5 for three pieces of bacon. I had ordered this back in the winter and it was great, but today it was a joke. I spent way too much for bread. This place felt like torture and couldn't wait to leave. I ordered the shrimp béchamel omelette with a side of Gouda grits and cinnamon roll pancakes. Chunks of shrimp, Creamy sauce, thick stone ground grits, and the pancakes could literally melt in your mouth. When I tell you these flavors are intense... each bite takes over all of your senses. First visit today: arrived at 10:50 on a Saturday and walked right to a table. At the end of my meal, seating was scarce. The hostess greeted me and asked if it was my first time. She gave me a tutorial on grabbing the table and coming to the register to order. I had read a review that the tacos were good, and you can get a side of a pancake to go with so I opted for those to give a broad representation. The tacos (on corn) were solid. What kept them from being 5 star, is that the taco shells were cooked to a crisp rather than served warmed street taco style. For me, that covered the corn flavor and while they were still good, made them less than they could be. As to the meats, I tried 1 of each. The weak link here was the chicken. It wasn't seasoned on its own, just chunk breast meat. Chorizo was solid, but the star today was the sausage-just the right blend of grease and salt to stand out against the salsa. Again, get the tacos. But skip the chicken (and perhaps the corn tortilla) for an elevated experience. The pancake I tried was the seasonal cinnamon apple. This was terrific and I'd give it 4.5 stars. Great blend of cinnamon and the bourbon maple was outstanding. The weak spot here was the apple topping. Personally I'd prefer them cooked softer. All in all I'd eat them again. Finally, the coffee. Solid coffee from a local roaster, but nothing spectacular and there are more complex dark roasts to be had. For the restaurant itself it's casual with bright blue/green color and fun. I didn't find it too loud, but most people were eating and not too chatty. In summary, I'd recommend eating here. It was very good. Four stars for me instead of Five just for personal preference on the taco shell, chicken, apples and coffee roast. You might light all four. read more

The food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Philly cheese steak with egg. It is huge but the meat was well flavored. We spilt the cinnamon roll pancake which was sweet enough without syrup. The regular eggs any style was great with a nice fluffy biscuit. Let me tell you those sweet potato fries were unbelievable!! They were one of my favorites with honey drizzled on top. Wasn't able to get on waitlist until 10 min prior to getting there, had made arrangements for a table for 10. They only have one table that seats 10 people and there is no waiting area so you have to wait outside in the heat or in your car. Was told it would be about 30 min wait, waited for 35 and still no table and was told the table of 10 had just got their food. When we asked if we could just sit out on the patio at the tables out there, they said they didn't have enough chairs for those tables. Take a menu, place your order at the counter, and take your number to an open table. It's a fast casual breakfast and lunch joint. Lovely decor. We shared the breakfast taco trio with chorizo and big latte. The taco shells are fried in house which were okay; the consistency of the shell did not hold up well with the filling causing it the break apart completely, but the flavor of the tacos were tasty. Came here on a Saturday around 11am for 2 people and we waited around 35 minutes. There's some cute shops around the area so it's fun to look inside them while you wait for a text that your table is available. The style of the restaurant is non-traditional - you order at the front and then pay there too. Then you sit at your table & your food will be brought to you. My boyfriend and I both got the breakfast quesadilla and it was delicious! I could see myself getting it again next time I come here. We also shared a short stack (4 pancakes) of blueberry pancakes. Pancakes were very fluffy and the blueberries made it not be so plain and bland. It's a fairly small restaurant but the interior of this place is sooooo cute with its turquoise blue booths that are totally insta worthy. Besides the wait, I'd totally come back again. My friend ordered a vanilla honey latte & I ordered the sea turtle latte minus the sea salt. We both enjoyed our hot lattes (iced latte is also an option). It wasn't long before we received our food. My friend loved her strawberry shortcake pancakes and bacon. My lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious! But my side order, the Gouda grits, that's another story. I took one bite of the grits and I immediately put the spoon down. The grits were extremely salty and inedible. I found myself wishing I'd saved that three dollars! The wait was less than 10mins and if it were longer you can go to Google to join the waitlist. I'm so glad that I decided to try it out because the food was DELICIOUS! I ordered the cinnamon swirl pancakes and took several bites of heaven on earth! I decided to try the sriracha jerk bacon and it was really great as well! My daughter andI went on a Saturday morning. We ordered 2 of the 2 egg meals and a side of grits. The grits were awful and I told the manager on duty. She quickly pointed out the printed sign I've attached to this review. My interpretation of that sign and statement is, we don't care about what you feel about our food or service as long as we ALREADY have your money! I would say BUYER BE WARE. It's not made known when you are ordering and I feel as if it's subjective to how the person you're speaking with feels about you. My previous experience was good and regretfully this manager has ruined that experience. Some of the other customers were also displeased with her. Why lose customers over a bowl of grits? Re make them or replace them. When is it appropriate to say,this is good because I said so? NEVER !
