This morning I got up and when I turned on the shower I noticed the handle was a little harder to turn. I tried turning it off and it was stuck. The water was running and I had no way to turn it off. A little cursing happened and I went to the basement to turn off the water to the house. After a little bit of a search on 'ye ol' internet I found that our cartridge in our faucet handle went bad. It looked easy enough to do myself so I looked up some videos and found the instructions and got to work. The only hiccup? I needed a new cartridge to replace the broken one. I called Stadium Hardware and spoke to the very friendly Allison who patched me over to plumbing to make sure they had what I needed in stock. Paul helped me out and made sure he had the right item set aside for me. Back to Allison who ran my payment over the phone and I was in my car to pick up the item in minutes. I pulled up to the back and they loaded it in my trunk. Bing bang boom! I was off. And after a bit more cursing, a bit of sweating, and a few false starts our water was back on AND off. FYI -- The store is open to in store shoppers and masks are required. I'm very hardcore about my social distancing due to some vulnerable people in my family so I was really happy to have the curbside pick up option available. Thanks for your help, Stadium! read more

I have used this store for 25 years. Most knowledgeable and helpful hardware store I have used. This time i came to replace a broken solenoid and they helped blow out and fix that part resulting in $5 fix rather than $50 replacement. Other times, they have directed me toward the correct repair rather than the less effective fix that I had planned. The slightly higher prices compared to Box stores are compensated x 5 by time, effort, and frustration saved. If anything, they are overstaffed. That means it's easy to get help (consulting, really) when in the store, and to top it off the staff are really knowledgeable about, it seems, everything I want to do or make. A hundred times better than the big box hardware/building stores. The True Value website, however, is second-rate --- terrible pictures and mechanics, not much description. What an absolute treasure. Family owned with amazing stock and staff. The staff is incredibly helpful and seems to know the store like the back of their hand. It's so much more satisfying shopping here than at a big box store. Stadium Hardware is excellent, always. Today, I walked in with an Igloo cooler for which the drain stopper had broken off. I expect to buy a hose clamp, chain, and stopper to make a replacement. One of Stadium Hardware wonderful folks said, "we have a replacement part," and we went to another part of the store to get it. He asked if I could remove the existing drain fitting by hand. I couldn't, so he took me to the shop, got some pliers and removed the existing drain and installed the new one. I paid for the part. This is what superior customer service is about. read more

I just moved to town and have had multiple projects that have come up: leaky tub faucet, stripped furniture screw, etc. Each time I step foot in Stadium Hardware, I'm greeted and then asked if I need help with anything. Each time, I've explained the issue and they immediately find the part I need ("Oh, sounds like you need this valve washer" or "Hmm... looks like a #6 wood screw."). I lived in A2 more than 30yrs. When I bought a house I started going to hardware stores. It seems like there's always something to fix or repair around the house. I eventually found "Stadium Hardware" and used it ever since. It is a great store, packed & organized. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They'll let you know if they have it and let you know if they don't. Also staff suggest other store(s) that might carry it. Staff are knowledgeable with items sold. They've taught me some helpful tips fixing things around the house. Like the sink faucet. Like the leaky toilet. Sure, I can save a few cents by going to the big box hardware stores but for service and know-how, I come to (and spend my hard-earned money at) Stadium Hardware on Stadium Blvd in Ann Arbor. They are great for specialty fittings, tools, paints, special bulbs, toilet tank parts, misc. plumbing supplies, etc. They stock quality stuff, not the cheap stuff that will break in a week. The prices here are reasonable considering the quality and the staff here is a highlight. Friendly, they listen very carefully and ask you insightful questions, and very helpful. Frankly I come here for the service which since retiring here in later 2011, has always been first-rate. One thing that I noticed (and it's pretty significant) is that while the staff here are extremely knowledgeable, they are focused on helping you solve your problem rather than pushing what they think is the solution and how to do it. Believe me, there's a huge difference between helpful (here) and micromanagement like "telling you how to wipe in the up direction" (some "know-it-all" in a big box store who used to hang drywall before the Great Recession). Parking is in the rear (just don't hit a diner coming in/out of next door Bell's Diner when you bomb in or out of the lot). Do not be fooled by the rather modest footprint of the building: they manage to stock everything in 1/4 of the space of a big box store. Good luck! I went into Stadium Hardware with a broken "shelf" from my Epson printer. The manufacturer did not offer a replacement part, and a new machine would cost me at least $300. Brian fixed the problem with a screw that cost me only 53 cents. He wouldn't take anything for his time. I told him that if we ever have a base on the moon or on Mars we should also have a store like this there. I would give this store 10 stars! read more

Stadium hardware has been our choice for the best service for three decades! Today we are here getting a new piece of glass cut for a window. They have every possible sort of nail or screw you could need and you don't have to do the looking by yourself. The people that work here are very knowledgeable and will help you find what you're looking for. In the back you'll find potting soil, mulch, sand and all the outdoors kinds of stuff. Park in the back and feel like a real local. There's a huge bulletin board right in the door in the back with every possible type of fix-it person business cards. They also cut keys and will help you figure out what the heck that thing is that fell off of that other thing. they are pretty much experts at all these old houses that we live in in Ann Arbor. read more

Stadium Hardware has a lot of important and useful specialty items that simply aren't in the big box stores. If you need a particular style of external vent for your clothes dryer, a certain size of nut or bolt to replace one that has gone missing, or if you aren't sure exactly WHAT you need to do the job, they'll be able to help you find it. I have a wooden drafting table from Workbench in Ann Arbor. This piece of furniture can be disassembled like Ikea furniture. During our last move, one of the hardware fittings got lost. You know those goofy, odd-shaped pieces of metal. They are what hold the furniture together. I found a similar-enough piece at Stadium Hardware. The right size for the bolt, but too long. The man who helped me find the piece took it over to a vise. He sawed off part of the length. It would now work in my drafting table. Fabulous service. No extra charge for the customization! I often call first, because I'm driving over from Saline. They're easy to reach on the telephone (you won't have to wade through a voice mail directory.) The staff is friendly and knows where to find everyting in their extensive inventory. read more

For my money, time, and just the "hardware experience," hands-down the best hardware store in the area. I've relied on Stadium for 40 years running. Expert staff in every conventional hardware area I've ever needed. (Don't expect knicknacks, home decor, toys, pottery or live plants.) Prompt, detailed, focused answers -- or they hand you to a colleague who's a better fit. Veteran owners work the floor, creating real customer-focused culture. Yes, I occasionally shop other hardware stores or even big box (e.g., lumber), but I've gotten so much patient advice and mentoring from these folks that I'm still getting a huge bargain, even if some tools, supplies, or softener salt MIGHT cost slightly less elsewhere. Where else do I know 10+ staff by name? Their small parts inventory is absolutely ridiculous, For a specific product need through some weird DIY idea I've got, they don't quit until you're helped. The people who work here are incredibly nice. They will go out of their way to help you, even if what you are going to buy is less than $1. Sometimes I feel like I should be paying them for their time. This is the only hardware store I go to, and it's the type of local business that makes you feel warm and fuzzy about living in Ann Arbor. This is the best hardware store I have ever been to. There are always people around to help you find the product that you need or give suggestions on the way that you could complete the project for less money and an easier method. No one is bossy, everyone is super friendly, and there is always someone available to help you find the products that you need. As a woman I generally dont like going into hardware stores because I don't find people helpful when I don't know the best thing to do for a project. That is never the case here. I downloaded Yelp just to give this store a 5star review. I have been in around 15 times over the years and each time I go in with any problem their employees are able to not only appropriately direct me to the item I need to and tell me exactly how to use it to fix my problem. On multiple occasion I have gone in with a broken gadget or tool (not purchased from them) and they fix it on the spot for free after using parts from their shop. As a girl with DIY aspirations, I have mixed feelings about most hardware stores. On the one hand, I have no problem playing the "I'm a girl!" card to get help, as I'm generally clueless. On the other hand, playing that card always makes me feel like I'm betraying my gender. And when I go to the big box stores, I always end up playing that card. That's what's great about Stadium Hardware, see? When I do know what I'm doing, I can stride purposefully in the direction of garden implements and get the things I need. When I don't know exactly what I need - or have been sent by my husband to pick up five widgets that exactly match the widget he's sent with me - a Stadium employee is always readily on hand and happy to help me sort through the myriad bins to find just the right thing. And they always seem to have just the right thing - whether it's tomato cages or dual window fans or suspenders with rulers on them or any number of other, more obscure hardware-y things. Although Ann Arbor has witnessed the decay of many independent businesses over the past decade, Stadium Hardware has stood its ground with grit and soul. Thank God, man! In all my years, I've failed to find a better hardware store. The employees know their stuff inside out, the selection with regards to unorthodox materials and common ones is thorough, and there's a sense of spirit and life that fills the place with genuine benevolence. Maybe my admiration for Stadium Hardware is amplified by my hatred of the alternatives, but the employees here--and the products, which are more exhaustive and relevant to repairs than the Tiki Torches sold at Ace--make it unquestionably great. A lot of time I need weird nuts and bolts to fix things in our old house, and these people always have them. I mean, sometimes people just don't have weird nuts. Hopefully people vote with their cash and keep this place in business for all eternity. It's one of the only independent stores left in A2 that successfully combines an unpretentious demeanor with genuine wisdom and resource. Still, I will hesitantly admit that customers looking for beer koozies or oven mitts with designs of flames on them might be disappointed here. read more

I hesitated to review Stadium since there are a number of glowing reviews already -- and I'm of the same mind: inventory is great and staff is awesome. Plus, this will probably be somewhat tangential. HowEVER, I feel compelled to give them an additional shout-out after yesterday. Background: I'm a homeowner, but not from a fix-it background. So, half the time, something breaks, which I manage to describe to them in some fashion. I usually don't know exactly what I need or how to ask for it, and who knows whether I can follow-through successfully once they give me whatever it is I may need. And yet, they always help me. Cheerfully and not condescendingly. The other half of my visits consist of wander-throughs for craft projects, where I'll know it when I see it. They still help me. So yesterday was typical: I was gathering craft-related items and asked random questions of maybe 5 guys. I leave happy. When I go out to my car, it won't start. Won't even turn over. I try repeatedly, with minor unsuccessful variations. Nothing. I envision the afternoon lost to towing plus mechanic bills. But no! B/c there are Stadium Hardware guys. The first comes out to look, fiddles, but is mystified. "I'll send out x, he's pretty good with cars." X fiddles. Is perplexed. Fiddles more. I look up Brewer's number. "I'm going to try something else." He takes out a cigarette, walks off. Comes back. Fiddles. And it starts perfectly. He nods, grins. Beat that, big box store. read more

I recently moved to Ann Arbor, and am so very glad I soon discovered Stadium Hardware. This store is a great example of what you want a local store to be - well run, well stocked, with helpful employees and fair prices. I am kind of a tinkery guy who routinely needs random bits and pieces to complete my project, or just the right tool for the job, and shooting over to Stadium Hardware is always the fastest way to solve the problem. The best thing about Stadium Hardware is that there are always a bunch of staff members around to ring you up or answer a question, so you aren't wandering around hunting for things like you always do at Home Depot or Lowe's. You really feel like part of the community when you shop there, and that's a valuable experience for me. They are the kind of place that, if you were returning a nut that was the wrong size, would just tell you to go swap it out and tell them the price difference. I'll add another 5-star review to this business! My father-in-law referred me to this place when he took in an extremely old/rare fuse and found out it was no good. They tested it there and had a replacement. Saved us some money with an easy do-it-yourself fix on a well. When I went in, the place was busy on a Monday afternoon but there was plenty of workers helping out. I brought in a cracked air condensate pump. A gentleman gave me options to fix it and I opted for plastic weld. It worked like a charm. In addition, I needed some tape for a drafty window I'm putting off replacing. I was gonna go with duct tape but he recommended a clear weather-seal tape. Worked great too. read more

Stadium Hardware is exactly what I picture a local hardware store to be. Every time I go here I get the friendliest of service. And, I've come in for the rmost random of things, and someone on staff always seems to know what I am talking about (and subsuquently need) -- and chances are, they have it. And not to mention, I've only been in here a handful of times, but they seem to remember me. How nice. I've dealt with Brent and Aaron -- what great guys. Always take the time to explain to you the difference in product and what might be best for you. And I always love giving my business to folks who donate to local non-profits -- and Stadium Hardware has always been generous in that department. My advice -- come here before you head to one of the bigger chains. It is quite a large store and has a big inventory, so I wouldn't be surprised if you can find most, if not all, of what you need here. read more

I dig this place. As other reviewers have noted, the staff is very knowledgeable and nice. Whatever I need, they have it or can get it quickly. (And I always seem to need the most random bits and bobs...last week it was a teeny tiny fuse for a stereo amp, this week it was c-clamps of an odd dimension.) Prices are great, too! My dad has been bringing me here since I was little and now I'm bringing my wee ones here. This place has not yet let me down. They have everything that I need them to have while having a great attitude. There is always at least a couple people at the counter, ready to greet you and see if you need help. Instead of just talking you through your needs and pointing fingers in the general direction, they offer to come with you, help you measure, and make helpful suggestions as you go. I am always very impressed when I leave. I always feel more confident about the project I am working on and my mood is normally taken up a notch. Everyone loves this place! read more

Great store with truly knowledgeable, friendly staff. I'm a 40-something mom who often shops there with my 8-year-old son for bits and pieces for household and science projects. The employees at Stadium are earnestly helpful to both me and my son. They're always well-stocked, too -- we've never walked away needing to visit another store for a part or bit that Stadium didn't have. Stadium Hardware is the best hardware store in AA, hands down.
