I've gone to Stadium Hardware twice now and have had the best experience both times. In both situations, I have been in a really foul mood beforehand and was driven there out of necessity: once to get a snow shovel during the snow apocalypse this past winter and another time to get a key copied for our new apartment that we moved into. I needed both items desperately and immediately. I am grateful for Stadium Hardware because I had to travel to at least 3 stores to search for the snow shovel. For the key, I went to Sears but apparently they don't copy them anymore. Stadium Hardware to the rescue both times!!! The service has been outstanding every time I go in. When I got my key copied, the door was held open for me as I walked in and left the store! What the what?! Who does that anymore? It's incredible. Outstanding, knowledgeable and helpful staff. I brought in a plumbing fixture that needed a part removed and they did it and outfitted the fixture with the new parts. I also bought my Dewalt drill there and they replaced the brushes for me. Very, very knowledgeable staff who can recommend also sorts of "fixes" to almost everything. Prices are competitive too. This is the BEST place to go in Ann Arbor for any sort of home or gardening project. These guys are so honest, that if they are not the best game in town, they will straight up tell you where you should go. Though, it rarely happens that they are not the best game in town. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable and they have some real great tips. I like to bring friends from out of town here because it has the feel of a small town lumber yard hardware store. I've seen them work with contractors but then almost everyone can also bring it down to my level - I bring in pictures, can describe the problem, and can say what I think I need. I'm a supporter of 'Buy Local' and whenever I can, I'll stop by... they staff are friendly and very helpful... they go out of their way to help you find even the smallest items... it seems like they are in two buildings, because they expanded into adjacent building... and from what I've read, they are going through another expansion... On the big side for a neighborhood hardware store. And they have a large selection. The store even has ladders and wheelbarrows for sale out front. A lot of tools for sale inside, as well. And everything a hardware store should have, down to light bulbs and fender washers. I prefer this store over Ace Barnes when I'm on the West side of town, because the staff is more knowledgeable and is helpful when you have questions. read more

This is a great local hardware store. The staff are welcoming and friendly, no matter what your level of expertise (translation: they don't mind answering dumb questions, and don't make you feel dumb for asking them). I live just up the street, so many are the times I go in for a couple of screws or a piece of glass or some other random thing. It can be tough to find exactly what you need on your own, but the gang is always helpful and will take you right to it. One of my favorite things is that even if you come in thinking you want to do a project one way, they'll suggest possible alternatives - maybe something you didn't think of before. I like this personalized service. Also, they are dog-friendly and will give your pooch a treat if you bring them in. This store is a real asset to the neighborhood! read more

This is my go-to hardware store in the neighborhood. So I knew just where to go when I didn't have the right screw driver to take my temp tag off. To my surprise, the guy at the counter took one look at me and sent our a nice young man to help me. He said- "go out there are help her. It's too cold for her to be outside messing with that!" After removing the old screws, he realized they had put the wrong ones on my car. He ran inside and got new ones that fit and wouldn't rust. He told me these screws are on the house! You can buy $30 worth of material and get $100 worth of advice. I'm not the handiest guy in everything, so that counts with me. This also has to be about the only place where I was about to buy something and a worker asked me what I was going to use it for, heard my answer, and suggested that I buy something cheaper that would get the job I needed done done. read more

Yesterday called Skip and placed an order for a furnace filter and some fertilizer. I picked it up today in the parking lot. I didn't even need to get out of the car, I just opened my trunk and they dropped it in along with my charge receipt. It was super efficient! I've had only ever had positive experiences here. They know their stuff.. On everything. Reminds you of the value of shopping small and local. And the prices compete with anything you'd find at the big box stores in my opinion. I love this store! Where to begin? Suffice to say, the last time I was here I overheard the following conversations in the space of about 5 minutes: CONTRACTOR DUDE: "Can you put it on my tab?" CLERK: "Sure, no problem, and that account is . . .?" CONTRACTOR DUDE: "Zingerman's" [Talk about catering to the townies!] MATURE LADY (think of your Grandma): "I need a little rubber bumper to put on the end of the spring that keeps the door from scuffing my wall." CLERK: "Yes, ma'am, they're right over here in these little drawers. (There's a monster wall of little drawers and the clerk dutifully extracts one tiny rubber bumper thingy.) That'll be 19 cents." [I've overheard the above story in various incarnations on just about every visit.] ME: "Should I buy the giant bag of rock salt to use on my sidewalk? I see that this little jug of chemical de-icer costs just about as much. Is it really that good?" CLERK: "Buy the industrial size of rock salt. We keep the sacks stacked by the back door. This is the kind of place that usually only exists in Norman Rockwell paintings. It's a small neighborhood hardware store, but somehow, they pack EVERYTHING in there. I don't think I've ever gone there looking for something and they didn't have it. It's also very easy to find somebody to help you, but they don't bother you (like Home-Depot punks) either. The prices are also completely competative with the big stores. I don't know how they do it. read more

This place is excellent! The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable, the prices are reasonable and the selection is great. I love shopping here and always get great advice when I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I also love that the store allows you to purchase exactly what you need. If you need 3 screws and 2 bolts, you can buy just that. Places like Home Depot and Lowes only sell those items in packages, and usually not in batches that make sense (like the way hot dogs and hot dog buns are sold). Great hardware store, and what makes it great are the people. Whenever I have weird projects and need some Jerry-rigging advice these guys are willing to listen and help (but they can't always). They've cut cable and plexiglass and all kinds of special treatment things and didn't charge for it. Some of the merchandise is less than top shelf, but typically there is something there that will do the job I need. It's not the best organized place because they've got so much stuff crammed into such a small space, but at least I don't need Heelys to get across the store like the big box hardware stores. The place isn't perfect, and I've left without being able to get the thing I needed on numerous occasions, but as far as actual hardware stores go this place is pretty awesome. read more

Everytime I go in, they explain how to complete a certain project, they help me pick up the right materials (even if it's a $.10 bolt....), and today they even showed me how to do something in their shop. This is an old-school hardware store, where the staff knows exactly what it is you're trying to do and can show you what you need and how to do it. I am not a particularly handy person, but the guys at Stadium have pointed the way on more household projects than I can count. They make me look like I know what I'm doing, which takes some doing. The staff here are perfectly happy to give someone $20 worth of help to sell a 3¢ screw. Excellent selection, and the staff are great a helping people who don't have any idea what they want--I've listened to them work through how to help someone time and again, with patience and good humor. If I need something and they carry it I buy from them. The really funny thing is that they do not charge more than the big box stores, and you often end up paying less because they will sell you (and help you find) the exact part you need instead of selling you a prepack or kit that contains extra pieces. I'm reasonably handy, and my son is amazing, but we still benefit from their help. We often look for unusual items; if they don't have them they are good at giving us leads on where to look next. Ever been at a bog box store and asked for something to have the person you asked say, "We don't have it in stock but I can pick it up for you on my way to work tomorrow morning?" Neither have I, but this has happened at Stadium more than once. Exemplary store because of the exemplary people. read more

I miss this place so much. For many years I ran a repair business in Ann Arbor. This was my go-to hardware store. They always seemed to have exactly what I needed. They have plenty of helpers if you can't find what you want. And, their prices are good and checkout fast. I live across town now and so I don't get there as often as I would like. But, when I don't want to spend half the day driving around to other hardware stores I just make the trip to Stadium Hardware and pick up what I need. If you want to learn how to run a business that will keep your customers coming back again and again - even just to visit and say hi, just bring a chair, set it down inside the store, sit back and watch for a whole day. (ok, they might not endorse my suggestion.... but then again.... they just might) read more

I've written positive reviews for Stadium before, but a recent visit simply re-enforces what an amazing store they are. I was trying to fix a built-in humidifier, and had isolated the problem to a broken solenoid valve controlling the water line. After identifying the part and manufacturer I (why I'll never know) called both Home Depot and Lowes to see if they had the part in stock. After being passed back and forth multiple times (including wait times of close to half an hour at Home Depot) of course neither had the part, although they could both order it with a week delivery time and at a ridiculous price of almost twice what it was selling for on Amazon (about $80 as opposed to $40 for replacing the entire valve.) I then called Stadium (which should have been my first call, but I'm a slow learner). After explaining the problem and the symptoms, they suggested that it probably wasn't a bad valve but simply a clogged internal filter and I should bring it in for them to look at it. Which I did, and sure enough they were right (I didn't even know there was an internal filter as it's not visible - you had to know it was there), but even more amazingly they had replacement filters in stock, a $5 part. So instead of spending $80 and waiting a week, I had a fixed part in 30 minutes and at a total cost of $5. So the moral of this story is simply forget about the big box stores and go to Stadium Hardware as your first thought and action. read more

This is the place to go if you need expert advice on your project. Several times I have went into the store with a method in mind to go about fixing something, and the staff was able to come up with a cheaper and easier way to do it. Great spot for plumbing supplies, nuts and bolts, window glass, caulking and pretty much any small tools you might need. The epitome of a "real" hardware store. They not only stock just about everything (and know where it is), and don't just offer good advice -- on more than one occasion I've brought something with a stuck screw or whatever that I'm trying to fix, and they'll just grab it, take it in the back room and fix it, free of charge. The guys can actually be a little gruff sometimes, but consider it part of the ambience, and support a great local resource. read more
