To make matters worse, they didn't bring enough cement for the job and started using my own bricks to fill the space without asking or discussing it with me. This showed a lack of preparation and professionalism. Based on my experience, I would not trust what he says. He will leave you high and dry with unfinished work and zero communication. I now have to hire someone else to fix and complete the job.

His attention to detail in recommending ideal drain setups in the sections where water had pooled in the past are exactly why we went Joel - we want to do things right the first time. After chatting with Joel, we installed the recommended drains, preventing a potentially expensive fix down the road. For years, our outside drains were clogged, and I found myself setting up pumps during the storms to get the pools of water away from our home. Every year, I would tell myself that I would get the drains cleared. Before the rains came this past winter, I hired a company to hydro jet the pipes. They tried to clear the drains, but because they were so clogged, their equipment failed. Again, I was setting up the pumps during the rain storm. So, I researched and found Joel and Sons. I met Joel and he examined our front/back yards. He gave an excellent and fair estimate that would fix the drainage problems. Throughought the entire project, Joel sent videos of the work being performed. He and the crew went above and beyond to make sure we wouldn't have any future issues. I asked for a quote -- the one you said you could give based on photos -- and then you stopped responding. That's all this was about. If you simply told me this project was not for you that would have been the end of it. You ghosting and then responding to me on Yelp in such an unprofessional manner is what is crazy. Calling the situation "fake" also shows a misunderstanding of California property law. Tree-root damage to a shared wall is a real, common issue here, and nothing I described was unusual. The reason the concrete failed before was that there was no rebar. They installed rebar, and you could tell it was not going to fail again. Vicente, the man who finished it, was like an artist making sure everything was just so. They made the leading edge of the concrete 6 inches where heavy trucks could damage it, then used asphalt repair material to make a little lip so there would be less pressure on the edge.
