I can't give a higher praise for the work completed. The last 6 months I've dealt with many unrealizable contractors who either didn't finish the work, or delayed it unreasonably. This review is long overdue, so sorry Otilio! Last year we had Otilio and his crew come out and do two jobs. Before I start I must say that Otilio and his crew are the BEST working crew we've had at our house. Super nice, completely honest and must have people to tackle your project. I wish we had more work for them. They get the work done right, the first time and answer all of your questions. Their prices are also extremely fair for high quality work. The first was our front entryway, where we had them demo the area and install brickwork. We had an existing brick (Davidson) that was lining out flowerbeds that we wanted to match, and Otilio was actually able to find the exact same kind! Our entryway went from hodge-podge to looking like its been there since the house was built. They also poured a new slab, so the brickwork will never fall apart from underneath. Super detail oriented, and they took about a week to do the whole job and everything came out perfect. The second job was in our backyard. We have an old bomb shelter which was leaking in the rain. It also had 18" of dirt on top, and in the rain the water had nowhere to go so it just sat in the dirt. We did most of the demo, and Otillio came and did the last of it. We had him pour a slab on top, with sloping in two directions. He also added stairs, and cut-lines in the concrete in important spots. For a final touch he capped the retaining wall with 12"x12" caps. He sealed all of the new concrete with a silicone roll on sealant. This bomb shelter is a very unique thing to have, and we wanted it to be good for another 100 years. There have been zero issues with their work, and most importantly no more leaks! He was very educational and explained what they could do, the types of bricks there were and was very precise in his measurements and plan of action as the job required demolishing the existing concrete and starting fresh so as to keep within the required depth and length of steps. We live in a townhome, so his son, Otilio, emailed me a very detailed scope of work plan for me to submit to my Homeowners Association for review and approval. We were so happy with this business. They were fast, friendly and knowledgeable and even asked to come earlier than scheduled due to upcoming rain storm and that helped us out too. We had a section of backyard block wall that became cracked due to tree roots. They were able to find matching block that fit in very well with our old wall of 35 years. They ended up digging out very thick old tree roots before putting the wall back together. They did an outstanding job and considering the slope our wall sits on, we were very impressed with the result. A year ago they added a brick facing to the side of the garage that matched the original bricks on my home - built in 1956. After 5 contractors and a range of prices, Veliz was our last call. Well worth the search! Leo was on time for our estimate. He gave us a verbal price, which made me a bit nervous, but the cost was in line worth our budget. I checked their contractors license with the State and they were in good standing. We had Veliz Masonry do work on our house. We are beyond happy with the results and the entire process. Otilio (owner) gave us a fair and honest price. These guys work really hard. They redid our driveway, and walkway with concrete. They designed our driveway with nice lines and framing, something so simple, yet it makes it look clean and sharp. We expanded our driveway and also added cement to the side of our house where we keep our trash bins and to our garage entryway. We added a brick wall to divide our property from the neighbors. The bricks were matched to the previous brick wall, and this new wall looks like it belongs there, doesn't look new and out of place. Our experience was superb. These guys really know their stuff and are extremely knowledgeable and nice to work with. It really was a relationship with them over these two months and they were great the whole time, through changes (some that we wanted and some that we were forced into), etc. They were great with structural issues (we had mold, rotted joists, drainage issues, etc) and aesthetic issues. I had asked the contractor to come out to survey and provide an estimate for a block wall job (the wall is 100'+). Otilio, I am assuming it was the owner, arrived promptly in clean and professional clothing. He was very genuine in the way he explain the process and possible issues that may arise during construction. Without going into too much detail, he actually suggested that I look for alternative contractors that specialize in a different material which he does not work with. If you have dealt with construction contractors in the past, you will know that pretty much all contractor is an expert at anything you ask them (because they want the job), with less regards in the homeowner's best interest. We've had Veliz masonry do three jobs for us. The latest was the largest when they replaced our entire driveway, entry walkway and front yard planters. We met with Otilio and told him what we wanted and he he made some helpful suggestions that we hadn't thought of for the walkway and some parts of the driveway. He was very easy to communicate with throughput the entire process. He told us where to go to find the type of stone we wanted to use for the entryway and planters. Once we decided, he met us at the stone yard so he knew exactly what we wanted and to avoid any mix-ups On the first day they got started, we went over the details once more with his crew to be sure everything was exactly how we had discussed. This family of masonry talent arrived on the time that they specified for the estimate. They took measurements and gave good input on my ideas. They relocated electric anti-syphen valves and everything worked as it did before. The block wall was finished when they said it would be. When they finished up for the evening they cleaned up the mess and made sure everything was safe. After they finished the block walls I also needed an entry gate and drive in gates. I tested their "no job is too small" slogan...and they came through! Because of a minor drainage issue there are some areas on my brick patio moss develops. It's dangerous. And since we're expecting 30 for dinner on Christmas eve we thought we needed to get this cleaned up. The guys came this morning right on time. Did a fabulous job in short order. A lot of scrubbing! They even provided me with some tips on what chemical mixtures to use to keep this nasty stuff at bay. I also received a bid on replacing a brick retaining wall. We asked Otilio Veliz and his masonry team, as well as his brother Gerardo Veliz's iron works business to make my front yard a little more secure and capable of holding in small to medium sized dogs. We had already contracted them a few years ago to put up a large blockwall with wooden topper in the backyard, which turned-out nice. So this year they added about 15" of decorative block followed by about another 3ft of wrought iron fence. They also installed 4 gates. I also asked them to put a slightly wide flat walkway going through our lawn out to the sidewalk leading to a main gate entrance that they installed. Prior to that, the main entrance was via the driveway which was less visible. Otilio suggested we use pavers for the walkway, which we had not considered, but we are very glad we went with the pavers.
