We had another company come out to sweep and inspect our chimney. They came back with a quote of over $8,000 worth of repairs that they claimed were absolutely necessary. We were shocked. We emailed Steve and another sweep to ask their opinion based on the inspection pictures and quote. Steve came out the next business day. The other quote we received was completely fraudulent and a money grab. Steve got us all new caps, with a top closing damper and did the few necessary repairs on both at a third of the price of that British guys quote for one. He even had another sweep come out for a reasonable fee to do a camera inspection to insure our liner was correct. The other company would have damaged our fireplace based on what they wanted to do. Best of all Steve explained in detail the other quote and what was necessary based on how our chimneys were built. He's going to clean and inspect my parents chimneys next. Before I found him...I had a well reviewed, reputable company look at my 2 gas fireplaces to make sure they were ok to use, but was suspicious when I got an estimate for more than $5k in repairs to make them safe and bring them 'up to code.' I wanted a second opinion and found Steve. After hearing my story he went out of his way to inspect my fireplaces and perform some minor and preventative maintenance, even figuring out the issue that we thought was with a fireplace, was actually with our roof (we've had roofers come since who told us how good Steve and his team were not to break any of our roof tiles and were thoroughly impressed they took the time to do a water test and figure out the real root of our issue). Steve is a very honest person who 100% puts his customer's needs first. Prior to us calling Chim Chimney, we had our chimney inspected by "The Chimney Guy" out of LA. They told us our entire chimney was bad and needed to be replaced. They quoted us $55K-$80K for a full replacement!! Yeah, right, and I was born yesterday... Obviously, I called other companies to get a second and third opinion. Steve at Chim Chimney came out and did his inspection and said there's no way we need a new chimney and the "cracks" the other guy had told us about weren't even cracks, it was just the overlap of the brick! Steve did some basic repairs, service and cleaning and after about six hours of labor, our total cost was $760.00. We ordered the chimney sweep and asked him to check out why our damper wasnt staying open. It would close in the middle of the fire. Come to find out the damper had cement on top of it not allowing it to dry. He had to drill it out. Good service and he completes the job in one day. read more
