I had my chimney cover done over a year ago by John and it is still looking like new and I have gotten a lot of comments and questions from my neighbors about it. I have an older house and the chimney needed some TLC, it didn't have a cover before when I purchased the house. I recently moved into a new house that had a double sided chimney, and one of the first thing I wanted to do, especially with the weather getting a bit colder, was make sure my chimney was clean and ready to use. I reached out in early January, and found that these guys are booked way ahead in advanced. The first availability they had was the beginning of February. I asked them for a quote for the job I wanted to do, and they gave me the estimates. It was on par, if not more reasonable with other chimney sweeps. I booked them, especially since they were very communicative. Two days beforehand they sent a reminder call that they would be out. It's been five years, probably about time for an update. We've had the guys from Pro-Tech out pretty much every year since we bought a house with a fireplace. Usually just for cleaning, which they do a phenomenal job with. They are always exactly on time, they call when they're on their way, they're efficient, tidy, and on target with their time and cost estimates. We had them out a couple of weeks ago for our yearly chimney sweep, while they were at the house, they pointed out some cracks in the firebox that should be repaired. John and Sean just caused me to feel so much more affirmed about my husband and I purchasing a house built in 1941. We asked them to come to our house to assure us that our chimney and fireplace were in good enough shape before having them install a gas log set up. We didn't think there was a gas valve shut off outside of our fireplace (tho there is one inside, womp womp) but John threw on his suit and went under our house to take a better look and lo and behold he found it. This find saved us hundreds of dollars! When they first got to the house I was telling them we'd be using the fireplace as our main source of heat as I read on John's shirt that they do air ducts as well. I asked them to take a look at our old heat registers that we thought didn't work. They, knowing their shit even as far back as 1941, saw that one still had its pilot lit. With their help we got the heat on!! We've been living in this house for 2.5 months not knowing our heat worked. (Another inspector led us to believe that it didn't!) All this to say John and Sean know their stuff. They went above and beyond and were very very thorough. We even got a spark arrester installed. All of this was in an hour. John and Sean were very careful in cleaning the chimney to make sure no mess was made. And Sean took the time to demonstrate the safe way to light a gas fireplace. We hadn't used our fireplace in a few years and wanted to clean it all up before we switched it back on (I am in total spring cleaning mode already!). I called a few chimney sweeps and Pro- tech was quick to respond and came over the very next day. John took a look at the chimney and also my dryer vent and I decided to get both cleaned. His prices were similar to the other places I had called. I also wanted to clean the fireplace and take out the logs and put fire glass in. He said they could do that also and spray paint the interior. John and his crew were very nice and cleaned up the space when they were done. The one star reduction is coz I was grossly overcharged on the glass ($150 for 10 lbs of glass and I needed 20 lbs). Afterwards, I called a few places and the price range is $60-$75 per 10 lbs and half that online. So, I guess I am burning diamonds!
