We worked with Debbie the whole time and started the process to order a fireplace mantle when we were in escrow months ago. Once we got the keys, design expert Michael came out and helped us narrow down the design and measured our existing old fireplace and firebox, and discussed how it would look installed, and helped us pick a color and material finish. We went back and forth and finalized the drawings for a design we liked (Josephine, one of the LA Cast Stone designs, SoCal Fireplace Mantels' new parent company). We paid the deposit and signed off on the drawings and our fireplace went into the queue for manufacturing. Weeks later we got a call to see the final piece in the factory, and the next day they installed it. Francisco and Juan drove out in a big van and brought the pieces (mantel, filler block pieces, hearth). They set up a canopy and worked in the driveway and living room. They demolished the old chunky fireplace (but kindly helped us salvage much of the old marble stone tiles). They framed and drywalled and leveled and mudded the wall. Then they cleaned up the floor and installed the new hearth with cement and cement board, then attached the filler pieces to the wall. Then they set the mantel down in place and measured a bunch, took it outside and shaved parts off the back, then brought it in again to see that it fit perfectly. Then they moved it out of the way again, added a 2x4 horizontal structured brace to hold the upper part of the fireplace against the wall, then finally set the fireplace using cement and shims. Then they cleaned up everything and grouted every little joint between the pieces and between the mantel and the wall. It took these experts eight hours but they worked like clockwork to attend to every detail. The results blew us away and we couldn't be more pleased. The fireplace looks like a carved stone piece that should cost three to five times as much money. We picked a material finish that highlights the stone nature of the piece and it exudes a feeling of quality and craftsmanship. It is substantial but looks crisp and detailed. It is solid but has a certain lightness and effortlessness that we will cherish for years to come. 1000% would recommend getting their install team to do the work because they will do it right. Pleased as punch. We feel blessed to have found such a showstopper piece to replace our old frumpy downer of a fireplace. The room feels new, and once we texture and paint and then replace the floor it will feel like a zillion bucks. read more

I can't give enough praises to this business. They made everything pretty easy. We first went to their office and Joseph greeted us. He allowed us to look around and even go to the back showroom. That's where we learned that they manufactured these mantels on site. Great news so we don't have to depend on other countries, right? We were having a difficult time finding a mantel that would work for our fireplace, because of the unique configuration of our family room. The fireplace is double-sided, so that it was visible from both the living room and family room. Plus, there are openings on either side of the fireplace, allowing you to see from one room to the other. Lastly, in the family room, there are cubbyholes on either side of the fireplace, which we use for the TV on one side, and the sound system on the other, and we needed to run multiple cables from one side to the other. I have uploaded a photo of the completed mantel (at Christmas time), to show the difficult situation. We called SoCal Fireplace because their website showed some (cast) mantels that might work for us. Joseph was very knowledgeable on the phone, and Michael came to our home to explain what would work, and what wouldn't. Michael then took photos and detailed measurements, which were apparently perfect, because the cast mantel is a perfect fit. When Francisco & his assistant arrived to do the installation, we were immediately impressed with the amount of preparation they performed prior to starting the demolition of the old fireplace. The entire pathway from the front door to the family room fireplace was completely covered. Then the fireplace area was completely enclosed in plastic sheeting to contain any dust. But there wasn't much dust, because they didn't really "demolish" the old fireplace... they carefully "disassembled" it. Running the stereo cables through the walls from one side of the fireplace to the other turned out to be more complicated than expected, and poor Francisco made two trips to Home Depot for supplies, because he wanted to make it perfect. Most contractors would have stopped work when it was "close enough," but Francisco is a perfectionist, and we are very grateful for that. Once the cabling was done, the rest of the installation went smoothly. And when they were done, they did a great job on the cleanup, including the necessary vacuuming. They were so careful and skilled in their work, that we didn't need to do any of the drywall repair or touch-up painting that we had expected to do. To summarize, we couldn't be happier with our SoCal Fireplace experience. Everyone we dealt with (Joseph on the phone, Debbie by email, Michael the design consultant, and Francisco the installer) was friendly and professional, and went out of their way to make sure we were happy with the result. read more

When we first moved into our place there was a mantle that was painfully ugly. We removed it and all the other crap it went with. Above the fireplace we put up one of our favorite paintings. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. The first time we used the fireplace it scorched the frame of the painting!! So, we had to replace the frame and get a new mantle. SCFM arrived right on time every time.
