We hired Fireplace Freddie to inspect and fix our 100-year-old fireplace & chimney, making it safe to burn real wood again. Nick and Scott came out quickly, and used cameras to inspect. During the inspection Nick visually showed me what the issues were. He also verbally suggested the fix. After the inspection, we received pics and a price quote to fix the issues by installing a stainless steel sleeve in the chimney. We sent the pics and info to 3 other businesses to compare prices. After speaking with Nick numerous times, including 2 conversations with my old school contractor buddy who asked Nick just about every ridiculous question he could possibly think of, Nick remained cool and answered all of his questions. Nick also agreed to do the job with a permit from LADBS which they included in the price, so we decided Fireplace Freddie was the right company to do the job. Patrick was our installer. He had a co-worker, but I didn't catch his name. They showed up on time, covered the floor and furniture and did their job. It took a few days as they said it would, but they were on time, clean and friendly. Each day they came, they covered everything. Each night, they cleaned up and uncovered everything before they left. Patrick also dealt with our LADBS inspector who admittedly was not well versed in chimney repair. Patrick was very friendly, gave the inspector the information he needed including printed specs from the manufacturer, and we passed inspection w/o issue. Scott came back 1 week later to test the fireplace. He lit a fire to make sure it was all good, and it is. To sum it all up, everyone was friendly and professional. After two quotes for work on our chimney, we reached out to Fireplace Freddie's and are so happy we did. We recently moved into the house and wanted to get the chimney taken care of right away. We met first with Nick, who went over every aspect of our chimney repair work. The meeting with him was head and shoulders above the two previous companies. Nick was so knowledgeable, professional and thorough. We were able to get the work done before the fall rush and the lead on the job Blake, along with his assistant did careful and thorough work in some pretty hot weather. It seems our chimney had never been maintained so it was a real safety issue. Nick showed us what needed to be done via a camera. Blake showed us all the repairs via camera. Everything was very transparent with no surprises. What I really liked was that there is a follow up with Quality Control who inspected the work, did carbon monoxide testing and set up our gas ceramic log set. Their office was responsive and working with Cheryl in accounts was easy. These guys are really excellent and deserve their good reviews. We had a smell of gas and brought them out for a checkup. They ran a camera and told us that the fireplace had not been installed properly by the builder in 2001 and that it was a major fire risk. They showed us the pictures of the metal flume not being attached properly and exposing the surrounding wood frame to heat and fire. Super dangerous. They scheduled the work and over 7 days finished it. I kid you not they probably had 7 different people come and work on different aspects, including having a quality control team. I really liked that they brought a separate team out to inspect the final work. That team ran quality control. That team found another minor problem with their own work and they redid it. The only thing I was surprised at was the cost of the entire project. But I think I didn't understand that fireplaces can be very expensive to repair internal damage. Overall, they are one of the most professional teams in the construction and repair industry I have ever seen. read more

My wood burning pre-fabricated fireplace had much creosol, I was told I had to replace my entire fireplace. I had a professional inspection report done and was recommended to Fireplace Frddie. Nick examined the report and told me the fireplace could be restored and proposed a list of thing to be examined and then designated the plan for restoration. The workers were professional punctual and clean as they inspected the metal flue pipe with a camera and removed the creosol, strapped the metal flue pipe down, fixed a couple of fire hazard areas and replaced the exterior cap and hood and reassembled the entire chimney. Kuno and his workers were proficient in their work and it tool two days, then Scott did the final inspection and test fire. Our old home was showing signs of water damage in our fireplace. Nick came out and did a thorough inspection, showing us the video feed as it appeared on his screen and explaining what we were seeing. We had a misunderstanding as to the cost of renting a lift, and they made several calls to find out why I was unhappy and then were totally fair in resolving the issue. Updating my review as they reached out after I wrote this to explain some worker injuries and planned vacation that kept them from responding in a timely manner. Although their prices are quite high for the work and out of my budget, Jordan was very helpful in explaining the new code and what can and cannot be done. It looks like the unit I was looking at will not work - very insightful (and scary) as other experts in the field did not pick up on the code details of the gas vent fireplace requirements. Note to homeowners, you have to do your own due diligence on reading code requirements, installation manuals and ask a lot of questions even to the experts as they have varying degrees of understanding of code laws. It is rare I would right such a long review but they deserve the praise. We had a slow constant drip when it rained. They came out and gave us an estimate. Put a camera up the chimney and found the way the water was coming in. They did tell us the price could go up because there were things they would not know until they were in the chimney. The crew was amazing and worked on the chimney for three days. I have never seen someone work as hard as they did in the pouring rain. When we saw them on our Starbucks run they were smiling as it pour on them. Of course we brought them Starbucks back. This chimney had not been worked on for 30 years. There were many issues with code that had to be brought up to code. So with the extra work they did we should never have any issues again. I got a weird vibe from them and decided not to move forward with the project. The guy who came out was late, I needed to call to figure out why they didn't call me. I was charged $125 for him coming to the house to "inspect" before quoting. I happily paid it, but then needed to call and nudge to even get a quote. The quote had little detail, not even a link to the fireplace they were recommending but lots of warning about not covering plaster and paint and holes. They never followed up after sending the quote. I would have said no thank you but hey they never asked. They got my $125 and i went another way. Be careful if your job isn't huge they don't seem to be interested. Update: Freddie called me within 10 minutes of the review going up. We had a nice talk and he refunded my credit card. They were very careful to cover all furniture and carpets in both rooms. They were very helpful in answering our questions about the repairs.
