UPDATE: This is the 1st spring season after the cap and dampner were installed. We had a repeat issue (not as severe) and called up John. I was very impressed again by his customer service and prompt attention. We were able to schedule a visit within a few days. John and his partner quickly realized that the dampner cord height needed to be adjusted and were able to perform the adjustments very quickly. I really enjoy working with this company not only because of the professional attitude but also because of John's knowledge. I use to work for this guy. In all honesty he is the only chimney company out there that will give you reasonable prices. We once had to clean up after another chimney company and get the job done correctly. We replaced the mesh screen on top of the chimney (which they charged the people $150) and it wasn't even held down! It was just wrapped over it like foil wrapped over a bowl. We gave the people a real chimney cap for $100 (a discount from $150). He might have been slow because it hard for him to get a receptionist that travels in a van and also does side manual work. I did all that, but I'm a tomboy so it came natural to me. I had to quit because it was only a seasonal job. Too bad Cali doesn't rain as often. read more

I have been looking for a good, honest, and professional chimney sweep. I have many fires per week throughout the cold months. Our chimney has not been cleaned in over 10 years and noticed that our chimney did not have a cap on it. We found Pro-Tech on Yelp and we were impressed with their great reviews. John and Shawn arrived at their scheduled appointment time. Both were very friendly. We selected one of the chimney caps that John had on his truck and he quickly installed it. He also cleared out a couple of old small bee hives inside the top of the chimney. In the meantime, Shawn was cleaning out our chimney and addressing some problems with our gas fireplace unit. I rarely do reviews but this company was outstanding from my first call. My chimney top blew off and I needed either a repair or replacement so I called. They were so busy after the wind storm that the first appointment would be in January, this was November, but I was given a company name closer to my home so I said ok and called them, never got a call back after leaving several messages! Tried another company and the same thing, no answer! I called back Pro-Tech and spoke with the same friendly lady and explained to her why I was calling back. She was surprised about no return calls and opened up a date at the end of a day the next week. On the day of the appointment I was called about an hour ahead of when they would be here, the two workers showed up on time and were working in 5 minutes, fixed the top temporarily and ordered a new one, they were back today after I was called ahead of time and installed my new chimney top and were done in 20 minutes! Absolutely amazing people. Service was quick and efficient went above and beyond. We are just moving into our house and they came and not only fixed the fireplace but made it look like a work of art. They fixed the damper that was jammed and swept the flue with no mess. disassembled a poorly constructed gas log and reassembled it with embers sand and gravel. They took their time to do things right. They also had a spark arrestor cap and were happy to install since we were missing ours. We purchased our home (built in the 50s!) back in April of this year and we were hesitant to use the fireplace since we weren't sure when it was last cleaned and inspected. John came over with another tech and walked us through the condition of our fireplace, chimney, and structural integrity. He uncapped the gas and repaired the broken gas pipe and installed a new one in the same visit. Also suggested and installed a new chimney cap as well. I had John out 5 yrs ago to clean the chimney. He told me it's clean and I didn't need service. Wow- there are honest people still out there!!! Over the last month, we have been smelling smoke inside as we burn wood. Called john again and he came out today. Turns out the chimney was full of caked on soot. Some of it even started to catch fire inside the chimney! John and his associate did a great job. We replaced the spark thing on top of the chimney and replaced the supply pipe beneath the grate. He did our dryer vent as well. I will never have another chimney guy out!!! read more

These guys are excellent. They cleaned our chimney and installed a gas log set in the fire place. They work very quickly and leave the space very clean. I based my decision to hire this company on yelp reviews, granted one of them is not worth reading because she is based out of New Jersey, I would highly recommend this company. John, the owner and Jack his assistant, were professional and efficient and definitely clean. I also voiced a concern about my air/heating vents, and John didn't even think twice, took a latter and climbed in the attic. He will be cleaning all the vents as well shortly after the Holiday season. Not only did these two awesome guys clean my 2 chimneys, they set up my gas fire log, added more embers and sand and left me a key ( to tun on gas) free of charge. After 25 years I decided to have my chimney swept and repair the cracked panel. After watching a video on how to do it yourself, I decided it was too much of a challenge and called a professional. Thought cleaning and inspecting our 40 year old fireplace would be messy and expensive. Was surprised and delighted to have found Protech. John and his assistant came out same day due to a cancellation and fixed everything, including our dryer vent and chimney covers all in a professional manner at very reasonable cost.
