When he came out, he did another fireplace sweep and also repaired cracks in both the exterior and interior of my fireplace. They first connected equipment to the outside dryer vent, where some lint came out, but not much. They then pulled the dryer away from the wall, removed the vent hose, and vacuumed the duct. There wasn't much lint inside either. After the cleaning, another technician came which I asked a couple questions. I mentioned that I was surprised there wasn't much lint, and he explained that my dryer vent is working properly because it vents directly outside instead of traveling a long distance through the walls. I also asked how often I should have it cleaned. Instead of trying to sell me unnecessary services, he told me it wasn't something I needed regularly. He recommended having it checked about every two years for peace of mind and safety. It's very rare someone (especially a business) is honest and I was grateful for his professional opinion. Overall, I like their punctuality and I will always recommend a company that gives straightforward advice instead of trying to upsell you.

When I saw that my chimney was crumbling apart and the bricks were chipping away, I didn't have much hope it could be fixed without a complete rebuild. Lucky for me I called John of Pro-Tech Services. It took him several hours but the finished product astonished me. I couldn't tell there was ever anything wrong. He did absolutely beautiful work and it now looks in perfect condition. Other people later made this same remark about the work. John is also very knowledgeable of everything having to do with fireplaces and chimneys which reassured me that I was doing the most possible to properly maintain. And he did not try to add things on to increase the bill - an honest contractor. If I have any chimney/fireplace needs in the future, it's a sure bet of who I will call. I needed to get the chimney serviced and the drier duct cleaned out. Pro-Tech was able to come out and take care of both tasks, early the following week. They were on time, neat and professional. One gentleman took care of the fireplace, while I showed the other where the drier vent was on the roof. The drier had always been slow since we moved into our condo. John found that there was some kind of brush stuck in the duct that was blocking the flow. Now, the clothes dry in a single cycle - instead of 3 or 4 depending on the size of the load. My fireplace in a home I bought would force hot air into the room and not exhaust. John was a real pro, climbed on the roof and in 5 minutes saw that the exhaust pipe was too long and hit the cover. Overall I was pretty disappointed. -in the end they wouldn't even send me a written report or copies of the pics they took. -while on-site they really pressured me to agree to a bunch of repairs. Their repairs were also expensive. For example- they wanted $300+ to put some high heat mortar on the back side of my fireplace opening. This actually needed to be done but it was a tiny job. When I said I'd do it myself the vendor implied I was incapable without knowing I do small jobs like that all the time. I ended up doing the job myself for about $10 in materials and 30 mins of my time. -they told me my chimney needed a deep cleaning. Yet, unknown to them the chimney had been cleaned the week before. I asked them a few times- are you sure I need a cleaning?" Overall just not a great experience.

IF THE FIREPLACE CROWN CRACKS HAVE THEM FIX IT IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT CRACKED BRICKS due to steel reinforcement rust. Most damage is not caused by earthquakes but rather by rainfall leakage thru the crown into the brick reinforcement. Delay of repair just causes more damage.
