Our remodel took way longer than expected, but it wasn't Trey's fault (supply chain issues held our doors up for 8 weeks). I have a flat fire place and one of those annoying corner ones. I also was thinking about using glass tiles to enclose the fireplace. Though he does not work with the glass tiles, he took the time to call and go over what made the most sense for us as a consumer. He laid out my options and gave me a rough estimate of what it may cost. Full disclosure, I did not use their services but I would have if I'd lived in OC. I called to inquire about some work and quickly we realized I'm out of his service area. I first contacted Trey at OC Fireplace Pro's during the summer of 2017 when I wanted a barbeque island built in my backyard. He was prompt in getting back to me and gave me a rough idea over the phone of how much the project would cost. I also contacted several other contractors, but some never bothered to return my calls, and others said they did not do small projects like mine. One other contractor came to my house and gave me an estimate, but it was extremely high - I don't think he really wanted the job because it wasn't a $50,000 complete backyard landscaping project. The BBQ Island is just beautiful. It's cinder block and concrete construction with granite countertop. Trey had lots of good ideas and was very helpful by offering suggestions and opinions regarding what would look good and which options would be more functional. A few months after he built our BBQ Island, we had Trey build an outdoor gas fireplace in our backyard. This time I didn't bother getting other estimates, as I knew his prices would be fair and the construction would be superb. The fireplace far exceeded our expectations. It is a stunning centerpiece in our yard. The granite is the same as was used for the BBQ Island, tying the two projects together seamlessly. The fireplace is all cinderblock, concrete and stone construction (with stucco on the sides and back, and below the seat wall in the front). Again, Trey's ideas and suggestions were extremely helpful, but at no time did he pressure us to conform to his suggestions. Trey is very knowledgeable about proper fireplace design and construction. The construction quality is top notch and the city inspectors deferred to Trey's expertise, asking him technical questions at almost every inspection. Fireplace construction is not a simple task. Getting the right draw and acceptable heat radiation is technically challenging. Making it look beautiful while also accomplishing the technical requirements requires a master craftsman. Trey Callahan is that master! In addition, Trey and his helper, Logan, were timely, efficient and neat. During both projects, they cleaned up daily and were careful around our existing landscaping and construction. If you are considering adding an outdoor fireplace, do not install a prefabricated unit. The price difference is not prohibitive, and having a custom built fireplace is worth the extra cost. The prefabricated units will eventually rust and deteriorate. The masonry fireplace will outlast your home. I cannot say enough good things about OC Fireplace Pros and Trey Callahan. He is a true craftsman, and professional mason.
