We occasionally love a great cafe feeling place. This is it. Old school cafe. You have to order at the counter which is a throw back feeling. The service is great, kept us refilled and good to go. My wife ordered the French toast it was nice not amazing but nice. I ordered the bacon cheese omelet with loaded (bacon and cheese) hash browns. They were good not great but good. If you like these places this place is good. Really nice and good not amazing but good. read more

This place has been here for 42 years and I can see why! The staff are so friendly, the ambiance is great and the food is amazing! For real home cooking! I had the best tasting Gyro omelet and my husband had the eggs, hash brown and corned beef. We are locals so we only go on the off season due to the high volume of people who want to eat here! read more

I recommend this as a solid breakfast restaurant if you're visiting Outer Banks. Service is very friendly. The owners are actively working. One is working the cashier and is very patient, constantly explaining alternatives to the posted menu. The other is making sure that tables are cleaned and things are moving smoothly. The restaurant is clean and the patrons move in and out efficiently. In terms of food, I would say it's basic and solid. It's not mind blowing but breakfast food isn't complicated. Good place to put on your vacation breakfast rotation. read more

We rolled up and the line was wrapped around the building. It moved pretty quickly though. Cute lil vibe to the place. Service was great, everyone was really friendly. An old school breakfast joint with a cafeteria style line and open kitchen. The restaurant is clean and open, so it gets pretty noisy with all the families and kids. Portions are generous. The waffle and French toast were amazing. Eggs and bacon were just fine. The hash browns aren't my favorite style--more mush than defined, crispy griddled potatoes--but what they lack in texture they make up in GIRTH. It's a large ass portion. Service was very attentive and full of southern hospitality. This place is worth the wait! read more

What to say? Excellent food, great selection, and exceptional friendly service. We ate there the first two mornings of our 3-day Beach trip. The first day I had the short stack of pancakes with 3 eggs over easy and a side of the homemade corned beef hash. She had a cheese omelette with mushrooms, onions and hash browns. We both had coffee, and it was excellent as well. The second day, I had a Western omelette and hash browns. She had the ham and cheese omelette with mushrooms and onions. We were planning to return for breakfast on the day we left, but the line was stretched halfway around the building and we were on a time constraint so we had to stop somewhere else. Stack 'Em High will be our go-to spot for breakfast whenever we're in the northern OBX. Try it, it's great! CD friendly! read more

Deliciousness - 4/5 Happiness - 4.5/5 I'll admit that I was surprised by how good this place is as it . The long line should have clued me in, but I was skeptical given the This restaurant has a fun and focused menu of pancakes, hotcakes, eggs, and french toast. You order assembly line style, which I associate with my college days of low quality meals. But these dishes pack in the flavor. And despite a very crowded venue, the servers were all friendly and attentive. I had an omelet with gyro meat and tomatoes along with top notch HOMEMADE tzatziki sauce (which was the star of the show, if you visit when they have it, make sure to order it). The biscuits and toast were excellent. My kids particularly enjoyed the eggs. And everyone in my group who ordered the pancakes or hot cakes really enjoyed them. They also serve local roasted coffee with free refills, which is quite the bargain. That said, we found the bacon and corned beef hash very disappointing. The hash was overly moist and very salty. And the bacon was very fatty. But overall, this was a great experience and a breakfast joint that's well worth checking out. read more

Stack' em High really stacks' em in ... Better head there ASAP or you'll be hanging outside waiting with all the other late sleepers. I've tried 3 days to try this place out and finally today I was the 1st person in line. Yippie!!! Nice lady greeted me as she unlocked the door and explained to grab a tray and my choice of beverage then order at the end and pay . Somewhat cafeteria style without getting your food. Take your tray with a number to your table and wait. They do have a GF bread and it was good. The hash browns and potatoes cut and grilled. You can order them smother with cheese and bacon. Everything I had was delish. Opening at 7:00 am every morning except Wednesday. Very friendly staff with great customer service. Thank you for making me feel right at home. read more

When you pull into the parking lot, do not be put off by the long line to get it. It will stretch down the side of the building and across the front. The wait however is around 20 minutes to get it. Friendly service, great food in a casual, cafeteria style setting. The thing is that each entree is prepared fresh to each customer's order. The staff is attentive and the food delicious. Really neat spot in OBX and their food is mouthwatering. Firstly, I must mention that the service is amazing here. I witnessed to what I assume was the owner hop right into a family's selfie with a large smile and the "rock on" signs. They have a family atmosphere and they broadcast they're a dementia friendly location. I got the Spanish omelet, smothered hash browns, and French toast. The omelette's cheese was more of a liquified cheese with fresh tomatoes. The cheese and bacon on the hash browns was crispy and moist; DELICIOUS! Love it! Went several times while here. Had the pancakes, omelet and biscuit and gravy. HIGHLY recommend the biscuit and gravy. It was perfect gravy - very flavorful. Pancakes were very good. We didn't get any toppings, but those looked super yummy. Overall, the food was great and the service was super attentive. My water glass was never empty. Don't be afraid of the line when you arrive. My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try after it was recommended to us on an Outer Banks Facebook group. We were a bit taken a back by the long line and packed parking lot, and assumed we would have a long wait time. We soon realized that Stack em High has a bit of an unconventional concept where you wait in a queue to order your food (kind of cafeteria-style) and then your food is brought to your table. The customer service was absolutely amazing, the owners/employees make you feel like you are family and are so kind! I ordered chocolate chip pancakes with coconut and banana (can't stop thinking about how good they were), along with a side of grits. My boyfriend got an omelette and he subbed the toast for a biscuit (strong play). The sweet tea here was also a must try. Overall, it's been over 2 months and we still can't stop talking about how amazing this place was. We can't wait to come back again next year :) read more

First time customer at Stack'em High and could not resist the solid overall rating with recents also great. There are two locations within six miles, or so on the same road. I caution reviewers to make sure they enter for the correct location if posting photos and reviews. My visit on a Friday morning at the Kill Devil Hills Stack'em High. As is everything on the highway be prepared to stop and turn. Signage is good out front. The parking lot was clean and spacious enough to locate a space up front on a busy post Thanksgiving rush. The exterior is painted in bright pink and in good condition. The surprising thing to me was the cafeteria style line as you enter the door. It is one-way and this is where you review the menu on large boards. As well retrieve your own drinks and silverware. I asked for assistance on milk which is behind the counter in cartons. The woman assisting me asked if I had been to Stack'em before. She provided a warm howdy and instructions on the process. I really felt welcomed. The kitchen is right before your eyes with nothing hidden. A cook had command of the large grill with a whole lot going on around him. The area was clean. At the end of the line you pay, the take all major credit cards. No tipping on card, cash only at the table. The cashier was friendly and smile the entire time. The dining room was 90% full and navigation a bit challenging. The food on the tables looked great. Nothing fancy about the eating area. It's squared off and accommodates 85 guest maybe. Prior to my order with son being delivered at our booth I received a coffee refill. Around 15 minutes later a tray of five pancakes stacked high, eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage, toast and waffle hit. The waffle looked dark to me and I questioned if overdone. The waitress without hesitation said she would have another out in minutes, no problem. Within minutes another was out of the kitchen and looked great! My son reported his pancakes good, not over the top yum, but good! He ate almost all of them. Scrambled eggs and bacon good. My waffle was tasty. Syrup is provided at the table. Sausage was good and the the fried up potatoes super! Coffee was average. Our waitress touched the table 4-5 times over our breakfast lasting approximately 30 minutes. To me that was incredible! Another woman was clearing at the end and took a few items off the table. I feel very good about a solid four stars on Stack'em High Pancakes. There are other items on the menu such as French Toast with fresh fruit I would love to try next time. To me the overall good is in the 3.5-4 category. The service was no doubt a 5 and one of the better experiences in the Outer Banks. They are family friendly and for the quality of food a decent value. I would return and recommend. read more

When you arrive, there is a line wrapped around the building but it does not take long to get inside. The restaurant is very informal. You go through a cafeteria style line picking your drinks and then order at the cash register. There is someone waiting on you throughout. The restaurant is a cute little beachy shack with an open kitchen so you can watch the food be prepared while you are in line. The loaded hash browns were my husband's favorite thing. I enjoyed the very berry short stack combo with the scrambled eggs. The sausage links could have used a little longer on the grill. They were quite chewy. Food is great. The food at this place never disappoints!! I recommend the chocolate chip pancakes (my son gets them EVERYTIME) he says there amazing. The staff is super sweet. One thing I will say is this place gets business so it's usually crowded, so if you don't like a lot of people this place sadly may not be the place for you. It's usually pretty loud when I go can't ever hear the music but I don't really mind. Don't recommend this place if you have claustrophobia, the tables are pretty close to each other. But overall if all your worried about is food, this place is super great. read more

This place is amazing. A little daunting with the line wrapped around the building but it is well worth it. We ended up waiting 30 minutes to the front of the line and were seated immediately. Their system and set up of no seat until you order works. Food came out quick and hot. Biscuits and gravy were fantastic and a little spicy Which was great. Had a pancake too because why not I'm on vacation and it was delicious. I'm a connoisseur with a passion for pancakes from Hawaii and these stood the test. Perfect place for breakfast for 2 or a large group. You line up cafeteria style for your beverages and in line you can see them making all of the mouthwatering food! At the end a cashier takes your order and gives you a number to take to your table. The servers bring your orders to you hot, fresh and quick! The biscuits are made daily so when they run out... they are out for the day. I chose the biscuit instead of the toast. The restaurant has a hometown vibe. All I have to say is it's an absolute yes for me. read more

Great place to eat breakfast with any size group. Don't let the line outside fool you! It moves really well . We met Nick while in line. We were visiting from Wilmington with a party of 12 adults. We waited maybe 20 minutes. We were asked while in line, how many were in our party. They had us a place to sit all together by the time we ordered and paid. You wait in line to order. Menu is posted on a Chalkboard. More toppings than you ever could imagine on your Pancake French Toast or Belgian Waffle and oh my goodness those biscuits and gravy. History

Established in 1981.

After running the iconic Point Harbor Restaurant at the foot of the Wright Memorial Bridge from 1969 to 1979, Greek immigrants, Perry & Kiki Kiousis were inspired to start a new endeavor. Perry created the fresh business model of serving good food fast, but not serving fast food. His legacy of hospitality and whimsy continues under the leadership of his son, Nicholas who is joined in business with his wife, Dawn. After nearly four decades, the Kiousis family is still serving breakfast and so forth.

Nick, his wife, Dawn and short stacks, Eleni and Theo are the owner/operators of the Milepost 9 Stack 'em HIgh. We are proud of the longevity of our staff, which have become an extension of our family.

Another thing to note is most places that are typically a local favorite are closed in Tuesdays. We drove into their massive lot and didn't see any cars. Yes, it was 11:00am but they didn't close until 12:30p. Typically this family run restaurant does a cafeteria style line but off season it's table service. Yeah for us! Food was cooked made to order and SO delicious. I opted for a breakfast quesadilla and a side of pancakes(2 for the senior option). The salsa on the quesadilla was super tasty hint of garlic and fresh tomatoes. The super short stack of pancakes went to my belly quickly, hope I got photos. Service was spot on. Yes, a couple more people came but our server managed everything perfectly. From now on, we won't be driving to the Nags Head location, because I'm bumping the starts at this location.

It was the best food we had all week. The owners were very kind and very helpful. They were very excited to have someone order off the Peruvian menu. We are so happy to have found this place. We came back in the morning to try the breakfast menu and it was really good too. We'll be coming back to eat here; when we come back to this area. Definitely recommend eating here!
