Here's the playbook: you get in, grab a tray and drinks, and peruse the menu. You order at the end of the line with the cashier and sit down and from there it's full service (so please do everyone a big favor and tip generously at the cashier because everyone here is fantastic and attentive). Food portions and pricing were so reasonable. Our little ones wanted chocolate chips with strawberries on their pancakes and waffles and they did not skimp on the toppings whatsoever (with huge bits of chocolate Inside the pancake and waffles and on top). My Monster Biscuit Sandwich was def sizable with flaky biscuit and perfectly seasoned hash on the side. We love how quickly we were served (super plus for families with little ones) and how attentive they are. The staff even had a high chair and color book set up before we sat down. Highly highly recommend this place guys. Note: you may spend longer waiting to order and eat than actually eating. 5/5! I love this place. After looking at all the positive reviews, I had to give this place a try for breakfast. There was a little wait when arriving, but the lines move fairly quickly. There isn't an option to make a reservation or put a name down on a list, just first come, first serve. However, it does give you plenty of time to browse the menu, as there are a ton of options. When it's your turn in line, you grab a tray, drinks and then give your order and pay. The Food: I went with the Western Omelet with smothered Hashbrowns and a side of strawberry pancakes. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. The Omelet was had tons of filling and the hashbrowns were crisp. Nothing was overcooked at all. The pancakes were fluffy and the strawberries were fresh as well. The Service: Despite the long lines, you'll get through it fairly quickly as they try to keep the food coming out as fast as possible. There's plenty of seating, and they bring your food out to you when you paid for your order. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming as well. First morning in the OBX landed me here. Due to the name, I of course had to try the pancakes, which were tastefully salty and sweet with a spongey texture that dissolves on the tongue like cake. However, I would only imbibe in pancakes if real maple syrup was available... which I was happy to see it was, even if at $2 for 2oz (which I gladly pay... but if you're bothered by gas prices... go tap some maple trees and sell it here!) The sausage links were on the fattier side and wrinkled like an old man coming out of the cold ocean, but I'm not picky about sausage or old shriveled men. (Are you laughing yet or insulted? ;-) The omelette was the kind made by a thin layer of egg cooked up first with fillings thrown in after and rolled up like a burrito. The hasbrowns are a fresh potato flavor and chop with skins on, partially boiled then grilled and rested on the grill for a few crunchy bits. The sourdough is so close to white bread in flavor that it's hard to tell the difference, but thankfully the packaged jam containers are real fruit rather than high fructose with flavoring. Caught a little off guard as it starts off as a cafeteria experience, so start reading the menu board above as when you get to the end you have to order. The cafeteria line is for drinks; juice, coffee or soft drinks. Once you order and pay, you sit with number. A waitress comes around refilling your coffee and asking if you want water. Love Love Love this place. We came here twice for a week's stay at OBX. You enter and stand in a line to get grab drinks and order at the cash register. It is kinda like a hotel resort. The grill was cleaned prior to toasting and the staff was familiar with Celiac. The actual omelette was super tasty and filled with plenty of bacon. I don't usually love hash browns but these were light and tasty. My partner got French toast with chocolate chips and pecans, with a side of bacon. She thought it was really great as well. --Cost: Pretty affordable. About $10 per plate, depending what you get, but everything was very tasty. --Atmosphere: It's a really cute / homey feeling establishment. The tables are pretty close to each other, so if that kind of thing bothers you, you might want it to go. This general area of OBX has some pretty hot spots, and this place is one of them. --Service: Fantastic! Staff was knowledgeable about Celiac (gluten autoimmune disease) and they bring your breakfast to you right at the table. Staff was also incredibly nice despite it being busy. (And busy it was!) Overall: If you want somewhere that's fancy with bells and whistles, this isn't the place for you. In terms of cleanliness, a zero. When entering the building you are prompted to grab silverware out of a dishwasher box that supplies the silverware for everyone that comes in. All the silverware in one box for everyone to put their hands in and grab instead of wrapping it in something to put on the tables. Food was not good. Pancakes were thin and cheap. Not what I expected... Once you walk in, you grab a tray. We're talking high school lunch style! You pick any drinks you want - juice out of the coolers, pour your own coffee, soda fountain. Then you grab silverware and order your meal at the register. They assign you a table to sit at based on how many are in your party, so you take your tray and number to that table. The food was DELICIOUS! I understand why we had to wait in a line out the door all the way into the parking lot. The wait was long, but the food was worth it! I highly recommend the Biscuits & Gravy. We had their granola and fruit bowl, scrambled eggs and the monster biscuit egg sandwich. The granola had a good flavor and was crunchy and crumbly. It held up to the yogurt and fruit. The monster biscuit egg sandwich was something else. It was a big biscuit with the egg and cheese folded in it. I added the country ham. It was so good. Beware that the biscuit doesn't hold up to eating as a sandwich. This is a good thing. The biscuit was fluffy and crumbly, but grilled a bit. I had the berry crunch pancakes with sausage links, my husband had the monstrous country ham, egg and cheese sandwich with a side of gravy for dipping and we split a western omelet with fresh cut potato hash browns and toast just to try multiple things. At no time during our ordering, being seated, or eating did we see the dining room full. As you are in line placing your order people are cycling out. The line moves pretty steadily. Plus we had Macy to talk to and remind Donnie to stop being Bossy. The staff were very friendly! Everyone seemed to enjoy their jobs and working there. You can see the kitchen as you prepare to place your order. It's very clean and orderly. Donnie says the food was "prepared with love". The menu is a pretty reasonable with an obvious focus on pancakes. (Hence the business name.) The pancakes were delicious. If you like crêpes, you'll love these. They are light and fluffy. Just perfect. If you like thick cut bacon... you may be a little disappointed. The bacon is thin but cooked nice and crispy. We alls had the eggs and grits. Listen!!! This place is like being at grandma's house on the weekend waking up to breakfast!! Not only is the food good but the service is quick. I love the way that it is set up. You come in, grab a tray (per family or per check), grab a drink and tell them your order at the register. From there, they will bring you your order and you will have a full wait service. I ordered the short stack breakfast which consisted of 3 pancakes, eggs and bacon. I ordered my son the eggs and bacon breakfast which consisted of eggs, bacon, grits and an English muffin. We shared my pancakes. Both of us were greatly satisfied. Well I should say he 3 of us since I am 8 months pregnant, lol. The food was beyond delicious.
