Casual and quick. Everything was delicious and the service was amazing! The sausage was a bit overcooked and avoid the $20 steak and eggs at all cost. But everything else was really yummy. Don't miss out on the Funnel Cake Fries!! So good! read more

Terrible. I've have 8 check in into this place. I keep coming back and giving them another try, but now I'm done! Tired of stale, fries, tator tops, fried chicken that had been sitting under heat lamps and come out cold and stale. I'm done. I won't be back! read more

Got breakfast here on a Saturday with my cousin and sister. There was a 30 minute wait for us to get seated. Definitely get there early or sometime after the morning breakfast rush. I feel like around 11:30am there was less of a crowd. My cousin and sister got the kiss our grits for breakfast and I got the French toast platter. Everything was good and we all cleared our plates. Breakfast at grits grill was the perfect way to start off our morning. read more

Starving after hang gliding and hiking at Jockey's Ridge. I ordered an omelette with cheese and mushrooms and hash browns. Husband got the kiss my grits which included eggs, pancakes and grits. Soda was well-carbonated and they have good ice. Omelette was good size and full of cheese and mushrooms. Hash browns were not crispy at all but had a bit of a smoky flavor to them. Quick and good service. read more

I ate there yesterday and the food was served to me on a plastic white plate that had deep, black knife scores on it. I do not think it is healthy to keep using that plate. The coffee mug also had coffee stains around where you sip the coffee. The waitress kept walking by as I was trying to grab her attention. I will definitely not be returning there or go to Dunes since it is my understanding they are run by the same family. read more

Great food fast service. Definitely a locals spot. They had chicken fried steak on special which was awesome and sausage gravy that had a little kick to it accompanied it perfectly. Eggs were cooked over easy as ordered, but the house made biscuits by far were outstanding. Soft warm and huge well done!!! Hashbrowns had good seasoning and flavorful and also had to get a side of grits to see how true to their name they actually were. Nicely done left there stuffed . Get there early or you will be waiting for a while... read more

We decided to try this restaurant for breakfast. Our waitress, Julia, was very efficient but not very friendly at first. By the time we left, we managed to get a smile out of her. Our choices, French toast, waffle, creamed chipped beef, and regular eggs platter were delicious. The place reminded me of an old time diner. read more

"Southern-style diner-like brunch food in Nags Head" In "the Food Lion strip mall" on Croatan Hwy, not far from the Fresh Market, sits this little spot, just open until 2pm. As you might guess from the name, they really specialize in breakfast-style foods, and specifically southern emphases on this. We came on a Monday at just after noon and were able to get a table quickly. It has a bright, clean diner-like feel, though definitely beach-themed paintings, and the staff are friendly. The menu matched what you'd expect from a diner in the south-- lots of egg and grits dishes, hash browns, biscuits, etc., as well as some sandwiches. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with hashbrowns, and a house salad. My daughter ordered corned beef hash, a biscuit, a bowl of grits with cheese, and a sweet tea. House salad came out super fast-- within just a couple of minutes. It was fine-- the lettuce was just OK (iceberg but not wilted) but there were bell pepper slices, cucumber, tomato, etc., to make it a little nicer. Our mains came out maybe 10 or so minutes later. The crab cake was a little smaller than I might have guessed, and in a perfectly shaped patty that looked like it may have been something bought as frozen from one of the grocery stores nearby. Still, it tasted pretty good, and came on a nice bun with lettuce, tomato, and a sauce kind-of like thousand island dressing. The hash browns were good-- fried well. They had an interesting smoky flavor-- maybe they were cooked along with some meat or meat grease. My daughter's food was all pretty good. Again, the corned beef hash looked like what one might get from a can, but it tasted good, and the biscuit and grits were very good. The tea was unexpectedly not as sweet as one would think, but maybe they're accommodating northerners. Price was fair for a tourist town. Note-- you take the bill up to the front to pay. Overall, it's decent diner food. If you're looking for upscale fancy food, this is not the place to go. But if you're looking for a decent diner with southern foods, this is a good option. read more

Stopped in about 11 AM on a Monday. Seated right away and I knew what I wanted so made the server's job easy. But, be warned vegetarians! Do not order the hashbrowns or anything else cooked on the grill (ask); I could taste the bacon/ham residue and it almost made me gag. My fault really; I shoulda asked or just skipped them altogether. The portions are large enough that I had to plenty to eat without contaminated hashbrowns. Additionally, I got the grits and biscuit; both were good, as I expected. The biscuit in particular was outstanding, and huge! If you have a vegan diet, skip this place; vegetarians can squeak by. Classic greasy-spoon/diner vibe with some seats at a counter and tables ranging from a deuce to a four-top. The kind of place where you go to the register to pay your check, not wait for the server to do it for you. This is a breakfast-brunch only place; they close early afternoon. read more

We are locals. We eat here periodically for breakfast. Sad to say, it's a hit and a miss. Mostly miss. We ate there for breakfast Sunday. The biscuits crumbled in your hand trying to put butter on them. The eggs were okay but cold by the time they came out. The sausage patty was like leather. My granddaughter had biscuit with sausage gravy and the gravy was cold, literally again like it had been sitting. The three of us came away disappointed. The waitress never came back j for coffee or tea refills. read more

For the last 10 years, My family and I usually make Grits Grill a regular stop every time we are in the OBX. Never again. The last few years the service has gone WAY downhill. This time sealed the deal that we will take our money elsewhere. We entered and put in our name for a party of 8. There are many toys for purchase at the check out desk, so naturally the kiddos in our party immediately went there to look and ogle the toys (isn't that why they are out there?). The manager was visibly irritated that we were taking up space, and sharply told us we need to go outside and wait to be called. We wrangled the kiddos and sat outside on the benches. When seated, our server couldn't smile if her life depended on it. Well, at least for us. She was pleasant and jovial and accommodating to the tables around us. At our table she was short and stone faced and it was clear that for some reason, our party was an annoyance and an inconvenience to her. She was short with every response and very unpleasant. I would listen to her talk to other tables and it was a stark difference. We are a friendly, patient group with manners so I'm really not sure what was going on. She just slapped our checks down and didn't come back. Thanks for the long run, Grits Grill, but from now on we will take our hard earned money somewhere that treats their customers better. read more

So heads up -- you're going to experience a wait here. Especially in the morning on a weekend. But let me tell you, it is WORTH IT. I surprised my mom with a birthday breakfast here and she absolutely loved it. It's a cute, retro diner with all of your typical breakfast options and then some. They specialize in grits, so you'll find many variations throughout the menu. My mom chose Shrimp and Grits as her meal and it was DIVINE. She mentioned it was the best I think she had ever had! The grits here are TO DIE FOR. They're so good. I'm dairy free so had to opt for no cheese but they were still the best I'd ever had. Every one of us six enjoyed our meal and the service provided. You may have to turn a blind eye to a couple of cleanliness issues, but the pros certainly outweigh the cons here! If I find myself in the Outer Banks, I will definitely be returning for a visit to Grits Grill! read more

It was ah-ight. We got there early, so we're seated quickly. The service was prompt and polite. The food was okay. The pancake was very thin, but good. The seafood omelette smelled strongly of ham, so you knew what was cooked right before. Everything seems to be cooked on-a shared griddle, where the patrons in one part of the restaurant can observe. The hash brows were soft and forgettable. The ambiance is standard for a tourist area, and they helpfully sell stuffed gifts for kids as well as beach bags. Note, while my partner ate, I did not as I have a severe food allergy, which they couldn't accommodate. This is NOT a negative on them, but another posting said they had vegan food, which water is vegan, I guess. read more

One of our fave spots for breakfast! There is usually a wait when we stop by but they move very quickly so it's not bad. I like to order the Two eggs plus or shrimp & grits. The two eggs plus includes two eggs, hashbrowns or grits with your choice of toast or biscuit with bacon or sausage. You get a lot of food for $8.99! Their shrimp and grits is topped with bacon, green onion, sausage peppered gravy, and sautéed shrimp. Also comes with toast or a biscuit. The food here is so good and comforting. It's a great local diner and we always plan to stop by at least once when we're visiting the area! read more

Bottom Line: Super casual diner. For an early morning breakfast Grits Grill is my jam. Before a line forms and it gets loud inside I really enjoy the fast and friendly service of Grits Grill. They keep my coffee mug full and I like that I can get breakfast combos with both savory and sweet items like the "Kiss My Grits" platter - eggs, sausage, grits and pancakes.
