The menu is simple and clear. There's only outside seating and no restroom. That being said, the food was delicious! It's the greasy spoon burger, fries, corn dog, onion rings, and shakes you really want to eat. I ordered my burger plain, but they gave me one with everything. We had been out and decided to stop by here to give it a try. We got burgers, fries, and onion rings. The cashier was super nice and laid back. When we got the order we were missing onion rings but apparently he forgot to write them down. So we went back to the other window and ordered them. They were okay super fried and stuck together so I wish we didn't buy them. The first batch of fries were hard and cold. When we ordered the onion rings, we added more fries without tasting the others yet. The second batch was a little warmer. The burger was a overpriced burger. It was fine. I wouldn't not return. We arrived to OBX before our house was ready, so we decided find a place for lunch. We decided to try Dune Burger. The burgers were delicious along with the onion rings. When we went, there was a sign stating no shakes. We placed our order at the window and waited for our food to be cooked to order. The parking lot is small. My brother in-law ate here over 10 years ago, but it was good enough that he really wanted to go back. As a burger junkie, he definitely didn't need to twist my arm. Now, this is a burger stand, so the entire review should be viewed through that lens. Food (5/5): I got the double dune burger and fries, and it was exactly what I wanted from a burger stand. The bun held up, which is important when you're eating a double patty burger. I could taste all the standard condiments, but nothing was overpowering. The patties were tasty; I'd compare them to something like Five Guys, as they were better quality than your average fast food place. Service (4.5/5): The guy who took my order was very polite and accomodating. They did mess up my order and my brother in-laws but they were quick to fix it. Mistakes happen and they made it right. There was a steady stream of customers, so that's understandable. They didn't have straws or forks readily accessible so I had to ask, but again, they were accommodating. We got our food 5 minutes after ordering it, which I thought was extremely fast. Everything was cooked to order, so no issues there. Price (5/5): For a popular vacation destination, the prices were very reasonable. For a family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids) we purchased a meal for everyone and it barely topped $30. Disappointed again. Second year in a row they charged for a Dune Burger ($8.37 plus tip) and gave me a Jr. Dune Burger. Dune Burger is across the street from Jennette's Pier, so it's easily walking distance if you're spending the day on the pier or beach. We got two dune burgers w/ cheese, two orders of fries, and two drinks which totaled up to $17.51. I felt like that was a little steep, but I did enjoy the food. While the food is good, the service was not. I was under the impression that they opened at 10am because of hours I found posted online. When I walked up to the window a couple minutes after 10, the lady behind the glass told me they would be opening at 11. Still not sure what their actual business hours are. We head back to the beach still hungry and wait another hour. My girlfriend went back to get the food while I stayed on the beach. She walked up to the "Pick-up Window" by mistake, so they hit the window and motioned for her to go down to the "Order Here" window and was greeted with "What do you want?" Yes, the place is super small and there's typically a decent line waiting if you're going during a popular time (noon or 1 pm) and it sucks to wait in a long line outside with the sun beating down on you. But, in my opinion, it is so worth it! I didn't experience the poor customer service as past reviewers have noticed; the order came up pretty fast, everything was the way it should be, and the people were nice enough (I mean there wasn't a long conversation to be had there- I ordered the food, paid, said thank you, and waited)! They even make it easy for you and announce your order # over a loudspeaker so you can sit in the car (with its beautiful A/C) or hold one of their (very few) nearby tables to wait for the food. During our visit, we got the cheeseburger, chili cheese dog, and the BBQ sandwich. A little sampler platter, if you would, because we had never been there! My boyfriend LOVED the BBQ sandwich- he loves vinegar type BBQ! The cheeseburger was EXCELLENT with a little bit of char on the edges which I love along with a good supply of toppings. The chili dog was just magical and straight to the point. No-beans chili that was warm and a teeny but spicy mixed with cheese on a standard hotdog. The hotdog bun also held up to the thick toppings, a plus! I can't believe I am raving about a shack serving semi-greasy food at a rather high-end beach destination but I'm telling you this food was great! This place should be called "Don't Bother," as in don't bother getting burgers here. We were looking for a quick in-and-out place where we could grab some food for ourselves and our kid to eat in our car. We ordered 3 burgers, a N.C. BBQ sandwich, 4 fries and drinks. There was a steady stream of customers, but not especially busy by any means. With this said, it took 25 minutes to get our order...and they messed up two sandwiches. When I went back up, I was told they were out of Cole slaw...which would have been nice to know at Any Point prior to giving me my order. When I reminded them I ordered a plain burger and not two Dune burgers, the kid working the counter told me they were the same thing... [side eye] "Whaaa?? So that means the Dune burger, hamburger and cheeseburger listed on your menu are all the same?" I offered to pay for another plain hamburger, but they said it was taken care of because they made the mistake. So I waited...and waited...and waited...for another 20 minutes! During which time another person I inquired about their order and was told they forgot to put it up on the slide but that they would make it now...*facepalm* After asking when the plain burger would be ready, the kid at the pick up window obviously had no clue about about it (he was the one who said they were "On it!" 20 minutes before), but stammered it was currently being made. So we finally just left. COVID-19 Note: The teenager taking the orders was wearing a mask. However, the cook handing out the food talking to customers, through the open window without a shield, wasn't wearing a mask. Not that he had one and it was pulled down...No mask on his face-what so ever for the 45 minutes we were there. Seriously, I ever recall having such shoddy service. And considering the requirements to wear a mask being enforced for restaurants and shopping, it's not right for food establishment employees to not be wearing them while serving customers. read more

We kind of dedicated our September 2011 OBX trip to places like this or barbecue for lunch and to more seafood and higher end for dinner. We started at Dune Burger for chili dogs and burgers. Dune Burger is a classic beach drive-in, walk-up. Both the chili dog and the hamburgers were good solid items that I would have again. I think we decided we liked the burgers a little better. The chili appeared to be house made with a lot of meat, good flavor and a little heat. The dog itself was fairly ordinary and a better one would enhance the overall chili dog. I always get slaw on them when I can. The style of slaw here was not my favorite. It was very coarse and does not work well on the sandwiches. I would probably drop the slaw next time. The burger was also very good (actually better) with the same toppings. The regular burger is very large so be aware that there is a smaller size for smaller appetites. People who waited on us were friendly, the burger was fine (didn't seem like a frozen patty for sure..seemed freshly made....the ground beef originally could have been frozen, but who knows.... roll super soft, toppings all seemed fresh). This place pisses me off everytime I come. First off, I've been there about 10 times. Everytime regardless of how much or how little we got the food took 20 min plus to come out. When we got the milkshake it was not blended and there was just chunks of fruit on the bottom with ice cream put on top. The burgers take FOREVER to come out. They bascially only sell burgers and fries, though they still manage to take 20 min. A place like this, with a very small menu and little places to sit and wait for food is totally not worth going to as ontop of the long wait times, the food is expensive ( 7 dollars for a burger) and not very good just frozen burgers. Absolutly would not recommend. Will be going to fat boyz from now on because I can get my food in less then 20 minutes there. read more

Went here late at night the first night I arrived. Didn't really go in expecting much but the food turned out to be absolutely great. Service was nice and fast. The burgers were better than a lot of sit down restaurants I've been to, and this combined with the good prices and fast service as well as the great location near many vacation homes made it a really good place to eat at. read more
