I was looking at getting an E85 flex fuel tune for my F80 M3 to finish off the list of mods. After research (and being advised by the tuner) I found it best to get the crank hub pinned as well. I looked into a few shops but after talking to Mark at SSR performance I felt comfortable going with them and I choose wisely. After a few texts and an Email confirmation my appointment was set. I brought the car in and right away was impressed and very comfortable leaving my car . I'm extremely OCD about my M (like most car enthusiast) and have only let two other shops perform work on it but this job was pretty big and needed a professionals touch. Mark explained everything in detail down to the oil used for refill. It was also nice to get the crank hub pinned then rolled over to the their tuning shop for the Flex Fuel tune which I could go into pages on how ridiculous and smooth the power is big thank you to SSR and Carey Jordan for an amazing tune. The car was done early and wa as clean as it was when I dropped it off. When they drove it around to me it sounded great Mark again went over everything handed me the Dyno sheet and warned me about the power and to get used to the car again he wasn't kidding! I thanked him and said "well I'm off today gonna get home get this thing on jack stands for a check" He laughed but said sure thing I'm pretty sure he thought I was kidding. When I got home pulled the belly pan popped the hood and couldn't find anything!! no oil spilled, loose nuts/bolts, every plastic pin in place I mean nothing the engine bay was clean no greasy finger prints all over the parts replaced, they covered the seat, floor and steering wheel with plastic I was amazed . I dropped my car off here for a tune and downpipe installation. I brought in my 2020 BMW X3M for them to work on. I spoke with Shah for the past few weeks prior to coming here. He was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions, even the ones that weren't related to the work they were doing on my car. I was coming from Santa Monica, and I knew that the car was going to be in the shop all day, so I decided to sit in their lounge/waiting area from 9am till 5:30pm. They have some comfy sofas, a massive TV and an Xbox to pass the time, but I brought my own laptop as I still had work to do for the day. The employees there were super friendly. I asked them a bunch of questions and talked to many of them about cars, racing, track days, etc.. At the end of the day when the work was done and I got my car back, I was beyond excited to see what they did. I recently came here due to having a problem with an oil leak and had called in and spoke with John which was very helpful. As you can tell I'm a girl and not much girls know plenty about cars. John had walked me through over the phone on what the process was and was kinda enough to schedule me in even though it was last minute (thank goodness they had an opening). Before I reach out to SSR, I had issues with rough start ups, sometimes shutting off and had to fire it up again, and slight smoke coming from engine bay. I contacted SSR through Instagram and met Manny who introduce me to one of the master techs, Shah. Shah ask me to bring in the car in so he can check it out. So I took my car there, and met another gentleman name, Rod, who took care of me. He brought the car into the shop so one of the master techs take a look at it. The master tech look under the engine and found oil leaking from the valve cover and dripping onto to the downpipe. Prior from this discovery, I took my car to do a valve cover and gasket replacement at Precision Dynamics in February. And at the time it was July. So now SSR is recommending me to redo a replacement for the gasket again since the other was poorly done from Precision. I went ahead and bought a gasket and schedule a date for my service. So days later, I dropped off the car in the morning at 10 and later on at 5, I got a call from Rod who told me about more issues with the valve cover. He said one of the techs had a difficult time taking out the valve cover and when he did took it out, he saw it was cross-threaded. I asked if I could go over there and take a peek at what happen. He showed me 4 of the bolts were cross-threaded. I asked how it may have happen and concluded that they must have not hand tighten first then torque it down. So now I had to leave my car overnight and pay more for valve cover and repairing the threads. Rod understand what I was going through and discounted me about 20% and gave me a few goodies before I left. In conclusion, the valve cover been running smoothly after 2 months since the service. I drive a 2016 BMW 435i with JB4 but my car was reading like 10 check engine lights and wasn't running smoothly. A different shop told me I had to replace my ECU entirely but Mark and his crew helped me fix the problem without having to do so. He guided me through everything step by step. difficult to gauge business quality when you don't end up as a paying customer. what threw me off was lax covid protocols - mechanics without masks in front office, front office staff with uncovered noses, customers without masks, parking lot full of unmasked crowd gawking at Ferraris - like McDonalds, if bathroom is dirty you know exactly whats up with the food prep area. the free diagnostics is a nice gimmick with minimal effort - they did a visual inspection (no obv leaks), tried reading the codes (there were none which is why i brought it to them in the first place), and ran a quick fuel delivery diagnostic to confirm fuel levels are steady. given the difficulty of my OCD problem (occasional code-less misfire at idle), i knew this was a hard problem for any mechanic - so expectations were low. while i appreciated the freebie diagnostic, they did take 3+ hours to do this - i guess free service comes with commensurate service level agreements and attention levels - but then they ignored my repeated status inquiries at hour markers 2, 2:30, 2:45, and 3. Once diagnostic was completed, attempt was made to upsell me for a $500 engine compression test - which would be a right move if engine had misfire under load - not at idle at a stop light. So - not quite a zero stars, but certainly not the fives they've been fetching. your mileage will vary - for your problems will be easier to diagnose and service is probably quite more attentive for paying customers. me? i wont be back for any service here - as I didn't appreciate the lax protocols (imagine whats going on the shop floor then), lack of status response (if it takes 4 inquiries just to get an eta on completion - what happens when real work is required), and a valueless upsell (imagine the cost of misdiagnosing a real problem and throwing off a ton of unnecessary expenditure based on such misdiagnosis). read more
