Stopped in on a Saturday night. Was very excited to try this place due to the numerous 4 and 5 star reviews. The service was very friendly and attentive. We always had something to drink. The place itself seemed a little dusty and the table cloth had a stain on it. The food took a while to come out and was okay. The sauces were a little watery as some people have noted in their reviews. The flavors were good, but not great. I think my favorite was the chicken korma, but it was nothing to write home about. I appreciated that all the entrees came with rice and it was relatively affordable. Large restaurant with lots of seating. Went here on a weekday for dinner and there was no wait. Started off with the vegetable samosas (5/5): those were good! Really crispy and the filling was flavorful. They gave a green sauce (don't remember what it's made of but more veggie tasting) and a tamarind sauce with it, and the tamarind sauce paired with it well. Garlic Naan (5/5): great naan. Crispy and flavorful. 4 pieces per serving and they were as long as my hand. Paneer Tikka Masala (3/5): this tikka masala didn't wow me. I've had paneer at other locations in SoCal and I think those are a bit better because the consistency of the cheese is more uniform? This paneer reminded me of tofu, which might be how paneer is supposed to be like, but I've tried a different paneer that is less airy that I prefer. Karahi Tandoori Chicken Saag (4/5) was really yummy. Spinach base curry and the chicken was really soft and not dry at all. Will probably order this again next time! Chicken Biryani (5/5): this was so good!! So many spices in this dish which blended well together. We also got the yogurt sauce for this and that elevated my every bite. Would recommend this. This used to be my favorite lunch buffet. I was deeply saddened when covid stopped it. I went back because I heard the buffet reopened. It is a shadow of what it was. There are few selections. The food was not as seasoned as it was. The only rice available is white rice. I will not be going back. It isn't bad. It is just meh. I will start hunting again for my new favorite. $30.00 for this? May 30, 2024 I placed an order of chicken tiki masala and 2 orders of naan for pick up. I arrived and the order was packed and ready, I was then presented with the bill of $25.97. I asked why so much, the online menu had different prices. I was told the prices had increased but the website never update and the online prices would not be honored. Not only is this misleading, it is the illegal practice of False Advertising. As I handed over my cash of $30.00 I was told the employee didn't have a key to the cash register and could not give change back. Essentially receiving a $4.00 tip on food already over charged. I used to love this lunch spot, but the shady, illegal, and greedy customer interactions have me marking this place off my list. Never again. Expensive, food is watery, buffet has less to choose from than other Indian restaurants. They say it's North Indian style. I wouldn't know what that is supposed to be. However I prefer the other style. This restaurant is great for those who like soupy Indian food that is closer to American flavors versus the spicy authentic flavors. Came here since I happen to be in the area and i'm a sucker for some SPICY vindaloo. I had never been here and thought i'd try it. Ordered level 5 spicy vindaloo, cheese naan, tandoori fish and basmati rice. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Only a few points for potential improvement: Vindaloo could be spicier but I just have a high tolerance so this is subjective. Service was good in terms of being polite and courteous but it was a teensy bit slow. Cheese naan was good but didn't have a lot of cheese, it was somewhat sporadic. Last thing is that the tandoori fish was kind of under seasoned and could use more flavor. Overall still 5 stars as the meal and service as a whole were awesome. Ambiance could use a Spruce to make it more themed but not bad! read more

Believe the hype. My wife and I have been going to New India Gate since 2020 for takeout. You won't find better authentic Indian food in the valley. We drive past about 5 other Indian spots just to get here. It's that good. The couple times I've eaten in, the service was attentive and quick. They even have a couple small TVs and will play any game that's on at the moment. Tikka Masala is my go to and it's outta this world - do yourself a favor and give these guys a try. read more

This is the Northern style Indian restaurant so they don't have some Southern dishes like Dosa. The service is wonderful as waiters were patient and happy to go over the dishes for us. It was dark, quiet and clean inside. We ordered the Lamb Byriani but didn't like it much because the rice was soggy and not much flavorful. Love this place! We just don't get here often enough. Came at 12 on a Thursday. Only about 4 other tables here. Sat immediately and quickly attended. The food is freshly cooked and done in record time. Everything was delicious. Word to the wise though, the heat index is 1-5. We have cut back on heat because of medical recommendation, so I think we are more sensitive. Love it. Just can't any more. But we got a level 2 and my lips are still heated. Came here to satisfy my craving for Indian food. So glad I stopped by. The atmosphere and even the front doors set you up for a truly special experience. The staff is so friendly right upon walking in to the restaurant. The menu is full of classic staples and it's so hard to choose. Started with my fav appetizer, veggie samosas. Both of them were perfectly golden brown an filled with tasty fillings of potato and peas. The chutneys were the freshest I've ever had. Got the lamb korma for the meal which was really tasty. I'm used to the Shari korma which has pa err and raisins with cashews which I really miss but this was very good and the lamb was so tender. Finally, the paneer naan which was a first for me. I really enjoyed the creamy texture of the paneer with the naan bread. The buttery outside and the perfectly baked naan was a perfect complement to my lamb dish. Will definitely be back. read more

The food is excellent, the service is excellent but the portion of the protein to the ratio of rice and sauce to the $14-$15 dollar price is unfortunately why I am rating this place down to a 3 star. The food was good but a $100 bill and we walkout and headed over to grab a bk burger because the majority of us were still hungry. Mine was creamy and buttery with tender chicken and jasmine rice. We also ordered garlic naan bread because: bread! And it pairs well in the sauce. The tandoori chicken was tangy and savory - as were the peppers and onions served with the dish. The meat tasted like it was bbq'd all day in a smoker. Really good - highly recommend and those two dishes and sides came to about $50. It started getting full as we ate - Friday night. If you like Indian it's definitely worth the try. We hadn't had Indian since moving to the valley a few years ago, and this spot popped up on an Eater list of top Indian spots. It was a great find! We dined in for lunch with our two kids, ages 5 and 8. There's plenty of booths and tables to choose from, and it wasn't too crowded at 1:00 on a Friday. The buffet looked good, but not a huge variety so we opted to order off the menu. Everything we got was great, but the family favorite was the chicken makhni. We ordered it mainly for the kids to have something without spice, but we all devoured it. We also had the lamb achari and the lamb/chicken biryani. I can be a little picky about lamb, but this was really tender and tasty. And of course we got garlic naan - and added a second order halfway through! Service was great and the kids are already asking to go back - which we definitely will! read more

I was thrilled to find an Indian restaurant with such great reviews and had high hopes. First off I noticed they had an Open Table option for reservations and wasn't sure how busy this was on weekends (figured why not because you usually get 100 points per reservation). When we got to the restaurant no one is there to greet us and finally we were told to pick any seat. When our waiter came I asked if he could check us in for our reservation and he told us not to do reservations - frustrating. Next our waiter asked if we wanted butter or garlic naan (it seemed like it was complimentary, but we later found out it was billed on the receipt). According to other reviewers papadam is complimentary, but never received that so maybe it's selective. We ordered fish pakora which was probably the best of the group and had to ask for sauce to go with it. Not sure why it doesn't come at the same time as the meal. We also ordered a paneer dish, a chickpea and chicken dish. The dishes were ok but nothing worth recommending or going back for (sadly I've had better out of the frozen aisle of Trader Joe's). The rice was mediocre and the paratha a huge disappointment. I'm used to the flaky almost croissant like ones and these were like a crisped up buttered tortilla (not great for the sauce I was hoping to soak up). I look forward to good fresh hot naan. The problem here is the naan arrived 15 minutes before the food. So by the time the dishes with the sauce came it was cold and hard (not exactly what I was craving). Service was a bit to be desired. After looking at the buffet (which sounds like a good idea for the price) we ended up ordering off the menu instead. Most of the items on the buffet looked like they had been sitting far too long and all the protein picked off by other patrons. If you have a credit card that requires verification by chip and not swiping don't go here. It won't go through. We had to scramble to pay in cash unexpectedly. Receipts are not given automatically, and you have to ask for them, also it will just show what was ordered not paid, so don't expect to get anything officially especially if you need it for a business expense. I really wanted to love this place, but not only do I have no desire to go back, I would sadly recommend going to Trader Joe's frozen aisle first. Maybe it was an off day for this place, but I see no reason to go out of my way again for such a disappointing visit. read more

My wife and I stopped in for the lunch buffet and what an experience it was! The restaurant is nice and cheery, and super clean. The staff were very attentive, taking the time to explain the various dishes to us. There were more than enough staff members making sure that everybody had plenty of drinks and anything else they needed, and as soon as we set an empty dish aside it was cleared off the table immediately high is unique nowadays. And the food, oh God the food! It was almost a religious experience! We tried everything at the buffet, and I mean everything! Each dish was flavored to perfection without being overly spiced, and by the time we walked out I had to loosen my belt. It's now 6 hours later and I am still full. I wonder if tomorrow is too soon to go back. I may have to risk it. read more
