Both people walked by our table multiple times no nothing, no comments, no "hey, how is everything," nothing. I thought this place would be a great place that people would come out and watch football, or any sport, but I can see why it was empty. Terrible service, horrific prices. I'm only bumping the stars up to two because the lemon pepper wings were actually pretty good. We were going to order more, but after getting the initial bill we paid and walked across the street to Tommy's for an actual breakfast. Buyers beware, cool concept that has potential, but all around executed terribly.

The hollandaise, which I imagine is made in house was also very flavorful. All of the flavors mixed well, it's a wonder I ordered it two days straight. The funny thing is my wife was eyeballing the same thing on the menu but agreed to order two different other dishes each day. The first day was the German hashbrowns and eggs. Out of this world. Grilled onions and white cheese over hashbrowns and eggs. The only thing that we weren't satisfied with was the side of gravy(which we like to try at all the breakfast places), which was plain and wasn't bad, but we at that point were expecting more just because of the flavor of the other dishes. The second day my wife ordered the Miss Swiss just because she wanted asparagus too in her breakfast. Again, packed full of flavors. Asparagus, mushrooms, garlic. Great stuff. Very dry like they were days old frozen sausage from a dollar store. Best way I can describe them. They are NOT fresh in any way. They were like cutting a piece of jerky that was chewy. So make sure you do not order sausage here. Also hope you get refills. If you are just going for eggs, hashbrowns, and toast they will not disappoint. Just do not get thirsty.

Being a tavern they offer only beer and wine -- no hard liquor. Which leads me to my next observation: The clientelle is mainly non-redneck OSU students (ones you can actually carry on a conversation with), hippies, hipsters, writers and Hewlett-Packward employees. The place has also been called "the closest thing to a gay bar Corvallis has", even if it is only lesbians making up their GLBT clientelle. Once in a long while you will run into a gay guy, but he's usually only visiting Corvallis, i.e. visiting his parents. This is because most of the gay males in Corvallis who are 21 and older drive to Eugene or Portland on the weekend out of fear of being seen in public in Corvallis with their gay friends and being perceived as gay (you guys know who you are). Getting back on-topic... Picnic tables outside covered by an overhang offer haven to smokers and there are two pool tables upstairs plus pinball. Squirrels is a fairly famous place and has been open in the same spot since 1974, prior to which it was a bank, in fact the kitchen is built inside the old vault! The building has a lot of character. Its cheaper to go with a friend or two and get buy pitcher of beer because there's a price break. The food is good! But plan ahead, as they only take cash, no credit cards. They do enough business to make plastic an option if they wanted, but its their way of say 'damn the man', I guess. And on that note, they also close fairly early, probably to avoid Peacock Tavern people coming in. read more

Look, the key to making good food is to start with fresh ingredients. Any bozo can slap a frozen beef puck on a griddle and dump some frozen potatoes into a fryer, and you'll end up with some basic food. On the other hand if you want good food that satisfies the palate, the soul, and the belly, you need to do something different. Squirrels uses fresh beef and fresh potatoes. The result is the best burger in town without question! The fries are hand cut with the skins on and are better than any frozen fries anywhere. The beer selections are good and the ambiance screams 'locals bar.' Great place to play pool and kick back at the end of the workday. read more
