We've been enjoying this legendary institution for some time. This weekend we ran into exceptionally lousy service. A cook dressed all in black refused to leave onions off a burger "the menu says it comes with all this on it," so, thank you for forcing us remove and waste food. (Never been a problem before) This was in front of our out of town guest, who we of course took to Squirrels as one of our fav places, and when she asked the dude for suggestions about sides, she got "I don't give suggestions, you order what you want." So she said, fine, chips, and then watched with envy as order after order of curly fries passed by. I know this is not the norm here; I hope this can be addressed. read more

We went here a while back before the civil war basketball game. I would say that the food and service (which was kind of slow) deserves 3 stars. The atmosphere is very cool though, lots of personality. I did give it an extra star because the gentlemen behind the bar and in the kitchen were serving people before the restaurant was technically open, which was nice. read more

Tater tots, salad that actually contains a variety of fresh vegetables other than lettuce and tomatoes, great microbrews, and two relatively clean pool tables with ample space to play... can't get much better than that. Just remember to bring cash, or be ready to pay ATM fees. (There is an ATM near the entrance.) read more

A nice hometown bar. Julian (Miscreants forever!), the bar tender, has been here forever and is always really nice. The food here is decent and really cheap. I really can't think of anything bad to say. Get the Squirrel Burger! read more

Excellent, comfortable neighborhood bar, good service, better than average food, and a great local beer selection! Pool tables upstairs that are only 75 cents and even a sit-down style Ms. Pac-Man machine! The outdoor seating is covered for enjoying your beer and a smoke during the rain. It will definitely be a regular watering hole for me. read more

The only reason I gave this place three stars instead of four was because the staff seemed bit unwelcoming, but that could have been that it was late on a Tuesday and they all were looking for it to be closing time already. read more

One of the best places in town to just chill out, a place to find an old friend or make a new one. Looking for a contractor? That's probably five or six sitting at the table next to you. "THE" Corvallis Downtown Learning Center: A person can learn a lot about a lot of things from the clientele that has frequented this friendly, welcoming establishment since the '70's. The first thing a person is likely to learn is whether it is their kind of place by the framed "cannabis" policy hanging on the upstairs wall. Squirrel, the owner, has played a key role in helping the ?city? through some of its many growing phases throughout the years. About the only left for Squirrel to do to improve the city is serve as Mayor. To expedite the process, I propose from this point on everyone just call him: "Mayor." Or "Mayor Squirrel", if you so desire. read more

This is my old haunt and still feels the same even though I don't drink anymore. Its a Corvallis classic with an always stellar staff, kitchen, and mix of locals. Great story on how they got their massive hand carved bar backdrop if you belly up. Food is solid pub grub and you must upgrade to curly fries if getting a burger. Pool and Mrs PAC Man upstairs completes the deal. Cash only! read more

I will never enter this establishment again as they have poor service and a limited food and beer menu. Also they are cash only if you are interested and traveling with a card. If you are looking for good service and a fantastic beer and food menu go to basically anywhere else. I recommend Caves, but anywhere will have you covered expect Squirrels. read more

Great burgers, and BLT is best in town, some decent handles for the draft beers, and a uniquely Corvallis atmosphere.

Squirrel's is a wonderful bar. Their staff alone does an amazing job with customer service, and making sure you are taken care of. Cameron did a great job of going above and beyond for his customers. He helped a young lady find a cab home who was having a distressful evening, and catered to the various customers at the bar with different beer samples. The live music was a great experience for a night out, and the staff as a whole were very kind. Between the pool and video games, Squirrel's certainly knows how to rock and roll! I lived in Corvegas for 2 years, and can confidently say Squirrels is my favorite place in Corvallis. Great beer selection (and basic spirits too, they're not on the chalkboard but you can ask for your poison of choice), delicious burgers and tots, fooseball, pool, arcade games, TVs downstairs to catch a game... there's something for everyone. I've eaten there twice, had a hamburger and cheesburger. Wow, it was real meat, not that pre-made patty stuff. The burger was excellent. Be forwarned, you can feel your heart slow down with every bite of the greasy yet tasty burger. On both occasions service was slow, and the bench seats are terribly uncomfortable. read more

Only beers and wine, though the beer selection is great. Great atmosphere. Feels very homey, if sometimes crowded. Nice outdoor seating for Corvallis. I LOVE playing shows here. The stage is weird and tiny, located halfway between the first and second floors, but that's why it's fun. Your band is crammed together, and people are watching you from below and above as well as right next to you since the stage is right off the stairs. I've only had the vegetarian options there, but they're good bar food. They have sun burgers from nearly normals, which go good with their vegetarian chili and tator tots. Really, anyone who serves tator tots gets a bonus star from me. =] read more

One male bartender (wears a tacky silver chain) sucks super bad and is rude and annoying but otherwise the staff is wonderful. Fantastic local bar. Friend of mine's Dad knew Squirrel from way back in the day (he actually used to own the bar before it was Squirrel's). Very laid back scene, you won't find ANY frat boys or many college students for that matter. Nice staff, they always changed the channel to a specific game if I asked, very courteous. The food is really cheap and good too, lots of beers on tap. Be warned, this bar is CASH ONLY, and they don't have waiters/waitresses. You order from the bar/kitchen and they bring it to your table. They also have the full size glass pitchers, so you never get gypped like you do at most bars these days. Live music most nights, pool, video games, TVs...what more do you need? read more

Their BLT is perhaps the best I've ever had (I can't remember better so that's probably a good sign) and once you've been there a few times, you're a regular and they tend to remember your order before you even finish sitting down. There's only one or maybe two waitresses/waiters, so the wait time can be a bit long, but for a small place, it's really not bad, and that just gives you extra time to browse their incredibly long beer menu. Another reason I didn't give this place five stars is because sometimes it seems like the people working there are tired, overworked, or both, which makes me feel a little under-appreciated, but really, that's just because I'm a super bubbly gal! read more

Love. The only, only ONLY criticism I could ever have of squirrels is that the burger buns are kinda squishy, but do seem oddly appropriate. I don't know what they put int that zingy mayo they put on the burgers - wasabi? - but it's great. perfect. Yum. This place is cozy and comfortable and even though the decor hasn't changed in probably 20 years, it is really clean and tidy. Sure, it looks like a dive, it's loud and brash........food looked great, I'd already eaten, so I didn't try any. Very good selection of beers, super friendly waitstaff, and a really great feel. Mixed crowd, both young and middle aged, this is exactly how a working class, blue collar dive should feel, look, sound and smell like......I can only assume the folks who didn't like this place are miserable, bitter people who like nothing other than themselves. We love the food. The burgers are the best in town, and set a high bar for any burger anywhere. Love that you can get a burger basket with salad, almost no one does that - but the fries are hand cut in the kitchen, and resisting them is almost impossible. I've never heard a complaint about the food from anyone, and about everyone in town has eaten here. We don't drink - no kidding! - but love coming here. A friendly atmosphere, everyone talks to whomever - sort of a Corvallis version of Cheers. The nightly specials are worth it - I spent my birthday here just because of my favorite. They found a place for 12 of us, and we had a great time. It's a place to drop by any time of the day or night and eat or drink or both and settle in for a pleasant time. Definitely not quiet, but you can talk at the tables and be heard. read more

Every town needs a cozy place like this! While the burgers aren't my very favorite (if only because I find the buns mushy), the genuinely friendly atmosphere and tasty beers make up for that. As has been noted here, owner Greg Squirrel is a great guy. He doesn't know me as more than a face in the crowd, yet always greets me with a sincere smile. Everyone here is friendly, service is responsive, and the light coming in from big windows makes this a nice place for casual lunch with friends. read more
