Our favorite place to go as we travel from Orlando to the beach for a day or for the weekend. We walked out through the beautiful old wooden bar, out onto the sand and the river. Put our feet in the sand and order cocktails and food. The views are incredible, sometimes we see dolphin, and of course we see pelicans and sea gulls. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the cocoa Beach Restaurant. When we arrived we were told there was a wait. We sat at the bar and we were served our drinks promptly and the bartender was very professional and prompt. We went to our table and our waiter Craig was very attentive and accommodating his service was SUPERB. The music was vining and the view was awesome, the food was excellent. Dated, ugly furniture and dim lights. If you've ever seen Hedwig and the Angry Inch... think Bilgewater's but without the questionable allure of a German drag queen doing punk rock. No one greeted us for three or four minutes and when she did, we were told to go out back and seat ourselves. K. The riverside deck decor is nice but that's where the good ends. After we seated ourselves, it took about ten minutes for a menu. The font on the menu is difficult to read... like "worse than Comic Sans" difficult. Our server (who shall remain nameless) was slow with drinks, and everything else. We spilled a glass of water on the table and were passed by three different servers, none of whom offered a rag or any other help to clean the water. Now to the food. We ordered the boneless buffalo wings with Jamaican jerk bbq sauce. The sauce was tasty, but a little hot for my wife. No problem, more for me. The "wings" were more like diced chicken with no breading and a smear of sauce. Not a problem but also not wings. Also, charging $0.99 extra for ranch or blue cheese is just plain cheap. The bread tasted good but was cold. If we had known bread was coming (like when we sat down or got menus) we might have skipped the $10 appetizer. For dinner the kid ordered a grilled cheese, my wife got a chicken Caesar wrap, and I ordered the grilled Mahi-Mahi. I listed those in order of which was best. The chicken Caesar wrap had lime in the dressing for some inconceivable reason. Lime and Caesar do not go together. Ever. At all. Eggy, umami emulsions and citrus are a bad mix. The Mahi was allegedly served in a honey lime sauce and over cooked to the point where I considered adding ketchup. Yes, you read that right. Not a hard fish to cook but there you go. Grilled to the point of burned and chewy. The veggies on the side weren't bad but the portion could have been better. Refills (we drank water) and service were unbearably slow. We were at the restaurant for over two hours, and waited before and after our meal at least 30 minutes for food and the check. The only reason they earned the second star was for allowing us to move in out of the rain to a more interior table. You've been warned. read more

My wife and I went here with our 2 kids on Friday the 5th. This was our first time coming to Squid Lips in Cocoa Beach. When you first arrive, check out the koi pond in the front, the kids really enjoyed feeding them from food dispenser (25¢) Our server Ariana was very attentive and the service was great. We ordered the blue cheese chips and the cracked conch for appetizers, both were really good. My wife ordered the Stuffed Flounder which was awesome. My son had the Caribbean spiced Red fish with honey lime that he really enjoyed. I had the Islamorada Red Fish, which came with a little of the crab/lobster stuffing on top. I will probably get the crab cakes next time because that stuffing (same as they use for the crab cakes) was amazing. The General manager Jason really made our day when he brought out some of their amazing homemade Banana Pudding (probably one of the best we've ever tried). After we ate, we took a walk outside on the dock, checked out the nice view and on the way back fed the catfish from another dispenser (25¢)(there were hundreds, pretty crazy to watch). They have live music playing later in the afternoon, so next time we'll try to make it out there when that is going on. On a Monday, this place had a one man guitar man and a decent crowd. The bar tender was great and worked hard to make sure I had exactly what I ordered, and offered suggestions when asked. I had the stuffed sole. Fish were billed as their specialty, and their meals were geared to the masses. The lady sitting down the bar from me returned her salmon because it wasn't pink enough. So, yeah, that's the crowd they're working to please. So it was good but nothing to write home about. If I end up at cocoa beach on a Monday again, I probably would go back and do it again. This place is beautiful, outside... Inside is underwhelming. Got oysters on the halfshell, and raw clams... Both were great! Tasted so much like the sea in a good way! Ordered the grilled shrimp with double veggies... Shrimp was good, but the veggies were wet and bland. My sister got the fish tacos and said they were great. Kids fish fingers were also good according to my 11 year old. Everyone else that I was with really enjoyed their meals. We Have been anticipating your new Cocoa Beach location for many weeks now, as we have frequented your other two locations and always have had a great experience. We live less than a mile away and could easily go by boat to the new location so we have really been looking forward to a new local spot. My co workers and I met there on Tuesday after work. I arrived first, found a spot and ordered a drink and put in an order of 6 oysters as I had seen on the happy hour special on the table. Before I could get menus, the waitress arrived with my drink and asked if I could cash out. I told her I had a few more people joining me, could she possibly bring menus and transfer the tab. She replied, "it will be easier if you just cash out." I agreed and gave her my card. She brought back the bill for me to sign (no menus). And I questioned the Oysters costing $9.99 as the special on the table read .89 She said the special was not available even though it was 5:30 on a Tuesday. Confused, I asked to speak with the manager. The manager Jason, came up and said, "if you'd read the sign it says 'when available'" they are not available. Still confused, I said they were just brought out to me. They seem available? He very smugly told me that they are not available at that price because they are not in season and that the special will likely not be available till summer. (Still confused because oysters are not in season during the summer) He said we have already ran your credit card, do you really want me to void this and rerun your card again for a few dollars different. Well, yes I do. So he said, " I will do it this time as a courtesy but Just So You Know the sign says 'when available'. Just So You Know, I am giving customer feedback and this advertisement is a bit deceiving. "Well I've worked at our two other locations and we have been doing it like this for years, It's NOT going to change, and I've never heard of anyone else being confused" My coworkers arrived at this point and I decided to let it go. I'm not one to complain or ever have I written a bad review before, but his rudeness was unsettling. Our new waitress was great (jeanna)I think. My two friends ordered shrimp baskets, one came out almost 45 minutes after the other. Jeanna was apologetic and incredibly on top of things other than the delay. Two more friends join. I left, later to find out that next order placed came out with a plastic wrapper. I didn't hear the plastic wrapper story until the next day. They said the manager did comp the meal served with the plastic inside, however he never came by the table or offered any apology. I have still not seen my voided receipt, I will check my bill to verify I was not charged twice, and will follow up. The whole experience was very disheartening. We expected a few bumps since this is a new business and within the first week, but management attitude It will likely be a long time before we give this place a second change. read more

I'm really struggling with this review. What I'm about to write is going to appear like I'm ragging unnecessarily on Squid Lips. I promise you, really promise, everything I'm about to say is true. First, I'm not sure how our experience could've been worse - well maybe if our server brought us a basket of hot steaming seagull crap instead of the dinners we were served... It's a free-for-all on the outdoor seating, so you really need to stalk the diners if you don't arrive early. The buzz about the Cocoa Beach location is all about the sunsets, so the outdoor seating is at a premium. Here's a suggestion Squid Lips: use a hostess to seat outdoor diners. It's creepy to be forced to circulate around the deck ready to pounce on a table the second its diners begin to leave. Saw this happening time and time again during our visit. We got a table on the south side of the outdoor deck. Because seating is at such a premium before sunset, we took what we could get. Seemed like a great location. We soon noticed that it smelled really bad. We thought we might "get used to it" but that never happened. We finally looked over the edge of the deck railing to see if we could determine the origin of the smell and we were surprised to observe dozens of dead and decomposing fish floating literally just a few feet from where we were seated. We knew there was a fish kill on the river, but there's no excuse for the manager not removing the rotting fish near the outdoor dining area. This would have been relatively simple to do. I ordered the fried shrimp basket. It arrived containing only 4 (very) soggy shrimp and a handful of fries. I thought I may have accidentally been served a kid's meal, but when the bill arrived I was charged $12.99. If I learned that the shrimp was cooked hours earlier and sat under a warming light, I wouldn't be a bit surprised. My wife ordered fish and chips. It was under cooked and seemed to be straight from the frozen foods aisle at Publix. She didn't finish her dinner. My niece reported that her baja fish tacos were good, but they were served in what appeared to be Old El Paso hard taco shells. I think she was just being polite since she was visiting. This was absolutely the worst food we've ever been served in the Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area. With 4 beers and a coconut shrimp appetizer, our bill came to just under $60.00. Not close to a fair exchange of money for food. The service was equally bad, but I don't want to bag on our server. Let's just say that the level of service matched the quality of our dining experience. Do not dine here. You've been fairly warned. If you do go, just sit at the bar and enjoy the sunset. I wish there were negative stars. I really did not want to give this place any more energy than I already have, though it is important for me to get this out of my system. This was the worst experience I have encountered at any place of business and this was by the so-called "manager". After 2+ months of social distancing and staying home, my parents offered to watch our young daughter for the night. This was my first date night with my husband in some time. Being from Tampa, we like to visit Cocoa Beach on occasion. On our first and previous visit to Squid Lips, my husband really enjoyed the waterfront view and thought it would be nice to catch the sunset, if possible. We took an Uber to the restaurant as we were anticipating a cocktail with the sunset. When we arrived at 7:20pm the hostesses seemed nice, but were quick to tell us they were no longer seating patrons as they close at 9:00pm...(?) Before we even had a chance to respond, a loud voice from behind gruffly repeats the same, but more hostile. As if we were a burden to even have come in. His tone and demeanor were quite alarming. We just left, no sense in reasoning with that behavior. We waited outside of the restaurant for another Uber confused by what just happened - there was still 1 hour and 40 mins before they closed and what manager speaks to customers that way? Regardless, we didn't want to let it ruin our night. Suddenly, the manager reappears shortly after and give my husband a strange stare as if he is in his way. I was on the outside bench and my husband across on the railing as we waited for the Uber. The manager yells you're not 6 feet apart!! I was in total disbelief, we were not even in the restaurant and waiting outside for a ride to leave since we were basically kicked out! He then goes on to say, "and you don't have masks on!" (What??? Why would we have masks on when we are outside and it's just my husband and I?) I asked if he was the manager to which he replied "Yes". I asked his name and he said "Michael". I reminded him that he, being a worker and manager was not even wearing a mask. To which he says "I've been cleared!!!!" (Any other eating establishment, has the staff wearing masks.) It was the most outrageous customer experience I have encountered and this was by a manager. He was holding a bag of food in his hand and rushing to his vehicle. It seemed that was the reason he wanted to close early as he just wanted to leave. Never, will I return to this restaurant and I will be certain to relay this experience to any/all that consider going. Horrible management. read more

Great atmosphere and beautiful location. The food was delicious. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it was a very generous portion and was cooked perfectly. I ordered the large portion of coconut shrimp and it was hands down the best coconut shrimp I've had in years. My husband had the fried shrimp basket and he said it was very good as well. We were drawn in by the name... (Say squid lips 5 times fast and see if YOU don't want to go there...). We got there after a nice afternoon at the beach, and their bathroom was a corrective experience after visiting a competing tiki bar down the street for lunch (begins with M and rhymes with combos). The hostess was kind and easy going and our server Jessica was awesome! We had coconut shrimp, fish dip, salads and fish sandwiches. We initially laughed at the crackers that came with the smoked fish dip but pretty soon we were asking for more and had to stop ourselves from licking the bowl. The blackened grouper was outrageously good and the coconut shrimp were just the right amount of coconut breading with a fantasticly paired orange marmalade. Jessica's service was stellar and she even recommended a refreshing 1/2 and 1/2 pineapple cider/lager combo that perfectly cooled us in the hot sun. First the positive. The location is great, right on the Banana River and I would imagine the sunset is amazing here. They were finally able to open their deck, so when Fishlips at the Port was too crowded, we decided to give the place a try. The staff was friendly and gave us a table with a view, as it was raining and we didn't want to sit outside. Now the negative. We went at around 4 PM, and it was not crowded at all, but the service was agonizingly slow. I'm not sure why because there seemed to be plenty of employees milling about. We ordered three different dishes and an appetizer. The teriyaki skewers were overcooked and reminiscent of black charcoal and there were only two of them. The Mahi, the Mahi Reuben and the fish and chips all suffered from the same problem. Over-cooked and dry. The fish and chips were virtually tasteless. Even that wouldn't have been enough to send me to Yelp to write a negative review (as I have never written one before!) except that it was also seriously over-priced for the quality. $65 dollars and we didn't even have drinks. Food, service and location were excellent! Hillary, our server, was joyful and never kept us waiting. Even when they mixed up my order a bit by bringing me fries instead of coleslaw, Hillarys response was "yep, you enjoy those fries and we will round out your order with coleslaw." Food was truly delicious. The crab and lobster cake had big chunks of both. The clams were some of the best I ever had! The only downside was finding a seat. The patio is seat yourself, and it was full when we go there. After walking around looking for a table, about 12 new people came looking for spots as well. Twice a table was swiped from us-- it actually felt a bit like the hunger games. A quick fix could be keeping a chalk board that groups write their name and party size as they come in, to try to keep some order. I'd make a point to go back. Bartender asked for drink order , then made drinks for Others for 10 min and asked again for drink order. Got a table 15 mins from entering . Friends showed waited over 15 minutes more. No one showed up once seated for at least 15 minutes. We all 4 gave up and walked out. Worst service in Cocoa Beach of any restaurant been too. This place wasn't bad but it's got a ways to go. Nice balcony with a nice view but it's too enclosed. All these tables but a plastic ceiling that makes you literally bake. No fans quite yet but they're in the process of installing, which will make a HUGE difference. With that being said, I like his location more then the other location. The service was friendly and on point for being newly opened. The food was not bad, I thought the best thing was the crunchy fish fingers. Did not like that all the fish options start out as a farmed fish unless you upgrade to something else, like mahi. If I'm beachside, I want fresh seafood, right? It's right on the ocean, there was a live band, it was cool this evening with a nice breeze off the ocean, & the food was amazing! But our server was extremely slow! I asked 3 times to have the shade put down because the sun was blinding me but it NEVER was done! It took us FOREVER to get our check! & when we did he messed it up & then it took him 2 different time to get it corrected with more than 15 minutes between each attempt!! Ridiculous!!! Pretty view, unfortunately the smell of B.O. was extremely strong. The music was only playing on one side of the deck. Not enough fans , and it was battle of the fly's... then there was the food, $21.99 for 6 over cooked shrimp (last two still had pieces of shell on them), a bowl of over steamed vegetables and under cooked fry's. $10.99 for a burger patty (no bun) with a piece of cheese and under cooked fry's .25 cent for a little pickle spear, and $8.99 for bland queso dip with a side of stale chips :0( so the $7.00 draft beer served in maybe a 10oz plastic cup isn't enough to wash this bad taste out of your mouth.
