Great food , great people, nice and Cozy little diner in the middle of (or is it just outside of?) downtown kennebunk. They're open year round except for a few weekends like thanksgiving, Xmas and sometime in march. Don't miss it.

The options that stood out to us were the French toast and hash browns. The home fries were a bit under, so maybe request extra crispy? As soon as we sat down, coffee was offered (just keep in mind, if you get another drink you still have to pay for the coffee as it is not included). The wait time we were given was extremely off; Instead of a 30 minute wait, it was a little more than an hour, which was disappointing. I feel like this breakfast spot may be a little over hyped, more touristy than a local spot. It may have been an off day, but there wasn't much to remember.

Decadent dining from a delightful diner, Squaretoe's earned it's five star rating due to the welcoming and accommodating staff, the timely service, and the above average breakfast fare. We inadvertently arrived an hour before closing time and the place was full. Just to make sure I wasn't gonna be "that guy" I checked with the lady at the door to make sure we had time to eat and she says "Oh yeah! Of course, as long as you don't mind waiting 5 minutes or so??" I assured her we didn't and asked if we'd have time to eat without them closing late; "Hey, sweetly, we ain't gonna cut ya off!" Perfect. So after a short wait time we sat down at a table for two and had ice cold drinks and a mug of coffee within seconds. The menu was straightforward and not too crowded so it didn't take long to decide what to order. Without hesitation I opted for the Lobster Benedict; "When in Main...", right? After waiting for what felt like an eternity (I was starving and my wife assured me it had only been 7 or 8 minutes, AND the place WAS full) our food arrived. My wife claims that when my eyes landed on my plate my face lit up like a kid on Christmas. I believe it because damn, it looked immaculate. Tasted better than it looked! The perfectly poached egg atop fresh steamed chunks, and I mean CHUNKS, of lobster, smothered in hollandaise sauce all piled on a toasted English muffin set my tastebuds into overdrive. Maybe not, but this breakfast dish looked as New England to me as biscuits and gravy with a side order of ammo is to the southern U.S. And the home fries? Crispy on the outside and smooth as butter on the inside. A side dish that almost tasted as good as the main course and that's hard to do. The place was clean with overly satisfactory service and a fairly low rumble of murmur from the other patrons. Overall an exceptional dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone in the area.

We stopped in after having no luck at the local bakery. Glad we did! We were all pleasantly surprised how good this place was. No frills, no fuss- just low key, good food. The blueberry pancakes were huge and flavorful. Service was slow, but they were busy. We didn't mind since we weren't in a rush. The hostess was friendly and quick to greet us. The inside is small and a bit noisy, but I like to think of it as cozy!

A fantastic breakfast stop just beyond (or before, depending on your direction of travel) downtown Kennebunk. The corned beef hash is the star attraction here, and the Irish Omelette is filled with it. Not a place to dawdle after breakfast because they want to turn the tables over to serve the big crowds.

For our food, the meat pie was so flavorful and fresh. My mom loved her eggs Benedict, and we split a blueberry pancake which was delicious. The homemade whipped cream and real maple syrup really topped it off great. I NEED to try the blueberry French toast or crepes so we will be back!! My only complaint was how busy it was. We made a reservation and we weren't seated until around 20 minutes after that time slot. Not a big deal, but there's really no good place to stand and we constantly we were in the way of other guests/servers. Anyone trying to walk in quickly left after hearing it was a 1.5 hour wait for a table so reservations are a MUST. We came on a weekend in October. Additionally, the room we were seated in was only heated by one small heater so it was pretty chilly. But totally worth it for the food! Staff was also very attentive and friendly despite how busy it was.

Very clear to all customers. we had a waitress named Tracy and she was like a gal on steroids. Tracy was kind but notably fast as lightning but we never felt rushed. I am very curious at the type of training they get but they are FANTASTIC. Our waiter Tristan was great, very patient, went over to explain every dish and how it was prepared. Coffee and tea was served within 2 minutes, followed by complimentary dishes from the kitchen. We ordered three dishes: skillet breakfast, fluffy pancakes and lobster with polenta (sorry, forgot the exact name). OMG. Those pancakes were definitely fluffy and the chef didn't skimp on chocolate chips. The skillet breakfast was savory, nutritious, side salad was a nice touch. My husband loved his polenta with lobsters, he was in the carboloading mood that day. I believe the rooms at the inn are great too; I heard other visitors commenting how much they were enjoying their stay. We would love to come back as guests next time.

She was full of recommendations (i.e. Goose Rocks Beach) and was friendly and kind without being overbearing. We showed up a bit late and the key was left in a coded lock box for us. The room was compact, but fine for my husband and I for our 2 night stay. We knew beforehand that breakfast would be boxed for us and that was fine. I was happy that they provided yogurt was Chobani and actually had some protein in it (unlike most continental breakfasts that are a carb party). We rented bikes and kayaks during our stay. It was great that they had these for us to utilize. The bikes should be covered during storage, however. They were a bit rusty. This was the priciest place that we stayed during our 7 night trip, but I wouldn't consider it the best. After our stay, I do feel that our stay should not have cost us so much.

Nice little meal here. Not really my favorite stop, but I do fear that I screwed this one up and…read moreit wasn't on them. It happens.... It's got the old diner feel to it, for sure.... You get the nostalgia of the place as soon as you walk in. After I ordered, I had buyers remorse as I had not gotten some of the more famous things this place had. I am now still upset as I type this. The Lobster Pie and some of the namesake lobster sandwiches would have probably been much better than what I had. I was a bit burnt out on seafood and it was breakfastish time. I screwed up and ordered something that I knew I didn't like but thought I might be wrong. Nope. I was right, that I was wrong.... I got the country breakfast, with CITY HAM! What a moron!! I hate city ham and have no idea why I ordered it. Hate it! Hate it! Hate it! Mad at myself for being a dumbass. It came with beans on toast and I ordered some kind of local sausages too. C had corned beef hash and eggs, and stole my beans and toast. I had some sausage gravy too to slap on them biscuits. Server was nice. It's hard to remember exactly because I lost my internal cool.... I did good keeping it contained, I don't think C even picked up on it as I am mastering my ability to have internal meltdowns with no external visibility. C did learn something here.... She likes baked beans on toast.... We are now looking for ways to get this elsewhere. We live in Memphis, so it's not that common. So we now ask for toast at BBQ places. Tehehe Sausage gravy was pretty good. Biscuits were fair. Hot Italian Sausages were very good, I liked them much better than city fucking ham. Beans are really nice with a good flavor and a nice kick. The side of potatoes were tasty. City ham sucks and should be banished from the planet earth immediately! I may make it back, if I do, I will get the Lobster Pie probably! Message me if you have and let me know your thoughts. We love you Maine!!! '26 - 20

We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

Here's what doesn't seem to have changed: it's an attractive, slightly out-of-the-way dining spot that has a very nice bar, comfy seating on a patio and inside, good servers (thank you Heather!), and a menu with a lot of tasty choices. We continue to recommend it, although hesitantly. There have been some changes, in our opinion, that left us just a little disappointed, hence four stars not five. Blackened salmon: pretty good but not much blackened and just a little bit dry. Seafood poblano with clams and scallops: excellent, well seasoned. Calamari: Crunchy but much too chewy. Yummy spinach, a crab cake that tasted bland. Sourdough bread wasn't warm and left us wanting. Fine bar choices with local beers. The romaine salad was, well, unusual, with a blueberry vinaigrette that was awfully sweet for our taste and, frankly, kind of hard to cut. Final verdict? Not quite up to what we hoped for after our experience a dozen years ago. Maybe that's us; memory can be tricky. But we came away not quite as happy as the last time for sure and a little more cautious in recommending the restaurant. If you're curious, entree prices generally in the $30s, appetizers $12-20, cocktails around 12-15. We're giving the Tavern four stars, but 3.5 would be closer to our preference.
