Motor City Pizza with ricotta
Jordan C.

FINALLY returned to this gem in the 4th Ave Food Park! I came here over a year ago and absolutely loved it. I am personally a big fan of Detroit style pizza and thought they did a pretty good job. While they aren't owned or affiliated with Satchel's anymore, the eatery still offers that same unique vibe of Satchel's. Ordering is simple, just order inside and they will call your name out when it is ready over an intercom. Everything is made fresh to order, so be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes for your pizza. It is served directly out of the oven and is very hot and fresh! They offer some specialty pizzas, but they have so many topping options it is super easy to curate your own pizza too. The pizzas are a nice size, about an 8x10 pan size. A good personal pizza size, but could easily be shared too. Along with pizzas, they offer salad, waffles, some desserts, and brews. This go around, I customized my own pie. I went with pepperoni (they use the cup pepperonis!), black olives, mushrooms, and basil. These toppings balanced out perfectly and there were ample amounts of each. The pizza was covered in toppings, with a nice sauce to cheese ratio. I love the cup pepperonis and find they hold a lot more flavor, bringing more to the pizza overall. The saltiness of the olives and the fresh mushrooms accompanied the pizza perfectly. The edges were nice and crisp, the sauce flavorful, and the cheese was divine. It wasn't soggy by any means either, which I GREATLY appreciate. This pizza was phenomenal, while it wasn't the most authentic Detroit style, it was certainly close enough! I also got a salad, which was underwhelming to say the least. It was supposed to come with "homemade croutons", but lacked them completely. Definitely not worth the $8.50...wouldn't recommend the salad. While the pizza is a little more expensive, especially considering they only offer takeout, the quality is present. And I do think the serving size is bigger, so I say it's worth it! Overall, I was super pleased with my experience and was more than happy I finally returned. The pizza was just as good as I remembered. Everything is made fresh to order and the service is great as well. I would for sure check this place out, especially if you are in the mood for some good pizza! Can't wait to return and try more.

Gf pizza- really large
Lesli S.

Sorry- just didn't love it like all the other reviewers. Easy to find. Didn't have any trouble parking. Guy inside was pleasant. Place is quirky, which we like. Really appreciated that the guy washed his hands after using the register b4 making pizzas. This is 1 of the only places I can say where I've seen sanitary practices truly used so thank u! Ordered the gf pizzas, which we truly appreciated them offering, & salad. It's a Detroit style but even a little puffier. Unfortunately we just didn't enjoy the pizza. It's pricy but u get a lot of pizza. Could definitely share. It's not ur typical wimpy sized gf pizza. However, it's mostly like eating a loaf of bread w/a touch of topping/cheese/red sauce. It got old really quickly. Picnic tables r outside- wasn't too hot when we were there but tons of flies so not comfortable. Salad was ok- meh. Wouldn't return.

BEST hot honey pizza ever!!!!

This is one of best places in Gainesville. Definitely in my top 10. This little pizza shack is a Detroit style pizza place with a twist because they sell waffles too. We always order the pepperoni with Hot honey. If you haven't tried this combo yet then you are definitely missing out. The pizza is always so fresh and they are all made to order. The size is definitely personal pan but you can get a couple different combos and share with friends. This place is located in a Food park and they have plenty outside seating. The place is also decorated in lots of artsy recycled items, that just adds to the charm. Check this place out you won't regret it!

Motor City: double pepperoni and hot honey

This is (as the kids say) low-key one of the best pizza places in Gainesville. I like it so much more than the original Satchel's, which I feel is highly overrated. Located in the 4th Ave Food Park, Square House Pizza offers waffles, salads, breakfast pizzas, sodas, beers, and of course, the square pizza. You can build your own, with each topping being $1.25 or order with one of their specialty squares. I went with the Motor City, which was double pepperoni and hot honey. Now when they say double pepperoni, they mean it: the meat was stacked up and the sweet and spicy honey layered over the savory pepperoni was a match made in heaven. While the square size does seem a bit small for the $16 price, these pies are thick and more than filling for one person. They have seating just outside their side door, otherwise there is seating all around the 4th Ave Food Park area. The only shame of all of this? I only got a chance to try out Square House once before I moved away from Gainesville. Best believe it's on my list of places to return to on my next visit.

I tried one of the monthly special pies at SquareHouse and it was amazing! This is a super great place to get fun flavor combinations on a pizza! Sitting outside at 4th Ave is also always a great time!

This was such a cool chill spot!! If you want to grab a pizza and have a relaxing time with friends, this is a perfect place. It has alot of tables outside and I like how it is connected to other restaurants. The pizza was yummy. I had the buffalo chicken pizza and it was very flavorful and a good portion size for the price. The walls were nice decorated with cool decor and there is a fun shop to get collector items as you are purchasing your pizza. Fun place to check out in Gainsville!

While I typically prefer thinner New York style pizza, this pizza is also delicious! When I came here a long time ago I wasn't much of a fan, but this time it was so much better! I got the Motor City pizza, which I highly recommend (double pepperoni and hot honey). The crust and cheese were excellent and the flavors were all really good. The service is pretty good and the ambiance of the food park is really nice. There's plenty of outdoor seating and the inside where you order is super cute as well. The pizza is huge, I split it with a friend and half was plenty, so you get a good portion for the price!

Breakfast pizza with red sauce and tomato

This place is a gem! The location itself is a blast--right next to outdoor seating and live music. Parking can be a small hassle, especially on a busy Saturday morning, but we found a spot after circling a few times. The breakfast pizza is yummy! Next time, I'd get the syrup topping instead of the red sauce. Regardless, it was still pretty good, and comes with egg + one free topping. Would highly recommend the pizza if you like thicker crust.

Big Bradford Pizza

Love this pizza. My favorite is the buffalo chicken but I tried the Big Bradford this time and it was so tasty! Love getting to try their other pizzas because they never disappoint. Ir sometimes takes a little bit longer because they are making the pizzas fresh but it's totally worth it. I also love getting to eat it at 4th Ave. SquareHouse itself is a cool quirky place, and the outside at 4th Ave is so lovely and fun.

Sausage and mushroom to go!!! Yummm!!

So, I found a great lil pizza place as I also found shelter from the coming summer rain storm. I was greeted by a friendly "Welcome in!" by one of the cooks....no pressure, no corporate questions, just a nice greeting. There are trinkets and buttons and all kinds of stuff to buy, besides pizza, but I was drawn to the full rack of t-shirts. Some were funny, and some weren't for me, but I was here for the nourishment that fills the room with amazing Italian aroma! I walked straight to the counter and looked at the choices available, (easy peasy) and I chose basil, sausage and mushroom! Yummm!!! He told be it would be about 15 minutes, so I went out on the covered porch to enjoy the rain and try to avoid listening to the three coeds, two tables over, who were talking about their dream jobs! Before I knew it, my name was called and I went to the sliding window to grab my food. Another friendly encounter, and a "thank you" from the same worker who greeted me at the door! The pizza was amazing!! The texture all around the sides of the whole pizza was crisp and delicious. The red sauce was tangy, and the basil and sausage just made it even better. The cheese, the crust, the sauce and the different textures (I didn't forget the mushroom factor), made it so eat to enjoy! I could hardly take a picture of it, before I devoured it. I ate three of the four pieces of my personal pizza, and rested for ten minutes, before I ate the fourth! Such a great way to eat pizza! As one of the t-shirt said "Square Pizza Rules!"... or something like that.... I

This was my first time trying a Detroit style deep dish pizza, and it's safe to say I wasn't disappointed! I'm not really a big fan of pizza overall but I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza at Satch Squared. I was told by my friends that live up there that this location is also owned by a locally loved pizza place. The pizza had a good flavor and a bit of a spice to it. The crispy crust was my favorite part and the top part of the pizza was pillowy soft. We got one personal pizza that fed two adults and was the perfect amount. My favorite part about my experience was the ambiance of the place. It had a little Indy vibe and filled with cool Knick knacks that I loved. I ended up buying an oven mitt. I could go in just to browse the trinkets alone! I also really enjoyed the outdoor seating and how a sink was available to wash our hands outside. We sat inside a bus turned into a picnic area which was really neat. Unfortunately the mosquitoes followed us in there but it's Florida so you can't really expect otherwise. I would definitely return to this location.

Square Cheese Pizza with pepperoni, ricotta and HOT HONEY!
Cole T.

I don't even like pizza but this place is delicious! It's a little pricy for a personal pizza but it's well worth it. You walk in and order at the counter and wait for them to call your name from the window. It took about 25 minutes to get our order so call ahead if you're in a rush. Today I ordered a cheese pizza with ricotta, pepperoni and hot honey. Each topping is a dollar extra. The hot honey takes this pizza over the top!! They bake it in a deep dish pan and it creates this amazing super crunchy cheese on the crispy crust. If you're a fan of thin crust this isn't the place but if you love cheese, and thick deep dish you need to come here. There's no seating inside but it shares a common outside area with a delicious Mexican restaurant, and a few other local business in the shopping center. This place definitely worth a stop and I look forward to visiting the next time I'm in Gainesville.

Needless to say this the Metro diner truly surpassed my expectations. We walked in and were greeted immediately and asked if we would like to sit outside which is a covered area or indoors. We chose inside given it being a hot humid day and wanting that extra comfort. The vibe felt amazing with all the smiles and yes even though busy all the wait staff was hopping doing their business! We were seated and told about the specials and given the menu. I was unsure what I wanted because I think I could have eaten a little bit of everything! I did ask the waitress a couple of suggestions and one of them was the pancakes I had chosen. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day! How cool is that and rare. They had a chicken and waffle special that was actually half a chicken ( pieces ) fried with Belgium waffles, powdered sugar and sweet strawberry butter served with their signature sweet and spicy sauce. I'll be honest when I had seen someone else get their plate I was surprised. It looked absolutely incredible and well tremendous. On their specials they had banana pudding pancakes or waffles, this also sounded amazing. It had walnuts, butter and powdered sugar and definitely banana. I am most certainly glad that I chose this as it was incredibly. Super fluffy, flavorful and the banana was not overwhelming there was a perfect balance of flavors. There was a sauce on them that I assume was the banana pudding. It was light and just enough to not overpower the pancake itself. We had also ordered croissant French toast and my son absolutely loved them. They were crispy on the outside yet fluffy and flavorful with a fantastic texture topped with some powdered sugar. Some ordered hash browns, these were also delicious and homemade with a great texture and the portion like all the other dishes pretty large. We had all tried the biscuits and gravy. These too were delicious with such a nice balance of flavors. The biscuits indeed homemade. We were all very pleased with everything. Some eggs over easy and bacon cooked perfectly. The coffee honestly the best I've had in years. I'm a coffee drinker and I cannot figure this coffee was outstanding! I had four cups and wish for more ha ha. Best of all I must compliment the service. I have not been to a restaurant of any sort with such attentive service, quality service as we received here in years. The waitress kept refilling my coffee and water, brought my son more soda ( even a container to take his home ) asked everyone if they needed anything at appropriate times and was extremely kind and considerate. I will be back and I highly recommend the Metro Diner for a great meal, quality service and relaxed environment that you will enjoy. Order at the counter, get a number and then they will bring food out to you. Self serve water is available inside. We were there a busy day. Wait to order wasn't too bad and we found a table outside, but nobody was bussing any tables so basically customers sitting down were left clearing the dishes from the table of the people before them & wiping down the table. Nobody from the restaurant came out to help or apologize and it wasn't until dishes were almost toppling out of the bin that anyone took them away. Menu is pretty diverse - you can get some traditional items or more eclectic. We ordered the green goddess salad, croque mademoiselle (ham & cheese sandwich) on gluten free bread & okonomiyaki (japanese pancakes with cloud eggs). It took probably 30 min to get our food. The food presentation is really lovely & feels special when it's delivered. However, taste left something to be desired. The Japanese pancakes weren't good. The egg specifically looked really pretty all puffed up, but was so bad none of us were willing to have more than one bite. There were some other funky flavors going on there as well that detracted from enjoying it. The ham & cheese sandwich was okay, but the cheese is put on the outside, including a runny cheese, so it's a total mess to try and eat. Definitely do not order this one on a date! We ended up just eating the inside portion. It does come with a small green goddess type salad, which is nice. The entree green goddess appeared great when delivered. Loved the light, fresh dressing and ingredients. However, lots of the lettuce had sort of rotting tips, which made me worried to eat it especially since this isn't the cleanest place. Despite appreciating the quirkiness of the restaurant and the selection of fresh options they offer, we won't be returning.

I went to the Luke's Bagels location under the Standard this past week and was disappointed. I hadn't been here in a little bit, especially since Bagels & Co. just opened down the street. But I was craving a Luke's Bagels, so I got there around 8:30, when they opened ready to order. Unfortunately, no one was at the counter when I came in. Someone popped out from the back to take my order a little while's later though. Their bagel selection was extremely limited, more so than usual. They didn't have poppy seed or sesame seed bagels. This was surprising, as I thought this location was sent fresh bagels each morning, I guess not. Luckily, I was able to order a bacon, egg, and cheese on a toasted Asiago, along with a toasted plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese. This took roughly 15 minutes to come out, which was longer than I expected. Upon delving into my bagels, I noticed a couple things that were different from my previous visits last semester. The bagels were definitely smaller, had less cream cheese, and didn't taste as fresh. The BEC had ample amounts of American cheese and the eggs were good, but there was barely any bacon! There was MAYBE two meager pieces on the bagel, I didn't even get bacon in most of my bites. The Asiago bagel still had a decent taste, with a nice sharp Asiago. But it just wasn't very fresh tasting like they've been in the past. The texture wasn't awful, but it wasn't what it used to be. The plain bagel with cream cheese was lackluster. The plain bagel was just fine, as it too was not very fresh. The strawberry cream cheese was decent and not too sweet, which I appreciate. I also like that their cream cheeses have more of whipped texture to them. But there certainly wasn't as much cream cheese on this bagel as I've received in the past! Overall, I was not very pleased with my experience here. The bagels were not fresh at all, the sandwich was lacking bacon, and I just thought the quality appeared be lower. Maybe I came on an off day, but the bagels were not fresh and the assortment they had available was very limited. The texture of the bagels still has a softer center, with a chewy outside , but the outside was too chewy and hard. The size and portions were decreased as well. The BEC had too much cheap, American cheese, and lacked bacon. The plain bagel with cream cheese didn't have much smear on it. For being about $19 for two bagels, not worth it. This makes me sad as I used to love Luke's, but this was not a good visit. I hope next time I come here it is better!
