Veggie Calzone
Hayli Z.

Didn't think much from the outside, but the ratings were high, so I figured I'd give it a try. AMAZING! The pizza had that nice, sandy crust and wasn't even greasy, which is really hard to find. The calzone was big and really delicious, but the two ends didn't have any filling. I would definitely come here again, but maybe just for the pizza as I like an overstuffed calzone.

Super cute outdoor seating area! We stopped here on the way to Ginnie Springs and everyone service was very sweet. That gyro was absolutely delicious and the lamb slices were generous! Tomatoes and onions were very fresh!

ZA, little greasy so make sure you grab enough napkins!

We were only in town for a few ways, Sam's was over priced and not worth it for the taste.

Sam has been making pizza for our family for over 30 years! He has great food for a fair price. Really enjoy his meatball sub too!

Came by recently with a part of nine. They don't take reservations less than two hours in advance,…read moreso we had to join the waiting list. We were afraid with the live music that it might be up to an hour wait (we were told). In point of fact, we got seated maybe five minutes after we arrived. (They indicated at that time that it was actually a longer wait for indoors than outdoors despite decent weather.) I split the Baked River Mushroom appetizer with my wife. We had expected stuffed mushroom caps of some sort; but what it actually is is chopped mushrooms and vegetables in a dressing (brown butter sage and balsamic reduction) served with thick dark bread as a platform. Pretty good. I also had a bit of the Spinach Artichoke dip (good) and the Gator Bites (which have quite a bit of fried onion mixed in with the gator) (quite good.) For an entree, I had the Duke's Macaroni with Blackened Chicken (which they mixed in.) Quite delicious, but it did leave quite a lot of oil (over a tablespoon) in the plate. It was a very large portion. We had dessert plans elsewhere, so skipped their rather large dessert options. Our server was outstanding, friendly, taking care of everything. Except for the very long wait between ordering and getting our first appetizers and soups. (Not such a wait before the entrees came.) 20% gratuity added for parties of eight or more.

We've always…read moreenjoyed eating at El Patio, and it's been one of our family's favorite places to visit whenever we're in High Springs. Unfortunately, after our experience yesterday, it will likely be our last visit. Our server was kind, attentive, and did exactly what she should have done. At the beginning of our meal, I clearly informed her that my mother has a severe, anaphylactic seafood allergy and that extra care needed to be taken to avoid any cross-contamination. She acknowledged it and noted it with our order. Partway through the meal, my mother asked if I thought there was shrimp in her food because she believed she had tasted it. There was only one bite left, so my husband ate it to check--and it was indeed shrimp. Because my mother has a life-threatening seafood allergy, every minute matters when it comes to preventing a serious reaction. I immediately notified our server, who handled the situation professionally and went to get the manager. Unfortunately, the manager's response was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've ever had. Instead of asking if my mother was okay or apologizing for what had happened, his first response was to ask whether we had "proof" there was shrimp in the dish. Since the food had already been eaten, of course there wasn't a piece left to show him. When I asked if he genuinely believed we were making this up, he nodded and said he "kind of" thought we were lying because "this happens all the time." Being accused of lying while dealing with a potential anaphylactic reaction was unacceptable. Food allergies are not inconveniences; they can be life-threatening. Luckily I had Benadryl on me to help sustain the reaction until we got home to give her further care. This review is ultimately about food safety and management. Restaurants have a responsibility to take allergy notifications seriously, and managers should know how to respond with empathy, professionalism, and concern when something goes wrong. Instead, we were met with accusations and disbelief. I also requested the owner's contact information, and initially no one was willing to provide it. Thankfully, our server eventually did. It's incredibly disappointing because we've loved El Patio for years. Sadly, this experience has completely changed how we view the restaurant. I sincerely hope ownership addresses both the kitchen's allergy procedures and the management training surrounding food allergies and customer care, because the next family may not be as fortunate

Tucked in a remote corner of Gainesville, there is a very happy place where you can get some pretty…read moredecent fried fish and other things. Gainesville Seafood, out on the Eastern end of town, is that place. It may not be the easiest spot to stumble upon, but that's part of its charm. This is the kind of hidden gem that loyal regulars keep quietly to themselves, the sort of place that feels like a reward for those willing to seek it out. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of no-frills setting that lets the food do all the talking. I went for a seafood platter, which was shrimp and fish with fries. They have a variety of different kinds of fish available that you can pick from, which is a nice touch. It gives the meal a sense of personalization that you don't always find at casual seafood spots. I went with the flounder, and it turned out to be an easy choice to feel good about. The platter was generously portioned, the kind of meal that leaves you satisfied without the need to contemplate dessert. All of it was excellent. The flounder was light and flaky on the inside, with a crisp golden crust that had clearly seen well-seasoned oil and confident hands in the kitchen. The shrimp were equally well-executed. They were plump, tender, and fried just right, without any of the rubbery disappointment that lesser seafood joints often deliver. Even the fries held their own, providing a solid, starchy counterpoint to all that seafood goodness. The wait wasn't at all bad either, which is worth mentioning because a place this good can often mean a crowd. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the whole experience moved at a comfortable, easy pace. Whether you're a Gainesville local or just passing through, Gainesville Seafood is the kind of place worth going a little out of your way for, and once you've been, you'll understand why people keep coming back.

The parking lot can get a little hectic, especially during busy hours, but once I got inside everything moved quickly. The service was fast and I really appreciated that everything is fried fresh to order, you can taste the difference. I got the wings and shrimp combo and added hush puppies. The wing batter was amazing: not greasy, perfectly seasoned, and honestly better than Popeyes or even KFC. A lot of places give you more batter than chicken, but here the chicken was moist and a good portion. The hush puppies were also surprisingly moist and flavorful, some of the best I've had since they're usually dry elsewhere. My find and I split the order and since we eat small portion we think that was a good portion for us and also had leftovers. Everything was so good I didn't even need sauce, and I'm a sauce girl through and through. Overall, great experience and I'd definitely come back when I'm craving something fresh, crispy, and satisfying.

Upon entering, you get this great bakery type feel with an eclectic mix of furnishings and rooms. The vibe is great, the owner is fantastic and super friendly. He's not Hungarian, but his craft is spot on to Hungarian breadmaking. I love the fact that I'm able to see all the different types of spin breads that he made- both sandwich and dessert. For my sandwich, I had chicken salad, which had a slight taste of curry perhaps?, that was delicious better than one of the franchise chicken salad places that I've been to before. It was fresh and seasoned perfectly. Everything about it was delicious. I also had the soup of the day which was a Hungarian mushroom soup, which was so so good. If it's on the specials list for soup, get it, it won't disappoint. My husband had the shrimp salad and said that the shrimp was really fresh and the sandwich was great. He was happy that he made the choice to have that for lunch. I didn't have any room for dessert because I was so full, but there were a few on the menu that looked so enticing if I'm ever in the area again, I would definitely stop and have the chicken salad again, which was really good and make sure I made room for dessert. However, there were so many other things on the menu that I would've loved to have tried. Inside was so charming I loved all the rooms and the decorations in there were just really neat and apparently there was outside seating in the back that I would've loved to have sat at, but since we were on the road, we had to keep our visit short. Try this place! So unique, so fresh and delicious.
