After seeing bumper stickers everywhere we decided to check out Satchel's. If there was an award for most fascinating and eclectic restaurant, they would win hands down!!! We showed up on graduation day so our wait was about 45 minutes. With so much to look at we didn't mind. I was so intrigued. I couldn't help but take so many photos. I wanted to explore it all! The place was packed, elbow to elbow. I had so much fun walking around and seeing all the art. I had a blast on the swing. There was so much to see. In one of the bathrooms, the walls were covered with children's games. And you won't have to worry about running out of toilet paper because there were a bunch of holders. We got seated outside. Our server came quick but gave us enough time to order. I ordered a pesto pizza with extra sausage and tomatoes. It took about 30 minutes to get our pizza but we knew it would take longer because of how busy it was. When I got my pizza it was piping hot. Pulled a slice off and it was loaded with sausage. A meat pizza! Impressive!!! It was delicious. The right amount of sauce. The slices were large. I liked it a lot. When we finished eating pizza the server brought the dessert menu. The coolest menu ever: it was a viewfinder!!!!! I had to order dessert just because of the menu. I got the chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. It was a huge piece, moist, and the frosting had the right amount of sweet. It was worth every calorie. I was so excited about my food I forgot to take pictures. Oops! I can't wait to go back. We ordered ricotta cheese on half but apparently she submitted the order with ricotta on the whole pie and was giving us a hard time that she couldn't change it. Meanwhile, it was about 30 seconds afterward so she could've just walked back to the kitchen and told them. She ended up fixing it, but it was off-putting. We were also informed when we were seated that gratuity was included, and that the bill could not be split. This might be helpful info for larger parties. Revised opinion to 5/5! Again, satchel's is quirky and unique which is already such a draw but on this visit, the complaints I had last time were completely resolved. I got the meatball instead of the sausage this time and it was delicious. Additionally, the crust was not as rock-like as last time, still able to maintain its structure but crispy instead of crunchy. I'm so glad the crust is edible because the garlic flavor was delicious and I'm glad I didn't have to skip it this time. Also I've gotten to try several different toppings, none of which disappoint. I've been coming to Satchel's since... honestly, maybe 2014? I tried to dig through my camera roll for some old food pics but all I found were goofy shots in the van and the attached ones here. The food is always a hit -- the pizza is a classic, the Satch salad is a must, and I always rave about their cannolis. What's also cool is that their plates and silverware are all different, which just adds to the charm. There's even a little store with fun goodies and knick-knacks to browse through while you wait or after your meal. Every time I come home, Satchel's is a non-negotiable stop. Great experience at Satchel's! Stopped for lunch while passing through town on a chilly Saturday, and we could smell the warm pizza flavors wafting out as we approached! Good amount of seating both inside and outside- all super electric, including a van you can eat in! We opted for inside which was cozy. We started with the homemade soda flight, for $7 which included 7 different small glasses. Personal family favorites were the gingerale, rootbeer and grape soda- all delicious. Next, ordered custom slices - each slice is about two regular slices. The cheese and veggie options were popular and extremely tasty! One slice (the mama, 4 toppings $7) was perfect for me while others ordered 2 slices. Sauce was delicious but had a little spice kick to it so just a heads up for kids or others who might not expect that. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Okay, don't judge, but it took me a year of living in Gainesville to finally stop in at Satchels. I'd been craving great pizza for some time and boy did Satchels not disappoint! Got their lunch special (slice and salad) and added another slice onto that. Oh my, the first bite took me back to my favorite (long closed) pizza place from my childhood in South Florida. The slight sweetness of the tomato sauce, the not thick crust that was nice and crispy in the bottom...serious flashbacks! And the salad was incredible as well! Skipped dessert this time around, but their dessert menu presentation...on an old ViewMaster...hahaha, such a great way to show you their desserts. Service is superb and the ambiance is fun and incredibly unique, with all the stained glass and different lamps at each table and more throughout. Overall, don't skip Satchels on any visit to Gainesville, so much fun character and wonderful food. I can finally say after living here for over 20 years, I finally made it to Satchel's. The location just isn't convenient for me so it finally took a special trip. The place is really cool and lived up to all the vibes I had been told about. However, we did sit outside at one of the concrete picnic type tables and my back and butt regretted that later as they are obviously hard and no back rest. Service was good and friendly. The pizza was good, but not amazing. I have heard people rave about Satchel's for years, so I may have had too high expectations. Really good sauce, toppings seemed fresh, but could have used a little more cheese. The crust was good and crisp, however the toppings and sauce could have been spread to the edge more as there was at least 2 inches of crust along the edges. (As evidenced by some of the pictures posted by others.) Overall a decent pizza joint and cool place to visit, but ultimately not convenient for me. read more

This is a "not to be missed" place in Gainesville. It's worth a visit even if it's just to see the funky and ever so creative decor. Be sure to tour the full place before you leave, as there are lots of interesting things to see toward the back and the sides. Now for the food - I had a pretty amazing gluten sensitive pizza. It's actually called Millet and Flax Pizza and it tastes so much better than it might sound. The "Tiny" was not so tiny. The menu is very clear that this is "gluten sensitive" and has traces of gluten. So - Celiacs beware. The crust was thin and tasty, the sauce was great, and the cheese was good quality. It's hard to find good gluten sensitive pizza and this one was particularly good. The Satchel Salad was filled with delicious things and the Calzone was generous in size and tasty. It was nice to get an outside table and the service was excellent. I look forward to returning and will save my appetite when I do. read more
