I highly recommend this place during Lent Fridays or for something light!! This place has only been open for a couple weeks but I am So glad they opened on our side of town. It's the first time I've had Poké and the way the staff described the process was like a chipotle or subway concept where you add toppings to your bowl- "like sushi in a bowl". They have two sizes available and complimentary miso soup if you're dining in. Nothing but Courteous staff helped us. The lady went out of her way to let us sample all the sauces and a few of the crunchy toppings. Will definitely be coming back. I mentioned it's good for lent Friday's because they have salmon, tuna, crab, and other seafood options, as well as grilled chicken. I visited on 12/28 around 2:30pm with one of my friends from out of town. Normally we love going to eat here since they opened back in 2018ish. Today when ordering, my friend had asked for extra cucumbers to which the server mumbled something that we didn't quite hear. She repeated her question for more cucumbers to which he responded "no." When she said she would pay for it, he put about 4 cucumbers more in her bowl. I, myself had ordered the spam musubi bites. When they were brought to the table, the girl essentially threw the on the table without saying anything. Honestly, the quality and customer service of this place is awful. Square Root Poké was the second place I visited in the Katy Asian market/food area. I was in the mood for something to eat after class so I decided to drive to Katy from my school in Cypress. I happen to look around the area and I told myself, "I like Poké, let's get Poké" so I stopped by. I was welcomed when I stepped in and for some reason I felt a bit nervous. Maybe I was intimidated by the layout of the store because it looked very cool hipsterish kind of vibe. But then I realized when I get Poké, it feels like a SAT test of what to get and what goes well with what because it's that important lol Besides my anxiety for standardized testing, I just went with a customized large bowl which was $12.95 I think but don't quote me on that. Square Root also has fresh juices but at the time they weren't ready yet. The large portion is a good size and I can appreciate the container they place the Poké in. It is a more greener way to dispose than in comparison to other places that give you a plastic sometimes Tupperware like container. Overall I enjoyed the visit to Square Root. Next time to cut that nervousness I should just stick with the recipe combinations board. I will be back to visit if I am ever in the area and I would like to try the fresh juices they make when they are available. So so happy there's a GOOD poke place near my home now! First off, walking in to the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Everything was clean, neat, and just plain beautiful! Customer service overall was awesome. The staff were very friendly and informative to those who have never had poke before. The quality of fish was superb. It was so fresh, the salmon that I had was so buttery and perfect! They had something very unique to the Houston area poke restaurants which is edamame noodles! I had some in my bowl on top of brown rice. It was delicious and would definitely get that again next time. Their selection of toppings were awesome. Their bowls are also huge!!! We go to Pokii Eatery and thought their bowls were big. But no! Square root is bigger and boy am I happy! Getting more bang for my buck is always great! Lastly, a huge plus for me, is that they have free miso soup! And it wasn't one of those cheap and boring miso soup - it was legit delicious soup! They also have cucumber infused water alongside their soup. A very nice touch. Sorry - one last thing lol...they also have fresh cold pressed juices! We had a couple of samples while we were there and they tasted so good I might get a bottle next time! I can't wait to go back! We are fairly new to the Poke craze because we don't like raw fish but once we realized that you can get cooked shrimp and chicken, we've quickly become fans of Poke. We generally go to a different Poke restaurant that is closer to home but we thought we'd give Square Root Poke a try. The staff was friendly and although the price point was a little higher than what we were used too, you are provided a healthy serving. We liked that there is a large variety of options for toppings and in addition to rice and lettuce as your base, you can choose edamame noodles. We enjoyed our Poke bowls and the experience but not sure we'd go out of our way to come back. When I first walked in, the first thing that caught my attention was the cleanliness, the organized tables, and the pure white aesthetic of the store. Immediately as my friends and I walked it, we were greeted in a friendly manner. When we were ready to order, the employees were VERY kind and quick with their work. How courteous and polite they were highlighted my day and left a strong impression on me. My friends and I ordered a large poke bowl with a spring mix. We ordered 2 scoops of salmon and 1 scoop of tuna (which was absolutely delicious.) One particular employee noticed that we were sharing and offered us bowls to split the poke bowl among us, as well as miso soup bowls! We gladly accepted the items and finished our meal. Not the best Poke place I've been to, but it's decent. Very clean and simple interior, staff was nice, and typical poke bowl pricing. And I like that they have paper bowls vs plastic! I had high hopes seeing how many good reviews this place had received; my boyfriend and I each ordered our own bowl of white rice, 2 scoops of salmon and 1 scoop of scallop. We added a few toppings such as cucumber, masago, imitation crab, scallion, nori and sesame seeds. However, maybe it was because it wasn't busy at the time, but the rice tasted a bit stale and the protein portions were cut smaller than what I was used to from other poke places. Another thing about the rice was that my poke bowl tasted more like a cooked rice dish from a kitchen rather than having that taste and texture of sushi rice with fresh fish. Despite having added two different sauces to my poke bowl, overall, it all tasted quite bland. I always finish my poke bowl, but I couldn't force myself to finish the one here. Feels there's like a poke spot popping up everywhere nowadays. I decided to try this spot in the up and coming Katy Asian Town since it had such great reviews. Inside, it's bright, airy, and clean. The set up is pretty much the same as other poke spots. I opted for the create your own poke bowl, and chose the small size. My poke creation consisted of 2 scoops of salmon, white rice, sesame shoyu sauce, edamame, cilantro, scallions, masago, furikake, sesame seeds, and shredded nori. I forgot to add onions, jalapeños, and ginger. Next time. When mixed altogether, my poke bowl was a flavor and texture explosion. I enjoyed it. I do have to say that I wished the white rice was a bit softer, though. Other than that, I appreciated the complimentary miso soup that came with the poke. The price wasn't too bad for a small poke bowl. With tax, it came out to $11, which was to be expected for seafood bowls like this. I used to work here and it was my favorite place to get poke!! My order was made incorrectly, the proportions have decreased incredibly since they opened, and my bowl lacked sauce and the sauce within it was watery and runny when it was just spicy mayo. I got my brother a bowl with salmon, tuna, and just spicy mayo and his bowl was dry and had almost no sauce. I've been wanting to try this spot since they opened but haven't had a chance to until now. First of all, the interior is sooo gorgeous! It's a really Instagram worthy spot and Square Root is unique in the fact that they offer a variety of items for the health conscious, vegan, or foodie alike. The fish is super fresh and the sauces are amazing. Ask for a sample if you're not sure what you want and the friendly workers will happily oblige and provide recommendations as well. I opted for a small bowl with half spring mix and half edamame noodles. I've never had edamame noodles until I came here and they're suuuper yum! Great organic alternative to white rice. As for the sauce, I chose the pineapple and sesame sauce mixed with honey wasabi drizzled over (highly recommend this sauce combo!!!!) The flavors were super bright and mixed well together. I think this is one of the better poke spots, I only wish I lived a lot closer! They also offer complimentary miso soup with every bowl. I'd recommend also trying one of the delicious juices they offer - it is a great pairing with the fresh poke bowls. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area. I decided to build my own bowl and my husband opted for their Hawaiian Punch signature bowl (salmon, jalapeño, cilantro, edamame, pineapple, crab & seaweed salad, pineapple fusion sauce). They have a variety of signature bowls here, with some interesting ones being their Baby Steps bowl (grilled salmon) and Nugget bowl (grilled chicken)... there's even a vegetarian option with the Peace & Love tofu bowl. The line was moving quickly. They have a menu to help you pick, or you can slap it together like a Chipotle, or MOD pizza by just pointing to things that you like. I ordered the large ($12.95 and 10.95 for a regular) and it was big. The young lady put a ton of rice then asked me what protein (fish) I wanted. I ordered two scoops of salmon and one of tuna. Then I ordered all of everything that I wanted. It pretty much mirrored the Hawaiian bowl. Overall it was great!
