Very average poke place- wasn't bad, but wasn't WOW either. I wish they gave more fish because I still had half of my fillings left with no more bites of fish - sad. But, one yummy thing they do is that they toss the raw fish in your sauce of choice and mix-ins before adding it to the rest of the bowl. The small size was a bit over $10, which imo is a fair price, but just wishing they put more fish. To be honest, I probably won't be back, BUT it was definitely worth a try. read more

After trying about 8 or so poke restaurants in the Houston area, I just thought their poke was okay. I ordered a large, that comes with 3 proteins, and there are about 8 proteins on the menu to choose from. I asked for 2 scoops of salmon as my main protein. I don't really like tuna that much so when it comes to other fish choices, they don't have a 3rd. I typically order yellowtail so maybe they will add that one day. My 3rd scoop was scallops. The large was plenty big and I wasn't even able to eat it all leaving just the rice, although I came right before closing and had a huge lunch earlier in the day. I added many of the free toppings and skipped avocado this time. For my sauce, I went with spicy ponzu which was alright. Service was friendly and like several other poke places, they don't have a soda fountain and make you order single serve drinks in bottles or cans. I just opted for their water that comes in a container with slices of lemon and cucumber. The interior is bright white and clean, still after about 1 year of being open. If I was ever in the area again, I'd probably return but it wasn't my favorite poke in town, let's just say that. read more

Friendly staff and awesome poke! I liked that they have hot entrees and cooked salmon as alternatives. I came here with my family and some of us doesn't like raw sashimi so it was a nice touch to see some cooked items. I'm actually trying to cut carbs so this was great for me. Fish didn't have any odor so everything incorporated together well. My only problem is that I feel like the serving is small for the price . I usually get a small/regular at other places and I can never finish it but here, the portions were tiny. And after reading another review about their bowls, I too have an issue with it because of the structure. There's juice everywhere and it doesn't retain onto the food because of the flat bottom and due to the bowl being paper ish, it gets soaked and might leak through over a period. Free Miso Soup?! I can get behind that. Cucumber lemon water? I can get behind that as well! Unfortunately, the food I did have a few issues with. I love poke, and I've been to quite a few, so my standards are set pretty high. I'm not saying Square Root Poke is a bad place, but it could be much better and here's why. The bowls: On the very bottom of the bowl, it plateaus and had a round moat. Because of said moat, the sauce does drain and tend to hide there, leaving all the ingredients dying in need for a splash of flavor. That being said, because all the sauce sat at the bottom, the last few bites were overwhelming with whatever sauce you put in it. Since it had all the time to basically "marinate" in it. Had bland bites and overwhelming bites, almost difficult to finish. The edamame noodles were, almost inedible. They were dense, rough, flavorless, stiff, and didn't absorb any of the sauce at all. I would not recommend edamame noodles at all and I love edamame and noodles. But the two did not work in this case. Generally, I would say the ingredients didn't look or taste too fresh or wasn't good cuts. Salmon usually just melts in your mouth, took a few chews to get through that and the chicken looked like it came out of a can. The bowls was my biggest issue, that is definitely something that can be fixed. read more

This place is in the new H Mart complex and I have been wanting to try it for quite some time and I am glad I did. The price is more or less comparable to most places but for variety purposes and for people who may want to try poke but don't care for the fish options then this is the place for you. You can build your own or order a set bowl. You pick your base and protein and this place has a lot of options for the base as well as proteins like chicken and baked salmon. The base has the usual options but this place also has a zucchini pasta and edamame pasta that are MUST try! I originally ordered the edamame pasta and they offered to mix it with zucchini pasta and of course I accepted! The only con about the pasta is that it waters down your bowl and towards the end there was a lot of liquid in my bowl but still worth getting and it's probably the only base I will get when I come here. It's that good. As far as the mix-ins go, diced poke has way more options, but the options here are about the same as most poke places or a little less but they give you a good amount of it. When you dine in you get complimentary miso soup which is good and I really like how they have infused water. All in all the place is good, clean, friendly staff, and definitely a place I would continue to go back to. read more

Finally a good poke place in Katy! Square Root Poke opened in the new Asian center in Katy. Right when you step in the place is very bright and clean. I love the decor, all the beautiful greenery from the plants on the wall shelves is super cute! I wish I took a picture but I was so hungry I just wanted to eat my poke. There were so many choices in protein; salmon, tuna, scallops, shrimp and if you don't eat seafood there is chicken! Oh if you're vegan there is tofu as well for your poke! There are tons of mixers too, I got so overwhelmed from what to choose there's just so many combinations. Also don't be fooled, the small is HUGE the portions are generous here. Small comes with two scoops of protein, avocado is extra but that's a-okay for me. They have free miso soup, and it's delicious! Okay, now for the taste test. 5/5 The fish was fresh and delicious they definitely don't skimp on quality, and so are the mixers. I do wish the white rice was a little softer but that just might be personal preference. Oh if you don't like rice, they have spring mix, edamame noodles and other stuff you can substitute instead of rice. Love this place cause there is something for everyone and will be coming back. Very clean venue and the staff is very friendly and quick. Price is typical at about $10.50 for a small and $11.50 for a large. They have a good assortment of toppings to choose from and are fairly generous. The tuna and shrimp tasted pretty fresh and the vegetables were crisp and fresh as well. I had the spicy ponzu sauce which I found to be quite good. I also tried out an order of the spam musubi which was tasty but kinda small for $2.50. They also give free miso soup! My one complaint is that the bowls are a little small so when you eat you end up spilling a good portion out. I do commend them on using biodegradable disposable bowls though. read more

This is probably now my favorite poke spot. I'll definitely be visiting every time I'm in the Katy area! Their fish was hella fresh, and offered a ton of variety (I had the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail since you get 3 protein options for their large). Their vegetable/side selection was plentiful (I love veggies) and their sauces is what set this place apart. I mixed three different flavors that were all made in-house (got to sample them first which is always a plus) and even got the wasabi one which I traditionally don't even like. The design of the interior was simple, clean, and the wall of cute succulents, cactus, and other plants added to the whole "fresh" vibe of the entire experience.
