I came here in 2021 when they were doing a great job of keeping everything COVID safe as a way to entertain my then 10 year old nephew. It was so much fun and my whole family had a great time. This was fun outing. I went with several teenagers and they loved it. This museum test your spy skills through breaking codes, dodging lasers, lie detention, and surveillance. The surveillance room you had to identify for certain people or objects in a very quick time period through several cameras. The laser room was fun we were sliding across the floor and jumping over lasers. At the end of completing all the different rooms you are told of what type of spy you are. You also will receive an email with all the your scores from each interactive game. There is a gift shop at the end of the experience. read more

Not your typical NYC experience but it was a blast. If you like to immerse yourself in history, intrigue, espionage, and MI6/Mossad/KGB stuff then you are at the right place. At check in we were issued a wrist band with ID tag and a stylus pen then off we went. You need to complete 8 sets of tests which assess your personality traits & problem solving skills. These tests can be done anytime and in any of the stations found throughout the route. The experience took us to various scene rooms such as the WWII Enigma code breakers, SOE agent Virginia Hall, Cold War double agents, history of hackers, Edward Snowden, etc... I struggled at the central surveillance center. There we had to monitor 30-40 spy cameras simultaneously, then given 10 sec to find a person, object or specific activity. The only physical challenge was in the form of the lazer tunnel that was reminiscent of Mission Impossible. Navigating down the hallway while evading the lazer beams, all the while tapping the lit up bulbs on the wall to score points, it was a good cardio workout esp with the mask on. Went there for the James Bond exhibit, so that's all I can rate but it was excellent! Especially cool to see the Aston Martin up close and to read the technical specs (no, I'm NOT kidding) about the various features on the car. For example, how they decided on the propulsion system for the ejector seat, how the oil slick worked, and the difference between the bullet shield in the '60s and more modern versions that could use Kevlar. There are also interviews with the technical folks for those of us who like getting the behind-the-scenes perspective, and a montage at the end that even has a cameo by George Lasenby, the only person who played Bond in only one movie. (Geeking out; sorry-not sorry!) Even better, you're tempted by the gift shop/book store first, and again after. Could have spent LOTS of money, but it was worth it without souvenirs. I saw this place on social media, so I took my boyfriend here to check it out. It was a fun interactive experience, and we also enjoyed learning a little about the history of surveillance and espionage. We answered the questions for our spy profiles at home, which got us really excited for the museum, and while it saved us some time, it would have been more immersive to do it at Spyscape. Some of the interactive exhibits (like lie detection and code breaking) were clearly meant for a younger audience. The surveillance room was a good challenge though! But our favorite part of the whole museum was the laser room. We're both competitive people, so it was so fun going through the room together a few times trying to get the high score. If you enjoy running and sliding around obstacles, make sure you wear clothes that you're comfortable moving around in! read more

Spy scape after taxes was close to $80 for two people. Was it fun and interactive? Yes. Was it worth $40/person? Absolutely no. I think it'll be more worth it for $25. This review is for the spy experience. My friend and I (both 30-somethings) decided to check it out -- from reading the reviews, we were worried that it might be aimed more at kids and teens. Happily, we found that it was a lot of fun even as adults. The experience is a combination museum and interactive set of exhibits. Everything is tied together through RFID wristbands that you wear. I was impressed by the quality of the exhibits and the interactive "challenges" interspersed throughout the area. The museum spans one floor of the building, and we spent about 90 minutes exploring and completing the activities, which included a laser hallway challenge, a surveillance activity, a lie detector activity, and more. Overall we found it quite fun for a group of adults. I think teens would also enjoy it; kids younger than that might struggle to engage with some of the activities. read more

Spyscape was a surprisingly fun, interactive museum that me and my friend visited the other week. We needed something to do, not too long, not too short, so we decided to try this place out! We ordered our tickets online but it wasn't packed on the Sunday we went. If you're in the area, it might be worth checking out because we walked right in. The visuals of this place are pretty good, the decor and the interactive games and play stations are good for any age, with historic artifacts and information placed in between the 5 interactions. We have to admit, we aren't into history so we sped through it, but you could definitely spend one or two hours here if you like to stop and look. Overall, the staff were nice and great at explaining the activities and where to go next. For $34 we are going to rate Spyscape 4/5 because there's a lot to do, and the addition of the 007 exhibit was a nice surprise that topped off our fun visit, but it's a one-timer for me. This museum is great for all ages, and in my opinion much bigger & nicer than other museums like the museum of illusions, etc. If you want to get out of the house and do something fun, Spyscape is a wonderful option! read more

A definite five stars from my daughter and I! When we were planning our trip to NYC I threw in the term "espionage" into Google on a whim. I was so glad to have found this place. Ironically, I had just started listening to the SPYSCAPE podcast maybe a week earlier. I love the podcast and this adventure so much! This is for Spygames, which is the new "exhibit" they were beta-testing. It's a separate ticket system than the actual museum, which I haven't been to. Tickets were $15, which I found to be a reasonable price for the entertainment out of this. It gives you 45 minutes of experience and you can buy more time to stay longer. I don't think it's worth it for any higher price. It's more of an activity based experience, where there are bunch of different rooms and you "score" points. There are prizes, but they're not worth it - just like online accessories for your avatar profile or 30 mins of extra time / merch if you get a lot of points. I think the concept is cool, but the execution and games could be better. Many rooms would go in and out of service during the time period or just plain broken the whole time. The games: one with buttons on a wall and you press certain colors, one with tiles on the ground and you step on certain colors, one with moving circle lights on the ground that you step one, one that's like the throwing carnival game and you throw balls at targets, one with lasers where you run across the room and avoid, and apparently a rock climbing one that was broken. The time you spend waiting counts against your time, which is frustrating since some games have long lines and you're paying for the actual minutes. The staff were also incredibly rude and not friendly at all. They talked to you like you are a child and have this weird intercom radio system where they hunt you down that seems like overkill. read more

My visit to the Spy Museum was an absolute blast! The interactive games were a highlight, especially the one where we got to hit balls against a wall - talk about a great way to release some pent-up energy and have some fun! And then there was the game where we had to run around and step on colors - it was like a workout for both body and mind! Once you're done with the interactive games, you go into a spy mode. One of my favorites was encrypting messages as a spy & doing different activities that a spy would. I don't want to give it all away but when you go in, BE PRESENT & let your inner child play!! What I loved most about the museum was how it engaged all aspects of our being - mind, body, and soul. It was thrilling to be constantly on the move, deciphering clues, and completing challenges. It definitely kept everyone on their toes in the best way possible. Overall, the Spy Museum provided a truly unforgettable experience that combined excitement, physical activity, and mental stimulation. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a day filled with adventure and fun! I would come back with a date or girls day/early night activity! Super fun!! FYI: Also as a bonus, at the end of the spy experience, there's an evaluation as to what type of spy you would make based on these activities you do throughout your time there. ~$20 per adult, super fun immersive exhibits and museum. We went without purchasing tickets ahead of time, but when we got there, the front desk girls gave us a code for a bogo, so we ended up paying a lot less than expected. My cousin told us about this place and it was not something I have heard about before. It was super cool though, half a spy museum and half an interactive exhibit. You get to go through all the informational exhibits and do all these tests throughout the entire thing, a mix of puzzles and personality tests and at the end they'll tell you what job you would have if you worked in the spy industry. They also had a free coat check at the beginning which was nice to put our big bulky coats away. I would definitely recommend, not only was it super informational, but also super fun interactive exhibits! read more

My husband and I had a blast at Spyscape! The only bad thing is that I answered my questions before arrival and he did not, so he had to do it there, which meant I was waiting for him! Besides that, we both had a great time! I booked the tickets, not realizing that this was a museum, whereas I thought it was a spy adventure. This was a positive for me because I LOVE museums. This one is an interactive museum. We got to do encryption activities, and CCTV (surveillance), and the best one was the laser room (because I can't remember what they called it). We had to avoid the lasers and push as many buttons as we could, and man that was fun times! I was so out of breath by the time we made it to the end! We discovered what type of spies we were (he was in technical operations, and I was a Spycatcher) Which fit totally in line with our personalities. Spent two days in NY and heard that Spyscape was a fun indoor activity to get out of the hot and humid summer weather for a couple hours. I honestly think this place was my favorite stop on the whole trip! So fun! You have the chance to learn about famous code breakers, hackers, and spies, see a lot of cool gear (like a James Bond car, a Lamborghini Batmobile, and WW2 code breaking machines), and do a lot of fun activities (including a surveillance game, lie detector training, laser maze, and more). Spyscape does a fantastic job combining elements of education and entertainment in a way that helps you appreciate the stories in the museum. I walked away fascinated with some of the WW2 stories and having an internal dialogue on the role of big data and whether or not it's good for companies and the government to collect so much. For as long as I can remember, I've dreamed of being Bond, Jo Bond. I used to walk around in primary school asking for my juice to be shaken not stirred. This caused a great deal of consternation among several of my teachers, until they met my mother at Parent-Teacher Night (the most sober woman on the planet), and realized I was just...highly evolved. Or devolved? Anywho, I came here with a fun group of friends to unleash our inner 8yos. Okay, maybe 18yos, cuz you gotta be rather nimble to be a spy. The standout section was the one where you press all the light buttons (forget the name). I could've done that for hours. The memory game (with the many screens), was also a nice reminder that senility runs in my family, and maybe I should eat more fish oil. At the end, I was told by the system that my ideal role would be a Spy Manager or something like that. I think they got that wrong. I suck at people management. My spies would probably die from neglect. Then I wouldn't get my bonus. :/ read more

The whole concept of this place is a mix of educational, cool, and childish (but in an "I'm an adult living my childhood fantasy" kind of way). That being said, this museum is interactive and great for all ages. You have adults like me running around dodging lasers and 8 year-olds detecting liars. One of my favorite rooms was the surveillance one where you had to pay attention to all screens and identify different people or objects. One thing puzzling about this exhibition is that although there are more than 8 missions, you are only allowed to do 8. I am referring to the booths with surveys/activities on the screen, not the interactive stuff. The interactive stuff I believe you could do as many times as you like (my friend and I went through the laser room 3 times). There is a spacious gift shop and cafe at the end. I have recommended Spyscape to my friends and they have equally loved their experience here as much as I did. read more

I went to spyscape with my boyfriend a few weekends ago and had SO much more fun than anticipated! It's such a cool experience. We went when it was raining and it's definitely a great activity to do on a really hot or rainy day. You definitely have to go at your reservation time, otherwise they usually make you wait. Once you enter, you get a band with an electric tag that gathers your information throughout the museum. At different stations, you scan your tag and answer questions that help build your spy profile. At the end, it calculates everything and tells you what type of spy you would be and thats pretty neat! Staff is also friendly and will answer your questions thoroughly. We paid $40 per ticket (including the James Bond exhibit, which I totally recommend) because we were both students at the time. I think regular tickets are $10-$15 more per person (pretty standard price for most things in NYC). We ended up spending 3 full hours inside and were preoccupied almost the entire time, it was way longer than I thought. The laser room was definitely my favorite part of this museum. There's usually a long line for this attraction (we waited an hour because it was really crowded when we went) but it's so worth it!! Also the James Bond exhibit is fun for die hard fans and for people that don't know much about the movies either. If you're going to visit spyscape you might as well just gain entry into this part of it as well, it is pretty fun. The entire thing is interactive which makes the museum more worthwhile. Of course, we did some reading (as it is a museum) but overall it was really fun! If they ever have new installments, I would go again. It's fun for all ages! read more

It was a rainy day in NY so my friends, and I decided to find something to do indoors. We saw pictures of spyscape, and we wanted to check it out. We were looking between the general admission or general admission with the 007 exhibition. We opted for general admission. The person helping us gave us a coupon code for a discount for our tickets, which we appreciated! There are different stations that you need to complete to "your spy profile", which you will find out what kind of "spy" category you fall into. Throughout the stations, there were 3 different screens where you could play various games. I enjoyed the laser and surveillance challenge the most! Also, we enjoy the educational videos, which highlight the history of spies and advances in technology. It took us around 2 hours to complete/watch everything, but you could stay longer with an indoor cafe and gift shop. Thought it was a cool experience! read more

As I walked to the American Museum of Natural History 20 minutes before it opened, I saw a line that went to the end of the street. One glance and I "noped" out of there. I just didn't want to deal with the large crowds so I wanted something else. A quick search for other museums led me to Spyscape which seemed interesting so I bit the bullet. General admission is $47. There was also the 007 exhibit but I didn't have a lot of time to do that. After you purchase a ticket you get an identity band on your wrist to use to take some tests to determine what kind of spy you are. You walk around the museum reading about different topics like encryption, deception, and intelligence. You learn about the history of spies and the progression and development of spy equipment. You learn about the use of spy equipment in wars in history. There are some challenges and activities that are very interactive and engaging. At the end you get your spy profile to see what spy role would best fit you. It's really like a personality test and it was pretty accurate for me. Overall it took an hour and a half for me to get through all of it. The subject itself is more appealing and interesting to me than natural history so I'm glad I came here instead. I had the most WONDERFUL experience at Spyscape. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Not only were the people AMAZING, but the museum and the games were just way too much fun and interesting. I personally made a mistake due to not reading the website correctly, so I ended up purchasing two tickets instead of one (I was going alone), assuming it was for both areas of Spyscape. I was fully mentally prepared to lose the money, but management was kind enough to offer me a refund. I even got a free hat out of the experience? Which was just too kind? They helped me pair up with another family (a celebrity which was another cool experience), so I was able to play Spy Games. Overall, they were incredibly accommodating, incredibly professional, and incredibly kind. Ira specifically went above and beyond to make my first solo trip to New York memorable, and I will be thinking about this trip for a long time. This place is both a spy museum and an interactive game. As you enter, you are given a wristband that you must scan on the various exhibits. The place is split up into several sections that each concentrate on certain fields of spying - encryption, surveillance, hacking, and more. Each section has information and artifacts that give you a history of that field. For example, the hacking section shows famous cases of hackers. The real fun is the interactive experience. As you make your way throughout the place, you are presented with games that will determine how good of a spy you are. There are personality tests you must complete. But the real highlights for me were the laser room (where you must avoid lasers and hit sensors on the wall) and the surveillance room (where you must identify the targets on the monitors). Great, kitschy experience. You go in and you're given a bracelet to wear, which contains your ID for the games. The museum is very interactive, with everything from small personality tests to problem solving games. The interactive nature of the exhibits is really where this place shines. The laser room is very cool. At the end via email you get your spy profile and even a video of you in the laser room. I personally loved the exhibit about reviewing surveillance cameras. It does feel cool to use your ID bracelet to 'unlock" the games. While I didn't use it, they have lockers (free, I think) where you can store bulky jackets, etc. Some of the interactive games I notice have canned responses. For example, there was one about identifying deception and I later realized even if I gave completely nonsense answers, the response from the machine was the same. Bond exhibit was nice (I am personally not a Bond fan, but I went with someone who is a Bond fan and they loved it). They have the model car used in the films and while you can't go in it, you can get really close to it which is nice. Overall, I can't say I learned a ton about spying here, so I would say if you are coming here for a more academic perspective on spies, you will be disappointed, but if you just wanna let your inner spy out, this is a fun place to spend a few hours. read more

My 8yo was enjoying himself but in the he asked "is that all?". I know for kids is never enough but I think more activities could help them to attract more visitors. They have a lot of very interactive exhibits about espionage, it's history in the United States, as well as information about what spy skills you as the visitor have. Spyscape was one of my favorite experiences when visiting the city. We all went into it not knowing what it was about but every worker we encountered from the front door to the very end were all kind and enthusiastic. The place was pretty busy with both kids and adults. There were a lot of interactive and hands on activities that we enjoyed. All exhibits and activities are recorded onto the wristband given. It was fun seeing your results and compare them to your friends after! The experience took around 2 hours and you can go at your own pace so I recommend making sure you have enough time to enjoy the full experience! read more
