This was one of the coolest things I have ever done in New York City! It seamlessly combined art, music, and a vibrant social atmosphere to create a night such a "star" experience. You don't need to be an experienced, songwriter, singer, or performer. Everyone at Flo social guides you through the process and helps you and each of those areas. The most important thing is to have fun and to support the group that you go with. You may think you don't have the chops for it, but you would be surprised at what you're capable of when music engineers like @Fillythakid (Instagram) are working their magic! I don't want the whole experience to be a spoiler, but I couldn't recommend this enough. Shy people welcome, trust me. The artists at Flo Social won't pressure you to do anything but if they see you're working on some thing they'll sit next to you and help you out. They will even be in the booth with you. But if you don't want to sing or perform in any way, you can always sit back, watch the group, perform, and grab some drinks. What's behind the facade of 723 7th Avenue is history, magical, invigorating...Quad Studios. For sure one of the coolest places for a music buff to see and be a part of. Our FreeFlo team, full of excitement, enthusiasm and knowledge began to work their magic engaging the group and getting their creativity to flow. In no time, the lyrics were flo'in and the girls were in the booth recording. Pots & Pans made sure that we all took part - me, my little one (6), my cousin and best friend all dropped a line or two on the track. With the girls all in, the enthusiasm high and the fun and creativity off the charts, I extended our party an hour. We spent 3 short hours with Louis, Phil and Alexander. Writing, laughing, singing, cheering each other on, creating and recording a track, "Summer Life!" It was EPIC, pure magic! **An unsurpassable experience** I've NEVER written an online business review but I'm completely blown away by FreeFlo. My family and I had the most fun and unique experience this weekend writing and recording an original song in a professional studio to commemorate our daughter's 10th birthday. Our group ranged from age 7 to 69 and everyone loved it! We're not creative types but Louis, Brian and team worked some sort of sorcery magic that kept us loose and got us fully immersed in the experience. Admittedly, I was a skeptic about this whole thing. I was completely disinterested in going into a recording studio for a "team building activity" to rap. Because neither of those things are my kinda things, y'know? That being said: this was one of the coolest experiences I've ever been a part of. I've never done anything like it, and I can't believe how jealous all my friends back home were when I told them about it. Who knew? WorkFlo did. That's who. There was this moment when the light switch of Trust was flicked on. Here's what I mean: the WorkFlo guys are genuinely extremely friendly (and oh-so-cool), and they were sitting in a circle with us freestyling. Suddenly they started calling on some of us to join in. I don't know if they knew ahead of time who would be okay with that kind of spotlight, or if they're just *that* damn good at reading the room, but several of us who were initially pretty uncomfortable by the whole thing were not called on. That's the moment. That's the moment I knew I was in a safe, non-judgemental space. Because: participating was optional. I could just hang out and be a cheerleader, or I could jump in if I wanted. They are supportive and encouraging - they're like the rivers of a bank gently guiding you through the entire process; if you just wanna be left alone, they do that. If you basically want them to write your lyrics for you, they'll do that too. In the end, I *did* write a very quick little ditty (surely the kids are not calling it that these days), and even went first! And #SheGotItInOneTakeFolks My ego has been wildly inflated since, and I believe I'm the next rap superstar. I've even written some more lyrics that I wish I could have come up with in the moment. Since I have no other outlet for this creative genius, I'm gonna leave them here (it's about my obsession with Maine, where I'm from). Pre-Covid review! Workflo... where do I even start? This was the most fun that I've ever had during a team building activity, if not one of the most fun things that I've ever done, period. I'll admit that going in, I was nervous. Rapping, let alone rapping in front of some of my co-workers... eh. Can't we just do a wine tasting or a cooking class instead? I know I'm pretty good at eating and drinking wine. I couldn't have been any more wrong. The team at Workflo goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and confident. The session starts out in a cozy living room area with a ton of snacks and drinks (liquid courage). Drinks and snacks are included in a the price, and the team put together a delicious spread with lots of apps, charcuterie, wine, beer and champs. One of the best things about Workflo is that you don't just show up and start to rap. Everyone sits around a table and the Workflo team spends time teaching everyone about technique and style. They freestyle a couple of verses and then give everyone some time to write their own verses and practice (while they come around and help). Then they help the group come up with one universal chorus and a beat. By the time I hopped into the recording booth I was already armed with my verse and felt a lot more confident. On top of that, someone from Workflo will even help walk you through recording while you are in the booth. They'll let you have as many takes as you need to get it right. The recording studio is so legit and the quality is super professional. When I heard the recorded version of myself I truly never thought I could sound like that. They also add on really fun sound effects to make it super legit. Within 24 hours my team had a super high quality recording of our song emailed out to us! I went from being nervous about rapping to wanting to show anyone and everyone my rap. Luckily I was here right before the holidays, because I obviously had to share this with my entire family (sorry not sorry for the cursing, Grandma). Does the thought of rapping a verse that you wrote yourself in front of your colleagues in a professional recording studio send you into an actual panic attack? Same! I was terrified, and like many people may tell you, not totally looking forward to this experience. But also like those same people will tell you, I started having so much fun nearly immediately. The spanakopita helped. B-Yoo, JPro, Lewis and the rest of the team did an amazing job making everyone feel like they were just hanging out with friends. They definitely recognized that people were officially not in the comfort zone and somehow by the end of the night, every single person in our group was on the track. Not only did they get each of us in the booths, but we all truly wanted to do it. I don't know if I can convey how certain I was that I would not rap. But then thought I'd just write some verses, and then thought I'd just go over those lyrics with one of the guys, and then (out of nowhere) I was actually standing in the booth as the rest of my team stared at me as I wrapped lyrics that I wrote. I was TERRIBLE. But I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was so much fun and now we actually have this very cool thing to look back on and say we created. I'll be honest. Team building activities have never really been my jam and I've been known (with the approval of my team) to opt for longer, more elaborate dinners instead of escaping a room or wandering through a wine mansion. You can only throw so many axes (and miss. Every single time. Do people really have fun doing that?) These types of activities are also typically expensive. And often corny. Until now. My mind is blown by how much I enjoyed our team building activity at Workflo. Interestingly enough, only 4 people (including me) on my team of 11 were super gung ho on the idea. The rest were on the spectrum of, "Ok, I'll suffer through this," to "I'm fucking terrified and will not be rapping under any circumstance." I'll end the suspense right here: within minutes of the guys' introductions and thoroughly inspiring freesyle rap, I looked around the room and see everyone furiously jotting down their rhymes, even though the guys assured us that participation is entirely voluntary (spoiler alert: NO ONE will sit out the opportunity). By the end of four hours, the entire room had gone HAM on the mic and we kind of had to be dragged out of the place. It was seriously one of the best times ever. There is nothing like a collaborative creative effort to bring out the best in everyone. Note: Given the good feels, fun and creative magic, why limit this to a work event? I can see this being an incredibly fun activity for anything from a date to a bachelor/ette party to a family reunion to a group of friends just wanting to put something together. Simply put, these guys are magic. They made each and every single one of us feel like a rock star. As a writer who is often a victim of cripling writer's block, I was extra impressed with how they sat with each one of us to bring out the best. They do as much hand-holding as you need so that the finished product sounds incredible. I strongly suspect that one day they are going to need to grow their team to be able to accommodate their growing business. There's nothing like this out there right now! Get on this, friends. I can't think of a single team-building/friendship celebrating activity that can be more rewarding than Workflo. read more
