I wish this place had been decent enough to not have the regret of wasting my hard earned money on food and atmosphere that was unsatisfying and irritating. The staff that was finished with their shifts hung out at the bar in uniform ranting and raving about all of the personal things going on in their lives disturbing us the entire time. This visit here has been extremely difficult for my man as his pops is dying from cancer and all we needed was a delicious meal ( the first one of the day for us both at 9pm) and a caring staff to be conscious of the customers. The food was bad from start to finish. Turtle soup tasted canned, steak special was super tough, broccoli had turned black, asparagus had the tough pieces left on the bottom, and coleslaw looked old and wilted. My fiancée ordered the veal ravioli which was the most decent of all of our items but still not good. Watery sauce and served cold. The best part of this was meeting Dan our server and his willingness to try and make things right for us. I believe Dan is swimming upstream in a restaurant that has the exact opposite of his core values. We would like to express our extreme distaste (literally) in this restaurant overall and implore the owner/manager to take some advice from a server who cares like Dan and change the ways things are conducted here. I would like to say the mixed drinks were yummy and creative. Thankful for that. I'll begin by saying the food is great here and this restaurant has been a family favorite for years. The reason for this poor review is due to poor customer service. My mother recently passed away and this being her favorite local restaurant I thought it would be nice to host her memorial dinner here. I called the event coordinator on Saturday and left a voicemail explaining my situation. Unfortunately she did not have the curtsey to return my call for 5 DAYS! When we spoke I told her unfortunately had to make other accommodations and her response was well that's ok because we were already booked that day. We are normally big fans of Springfield Grille for dinner so we decided to try their Sunday brunch. Terrible idea. Not very many items to choose from to begin with. I got the banana walnut French toast and my husband got the steak and eggs. Brunch comes with a complimentary champagne or mimosa and fresh fruit and a muffin. The fresh fruit consisted of not ripe honeydew and about 5 sour blueberries. Not at all what we thought of for "fresh fruit". The muffin was probably the best of our entire meal. The French toast was basically 3 slices of warmed banana bread with Hersey syrup drizzled on top with melted whipped cream. I'm assuming the Hersey syrup was to take the place of maple syrup because there was none. It also came with 2 thinly sliced pieces of bacon and hash browns. The steak in the steak in eggs was not a very good piece of meat, very fatty. Only good thing is that it was cooked correctly. Poached eggs were average. The coffee was way too hot to enjoy. We noticed another table had French press coffee. We were not offered nor aware this was even an option. Our service was subpar as well. We were there way longer than we should have been. We will never return for brunch but I'm sure we will be back for dinner. read more

We walked in the door at noon today. The greeter was at her podium on the phone having a personal conversation. The conversation went on for 3 minutes while we waited for her to acknowledge our presence (2 other parties entered as we waited). She spoke of her pending divorce and other personal issues while we waited patiently for a seat. What a poor introduction to your establishment. Ordered the Grilled Scottish Salmon which consisted of a tasteless, skimpy piece of salmon 5" in length and 1.5" in width which was accompanied by three 1/2" slices of a potato along with a skimpy "house salad" consisting solely of wilted lettuce and a few strings of sliced onion for $25, nothing more, nothing less... Other order was the Zing Chicken consisting of chicken breast slices over super spicy rigatoni seasoned with sooo much hot pepper that made it almost inedible also served with a "house salad" consisting solely of wilted lettuce and a few strings of sliced onion for $16... The low quality of food for the price would dictate my overall low rating. Will not be back... Too many other great restaurants to choose from in this area... read more

I called in a carry out order, which I was told would take 40 minutes to complete the order on a Wednesday evening. When I arrived,there was a guy behind the bar, which is where you go to pick up carry out orders in this establishment, and he was talking and drinking with a group of four people or so at the other end of the bar. He never even looked down the bar once in the 10 minutes or so that he was standing there to see if anyone else needed anything. Finally, a woman came from the kitchen and asked if she could help me. I had ordered their pollo asiago and was honestly expecting something more unique and tasty. It turned out to be more of a sub par chicken Parmesan type entrée. If I didn't know it was called pollo Asiago, I would've called it chicken Parmesan. It was supposed to come with angel hair pasta, but they used regular spaghetti instead. There was supposed to be pan seared chicken medallions, but there was just one chunk of chicken. The sauce wasn't anything to write home about. I am not a fan of all Olive Garden, but I'd have to say the chicken Parmesan there is way better than this one. I would not have ordered the entrée if I thought it was going to taste similar to chicken Parmesan and it wasn't even a good one at that. They didn't even prepare it as stated on the menu. read more

The Springfield Grille is a steak House in the Poland area. It is very dark inside very heavy furniture and decor. The food is is good if you like a lot of meat. But if you were a vegetarian or like fish the options are extremely limited and everything is heavily sauce or fried. There isn't a lot of the menu for healthier options are for people who are trying to eat light. Those of us that are vegetarians don't always want to eat just a salad. read more

I placed a carry out order for hazelnut creme chicken. I waited about 15 minutes at the bar before someone asked if they could help me and the bar wasn't even busy...Lots of empty chairs. The guy behind the bar was drinking wine with a couple of customers at the other end and didn't seem to care about anyone else...not service oriented at all. I am have been to many "fine dining" places in the city and this one I have heard good things about. I personally was not a fan of the atmosphere, or the lighting. I ignored this and thought the food would be good. Boy was I wrong. I told my waitress about the food tasting frozen and the waitress defends the cook like they are married or something. She basically told me my taste buds were the issue and the cook is excellent. Like the guy is a bonafide 5 star restaurant chef. He is not. The prices? Not good. Pretty high prices for what we got, and a smaller portion than most places I've been to. The service? Spotty. She was ok until we brought up our issue with the frozen tasting food. After that she came to my table maybe one time? Perhaps they will be better in the future. But for someone else because I won't come back. read more

I shake my head in disbelief regarding anyone who gives this place fewer than 4 stars. Frankly, except for the rare, sub-par experience, I can't even understand a 4-star rating. I've eaten here hundreds (probably 1,000+) times from 2000 until present. It's not perfect, but it's my favorite restaurant in Youngstown. The location is close to the major retail sector, but just far enough off the beaten path. The decor is about as classy as you'll find in the Youngstown area, while being casual enough to dress in shorts and flip-flops and feel completely comfortable sitting down at the bar. With few exceptions, the food is interesting, flavorful and the specials are always changing. The staff behaves with class, but they're simultaneously "real" and willing to be fun. You can get out of here for under $10 for lunch, or spend $100 on an elaborate dinner. From burgers to surf and turf, you can go cheap or spend your bank. Some people think the place is pretentious and/or over-priced. Neither could be more inacculate. I think these people are used to fast food, got a gift certificate to eat here ONCE, and their idea of a high class night out is Applebee's. read more

My family and I have been going here since I can remember. Unfortunately it has gone down hill on recent years. Our most recent visit was one of the worst. We had called in a reservation for 8 a few weeks prior. When my sister had called to remove 2 of the seats they said they had no record of this reservation and were kind of shitty about it. Upon arrival everything seemed fine. We orders appetizers, salad/soup and our food as normal. 20 minutes later our salads and soup came out which was kind strange because the appetizers usually come out first. Maybe 15 minutes later we asked about the appetizers and the waitress completely forgot about them. Another 15 minutes later our appetizers AND meals came out at the same time. Most were good, however some were not. My sister ordered something with hollandaise sauce that came out as cold scrambled eggs. I had orded some kind of filet tip pasta, medium rare and they were well done shoe leather. Although they were very apologetic we were all very put off by our experience deciding not to return. When I'm in town, this is our family's top choice for steak and seafood. We can count on having a satisfying meal with good service. We had a 9 PM reservation for 7 on a Saturday night and were seated immediately upon arrival. Becky was our server and did a fine job despite being busy and with minimal help. She stayed on top of things all night. The timing and flow of the meal was just right. I did have to fill my own wine glass from the carafe for the entire meal and we had to wait on some refills, but it was no biggie at all. The menu has a wide selection with steaks and seafood at the forefront. There is also an additional menu for daily specials. Many dishes have different international influences which can be bad if not executed correctly. Springfield Grille consistently does well. They are also very welcoming in modifying dishes as desired. Entrees come with two sides. I enjoy their house salad: mixed greens, bleu cheese, candied almonds, onion, and honey balsamic dressing. I had the filet medallions with asparagus and hollandaise from the daily special menu. The beef was cooked perfectly and my plate was completely clean when I finished. The table also ordered: 3-way cod, pot pie, sea scallops, Thai seafood stew, pepper bleu sirloin, and strawberry and macadamia salad. The soup du jour was broccoli cheddar and my daughter actually had a second cup after she finished her meal. For dessert: peanut butter fantasy, ho ho cake, and apple pie ala mode. I thought I had reviewed Springfield already but I guess not so here goes. I've eaten here several times and the food has always been top notch. Their calamari appetizer is very good and one of the best I've had in the area. I've had the turtle soup twice in lieu of a salad and its been quite good. Unlike some of the other reviews, I put the sherry in the soup and I think it makes the dish. Every entree I have tried has been really good and they always have a nice selection of desserts. One of the other highlights for me is the service. We've had the same waitress several times but unfortunately I don't recall her name. She really came through for us when, two nights before Thanksgiving we showed up with 8 people but a reservation mistakenly made for 7. Without missing a beat the waitress jumped in to help the hostess make room for our extra and we had a great dining experience for our out of town guests. read more

Went for dinner with a friend. Haven't been there since Dec 2019. Menu has really been pared down. We ordered linguini with clams and pasta with chicken. Both were just OK. No pizazz, nothing exciting. Mine was just chicken with marinara over pasta. No garnish, no cheese and no flavor. Service was fine but our booth had some sort of tray stand next to it and every time it was used it would slam into the booth, make a loud bang and scare the crap out of us. I know that finding vegetarian food in Youngstown can be a challenge, but I found it especially difficult at Springfield Grille. The marinara sauce contains chicken stock and unless you want a salad, you're kind of out of luck. I asked the waitress if they could accommodate my dietary needs and she got huffy so I went with a salad and a plain baked potato. My default meal of choice in restaurants that aren't vegetarian friendly. Weep womp. My salad wasn't even so hot. I ordered the macadamia nut salad with strawberries and white chocolate shavings in a vanilla bean dressing. I love sugar, but this was too much for me. I felt like I was eating a vanilla bean with a sugar packet. It was not good. I felt like none of the flavors really complemented each other. At least my baked potato was ok. I had no say in picking this restaurant since we were in town for a relative's birthday, but if I have the option to go back in the future, I think I'll pass. read more

The atmosphere is upscale but casual, quiet and comfortable. The place is well appointed with a number of secluded tables and booths. Its very clean, service was impeccable and un-rushed (I hate having food shoved down my throat). I had the Bruschetta appetizer, and the roasted artichoke pesto chicken pasta for my main dish. They were both very good. I have some points of critique that I would be remiss if I did not mention. The chicken was a bit over done (dry) I felt that the rest of the dish more than made up for it, and my caesar salad was anything but (a caesar). The salad was fresh, but it was not a caesar. Don't let the critical lines above dissuade you, I liked this place well and would certainly return if I am drawn back to Youngstown. read more

This is a chain. You can feel it upon entering the establishment. This was by far the most decorated restaurant in Youngstown that I have visited so far (i.e. you can take clients here if you need to take them to a place wth some ambiance). The restaurant offers a daily menu that has the special items of the day. I tried the Rub Prime Rib, which comes in 12 oz cut and 16 oz cut, that was the special of the day. It was served with grilled onions, horse radish (if you request it), and au jus plus one side. The prime rib was alright. I also had the chocolate volcano. It was the most interesting looking item on the dessert tray (which the server would leave on your table for an indefinite amount of time...perhaps to entice you to steal a bite while you try to make your choice) nevertheless, it was just ok. So an ok steak and an ok dessert hence the ok rating. read more

Springfield Grille: My wife took me out to the Springfield Grille as part of my Christmas gift this year, a choice as wise as she is charming and beautiful. As luck would have it, we happened to be in attendance on half-price wine night (Mondays), and had a very helpful acquaintance as our server. Not a bad way to start things off. Though it's not on the actual menu, Springfield has excellent turtle soup (with a side of sherry). We also shared the lamb chops w/ garlic orzo as an appetizer, which was seasoned and grilled to perfection. The wine list is good, and especially worth sampling when it's at half price. If I remember correctly, my entree was titled "Chesapeake Chicken", which featured panko-breaded chicken topped with lump crab meat. It was crisp, rich and delicious. The prices are very good for the quality of food and the service - I'd probably put them in the "fine dining" class when it comes to the entrees. Fortunately, their burgers/sandwiches are priced low enough for an everyday bite. The food and atmosphere are spot on - one of the best in the Youngstown area. Springfield Grille has never been one of my favorite restaurants in the Boardman area. I love the building and the decor is very nice but I have never been impressed by any of the meals I have eaten there. I have also been to parties there and didn't think they were that great either for food or service. The party room is pretty small and you get packed into it. Nicolinni's down the street is much better. I do think that they have a pretty nice arugula and beet salad with chicken. That has been the only thing I have ever really liked on the menu. Parking is pretty abundant and never an issue. Definitely think there are better options in town though. read more

I am visiting the area on business and asked the hotel clerk at the Hampton Inn, where a good place to eat was. She sent us to the Springfeild house with high recommendations! There were a lot less people than the parking lot made us assume and we were seated right when we walked in even though we had a difficult time finding parking. For all the kindness the hostess was lacking out waitress more then made up for it! The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and we actually felt a little under dressed. First she walked us through the 10+ season beers they had on tap. Then we ordered the Ahi Tuna appetizer which for medium rare was a little over cooked for what I had ordered. However it was still delicious. Next my dad ordered the Turtle soup which the chef handed out with a shot of sherry to make the soup less spicy if you thought it needed it. I did not. I ordered the spicy sausage gumbo which was pretty good but left something to be desired! Next came out salads. My dad ordered the house salad and me the Russian wedge salad which was amazing and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Lastly, our entrées. I ordered the chicken jumbolya which was very good and my dad ordered the bolognese which he devoured!! I highly recommend this restaurant especially compared to the outbacks and chills that are littered through this part of town as it is something you can't find anywhere else! They did have a very diverse menu and there were many different choices that I'm sure would have been delicious! To start, they always have a fresh pot of spicy turtle soup, but I don't think it is on their menu. It is the most delicious, unique dish around. They serve it with a shot sherry. DON'T POUR THE SHERRY INTO THE SOUP. OK, I just wanted to make sure that if you only read one part of this review that it was to try to turtle soup. You can't beat this place; you just can't. I had my first ever martini there (roughly a billion martinis ago), and it has been my favorite place for all the years since. There is a lovely bar area that tends to be pretty packed with a polite, middle-aged crowd. The dining area is full of seating that keeps you removed from the other patrons. Throughout, the decor is beautiful with art and artifacts that most places just wouldn't bother to have. Of the thousand times that I've been to Springfield, I've had wonderful service every time but once, which was when I took my soon-to-be-wife there on our first date (if their private room seated more than 40, we'd be having our rehearsal dinner there). Other than that, it's always been marked by their unyielding efforts to make our visit perfect. The food at Springfield is outstanding. Order to taste, but I've never had a meal there that wasn't worth the price and then some. read more

Nothing to complain about here. Our experience here was really good. We started off with drinks and the artichoke dip appetizer at the bar which was delicious. I ordered the 16oz ribeye with smashed redskins and and a ceaser salad. They actually had anchovies for it which was a plus. My wife had the fillet with a crab cakes and ceaser. The crab cake was fanominal! Probably the best thing we had all night. Finished the dinner with the red velvet cheesecake. Delicious! Our waitress was really good and professional.
