It is ILLEGAL to charge a patron for use of his own money DEBIT. Look it up; a CC yes, not a debit! Mother's day 2026 Pros and Cons. Pros - reservation time seated right away, no waiting. Bread and pepers in oil served with the meal (a favorite) Limited menu with enough choices and food came fast and most part food way good. Cons - small portion for broiled salmon like two table spoons of greens and beans as a side and ceasar side salad that was barely average. They charged me a nearly 4% fee for using my debit card, which is ILLEGAL. CHARGING ME TO US MY OWN MONEY? A CC, okay but NOT a debit! See research in pictures. Plus 18.00 tax and gratuity it put me over another 50.00. Will not be going back, they care only about giving less for more. Teaching their staff even after questioning this practice they say yes, same as CC. read more

I will start with the ambience, it was fantastic, the booths were comfortable, and the music was good. The service was professional, but slow. Related to the food, started with a calamari appetizer, and it was overcooked to the point where it was like eating crispy onions. It was not tender, nor was it hydrated enough since it was over fried. I would not recommend the calamari. Next the meatball appetizer, the sauce was appropriate and ample, however, not seasoned well. The meatballs were unseasoned and needed way too much salt to say that they were appropriately made. They lacked depth and were very flat. Onto the filet masala; the flavor of the sauce was good, and the mushrooms were cooked well and tasted very good. Unfortunately, the meat did not seem tender at all like a filet should be, I'm almost wondering if it was not a filet, but something masked as a fillet. It also lacked a tremendous amount of depth and flavor by itself as well. When I do these reviews, I like to be open and honest. I do have to complement this establishment on two things; first, the salad both dressings the champagne and the balsamic were delicious. They also did a tremendous job on their homemade bread. Very very good. Overall, I'm going to give this a rating of two out of five stars however. When you combine the price and taste of all of the appetizers and main course, it's just not worth it. The flavor in general was just lacking. If you want to go there for bread and salad I would highly recommend. read more

Overall good but don't get a lot for the price. It's a solid local restaurant with a variety of options.

Stood at front in waiting area for awhile til anyone acknowledged us, to say "just give me a minute." Sure not in a rush, we can wait. We were seated. Girl handed us menus and asked if we were ready to order. (I hadn't even taken off my coat yet.). We said we would need a moment. Several minutes later she asked what we wanted to drink. 2 ordered only water and 2 ordered a soda as well. They brought some water about 5+ minutes later. And took our orders. 5-10 min later they brought bread (it is very good.) That was consumed and we sat with our waters waiting on the appetizers we ordered. Which came and went (being fair the fried mozzarella cheese was delicious). When the apps came, I reminded them 2 of us had ordered soda. The girl gave me a line that she knew guest X in our party had ordered a soda (she hadn't ordered one, only water). And the waitress said she didn't hear us order any sodas. Then she also pointed at Guest X's empty water glass and said "she drank her soda already.!" --- again she never ordered soda and never got a soda. After asking 2 more time and eventually a different waitress walking by, we got our 2 sodas as we were halfway through the meal. So in the middle of all that we did get our soups/ salads, which I believe have been mentioned in prior posts. The pasta fagoili was somehow very spicy but lacking all flavor, not to mention it had obviously sat in a pot all day (maybe even from day prior as it mushed like baby food.). The salad my Husband got was literally lettuce a handful of cheese and a cherry tomato. After appetizers and soup/salad there was a lack of interaction and awkward pause, making us question if our food was coming. Eventually it came and was ok. ResoectAble but nothing on its own to make up for the awful service. Around the middle of the meal a second waitress started helping and she asked if we needed boxes and such. We had just asked our server and said she was supposedly on her was with them. Waitress #2. Was very friendly and helpful. She went ahead and took our food to box up and waitress one never came back except to hand us the bill. My daughter had ordered a meal that came with dessert. We had to remind waitress 1 that, My husband delayed paying til she got the dessert (it was rice pudding and waitress one put all of a quarter cup of rice pudding... idk if that is what the restaurant considers a serving.) It is a shame, the restaurant is just stunning. The food overall is not bad at all (just soups and salads, pre prepped foods were blah.) The bread was very tasty too. I think they would do much better with some retraining on customer service and time management so people don't sit the for 1 1/2 hours for a meal that they were getting because they were hungry and passing by but didn't want junk food. This was our experience, I can appreciate that sometime a place has a bad day, hopefully this was there's. read more

The Hostess, short blonde girl was absolutely awful! She was very rude and didnt care if we stayed or left. I asked for the manager thru the server ( who was very nice) but never came out. The food wasn't very good as well. Probably won't go back there again. read more

Let me start off by saying the food and hostess were great. Although, the biggest issue my girlfriend and I ran into was how we made a reservation at 8:30pm, then didn't get sat down until almost a quarter till 10, their closing time. When we arrived, there were about 20+ people in there that all had the same 8:30 reservation. So I'm not sure if someone completely overlooked it or just didn't realize everyone would show up for their reservation, but either way it was completely unprofessional. read more

The hostess was awful. She was rude and ignorant. The food was not good at all. Very disappointed. The server was the only person that was decent. The hostess needs fired for the way she treated my wife and I. read more

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The ambience could be improved.

Drinks were overpriced and weak. Food was mediocre. Had the Italian grilled chicken sandwich and it was oozing with grease. Overall not someplace I would recommend. Building was nice though. read more

The food is superb here. This is why my wife and I come back. Our favorites are the Seafood Linguine and Charred Rib Steak as well as the hummus and pita and lamb. The service at the bar here is mediocre, at best, considering the rest of the environment feels a little more appreciating. It has gone downhill within the past year or two which is why we stopped visiting with friends. We visited twice in two weeks to see if it improved. Once, it was just the two of us and another couple and this past weekend when it was slightly busier. It was the same bartender that was always disappearing to the back, hard to get drinks filled and seemed aloof and inexpert to her guests. We can't recall her name. Red hair and jumpy. Seemed like a fish out of water. We really enjoyed Sherry when we would visit but were told she left the establishment because of the owner and staff. We may be back to dine in the restaurant area but the bar here needs work and adequately staffed with appropriate bartenders. We felt sorry to see the decline in business. If the owner wants to contact me, I'll give more details of the visit. read more

Our first time to dine was an amazing experience! Food was delicious and generous portions! Service was above and beyond good. Can't wait to take friends and family when they come to visit us! read more

Excellent food and good wine selection. We sat outside on a nice warm day and server was very friendly and helpful.

The food is here usually solid, but the ambiance and the comfort level is why we go back all the time.

Food excellent Beautiful restaurant. All you can hear is the phone BLARING and screaming in the kitchen. Need listening music and to lower the phone!! My head is pounding! read more

The food was good and reasonably priced. Our server, Vanessa, was great. We had our drink order taken very promptly. She continuously updated us, refilled drinks and offered additional service. The big fail point was the kitchen. It took about a half hour to get our grilled octopus for our appetizer. It took almost an hour to get our entrees. I ordered salmon Benedict and whomever cooked my dish made the biggest error you can make with eggs Benedict: overcooked the poached eggs. They remedied this about 10 to 15 minutes later and fortunately was tasty. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and hoped that those who remarked about the service lacking was wrong. I don't know what was or wasn't going on in the kitchen. For a Sunday afternoon and not being very busy, it really shouldn't have taken that long. read more

Had brunch at 1:00. Wife had eggs benedict, I had spaghetti and meatballs. Both very good. Eggs benedict was kiiller. Menu had a lot to choose from. Definitely would go back. Nice atmosphere. read more

Their dinners are huge portions and really good. They have great wine, friendly staff, and a cool OG atmosphere. Definitely recommended!

We ate there last night with 5 others. We each had an outstanding meal and our waitress, Destiny, was terrific. The menu offered several walleye specials. We had 3 different kinds, Fried, Francaise and Picatta. Were delicious. read more

My husband and I have been to this restaurant many times: I feel it may be our last. In the past we have enjoyed their 3 course meals. He always gets the pork chops and I get the Haddock with greens. Yesterdays dinner was worse than the time my husband got meat binder twine mixed in with his mashed potatoes. Even though they did nothing to apologize for the error, we returned. But this time I need to vent. Starting with his Pork Chops. Is it enough to say we brought most of them home in a doggy bag. After smelling them while I was chopping them up , for the dog, I decided to throw them away. There was no seasoning on anything he had. On to my meal: I had the worse greens I have ever had. They tasted like they had been boiled in water, no seasoning at all, then dumped on my plate. The fish was ok. Lastly, we waited for 20- 25 minutes from the time we finished our main meal until we got our dessert. REALLY PEOPLE!! $64 dollars later . . . I wish I had gone to the Hot Dog Shop. We tipped our waitress, in her defense she had no control over having a reserved party of 15-20 people and being given other tables. There were a couple "supervisors " walking around who could have stepped up to help her but they did not. read more

Mom and I had a amazing dinner! From start to finish everything was perfect, including Nikki our server! We will be back!!!

We went there tonight with a group of 14 people to celebrate a wedding anniversary. I can say without reservation that the food was excellent and the service very good. And given the quality the pricing is very reasonable too. And above all, the tiramisu was the best I have ever had in the United States ! Would highly recommend this restaurant- it really deserves a 4 star + rating Will come back next time visiting OH !! read more

I ate the on July 12 I ordered shrimp and scallops with risotto over asparagus it came to the table there was two shrimps 2 Scallops Way overcooked and NO asparagus and parsley THEY WERE OUT OF I called because the one man that was waiting on the whole restaurant was too busy and explained how disappointed I was the girl told me she would send a $40 gift card immediately it's 12 days later and I haven't received anything read more

Nice menu selection, never had a bad meal. Fun atmostphere to dine in, also good to order out.

Maybe it's the lack of help or the inexperienced help. The place looks amazing. We were disappointed in the long wait. The waitress was somewhat knowledgeable and very helpful. There was a large Father's Day crowd. However, my eggs Benedict were Luke warm and too runny for the fork. The potatoes were at least a day old. The wait staff had to apologize several times. Will try them again when they're not so busy. read more

I've been in the restaurant for 22 min now as a party of one (without a friendly smile or greeting upon entering) and was finally seated after 10 min. The restaurant does not appear busy, but maybe there are few servers on duty on a Thursday evening. I waited for a server to arrive to order a drink or even a glass of water for another 12 mins. Let's see how the evening unfolds...just ordered a glass of wine. read more

Pleasantly surprised. It's Youngstown, so I didn't expect much. Great brunch hours (12-4) with the full menu. Our server, William, was fantastic, although he didn't have any assistance since he was the sole server. They do need to hire more for brunch hours- especially if we're paying for bottomless drinks. Great selection of food and pleasant atmosphere. Will be returning. read more

Genuinely terribly food. Had a family party here and they served us the wrong chicken. Manager was micromanaging the staff and seemed to stress them out. Manager was teaching us how to use plates as if we don't know how to eat and constantly making the room feel very uncomfortable and reaching over us and touching us when doing so! You could pay a lot less for better food and service. Otherwise the waitresses were very nice and did a great job! read more

We got off to a bit of an odd start. We were waiting at the hostess desk and a very frazzled looking woman ran by and said, "be with you in a minute". We waited several minutes and a guy showed up to seat us as the frazzled woman came running back and grabbed the menus. We ended up sitting in the bar as we wanted a booth. Our waitress came a few minutes later and took drink orders and said she would be back with waters. The guy who originally tried to seat us showed up a minute later with water. So far so good until the waitress came back with our drink order plus the promised water! Worried about the lack of coordination, we ordered an appetizer (calamari) and entrees. The food was very good and we were served pretty quickly. Calamari was nicely cooked and the entrees done well. I had the sea bass special that was a tad peppery but still good. My husband had short ribs that he said were good. I'd give them 4 stars but things got off to such an odd start there is definitely potential for serving issues. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Waited 20 minutes for a table when there were plenty open. Not crowded. Finally got seated and waited another 15 minutes and none waited on us. Asked to talk to manager, he said to server have them sit down and you'll be waited on. Wrong answer. Cant even talk to me. NEVER AGAIN. BEWARE read more

My husband and I have been here many times before, and had great service/food. The last two times we have been here in the past month (sat at the bar both times) were horrible!! The food was good, but the service was substandard. We've been treated better at O'Charley's! Back in Oct. 2018 my husband's pizza came out waaaay before my tuna. He was done with his meal before I even started mine!! And last night it was the complete opposite! My tuna came out, I ate, I finished and he still was waiting on his pizza. Never mind the baked potato appetizer he ordered - never came out. It took us over an hour to eat at the bar, and the restaurant wasn't even that busy! Sad to say we won't be back. It was a good restaurant back in the day....not so much. read more

Skip this place. Ordered a black and blue salad on mixed greens. What came out was cold steak cubes on top of cold soggy greasy fries on a bed of romaine. The romaine was the bottom of the bag, I'm certain. It was largely the stalk. Not much green. I quickly removed the potatoes and ate most of the rest. The cold steak and fries may have been due to slow service? Who knows. Not coming back! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Along our drive. We were greeted by the owner who shook my hand and sat us. We sat in the lounge. And the bartender was covering the whole bar and lounge herself. So she was a little overwhelmed it seemed. ie. we weren't brought waters unless ordered and service was slow. However to her credit We could tell she was really working hard. So kudos to her. As said before their homemade bread is to die for. Made fresh every morning, accompanied with their FAMOUS hot peppers and oil. I ordered their pastrami sandwich and Allie got one of their famous dishes. Chicken francaise. Both came out fresh and hot and tasted delicious. The francaise was a little too lemony for our tastes, it was still mouth watering good. For you salad folks 422 balsamic vinegarette is made in house and is amazing. I buy it by the pint and take it home. Better than anything store bought. I love how the owner stepped in to help our server and he stopped by to check in on our meal. Something doesn't happen as much as it should everywhere else, it nice to see an owner involved, whole-heartedly, to always be visible and making rounds to all the tables to thank his customers for their business. I will most definitely be coming here any chance I get. Their menu is awesome. No wonder this place has been around for so long. 2014 marks their 75 anniversary. I want to be there when hey hit 100. Which they should. tradition means a lot effort and they know how to keep it going. read more

We eat out often in the Youngstown area, with all the great food choices available here we thought Cafe 422 would be no exception and be as good inside as it looked on the outside. Believe me if you are driving by, continue to do so! The greens, beans and sausage appetizer was overcooked to a soup like consistency with a small chunk of sausage slapped on top. We both ordered the Surf an turf special, mine with a caesar salad that they charged $2 extra for anchovies and then gave me none. My wife had a medium well steak and a lobster tail, the tail l was so over cooked and dried out it was beige colored meat and flat, the steak was medium rare and when sent back came out blackened but pink inside. My scallops, both of the little things were chewy and salty. We ordered a to go order of fettuccine alfredo and pumpkin cheese cake, when we got to my Mothers no cheesecake. We tried to tell the waiter who was obviously new or just tired of people complaining constantly about the crap they were served but all he said was I will tell the chef,to which I replied you barely have a cook. We will continue to drive by Cafe 422 on our way to Micheal Alberini's, Niccolini's, Steamers and many other great establishments in this area. read more

There are plenty of places to eat in this city and I'd recommend avoiding this one. It took quite awhile to be served as they assumed we were there for a shrimp or crab boil (something of the sortil? Not sure how going there for any reason means you don't need served. Very limited selection of beer on tap and they don't have a single cider even in a bottle. Waitress/bartender was new but she knew nothing. She had to keep running to the other bartender and to the kitchen to ask rather simple questions. We ordered two appetizers to share, the greens and humus. The humus was basically ground garlic and the greens were cold and sitting in at least half cup of oil. They remade the greens and they were much better, we opted out of the remade humus altogether. I ordered white fish francaise. It was heavily breaded and rather flavorless. I've definitely had better. I was very underwhelmed here. To top it off the children sitting at the bar was odd and annoying. Hearing "daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy" from across the bar was just unnecessary. It appeared almost that the wait and cook staff was there just to babysit them. read more
