This is a relatively new location and you can tell when you go in that the renovations are new. The interior is nicer than most pizza joints offering ample seating for dine in and a nice area to wait for your carry out. The pizza there is great. I love pizza and consider myself a bit of a connoisseur. Cocca's isn't my #1 all-time favorite, but it is in my top 10. They use quality cheeses. The sauce is tasty and tangy - not over sweet like many places. The crust is thick but light, crisp on the bottom without being hard or tough. The pizza was also not dripping with grease, like so many other places, which is a good thing. The staff there were polite and attentive without being pushy, and accepted special requests without batting an eye - very professional without being impersonal. The dining area was spotlessly clean, and what I could see of the kitchens was the same - which is always a good sign. All in all, I would give them 9 out of 10 on the pizza connoisseur scale. ;) read more

I had an italian grinder. It was good. The menu said it came with mayonaise, but all i got was a packet of miracle whip. The pizza had exactly 3 pieces of pepperoni on each slice as if they were placed on the pizza after the pizza was already cut. The sauce didn't have much flavor. But what I could taste was the aluminum that the canned tomato sauce came in. The pizza dough was good it had a nice flavor and was light. Coccoas pizza in Salem is advertised on radio station Y103 offering SPECIALS on Sundays during Tangled Up in Blues from 7 pm to 10 pm. I've tried to order these Specials on Sundays and the staff in Salem has NO IDEA what I'm talking about. The supervisor doesnt even know. Cocoas pizza pays for advertisements on Y103 and then doesn't honor them. Last 2 salads I bought had brown limpy lettuce and the pizzas crust on the bottom was like cardboard! Placed an order through DoorDash and when it arrived, the dough was 100% raw. You couldn't even take a slice out without it falling apart. We. called and were polite to them at first just explaining that we received a raw pizza...but they offered to do nothing and said to call DoorDash since they delivered the pizza. I know I can get a refund from DoorDash, but your first thought is not to offer a new pizza? Just to call DoorDash as if they came in and made the bad pizza? Take responsibility for the product you produce. And if you're so busy that you can't keep up with demand then shut off the DoorDash app, stop taking orders, and train the kids you have working for you customer service instead of deflecting blame. There's nobody in town who's better at serving great, uncooked food. It's become a running joke in our family that failure to add the instruction "extra crispy" would result in them actually just giving us raw pizza. If you request the pizza be crispy--and you have to, otherwise it's just a mess--then it comes out *almost* done. Ditto the pepperoni rolls, which are delicious once you finish cooking them at home. It's kind of amazing when you think about it. Even the lousiest pizza chains have figured out that they need to actually cook their food in order for customers to be satisfied. But Cocoa's? Nope. They're still living in an era when fire was unknown to mankind, thus there's no way to cook something. If only there was a way for them to gauge the doneness of their pizzas before they sent them out to the public. Some kind of process by which a human being with half-decent vision could perhaps **look at the damn food you're sending out the door and surmise that the unmelted cheese and obviously doughy crust signaled the need for a few more minutes in the oven**. Alas, this is not an expectation that can be met. So today was sadly the last time I will order here. I've given them about a half dozen second chances over the last year and, like a broken-hearted lover who has finally accepted that their partner will never change, I must go my own way. It's a shame. Back in the good old days, before the dark times of the ownership not understanding how heat and food interact, this place was easily the best pizza in town. It's like watching Ali in his last few fights. You feel like you're witnessing something disturbing and exploitative.
