We stopped here for dinner because it was the highest rated place in the area, and were extremely disappointed. I had to come review to hopefully take it down a few notches so others avoid the mistake we made. The turtle soup tasted like Campbell's canned veggie soup. There was hardly any turtle in it, and it was very bland. The house salad was DRENCHED in the too-sweet dressing. Most of it was soggy to the point it was inedible. As for the entrees. I got the Ahi Tuna, and it was incredibly boring. We recently went to Outback with a gift card and had a sampler appetizer that had AWESOME ahi tuna that completely out-shined this place. We also had the New Zealand lamb which was (again) bland, chewy, and well-done (ordered medium-rare). The best things we had were the bread & butter (which we ate only out of desperation because we were so unsatisfied and hungry), and the garlic orzo which could have come from a box... but the standards at that point had been rock-bottom low. The only reason I even gave them two stars is because the service was fantastic. The hostess, and our waitress were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. But, if I could do it again, I would have preferred to have saved the money and ate the leftover pizza in our fridge at home. read more

I've been to The Springfield grille many times, and I've never left disappointed. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great. I tend to get the crab cakes with vegetables, and I enjoy them every time I get them. And I never hear complaints about food from the people I go with. The only gripe that I might have is that some of the waiters and waitresses are a little inattentive for the price. I have such a mixed review for this place. I've only been here twice and had one good experience and one horrible. My first time the customer service alone ruined it for me. It was a Sunday late evening and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We were seated within 15mins which isn't bad at all. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. It took our server literally 25mins to bring us drinks...water mind you. And we went without drinks pretty much our entire meal cause our server never came to check on us. The appetizer wasn't bad, probably my favorite part besides the side salad. However my dish was disgusting, literally disgusting. It was chicken, with red potatoes and artichoke hearts. I took maybe two bites and couldn't even look at it. Once again no server to complain to if I wanted too. So for the price I was extremely disappointed and pretty much never planned to come back. For Valentines day my bf and I decided to give it another try (he's been here plenty of times and loved it). We went the Sunday before valentines day and the restaurant was pretty dead. Thankfully we got a great server this time. He was awesome at recommendations and never left our glasses empty. We got two appetizers, the Thai calamari and Gouda skins. Amazing!! I could of just ate them. For my main dish this time I chose a chicken pasta dish with banana peppers and a spicy Alfredo sauce. It was fabulous. I ended up taking most of it home because of the appetizers and the fabulous side salad. I definitely can see myself giving them another try. Not bad. Not great either. The vegetarian options were disappointing. The food we ordered was rather tasteless, and overpriced. But to be fair, the restaurant was clean and service, while not fast, was friendly. It's too bad the menu isn't more varied. Nice atmosphere, the waiter was okay. The table bread is great. The beer selection is very good. Crab cakes were cooked well and the roasted red pepper sauce accented the crab well. Lemon poppy seed dressing combined with the mixed greens, blackberry et. al. create a well balanced salad. The steak was supposed to prepared rare came out med well, kitchen staff tried to convince me that the middle would be rare, no chance with a medium well cook 1/4 of the way in. However my wife's steak ordered med rare was well prepared. There were 2/3 Cajun shrimp that were great, 1/3 over cooked. South African Lobster was cooked perfect and was great. Greens were excellent. Would've been a 5* had they not tried to convince me that I did not know the difference between rare and medium well and brought me the the same steak back from the kitchen. Well that went down hill fast! Staffers trying to force patrons to eat a terribly cooked piece of meat did me in. read more

Visited Dec 18th, midst of holiday shopping restaurant was open and no waiting. Staff was "COVID" safe. All wore masks, the correct way, per CDC guidelines. Tables were spaced. Service was outstanding and the food was incredible. It was a nice change of pace to dine out and actually eat inside the restaurant. This was my first time at Springfield Grill, and it is my idea of a comfortable dining atmosphere. Upon entering, I was put at ease by the classy wood paneling and booths...casual without being rustic..the photos don't do it justice. The greeter seated me promptly (I had made a reservation) and my server was helpful in introducing and explaining the menu. I ordered the small 6 oz. fillet, with garden salad and asparagus for sides. Everything was well-prepared and served. My "dessert" was a red sangria which hit-the-spot on a very warm, late Sunday afternoon. An interesting side note: I had no objection to being seated in the booth directly under the very large buffalo head, and enjoyed exchanging smiles with diners as they were leaving! We always enjoyed this restaurant, however, last nite not up to par. First, I found a long black hair in my sweet potato fries. I informed the server and she immediately became pissy. My son ordered a filet supposed to be blue rare, it was very small and was cooked medium rare. My daughter ordered the red skinned mashed potatoes. They were mushy and cold. My husband ordered Salmon, bland with no seasoning. After the hair incident, the server did take the meal off the bill but did not offer us dessert, which we wanted because we were celebrating a birthday. Classiest restaurant in Boardman. Excellent atmosphere, tasteful decor, and pleasant staff. My father and I have regularly gone here for the last decade whenever I am in town. My husband and I took his parents out after church for a nice dinner. They sat us in the bar with drunk loud people sitting at the bar with their unsupervised children sitting in the booth behind us. ANNOYING! Our server Marissa was very rude to my mother in-law. If we wanted to be treated like turds, we would've gone to Dick's Last Resort. On a good note, the food was great. After reading the reviews, I would've rather had Chica or Dan as our server. My wife and I have been here twice recently. We very much enjoyed our meals and would give them 4 stars for that. The setting is very nice and upscale to most other restaurants we visit. So far in both instances only half the our meals were served at first and we had to wait for the sides. Almost like an after thought. The waitress staff either has too many tables to handle or they are just not very attentive. Either way in both visits our waitresses weren't very accommodating. The first server a couple of weeks back had no idea what she was doing and I watched her trying to give our meals to the wrong table. This weeks server seemed better but only came to our table a couple of times. Never did she check to see how our meals were. Only saw her after we were finished eating. Due to the waiting staff we will not go back any time soon and is the reason for only giving them 3 stars. I don't see many similar reviews but I doubt it's just a coincidence and only happening to us. Hope you have better luck than we've had. read more

I have been a caterer for over 20 years and in the food business even longer.... so I don't go out to a full service restaurant on a regular basis. I find it very hard not to be overly critical. I pay strong attention to detail from the door to the floor... That being said; my go to place is the Springfield Grille. It's been in business for over 20 years. The food and service is consistently above average . There are great servers who have been there for over a decade and they do their jobs well. I find the atmosphere and ambiance relaxed, comfortable and inviting. If you are dining for a special occasion.... on a date or with a client ..... I have even brought the kids.....10 & 14yrs. This restaurant will accommodate you. Now on occasion, I have experienced a waiter here or there off their game... It happens. If I have an issue... they have a SERVICE MGR. named Kena who will take care of the situation. I feel its delicious good quality food at a fair price. My ex-boyfriend received a giftcard as an end of the year gift from a student so we visited on a Friday night. I thought the inside decor was very well-manicured and fit with the obvious "steak-house" motif they were going for. We began with the crab cakes with the roasted red pepper remoulade. These were tasty and I loved the remoulade but the portion was quite lacking. Yes there were 3 crab cakes but they were about half the size of any crab cakes I have ever ordered elsewhere. If the giftcard had not taken care of these I would have been unhappy with the price/portion ratio as at $10.50 for 3 tiny morsels is clearly overpriced. My ex-boyfriend ordered the black and bleu strip steak.I did not get to try any but he said it was delicious and cooked perfectly to his medium-well liking. For $24.50, I'm not sure if it is appropriately priced for a restuarant clearly attempting to be fine dining but is not there yet (and may never be). My entree was a different story.I ordered the chicken galore-Capellini, sautéed chicken medallions, bell peppers, wild mushrooms, julienne onions in a sherry marinara sauce with imported provolone. Priced at $15.00 this was very reasonable considering the portion was massive. The taste well that is where this goes bad. The 'sherry marinara sauce" tasted nothing like sherry-it was extremely bland and flavorless. The chicken was fine but there was far too much pasta that was far undercooked and not enough of the (flavorless) sauce. The caesar salad that came with it was the highlight of the meal for me which is highly disappointing in my opinion. Perhaps next time I would order a steak as my ex-boyfriend did say it's more of a place where you should order steak or seafood-however, I was not craving any of that Friday night so that was a mute point. Our bill for the 2 entrees, crab cakes, and 4 drinks (2 beers and 2 glasses of wine) was $85.00. I won't complain much because the giftcard covered all of that plus a tip but if that $85 was coming out of my pocket I would have been disappointed as the meal clearly was not served at a quality that deserves that price tag. read more

I come to Boardman once or twice a year as I am from there. I live in Dallas and every time I come back home to visit I never miss the Springfield Grill. My wonderful mother introduced me to it several years ago and now we celebrate special occasions or just going for no special occasion to enjoy a wonderful meal great places and fabulous atmosphere and wonderful service. We came on a Sunday evening and sat at the bar which had plenty of space. The tap list was great with plenty of crafts. My wife tends to eat vegan and got the impossible burger which not many local places have and was very good. I'm a meat eater and sprung for the wagyu meatballs and Italian trio. I often feel awkward asking for a table for one but they were warm and welcoming. The decor is classy but relaxed. The menu is is excellent with a variety of options for this gluten-free gal. This was a fantastic find! Their "signature" turtle soup was elegant and delicious complete with a cordial glass of sherry to add lovely flavor. I also had the arugula, beet and goat cheese salad adding fresh chicken breast. Delicious! Hubby had the Hungarian stuffed peppers plus a Caesar salad with a perfectly grilled steak. I have beenat the Boardman location more than a dozen times. Meals on the pricey side counting salad,entree and soft drink about $20. Their specials usually a bargain. Their house salad with almonds and vinagrette is always good. They offer a couple soups daily. They are known for turtle soup which I had once but did not think it was special. They offer a reasonably priced and tasty champagne brunch. There are tasty mini plate offerings in bar area during happy houi. Service varies unless you are lucky enough to get Chica. Came here for a baby shower and it was the perfect spot for a shower. The back room had just the right amount of space with beautiful exposed brick and the classic wood look.
