I've been a loyal customer at Spotlight Karaoke for about eight visits, but my birthday celebration on May 22nd was absolutely unacceptable. When we arrived, the DJ directed us to scan a QR code to add songs and informed us we needed to purchase one drink minimum to perform. We sat down and I asked for five tequila lemon drops. The server then said we needed two drinks per person, so I asked to order two and suggested she check with the rest of my party about their drinks. Her response was aggressive, she accused me of being rude and nasty based on my tone, despite the fact that the venue is extremely loud and I was simply speaking up to be heard. When she refused to take our order, I asked to speak with a manager. The owner came over, I explained the situation, and her response was dismissive. She asked 'what do you want me to do about it' without offering any resolution or accountability. When I questioned how she allows her staff to treat customers this way, security approached us and told us to leave. We left immediately rather than spend our money in an establishment with such poor customer service. As someone who has worked in service for ten years, I know the difference between being demanding and being disrespected. This experience was inexcusable. read more

It is strongly advised to book ahead if you want to celebrate with a group. Cover fee of $10 to get in I believe. We finally got a room an hour before they close and that was worth it. We had a reunion and our friends came from different states. The line to sing was so long and we didn't even make it to sing on the public list. Lucky we got the room last minute but it wouldn't be worth it for our group if we were not able to get a room the last minute. The server was nice and we ended up making the most of the hour. This is my second time here but the first time we been to one of the private rooms. We had a great time. Our group was large but all the staff were very friendly and helpful. They checked on us constantly and food and drinks were quick to arrive. The music set up was easy to navigate and we got to sing out hearts out for hours. read more

Spotlight is a great place to sing and hang out with friends. The staff is always friendly and attentive considering how crowded and busy this place can get, especially over the weekend. You can order some food, but come during happy hour to wait out the traffic. It's a great place for kid's parties, school functions to corporate parties with their large private rooms. I don't post often; so, when I do, know it's for a reason. I came here as an invite from fellow conference attendees. There was only one bartender but she did her best to accommodate the patrons. It took a minute to get a drink; but, I don't think they anticipated a crowd on a random Tuesday night. There was also lady floating, taking drink orders. She approached me after my first drink order at the bar and told me they were working in tandem. When I was ready to close my tap she came over with an IPad. I settled the tab there. When I was ready to leave, I realized I didn't reactive my card. That's where the issue lies: She swore she gave my card. She didn't. I was not inebriated and very of sound mind. We debated on the issue. I was said to be "aggressive" in which I wasn't. I was very calm and just wanted my card. I asked another patron, who resembled me, can he see i if they inadvertently gave him my card. She walks over and misinterprets the conversation, assuming I accused her of stealing my card. Other staff comes over, adding heat to an unnecessary matter assuming I was "aggressive" . I just wanted my card. I felt attacked and left the situation. As a Black man, on work travel, it was the only option. I saw where this was going. Calling me aggressive in situation I was trying to resolve amicably is both racist and insulting. My card is still there. I left in peace and locked my card. read more

I hosted my birthday this past Saturday in Room 3 & we had an amazing time! Everyone enjoyed themselves. Definitely recommend getting a private room to host your parties. We played music from my phone on top of the song selection they provided. I brought light bites because it was recommended not to bring food needed to keep warm. I've never been to a club where the owner is constantly walking around watching your every move. It made us feel really uncomfortable. We spent over $100 on drinks and were actually having a good time, but the DJ kept telling everyone to sit down, and the owner kept coming over about vaping. Karoake is fun but it gets LIVE when you have spirits with some spirit, which you will not find at Spotlight Karoake. The waitress was nice and all and added a cherry with my marg (that was probably a clue right there that the drink would be subpar) but too much ice and not enough Cuervo. I wasnt there but a few hours to support a friend's event so another drink wasn't the answer for me. I closed out my tab with the waitstress and didnt feel like typing in my number to get the electronic receipt so I asked the waitress was the paper copy an option. She told me sure so I pressed that option. She asked me to wait while she closed out a few more tabs and then she left. I waited about 5 minutes for her to return to the room with my receipt but didnt see her so I proceeded to the front bar. She was standing there talking to some other waistresses, so I reminded her of my request. She gave a reason why she didnt get my receipt to me but it wasnt very good. Therefore I suggest eating or drinking before or after coming here although the event I attended did have light refreshments for people to enjoy. As far as the venue, I love the rooms to keep your event private and they vary in size. Even in the biggest room however by 930 it was pretty packed with guests. Glad I got there before the crowd and sung as much as I wanted before the other guests came. But the mics....I could not hear myself sing in them. Maybe a little out of tune? As I sat and listened to some of the other quests sing that I know you can sing, I couldnt hear them very well. In any case, nice place and activity for a few or plenty of your friends. Also liked that they had a security guard out front visible when I came in and came out. Lots of lighting as well in this shopping center. More stars would have been given if the drinks had been better and the waitress hasnt been flaky with my receipt. Still a solid Houston stable to enjoy some Karaoke Kicks. read more

This past Sunday, we celebrated my friends birthday party at Spotlight karaoke. It was my first time there and I had a great experience. We rented a private room that was big enough for 20 people. They let us bring in food. Everything was amazing. The communication I had with the staff was on point. They were very responsive they let me decorate ahead of time. The only time I come to spotlight is when it's not my choice. Like birthday parties. The food is not good at all. The selection is bad and anything we selected was bad. So I bought ohmygogi a few doors down and they let me bring it in.... the drinks are outrageously overpriced for what they are - like $15 for granted strong, but not the best tasting cocktails. I will say everytime I've been there, who ever is at the door and whoever is tending to our private room is always very nice and professional. Whoever you go with truly creates the experience. Also, last time I went there the lyrics displayed the n word with a hard ER at the end. Wasn't too please with that. read more

This is a great place to enjoy karaoke with friends. The stage is elevated which looks intimidating at first but everyone is there for a good time and will sing along with you. I really like their system for requesting songs. There's a QR code that will take you to a link where you can search for songs, put your name down, and then you'll be placed in a queue until the DJ calls your name. We sat at tables by the bar but you can also book private rooms. The place was really packed on Friday night. Our server was super nice and did her best but I can tell they were very understaffed. There also only appeared to be 2 bartenders behind the bar so it took a while for our drinks to come out. The drink selection was decent. I enjoyed the Henny Lemon Drop. Their menu only had sushi for food options which I found odd at a karaoke bar. They did announce that they were serving other food items so my friend ordered the chicken wings, but the wings were so tiny and not worth the price.
