I'd say it was more a 3.5/5 but I'll give it the boost it needs because there's not many hot pot places in Savannah. I'm in Savannah visiting a friend now and was really surprised to see a hot pot place around because Asian food here is limited. I'm from Orange County, CA so I'm surrounded by a lot of good Asian food. We came into the restaurant around 12 on a weekday and it was half empty. I ordered the meat lover's combo with the special Little Lamb spicy broth and udon noodles and my friend ordered the house broth and various items individually. This restaurant has a good mix of authentic Chinese items like fish tofu, quail eggs, etc and also options that can be found in any grocery store. The sauce bar was also good, I strongly recommend the "house" sauce which is a traditional Chinese "sacha" sauce. The "Little Sheep Spicy Broth was really good. There's no lamb in the broth, it's named that because it's a soup base created by a hot pot restaurant called "Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot" which is really popular in California. I recommend getting either the Little Sheep Broth non-spicy or the spicy Little Sheep broth (even though they are $3.5 more) because they are really flavorful compared to the house broths they offer. Overall the sliced meat was pretty good, the pork was a bit tough. The veggie platter that came with the combo was generous and delicious. This is a solid hot pot place that I recommend. It doesn't compare to hot pot restaurants in California/Boston but is overall not bad! Bubble tea here was good too :) both the bubble tea and "smoothies" come with bubbles(boba.) I recommend the coconut and green tea smoothies. There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant. I felt bad for her because it seemed a lot for her to handle. Stopped in for dinner because I saw that the Yelp reviews were phenomenal. What I would explain this type of experience to be, is make your own Pho. As we walked in there was only three groups in the restaurant. One of the employees motioned that we could sit anywhere that we pleased so we chose a booth in the corner. My boyfriend and I sat at the tables waiting for an employee to come and assist us. We waited about 5 minutes and the young lady handed us the menu and walked away. Confused and scared to approach the menu without assistance we signaled for an employee to assist. The first young lady was quick and brief, so questions still surrounded the entire experience. So after a few more moments of confusion we signaled for a second person to assist. The second young lady throughly explained the menu and gave us suggestions about the menu. We decided to go with the Spicy broth, the Seafood combo, with Vermicelli noodles. The young lady took our menu and immediately came back with a steaming pot of spicy broth. The broth was fragrant and inviting. The waitress went to the back again and brought the combo and sides. After seeing the amount of food we decided to upgrade our meal. We choose $10 worth of food (extra vermicelli noodles, chicken, and one extra item I can't remember). We dropped the vegetables in the broth, then the noodles, and finally the meat. The cook time wasn't the worse, but if you come in with a large appetite beware you will be hangry waiting. Once the first drop of food was ready we divided things up and I must say it was a messy activity. I was burned by the after splash of noodles sliding back into the pot. I definitely wish we were given a demo of a safer way fill your plates. Once everything was cooked the meal was nice. My biggest problem was the spiciness from the "Spicy Broth". I was not prepared for the broth to carry that much kick, so I definitely diluted my broth with Hoisin sauce. At the end of our meal we order a Mango Mochi to try. Mochi is relatively new to western culture but it was great to try. The outside has a taste similar to tapioca pearls/boba. Overall this restaurant deserves a C. The restaurant is serene and intimate, the combo was larger than expected, the experience is nice if you have an extended amount of time to spend over dinner/lunch, and the Mochi is worth the try. Pitfalls, the staff members could have explained the hot pot process better, service was much worse than expected, the spicy broth is definitely spicier than I could imagine, some items were more difficult cooking in the hot pot than others, and caution while cooking and eating the hot liquids are hot enough to burn the skin. read more

Splendid Shabu was a great experience with nice and quick service. Be prepared to prepare your own food and have a flair for the culinary arts, however! I am not a seasoned hot-pot connoisseur so I will leave the finer details to those with more refined Shabu Shabu palettes and knowledge of Japanese cuisine. Speaking of seasoning... the flavor was just not there for me as one would expect from Asian noodle-based dishes. The sauce bar was pretty sad looking and the broth selection was dismal, these ingredients should really be the centerpiece of the kind of "DIY" aspect of this place and I'm afraid these elements ended up ruining my experience. There was no description of the flavors, nor any recommendation for good pairings or meal ideas. You kind of get your menu and are left guessing what might taste good together. I think that some more elaborate menus and perhaps suggestions for popular pairings may be helpful! Additionally, while our server was very nice and informed us how long to cook things for - this information was not available to reference anywhere on the menu or on the table. Once he was gone we were left to fend for ourselves. A tiny insert near the drink menu would do a world of good. Nothing was ridiculously over or under cooked for us (thankfully we have common sense), but some guidance would be nice. I will say that a veggie platter that comes with the meat dishes was plentiful and freshly prepared which was a nice addition. We got the meat and chicken slices and seafood. Of course the sight of raw meat and chicken are not appetizing, but for being laid out on a platter on our table- I had no complaints and was happy to dip them into my broth throughout the meal! I would say avoid the seafood, unless you are incredibly adventurous as some of it was unidentifiable! This is a great place with friendly service that serves fresh food. The location is a little tricky to find if you're not looking for it; it's tucked in a tiny strip mall beside an urgent care pretty close to Sam's Club. We had never had cook your own-style soup before but the waitress was extremely friendly, explained everything, and even made us both delicious sauces at the make your own sauce bar! My husband ordered vegetarian soup and got a variety of tofu and mushrooms, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I opted for the seafood and everything that came was extremely fresh and delicious. The portions are very large and much more filling than I would have expected for something largely broth-based. I also had a green tea bubble tea, which was delicious. Most of the food choices are not bad, except some of them can be improved. Like the mini sausage, it should be cross-cut on the end. And the toufu skin, it should not be soaked completely in advance. And the most disappoint part is the terrible service! 1st, The waiter keeps forgetting which customer get what orders and asking us around! 2nd, they don't even know to add soup before it goes dried out. 3rd, the dishes takes so much time to get prepared and keeps us waiting for them. 4th, the cashier even doesn't remember our order and mixed it up with others and give us wrong bill at her first try. Very hidden place. Not good if you are trying to make money. Food is okay at best. Kind of expansive for what you are getting. Meat is cut too thick! Probably from the lack of competition in this city. Electric stove tops don't heat up the food good enough so you need to bring the heating level to the max. If you do that, the stove tops will overheat very quickly and error out. Very annoying. Need to ask for assistance with resetting them. Lights over the table are not working and flickering from time to time. Had to eat in the dark. It's hard to get attention from any of the waitresses. Need to chase them around. What a pleasant find in little Pooler, GA. My family lives in the area and my sisters and I went in for dinner. We noticed this new establishment late summer but it was too hot to entertain the idea of a "hot pot". But we returned to very friendly and helpful staff and a fun time. The place was nearly empty, granted, it was about an hour to closing. They have various tables fitted for 2 or 4 people. Each person has their own burner in front of them. The menu is extensive, giving you options in the broth, noodles, protein and any add-ins. Broths = miso, a chicken broth and a spicy version of the chicken broth. Noodles = ramen, rice vermicelli, udon, egg noodles and clear noodlest. I went with the egg noodles in spicy broth. There's chicken, beef, seafood, tofu and combos as far as the protein goes. And you get a set of vegetables with your protein. There's cabbage, bok choy, mushrooms, broccoli, and corn. My one suggestion is to make sure veggies are truly fresh and good. My broccoli didn't look good at all and the corn was a bit old. They quickly brought out new broccoli. There are also a ton of add-ins - wontons/dumplings, seafood/meat balls, sausage, more veggies, etc. I'm trying some next time. Your broth will come out quick and get heated up on your designated burner. Our waitress was beyond helpful and explained every bit of the process and made several suggestions and recommendations with the menu. She also made out sauces for us at the sauce bar. They have a recipe suggestion listed for the sauce - follow it. It was tasty and you can dip your proteins and veggies in them. I ordered seafood on this visit, so did one of my sisters and the other ordered chicken. The chicken was thinly sliced to aid in quick cooking. Seafood included sway fish, shrimp, imitation crab meat, calamari, mussels and clams. You receive tools and your noodles and your'e ready to go! Cooking everything up was easy and the finished product was delicious! You will most likely have leftovers (and they were good the next day). We also had their gyoza and some shrimp dumplings for an appetizer - both were pretty good. Splednid Shabu is currently closed for a little bit, doing a remodel. They are re-opening on Friday, December 5th. We will be back in Pooler soon and can't wait to check it out! read more
