My first and last review of Spinning Dough. Spinning Dough was on my to do list for a while now. While browsing through social media, I was saddened to find out that they were closing their doors permanently the weekend of April 20th. With that being said, my cousin and I trekked out to Oakland to visit Spinning Dough on their last weekend of operation. The service was friendly, but very slow. It was understandable since an explosion of business was expected on the final weekend. We dined in and ordered 3 pizzas: - Ube - Longanisa - Blackberry We wanted to do halfs with the longanisa and blackberry, but halfs wasn't offered. It seemed that our orders got to us in a timely manner. One right after the other, once receiving our first pizza. I enjoyed all the pizzas. But my favorite one was the longanisa pizza. Composed of longanisa, eggs, garlic, tomatoes. Straight up tasted like the traditional Filipino breakfast. It was also served with a side of of vinegar. Thank you Spinning Dough for the experience of pizzas far from tradition. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

They are closing on April 20th, don't sleep on it! Came here last night with my man; had been wanting to try this place for 7 years specifically for their Ube (which can't be done half and half) - which we ordered. And then got a Half & Half of Longanisa and Blackberry. IRL, both not the biggest fans of Longanisa. He wanted to try the Longanisa which I was down to try one slice. He wasn't feeling Blackberry. We both thought the other wasn't going to eat the other half. The pizzas came out. The Ube was my favorite. It is going to be a little sweet for some such as my boyfriend even though he's Filipino. And then Longanisa I really enjoyed! If I had to recommend one it would be the Longanisa. The spicy vinegar drizzled on top was *chef's kiss*. It is going to be slightly sweet due to the nature of Longanisa. It was sweet, a little savory - just incredible. This was my man's favorite of the bunch. Then I tried the blackberry and he watched me to gauge if this was one he should be trying (I made no responses and just went ham for it). He tried it and didn't think it was weird as he thought it would be. He said this one was less weird than the Ube. The blackberry was good - a good balance and not too sweet. He liked the pizzas in totality, he prefers a New York style - not super saucy - not super tomatoey sauced out so these were a great selection. Service was great - the owner and his staff are really friendly and helpful; great vibes. -Pizzas and their components below- UBE : Sliced Potatoes, Homemade Sausage, Red Onions, Ube Ricotta, and Topped with Scallions on Bechamel LONGANISA : Bechamel, Longanisa, Eggs, and Onions. Topped with Tomatoes, Fried Garlic, Drizzled with Honey, and Served with Spiced Vinegar BLACKBERRY aka EatsbyRachel Berry : Blackberry bechamel, blackberries, parmesan cheese, ricotta, crushed pistachios, drizzled with honey and topped with basil

Wait I'm incredibly sad that I've only gotten to trying it on their last 2 days of being open. Hopefully a reopen in a better location in the future??? Drove across the bridge from SF just to try the ube pizza and GEEZUS it was so good. I took it to go so by the time I made it back home it was cold, BUT it was still so good a solid 4/5. Cold - the ube taste was not so much there but the pizza itself and the thin crust was amazing. We decided to try airfrying it to warm it up... BAM 5/5 so so so good. You can definitely taste the ube with the savory flavors of the pizza. Ube shouldn't be too sweet and thought this was a good combo I would've never expected. Pretty busy around 5pm, all the front tables were full not sure about the ones in the back expansion. The shop itself felt so warm and hot tho as far as environment temperature. It was about an hour to get my pizza :( so I suggest if you're going on the last day to order ahead. Its location is not really in a good area, but street parking it is so be safe and don't leave any valuables in the car.

I came here on a Friday night with a friend for dinner, and we were super excited to try the Ube pizza! After seeing the hype years ago, we finally got the chance to try. The restaurant itself is on a corner, and it's rustic inside with lots of wood decor and neon lights. We were the only customers, so we were able to sit anywhere and service was great! We got our order in, and waited about fifteen to twenty minutes before the food came out. This pizza was MASSIVE. I really like how thin and crispy the trust was. There is a slight ube taste in the more purple region, but more or less, it was a decent pizza. I wished it had more toppings, because it was mostly cheese. We were eating slowly, and I asked if it was possible for our server to reheat the pizza, and it was! Definitely game changer. We also got a complimentary special of tuna inari from the chef! I am glad we got the chance to try this viral spot!

Street parking at Spinning Dough was easy. Several spots are available near the entrance. Margaret welcomed us in, seated us, and provided a menu. She described the special pizza which was a green chili pizza (pork). The space is simple with a big mirror reflecting into the open kitchen so everyone can get a glimpse of Chef Jeff spinning the dough. He makes it look so easy. We ordered beer and got some early beer week options to try. The miso mushroom pizza caught our eye but also wanted to try a popular choice too. For $4 more, we could do half and half so that's what we did. The only pizza you can't split is the ube. We chose half miso mushroom and half blackberry. I was curious to know, will blackberry replace pineapple on pizza now? *Salad ($13) We ate the house salad and it was no ordinary plain salad. There were sliced apples, crisp mixed greens, dried cherries, cucumber, carrots, and it was perfectly dressed in a vinaigrette. Also, it was huge! *Pizza The crust was light, crispy, held up to the toppings. Nothing floppy. The best part is that fold. The slices were big and so was my appetite. Miso mushroom ($37) I could smell the lemon zest on the pizza and I immediately wanted to try this slice first. The miso mushroom has two types of mozzarella, thinly sliced mushrooms, miso (not sure how it's used but you can taste it), basil, and sprinkles of that fragrant lemon zest. I'll be back for this one. The flavors are unique but works so nicely on pizza. Very creative plus all the things you love about pizza. BLACKBERRY aka EatsbyRachel Berry ($37) You can immediately see the dark blackberry incorporated in the pizza. The blackberry bechamel melted into the pizza and became one. This pizza hit the salty and sweet notes pretty high. The bites of pistachio grounded the flavors nicely. The brightness of basil reminded you that this is indeed pizza with every crunchy cheesy bite. This is as creative as it gets. If you're a fan of pineapple pizza, give this one a try. I understand all the hype and it's the real deal. The kindness and community love here is next level. Stop by and be fed by chef Jeff. He shares the love with every spinning dough.

I'm not sure how my husband discovered this hidden gem since it's located in a part we normally wouldn't travel to nor a part of Oakland to walk around leisurely. But hey we love a random discovery! We ordered our $39 ube pizza online and drove over. Luckily we snatched a spot right out in front! We must have misread on when the pizza was ready so when we showed up the kind folks (pizza chef and 1 staff) were profusely apologetic about the wait. There was 1 other customer waiting inside the restaurant but otherwise no one was dining in. Not wanting to loiter in the area, we decided to check out the nearby Ghost Town Brewery to have a drink instead (highly recommend). Interestingly you can order 1/2 orders of pizza, though sadly you couldn't do that with the ube pizza- otherwise would have loved to sample other flavors. After finishing imbibing our delicious beers at Ghost Town we circled back to Spinning Dough. They recognized me immediately and handed me with a giant box of pizza, thanking me for the wait. The smell of our pizza was so tantalizing we almost pulled over to take a bite. And let me tell you that ube sausage ricotta red onion pizza is SO worth the wait. Every bite was addictingly savory. My husband easily gulped gown 3 or 4 slices! I ate 2 slices and had the remaining 2 as my next day lunch, and yes they were still just as magical. I also appreciate that the thin crust was very crispy. I will definitely try out other flavors next time!

True foodies will try anything once, and I'm so glad that I gave the Ube Pizza at Spinning Dough a try! I found out about the Ube Pizza from Instagram, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to order it while visiting the East Bay. I came on a weekday evening, and to my surprise, the restaurant was empty! My partner and I were invited to sit anywhere, and seating is limited yet cozy inside. Spinning Dough has an open kitchen, and the owner makes the pizza himself. We enjoyed watching him assemble our order right in front of us. Everything came out quickly, and after a few bites, my partner and I were in agreement that we're fans of this creative take! The Ube flavor is infused in the crust, and my favorite bite would be the sausage paired with the Ube ricotta. I'd highly recommend, and we even had leftovers to bring home to Sacramento with us!

I came for the Ube Pizza and that beautiful purple tuber is not just for show! The ube infused ingredients add a delightful flavor to the ideal combination of house-made Italian sausage, onions and bechamel. It's an extra large pie with a thin, chewy crust perfect for folding. My mom and I enjoyed it so much and thought it was totally worth the drive. Customer service was great. I was greeted immediately after walking in and they were very friendly and patient with my questions. Jeff (the owner and chief dough spinner) kindly cooked my pizza to almost done so I could do the final bake at home in Sacramento. Next time we will dine in and try their Longanisa, Soppresata, and Seafood pizzas. Also on the menu are wings, salads, desserts, beer & wine. Everybody always heads across the bridge to Tony's but why do that when you could have delicious, uniquely creative and traditional NY style pizza in Oaktown?

Spinning Dough has been pushed to me on social media platforms pretty much non-stop for the past couple of months. I'm glad I was finally able to try it out recently and see what all the hype was about. I stopped by as a group of four around 6:00 p.m. on a Sunday evening and the place was pretty much empty. It was a really nice day outside so we opted to sit in the back patio. Shortly after we were seated, waters were brought over, and we were told about the monthly special -- a Miso Mushroom pizza. One cool thing about the pizzas here is you can opt for half-and-half for a small fee. The only pizza you're unable to do that with is the ube pizza. My friends and I ultimately settled on doing a half-half with the miso mushroom and Hawaiian on the other half. If you enjoy thin crust, you will absolutely love the pizza here: the crust is thin, crunchy and really allows the toppings to shine. The miso mushroom flavor I cannot recommend enough for mushroom lovers. For a group of four, one pizza felt like not enough, and we were still a bit hungry afterwards. In hindsight, we probably should have ordered more than one pizza and a caesar salad as our only appetizer. It is unfortunate that Spinning Dough is located where it is, because it's kind of in the middle of nowhere and the neighborhood being run-down likely scares away out-of-town customers unfamiliar with Oakland. If you're looking for good pizza, I would definitely recommend stopping by Spinning Dough. Their crust is delicious and they have a ton of creative toppings, including a seafood pie I can't wait to try out on my next visit.

I saw that they were closing towards the end of April so wanted to come by before then. I generally love corn pizza so was super excited to see this in the menu. I really enjoyed it. It was very crispy and not floppy and had great taste.

Went to an event that had catered food and I knew right away this was from spinning dough. I haven't visited the actual location yet but I always see the famous Ube pizza being posted. I had a slice and it was really good. It was thin sliced and the flavor was subtle. I wanted to try the other pizzas they ordered but there were so many desserts and other foods for us. Will visit the location soon!

Very nice people! Came here for their Ube pizza since I'm a huge fan of Ube and when I saw this pizza on instagram I had to come get it! We were in the Oakland area so we came in an hour before closing and they made us a a pizza from scratch pretty quickly! The Ube pizza was delicious. There was Ube in the crust, and in the ricotta and potato slices in the pizza itself too, so good! The salty and savory combo really worked and I highly recommend. Next time we order this though I might as for less Ube ricotta since it felt a little heavy and sweet for me but definitely tasted like real Ube! We also got a guava soda in addition which was refreshing and a great compliment to our pizza. Super yummy!

I will forever support Spinning Dough, as they're Oakland spirit through and through, and hands down deliver the best and most creative/variety of pizzas in town. I first heard of Spinning Dough's viral ube pizza via social media, and was lucky to attend a Yelp Elite event hosted by them. My mind was blown when I took a bite of their ube pizza. The ube is literally IN the dough too, so not only are you getting deliciously tasty slices of potato, homemade sausage and scallions in your pizza, but that pop of sweetness from the ube just hits perfectly. Ingenius. First of it's kind for sure. Not too oily and the perfect chew to crunch ratio for the crust. I've also had their mushroom (my second fave), margherita, and chicken wings which are all fire. I think their monthly specials are where it's at...like right now it's the Berry Pizza. HOW CREATIVE. Their pizza's are great for leftovers and go well for a consecutive pop in the overn. Let's also give a moment for this beautiful family-run joint. Jeff is the 'za maestro, and I've seen his son also in the oven, and his niece and sometimes his wife in the shop. They're all amazing, loving people who do it because they LOVE it. Support local, and tip hard! From the outside looking in, you'd probably think twice about dining in. I mean it's not exactly in the safest part of town, and you're lucky if you can snag one of the three spots of street parking right in front of their shack-like exterior. If you come in the evening though, the small lot next door (I think it's a paint store or some type of hardware shop) is open since the shop closes in the evening. I've never had a problem with street parking TBH, just be smart about your car and don't leave anything inside. I'd go to bat for Spinning Dough any day. They have indoor and a larger outdoor area for dining, dog-friendly and kid-friendly. You're paying for a HUGE pizza (one size only) that is incredibly share-able, high quality ingredients, and AAPI-small-biz local pizza. What's more to love, East Bay!

Their pizzas are already reliably delicious, but this deal is genuinely outstanding value since you get a large 18" pizza, your choice of a Caesar or dinner salad, and four very large sea salt chocolate chip cookies, all for $35. We grabbed two of these specials for a group of six and still had leftovers, so I'd say one combo easily feeds three people and could probably stretch to four as long as no one is absolutely starving. The pizzas themselves are ultra thin but still hold up structurally since you can lift and fold each slice without everything collapsing, which is exactly how I like to inhale my pizza. I personally wish the crust were just a touch more burnt and crackly on the edges, but even without that extra char, the flavor and bouncy chew of the dough were spot on. We ordered the Hot Italian and the Sausage & Roasted Garlic pies and absolutely loved both, especially the housemade sweet Italian sausage that appears on each, which is savory, slightly sweet, and super satisfying in every bite. Their house tomato sauce deserves its own shout out because it hits that ideal balance of sweetness and acidity and ties everything together perfectly. On the Sausage & Roasted Garlic it plays beautifully with the rich roasted garlic purée, and on the Hot Italian it stands up nicely to the Calabrian chilis and chili oil without getting lost. The sea salt chocolate chip cookies that come with the special are huge and packed with chocolate chips, and that little hit of salt really enhanced the flavors but the something about the texture was a bit off for me as it wasn't quite chewy or crumbly but rather something in between, which left me a little confused. Another big plus is that Violetta has a full bar so you can pair your meal with a beer, a glass of wine, or a cocktail to match whatever pie you are in the mood for. Between the quality of the ingredients, the thoughtfulness of the flavor combinations, and the generosity of the Restaurant Week deal, Pizzeria Violetta is an easy recommend and a spot I would happily return to with a group (or by myself with plenty of leftovers!).

The cost of a whole pizza is $25, which is on the steeper side given that there is no protein.

Ordered a pizza to go from Hesher's and it definitely delivered!…read more First off, the theme here is unapologetically metal. The decor, the attitude, and the music all lean into it--they were blasting metal while I was there, which gives the place a fun, high-energy vibe that feels a little different from your typical pizza spot. If you're into that scene, you'll probably love it. The setup is super casual. You order at the counter and can hang out while you wait. They've got a great beer selection, and there's even an arcade area where you can play some games while your food is being made. It feels like the kind of place where you could easily kick back with friends for a while. I went with the Mortian, their all-meat pizza, and it was absolutely packed with toppings--pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, all garnished with prosciutto. If you're a meat lover, this one delivers. Every slice was loaded and really flavorful. The crust deserves a shout-out too. It's not thin crust, but it's also not deep dish. It lands right in that perfect middle zone--crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Really satisfying and a great base for all those toppings. Even though I ordered it to go, the pizza held up great and was seriously delicious. I'd absolutely order their pizza again and look forward to trying more of the menu next time.

The elote pizza came with a slice of lime and we really loved the creativity and flavors. It took almost an hour for our 1 pizza to come out- that being said, it seemed like they had a lot of online orders and a lot of the folks who ordered in also had to wait a very long time. I'd recommend ordering to-go from here vs. waiting in person.

Arizmendi is my absolute FAVORITE. I've been coming here for about 20 years and will continue to…read morefor as long as I am capable. Sometimes, the pizzas are a little overcooked which causes the crust to be extra crispy and a little burnt. But it doesn't change the deliciousness of it. It doesn't matter what they put on the pizza of the day, I know it's going to be tasty. Arizmendi's pizza 100% makes me forget about meat on pizza. I have tried a couple of their baked goods, which have always been good as well. They also have soups of the day, which I surprisingly haven't tried. If you're ordering more than 1 pizza, I'd recommend calling ahead of time so that you don't have to wait a while. There's typically 2 cashiers, always a small line, but you'd be in and out under 30 minutes max. No music, just the sounds of pure hustle trying to get everyone served. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating so keep that in mind. Parking may be tricky as well as there are a lot of surrounding businesses.

Everyone has causes they care about, and many of us do our own advocacy in different ways, but not everyone wants to sign petitions while trying to cross the street or grab lunch. Today, one person became very insistent when I politely declined. He then accused me (and apparently others) of not wanting to engage because of his skin color, which was completely inappropriate and inaccurate. My decision had nothing to do with our skin .. I simply was not interested in signing anything or stopping to discuss a petition at that moment. It escalated to the point where two other women nearby also felt uncomfortable enough to respond. One said, "This is not the way to do it," and another said, "I don't even have money." It was unfortunate that his approach put people in that position. Just a heads up for anyone visiting: be prepared to be approached at the crosswalk, especially since the light can be long. On a positive note: the pizzeria itself was busy, but everyone inside was pleasant, I found a quiet corner to sit, the coffee was warm, and my $3 slice and $1.25 coffee hit the spot.
