A very interesting taste on food but also very good! I came in with my friend & we ordered the Rainbow Salad which was very colorful and very tasty. We shared the Black Pepper Beef too and that was fantastic!! The chimichurri sauce was REALLY GOOD and it compliment the steak very well. My drink.. which was the Mi-Lo was super fruity and delicious! I definitely could've had 2 of those, plus it came in a cute cat cup that kept the drink cold. The service was awesome! Very friendly establishment & it wasn't a ton of people there. The ambiance was quiet and intimate but not that quiet to where people could hear your conversation. We came to Spinning Bones on a Sunday at 2 pm. There was no wait which was great. This was our first time and we were pleasantly surprised! The food is fresh, beautiful, and delicious. We started with the corn fritters - crispy and clean with a strawberry sauce. We would like them better with a Japanese mayo/jalapeno or something savory as the fritters themselves are sweet but they are still delicious. We also got the crispy brussel sprouts which were REALLY good. Nice and crunchy with crispy onions on top with a salty aspect. Everyone really enjoyed their main entrees. We shared a Rainbow Rice Bowl which was very tasty and fresh. The flavor was heightened by adding sriracha to give it a little kick. We also shared a veggie burger with added jalapeno's. It was very good. I would've liked to add avocado to it but it was delicious regardless. It comes with Japanese potato salad which is very good as well - extremely creamy. The veggie burger was moist and hearty. The added jalapeno's helped bring it up a notch. The bun was soft and the condiments paired very well together. The ribs are tender and the bbq sauce is flavorful. The Japanese sesame coleslaw was sooo good! I must try to copy it! The DESSERTS! A friend chose this spot for a birthday celebration on a recent Saturday early evening. Located on Park Street, this restaurant has an interesting layout and setup. Arriving a little earlier than our reservations, we found a parking space around the corner and fed the meter for an additional 30 minutes. Walking along the way, we saw a bar, another restaurant, and on the same block and a variety of businesses across the street. There is a sizeable outdoor dining structure on the street that had several occupied tables since it was a nice sunny day. Being the first to arrive, I checked in with the host stand as we waited outside for the rest of our party. After the rest of our party arrived, they prepared a large table in the back dining area. Our gracious hosts had emailed us a link to the video from a local PBS show that features restaurants as recommended by viewers to we had a preview on what was on the menu. Here's what I tried: Appetizers, all shared 1. We made a reservation for three on Open Table for a late lunch on a Saturday and were surprised to find it not particularly crowded. The Michelin Bib Gourmand rating is what originally caught our attention and made us want to try this place. We knew that Spinning Bones specializes in meat, but we were also pleasantly surprised to see some Asian/Hawaiian-inspired flavors on the menu. Corn Fritters. A deliciously sweet and savory starter. It's like deep-fried cornbread with a side of strawberry jam. I could eat these forever. Chicken Lickin'. Think slightly bigger popcorn chicken-sized pieces. They are bread with mochiko flour, but I didn't taste a huge difference in texture between this and other popcorn chicken. 3 Little Pigs. We originally wanted Trip's Triple, but they were out of koji chicken (huge bummer!). The pork shoulder and ribs were super tender and juicy. It was just OK. Most likely not returning. I met friends for lunch this past Sunday (1/5/25). Spinning Bones is cute and comfortable. Don't you hate it when restaurants have uncomfortable tables and/or chairs? I do! We made reservations for 4. We shared the brussel sprouts, cauliflower and corn fritters. All were delicious! I had the sparkling water with POG (pineapple, oj and guava) , which I enjoyed. I ordered one of the specials - a breakfast burrito. The fried chicken sando was the first to arrive at the table. Next to arrive was the tsukune sando - after about 10-15 minutes. Then, about 25 minutes after the first entree arrived, the St. Louis Pork Ribs arrived. Finally, 45 minutes after the first dish was served to our table, I got my burrito. As a burrito - moreso a breakfast burrito - enthusiast, it was not a good burrito. It would have been fine had it not been for the yellow American cheese. That was not even melty. In conclusion, I will not be returning, unless I happen to be in Alameda and there is no where else to eat on the island because the wait for our food really killed our buzz from the drinks and yummy appetizers. I ate here during a early dinner reservation on Valentine's Day. I'm vegan and was underwhelmed by the limited options, even most of the salads and appetizers have meat and/or dairy. I got their veggie burger, I love a house made veggie patty, and this was ok. The texture and consistency was great plus it was cooked well, but very under seasoned. I was dining with someone who eats meat and dairy, and they commented their chicken was also under seasoned and bland. The fries I ordered with the burger came out last and I couldn't eat more then a pinch because they were so salty it made my mouth hurt. I think the ketchup that was served with the fries was store bought versus fresh made. The service, however, was immaculate and could not have been better! Both my friend and I are disabled and they were very accommodating despite us being late for our reservation. Our server also waited to approach us until we had her masks back on while dining outside, and we both super appreciated that consideration and thoughtfulness. Upon reading some of the other positive reviews, I noticed that they were all in regards to their meat dishes. I won't bore you with a list of the six items that we ordered but three of had a very tasty meal and got out of there or $90. One cola no other drinks. We sat outside. A few too many ambulances and firetrucks but less crowded than inside. The only negative comment I heard was that the chicken was served room temperature. Our first time there so that may have been by design? And the beer looked a bit overpriced so I passed on that. Overall a good dining experience and I want to go back. I came here yesterday for lunch since it was Alameda Restaurant Week and the lunch bento box sounded intriguing. The place was pretty busy but we got seated right away. It took a while for someone to get our drink order and even though we only ordered water it took a long time to receive the water. It didn't even arrive until after we placed our order. The seating arrangement is a bit weird if you're not lucky enough to snag your own table. We were initially seated at a table next to another table. One side of the table didn't have a chair, but a bench that you share with the person at the next table. This means that if you make the slightest movement, they'll feel it and vice versa. Luckily the people at the table to the other side of us were leaving so we asked to take that table instead. No bench at that one. I wanted the beef skewer off the ARW menu, but the server told me that they had JUST run out so I opted for the chicken wings since I'm not a fan of eggplant. The food was delicious and the jalapeño sauce that came with the wings was really good. I kept transferring my rice over to soak up the sauce. The portions were not that big. I'd say this is a nice snack or light lunch. I don't like onions but I ate up the pickled onions and jalapeños since I was still hungry. According to the Alameda Restaurant Week website, the bento box is supposed to come with a protein, 3 sides and a dessert. I'm assuming the one corn fritter in the middle of the bento box was considered a dessert? I was expecting butter mochi or something actually off the dessert menu. I heard this place was good, so I came here with friends and ordered the following: The Mi-Lo cocktail - Deliciously sweet drink that definitely tasted like fruit punch (as described on the menu). Came in a cute statue cup with a paper straw. Double Dutch - I liked this dish, and I think it's a good example of something that tastes good even though it's minimally flavored. The chicken was moist, while the ribs had a great texture with minimal fat. The roti was good, and I liked it with the barbecue sauce best. The jalapeños were on the side, so the food was not spicy. Chicken Fat Rice - There wasn't much flavor in this, so I would say it was basically like eating white rice (though this rice was actually yellow). Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte - The ganache was creamy and not too sweet. The crust helped to balance out the chocolate for an enjoyable experience. We had leftovers of the rice and the Double Dutch, so I specifically asked for one box to put everything in (as opposed to one box for each dish). They did bring me one box, which I appreciated because it wastes less packaging. I'd give the overall food/cocktail taste a 4, but their use of reusable dine-in dishware (see Eco Notes below) raises my overall score to a 5. It's got a good ambiance and the inside seating is cozy. Our waiter was really friendly and was the perfect amount of attentive. In terms of food, it was pretty good. We got the brussels sprouts to start, which were really yummy and unique. The sauce had a different flavor profile than whatever is typically put on fried Brussels and it was a really fresh take on what's otherwise a very common dish. My partner did think they were a little too soggy but I liked all the sauce. I got the mermaid rice which was a monthly special and it was interesting. There were lots of flavors going on and I liked it but it was also a little overwhelming as my entire dish. Maybe if it was shared between 4 people it would've been a better experience. I did like that there was tons of crab in the dish and it felt relatively healthy for a meal out. One thing I didn't love was that the rice was warm but the shrimp and crab were cold. I don't know why but that didn't sit well with me. I took home leftovers and when the whole dish was warmed up a little I enjoyed it a lot more. My partner got the chicken sandwich and the fried chicken itself was out of this world. He thought the bun was a little too big/dry and wished there were options for different sides. It comes with potato salad, which he doesn't eat, so he was left not quite full with the sandwich on its own. Overall, this was a good experience. Don't get me wrong - he wasn't a bad kid, he just wasn't a professional server. If he decides to do this for a living, here's some advice: 1. Before you seat more patrons, make sure you can take care of the ones who are already seated. 2. Mention the specials to everyone - not just some people. 3. Check on the table at least once after the food is dropped off to see if people need anything - like water. 4. If you're going to sell pate, provide some information on how you're supposed to eat it - i.e remove the fat render on top before eating it, etc. Recommendations for the owner: 1. The food was overpriced and just ok. 2. If you're going to serve a portion of chicken that large, make sure it's not dry or overcooked. 3. The menu could be more cohesive. Had a lovely dinner here! The SO and I showed up around 7pm on a Wednesday. It was a chilly rainy evening, but there were several tables of folks dining. I scanned the secret menu up front and we were seated quite quickly. Christian was our server and he was kind and prompt. What we got: *rotisserie cauliflower - perfectly cooked with good flavor! *corn fritters - sooo good possibly my favorite item lol. We came on a Wednesday evening and the place was packed so would definitely recommend making a reservation on open table ahead of time. The service wasn't great. The server could not recall what the specials were and left to find out and then took a long time to return. He also did not check up on us once after the food was served and we kept on having to flag him down for things we needed. For two, we ordered the beet salad, smashed potatoes, and the 3 little pigs. This place is worthy of its Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. They have the most delicious chicken I've ever eaten, seriously. Reservations are recommended. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young hipster with a blond 'fro and many piercings. Suddenly I felt very uncool, but this young dude was very polite and we felt very welcomed. Unfortunately, though the food was good, it wasn't what I was expecting or described on Check Please. I order their corn fritters and combo platter (forget what it was called on the menu). The fritters were just okay. They were similar to hush puppies and come with a strawberry sauce. The platter included their rotisserie chicken and ribs. The ribs were okay but not moist and meaty like I had expected. I had to apply bbq sauce on to my taste. The chicken was moist and delicious but the skin was not crispy as the Check Please participants raved about. In fact, my chicken skin was wet and soft. As soon as we walked past the rotisserie, my partner and I both began drooling. Use the QR code up front to take a look at their secret menu items not printed on their paper menus! Secret items we debated ordering include burrata and "sounder of swine" which comes with pork belly, ribs and Kalua pork. Ultimately we chose three little pigs instead because we wanted the pork shoulder. Best pork was the shoulder, followed by the kalua pork then the ribs. Notable side dishes: -Bacon edamame was really good, but nothing special and we probably wouldn't pay $8.00 for it next time. -Corn fritters were paired perfectly with the jam! -cauliflower is unexpectedly savory due to the mushrooms in the dish. 5/5 would order again. Spinning Bones is a cute restaurant with very friendly staff serving rotisserie chicken and meats (hence the spinning) with a twist (a little Indian flare in there). The menu is simple and generous. The chicken was humongous (like in a way that wasn't super pleasant) and the ribs were just ok. But my bone to pick (ha!) was the kids bento. It's a very cute idea but the pork it came with what pure grizzle. Like inedible. And it's not like it is 5 bucks. It's above 10. So for me, I won't return. The food was ok, the price is fair. 2nd timer and came here on Saturday at noon and it wasn't busy! This time we came for the burger which has been written about as some of the best burgers in the east bay. And it's true! The burger was incredibly high quality. Toasted soft buttons. Quality meat and cheese. Perfectly seasoned. 1000 island dressing that's not overwhelming. And amazing pickled red onions. You can also add fries for extra which isn't listed on the menu and the fries were perfectly crispy! I'll be back here for the burgers. Spinning Bones left a lot to be desired. Upon arrival, the waitress was literally eating at the door and acted annoyed that we showed up, which set a sour tone from the start. It took nearly 15 minutes just to get asked for our drinks, despite there only being about six parties in the whole place. Not exactly the kind of service you'd expect at a so-called "Michelin Star" establishment. For lunch, we ordered the salmon, double Dutch, and Brussels sprouts. Unfortunately, none of the flavors stood out--everything tasted bland. The ribs and chicken were tough, and the salmon had an unpleasant fishy taste, almost as if they had used the least desirable part. Honestly, I can't see how this place earned its Michelin status. Spending over $100 for lunch here felt like throwing money away. If this is what Michelin-quality dining is supposed to be, then I'll steer clear of any others on the list. This experience really made me question the credibility of the Michelin rating system. Came here at lunch on a Saturday. Saw them on PBS and thought it was about time to visit them. Ordered the Chicken lickin, Trips trio, and bones burger. The chicken Licken appetizer was probably the best thing we had. Absolutely perfectly cooked dark meat nuggets that are even better than Korean fried chicken. They were juicy and came out piping hot. Loved the sauces on the trips trio.... We only ordered this because it was our first time and it's pretty close to being a meat sampler. Chicken was very juicy for breast meat. The bones burger was the biggest disappointment. It was ordered medium and came out well. The bun and condiments were fine but the meat loses a lot of flavor and texture when over cooked. Looks like this spot is rightfully getting its praise. Came in a Saturday around 12 and it was empty, luckily we were just veering the crowd as by 12:30 almost all the tables were filled around us. I really wanted to try everything on the menu but settled for the corn fritters, double Dutch (pork ribs and chicken), poached salmon salad, and the cauliflower as a side. No complaints with anytime. I was just there with my GF and we over ordered with the double Dutch being a half chicken and half slab of ribs. Probably could've fed another two people but we were happy with plenty of leftovers. Corn fritters were great, crispy and nice salty crust to go with some strawberry jam. Salad May have been a tad overdressed but we had extra greens from the double Dutch to add in and balance it. Salmon was perfect and moist. Chicken was great, the chimichurri and bbq sauce are great with it. The ribs were my favorite, juicy and tender and came right off the bone without any hint Of dryness. I really appreciated them using a high quality rib that really shined. Roti and and sauces were great to cut through the fatty ribs as well as the pickled onions and jalapeños. Cauliflower was also really good with some great Asian fusion going on. If I had any complaint it's that that food didn't come out in a good order, the cauliflower came first followed a few minutes later by the main course and then the salad came about 5 min later. My physical therapist loves the food here so I decided to try me some rotisserie chicken and man I wasn't disappointed. The chicken is so tender and very flavorful. I got the Goddess salad to eat with my chicken which was super delicious. Our server was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. read more

This place was really good. Celebrated a friend's birthday. Meats cooked superbly, sauces were delicious, salads and appetizers creative and tasty. Everything top notch. Sort of casual place for the price. Plenty of outside dining. Server seemed a little overwhelmed because he had alot of tables but service was good. We'll go again. read more

Overall rating - OK to Good. Another person and I went there on a Thursday evening around 5:30pm. We were one of two occupied tables until an hour later when more customers stated to come in. Service was OK. Wait person seated us; came back later to take our order; served our orders after a short time, and left us alone after that. Ambiance was OK for mid-week, nothing to brag about. We shared three dishes: KOJI CHICKEN, T. LOUIS PORK RIBS, and CHIX FAT RICE. Food quality ranged from OK to good but nothing great...definitely nothing like what was shown or raved about on Check Please. Temperature of all dishes ranged from luke warm to room temp. Neither the chicken nor the ribs looked or tasted like they just came off "rotating on spits over high heat". The Koji marinate on the chicken was good and different, as was the yellow curry salt rub on the ribs. The chicken ranged from moist to a little dry but not juicy. Same for the ribs. Chix Fat rice had only a few pieces of crispy chicken skin. The taste was OK. We did not finish this dish. The salad that came with the chicken order was good as was the bread. The cabbage slaw that came with the ribs was just ok. We didn't finish it. We were there primarily to talk. So, the lack of attention from the wait person was OK...as was the just OK quality of the food. To be fair, there was only one wait person. So, when the place started filling up, he was busy just taking orders and bringing out the food. For the price, it was a disappointing experience. My brother had a reservation for birthday lunch on a Saturday afternon. We waited patirntly, and the servers graciously seated us a table near the entrance. Dining area is very compact and there is outside seating available. It was a fair day sunny but also a light breeze wind. Alameda is a very quiet, calm town. It has a diverse neighborhood. Very modern with Korean & Japanese and American concept of dining experience. Clean, organized, very inviting and welcoming too. Fantastic customer service. Service is fast, but doesn't feel rushed which is a good thing. 5/5 for both ambiance & customer service. Food selection of their menu is plenty for omnivores, and vegetarians. We came here hungry which is a bad thing but it got compensated by excellent and fantastic food. All of the menu items were perfectly executed from sauces, slow-rotisserie chicken, pork shoulder, beef tri-tip, cabbage slaw with watermelon radish, roti with, the pineapple fried rice buttered eggs. Everything was moist, juicy meats, dips complemented the whole meal. Salads were refreshing, full of flavor and dressings gave light to every ingredients. Every food item in a dish had a purpose. Everything had harmony with the dish itself. The sparkling pog was great as it should be. Def no cheating either on ingredients for the non-alcoholic cocktail. This restaurant has 4 gourmande michelin because their cooking techniques coming up with delicious dishes that are accessible to the general public on affordable price points. This is a great list but very competitive in Alameda. Spinning Bones is an excellent restaurant as everything is delicious. 5/5. I highly recommend this restaurant because everything that Chef Mike Yamura makes is excellent. The food is affordable for groups of 1 to more people. 5 dishes shared by 5 persons for $240 plus tip is a great value with delicious food. I appreciate these businesses and restaurants. I had the chicken platter and it wasn't that great. The chicken was dry. The salad was pretty good. Also tired all of the desserts, none of them were worth it. Overall, if I were in the area and they weren't other options I might try again. The server was pretty good. The ambiance not so much. The seating is tight and if you are sat at the table next to the bathroom, be prepared to be constantly interrupted by passersby's and staff. read more

Special new Asian kind of plane with great flavors and unique take on tastes and textures. The popcorn chicken is great. Salads are fresh and tasty. The fried chicken sandwich was good, but a wee bit greasy. It's meant to be... I will be back to try their other dishes. read more
