Classic Po'Boy
Samantha J.

I placed the order via door dash for pick up so I can't speak too much to the service but I could see the kitchen may have been overwhelmed once we arrived to grab our order. That said, the food was on point! The shrimp in the classic po boy was cooked to absolute perfection. Crispy on the outside with succulent, juicy shrimp on the inside. The bread tasted fresh and came with a good balance of sauce, tomato, and pickles. The crab fries were well portioned and TASY!! I will definitely be back for these!

This was a DoorDash order- Seafood from this place is 10/10 but I was very disappointed with their side dishes. I ordered jambalaya and it missed the mark. Tomato disguised as links. It broke my heart. . Brussel sprouts however were amazing if you like them sweet.

Crawfish Pasta
Amani S.

I ordered to go and was excited when I opened the lid but was then disappointed when I started eating. While it was flavorful there was not one piece of crawfish in the pasta which basically defeated the purpose of ordering. I will try again but I hope something like this doesn't happen again.

Always hits the spot! This time, I wanted a deconstructed WhoDat and man, was it good! Unfortunately, I inhaled it so quickly, I forgot to take pix! LOL Thanks to the always wonderful staff!

While you won't be fooled into thinking you're in Coop's, in New Orleans, the food at Alameda's own Southern Comfort Kitchen is a loving reminder to our times in the Big Easy. The fried oyster po-boy was an excellent execution of the dish, although the hush puppies were a little more like Jiffy corn muffins than I remember from Bourbon Street. The very basic, even austere, cafeteria setting reminds me of family-run places down south. Everything that we tried, and the very helpful and personable staff, makes it easy to return.

We usually go to Castro valley but this Alameda location didn't miss!!!! Right out the Webster tube legit parking, outside dining and a drive through (chefs kiss) Brought my sister last week and she's hooked!!! I found my new location closer to home The hospitality AMAZING The FOOD MATCHES THE SERVICE Anything on the menu is a go to for me and now Alameda is too See you soon Mark Anthony and Staff

I have eaten several times at Southern Comfort Kitchen Castro Valley and their Food Truck!!! I was aware this location opened up in Alameda 5 months ago. I rolled there today for Dinner and walked in . They were Busy as they have a Drive thru also. They seemed Over Whelmed with the Door Dash Orders . Some of the Kitchen Staff seemed undertrained. Their front Counter staff were stressed out and let the Door Dash Drivers know it . When it was my turn I Ordered a Large Bowl of Gumbo and Catfish and Fries Platter!!! My Order was 113 I waited 30 Minutes for my order and people that ordered after me were getting the orders before me WTF? Dining Room was pretty Dirty!!! Floors needed to be Swept and Tables wiped down. It was Night and Day from their Castro Valley Location!!! When I did get my food ! The Gumbo was Good!!! Just could have been hotter. The Catfish was Fried to Perfection!!! French Fries were Salted to Heavily!!! For these Reasons this is not a Baller On A Budget Approved Establishment

Ive been here once before while working out in alameda and i fell in love with everything! i came in tonight after work super excited to come here again and have my significant other try this out because he is more of a foodie than me. got there about 9:45 ordered a bit of everything to try and waited about 5 minutes for our food once we got to the window. it's unfortunate to say my 3 stars are due to the very tall gentleman at the window who seemed annoyed at the fact we were there even though they close at 11..... i remembered his friendly face from last time i came here but he was so rude this time... as we finished ordering i said thank you and he forgot to stop the intercom and i heard what he had to say about us "mannn why the f** do people" etc i couldnt catch the rest but i was so shocked at that to begin with.... like wow how rude couldnt even wait to let go of the button before talking smack. once we pulled up i paid, he was kind for a bit and then back to the bitter attitude. he forgot my drink until i had to ask for it , forgot my straw so i asked him for it and then i proceeded to check the bag to make sure there were forks and he had already closed the window, when i got his attention he looked SOOO bothered it made me uncomfortable. i even threw in a "im sorry if its not too much to ask can i get a fork" and he handed me them and proceeded to slam the window in my face loudly. definitely didnt shut casually because the first time it didnt slam like that. overwll the food is so delicious but next time i'll save myself the trip across the bridge. wont be coming back to this location at all. OH and i forgot to mention i made sure to ask for no pickles and they still threw them on there.

Who Dat Shrimp
Gaylord G.

We had the cashier chose 3 of the best meals 50/50 w/catfish, shrimp and over the fries crab! 100% awesome Who Dat Shrimp with fries. Over the top with creamy creole sauce. A must order Crawfish Etouffee. Omg just like orleans! The bomb! And to end the meal being Sunday BEIGNETS. What a way to end a great meal. It was nice and quiet and ambiance was relaxing. Alameda folks, what you waiting for! There's a parking lot and drive thru. We are definitely coming back! Keep up the great food and service!

5 star review because of the amazing customer service! Guy at the counter was so nice and helpful! Food was great, just as it is on the truck and at the Castro Valley location! Finally made it in on a Sunday to get beignets and yum!! The crawfish étouffée is always a hit! The gumbo was different than what we are use to...but still good. Location is easy to locate. Good amount of seating. Small parking lot behind building. Love that they close later even on a Sunday.

Red beans & rice

My dining buddy took me to the Alameda's Southern Comfort Kitchen. More parking as compared to the Castro Valley store. Equally friendly staff and comparable menu. My go to menu item is the fried oysters and red beans & rice. Ordinarily at the CV ordering the fried oysters without fries, they offer an extra oyster in its place, here they offer side items such as salad the eventually discovered they were out so they offered several oysters as an accommodation. I guess it worked out well at the end. Having the oysters and red beans & rice was definitely too much for my appetite. So leftover they became. Overall friendly staff, speedy food delivery, the only knock is better ventilation as it was a warm day and the dining room was warm and stuffy. I would return if I'm in the neighborhood.

Nice local spot in Alameda. Shares outdoor patio with Subway. There is parking, very limited spaces. Ordered Catfish Po boy with cajun fries. Looked and tasted amazing! Sauce was the main savory topping on my catfish! Sandwich was moist and a great balance of flavor. Sauce is flavorfully scrumptious. Great amount of food for a meal. Catfish 9/10 Fries 9/10 Sauce 10/10 Sandwich 10/10 There were 3 gentlemen working at the time I ordered. A cashier, assisted person helping and a cook. Cashier can work on his customer service but that doesn't matter cause it's the food taste and cleanliness that matters to me.

Shrimp Po Boy
Nadav M.

I love southern cooking. Don't know if this case it's the location or the style. Jambalaya and a shrimp po boy. The po boy was very good and had a nice kick to it. Shrimp was really on the salty side. The bread was little off but it's passable. Jambalaya looked promising and it's good but I do feel like salt upstages everything. The chicken and the sausage were there, not much sausage. The peppers and celery were there. Service was straightforward as I was only picking up the food. A little too strong with the salt. They do have many many options from chicken sandwiches to waffles.

When we got there we confirmed with the waitress again and she said it was fresh but it was not only frozen but borderline inedible and I'm shocked they served something that was essentially rotting from the inside out. The inside was BLACK and soggy!! Chinese all you can eat buffets have better quality than this. It was actually so bad I couldn't even continue eating it. The price was atrocious for that as well ($25 for 1lb, $22 for half). Service was just as bad. The two waitresses seemed like they hated being there and took forever to get us menus, took even longer to take our order and she just sat behind the counter and ate instead of bringing us water or utensils. They never once came back to check in on us after dropping the food off. The catfish was BLAND despite it looking seasoned which was shocking and the short ribs looked and tasted boiled as you can see in the photo. Just overall horrible quality. I'm actually sad about this spot! Just moved to the east bay from sf and it looked promising. Just was an unfortunate disappointment.

Here's where you can do that, at great value imo for $44 pp. I come in every other month or so for that AYCE $44 dinner and really enjoy the Bulgogi and the LA beef style short rib, which you cook yourself. Additionally, they have a wide variety of sides you can order as well. My favorite is the kimchi soup, which is DELICIOUS, as well as their house boneless fried chicken. Alyssa just put me on the radish wraps, so I like to go back-and-forth between those and the lettuce wraps with the meat. Don't sleep on the cheese corn either! Parking is a bit difficult but we managed to find street parking a block away. Wasn't too crowded and there was plenty of seating inside. You order first and you find a table to sit, and they bring out the food to you. Self serve water is available. The food came out pretty quick! Thoughts: - Lobster roll (classic) was delicious! Generous amount of lobster. Would definitely get this again. Chips weren't too great though. - Fried shrimp basket was nice. Shrimp was crispy and tasty. Fries were also very crispy and flavorful. The sauces go well with the shrimp/fries. Coleslaw isn't the best though. - The crab nachos were surprisingly good. A nice cheese sauce combo with pico/avocado crema and a good amount of crab. - Garlic noodles were fine, nothing standout about them. - Mix and match basket with catfish, cod, and calamari (not pictured): Catfish was solid (would highly recommend, one of the favorites of the meal!), but would pass on the cod and calamari - a bit dry/fishy. Would recommend for a casual spot for seafood and a nice view!

Anyone remember the Jack London Village that they tore down to build this end of the development? Anyways - this is a fast casual type spot, where you order from the counter, place the little number sign on your table and wait for it to be delivered. The menu is your standard seafood joint by the water type, with all the usual suspects represented. Fried fish, shrimp, chowder, seafood pastas--if you've ever been to a seaside seafood joint, chances are good that the menu here is exactly like the one you remember seeing at the countless other places like this one. I noticed right off the bat that their pricing structure was on the high side - with a $17 burger and fries option, with the bulk of the fried seafood options in the $22-25 range. A cheaper choice might be the $16 fish tacos (two of them) but I kind of draw the line at paying $8 for a single taco. Our table ordered a few of the fried options plus a few soda beverages. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and I noticed that the silver metal trays that the food comes on is a bit on the small side, especially considering the prices for each dish. The fried shrimp dish was a big scoop of mega-salty french fries, and 3 average sized deep fried shrimp. Yes - 3 as in 1, 2, 3. That's what - $7+ a shrimp? The two fried fish platters weren't much better portion-wise. My deep fried cod consisted of three modest sized fish-fingers, and not the single luscious chunk of perfectly fried cod I had imagined in my head when ordering. They were fine - but very average and nothing that stood out as life-changing or something to write home about. As mentioned earlier, they must be employing the Little Rascals method where they over salt everything, in hopes that you'll order another beverage to wash down the copious mounts of sodium (I figure about 4+ days worth). The fried catfish platter that rounded out our order was more of the same - thin meager portions of fish on a large bed of mega-salted fries. Small plastic containers of generic pre-made tartar sauce and coleslaw can with each platter. The coleslaw was fine - just very forgettable and perhaps a tad on the flavorless/watery side. All said, was it okay? Yes. Was it anything outstanding that I'd crave and plan my return to have again? No. It is in line with touristy by-the-Sea seafood places that charge an extra couple of bucks because they're "on the water"? Pretty much. You're paying for the view and the 'scene' of sitting on the patio out front to people watch, and not for the food. I kind of hate these places and normally try my best to stay away from them, but every once in awhile, you gotta put on your tourist hat and join the mindless flock. A meager 2 stars outta 5 from me. Instead, I'd stroll around this area on a Sunday when they hold the farmer's market (again - is not what it used to be) and then drive through the tube to Alameda where great dining spots are numerous on Park Street. You can stop at Crab Cove and Crown Beach on the way, for more touristy sightseeing.

It was so good that we came back the next day before leaving town just to have it again. Service was about an 8/10. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was due to one moment that didn't sit right with me. I watched a waitress bring out fries to a guest, the guest started eating them, and then she came back to say it was a mistake and took them away after he was already halfway through. That just didn't feel very service-oriented. In a situation like that, it would have been better to acknowledge the mistake and let the guest keep the fries on the house. Taking back half-eaten food felt like poor judgment. That said, the overall experience was still very positive.
