Probably one of the worst seafood and dining experiences I've ever had honestly and I reallllly had high hopes for this place. First off, we called ahead to make sure they had fresh crawfish over the phone they said it was in season and fresh. When we got there we confirmed with the waitress again and she said it was fresh but it was not only frozen but borderline inedible and I'm shocked they served something that was essentially rotting from the inside out. The inside was BLACK and soggy!! Chinese all you can eat buffets have better quality than this. It was actually so bad I couldn't even continue eating it. The price was atrocious for that as well ($25 for 1lb, $22 for half). Service was just as bad. The two waitresses seemed like they hated being there and took forever to get us menus, took even longer to take our order and she just sat behind the counter and ate instead of bringing us water or utensils. They never once came back to check in on us after dropping the food off. The catfish was BLAND despite it looking seasoned which was shocking and the short ribs looked and tasted boiled as you can see in the photo. Just overall horrible quality. Hang Ten is easily one of my top three Asian style crab boil spots. My other two favorites are Lemon Pepper in Hayward and Claw Shack in San Jose, but Hang Ten definitely holds its own. My go-to order here is the Dungeness crab with the Steph Curry sauce. It has this Thai yellow curry flavor that's super unique and really tasty. I usually go for spicy, which has a nice kick, but this time I tried extra spicy and it was still manageable in a good way. One thing I really like about Hang Ten is that their sauces are thick enough to actually cling to the seafood, which makes every bite flavorful. The only downside is that out of my top three spots, this one has the oiliest sauce. It's a bit heavy and can leave you feeling kind of weighed down afterwards. I wish it was more like Lemon Pepper, where you barely taste any oil or butter. Still, that Steph Curry sauce flavor keeps me coming back. Their garlic noodles are also really solid, probably my second favorite anywhere. They've got great umami flavor without being too oyster sauce heavy, just garlicky with a touch of sweetness. The only bummer is that they used to have a rewards system, and when I tried giving my number yesterday, they said the company that ran it shut down, so all my saved points are gone. That was disappointing. Overall, Hang Ten is still a great spot for flavorful seafood boils, but now that I've discovered Lemon Pepper, I'll probably come here a little less often. read more

What an amazing experience we had at Hang Ten Boiler! We came out for a Halloween Market and decided to grab lunch after stumbling upon this place, we walked by and couldn't resist the garlicky, buttery cajun notes wafting in the air. Small hole-in-the-wall type of interior with lots of sports decor and a cozy dining area with several wooden dining tables. They had a couple televisions playing varying sports channels , I could see this as a place to hang out and watch a game if sports is your kind of thing. Upon arrival we were seated within minutes. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our luncheon, and even helped us decide which flavor to go with for our shrimp. We decided on the curry sauce, and we were so happy we did. I'm a sauce person and this is one of the most unique flavor profiles I've ever had for a seafood boil! We picked the medium spice flavor for our shrimp and it was just right, next time we would go spicier. Other highlights of our meal included the hang ten fries, tender bites of savory and smokey meat on top of fries, da dub basket, with fried shrimp, fried catfish, and fried oyster, we upgraded the side to garlic noodles. I love the service they have, friendly and kind. However, they do auto charge tips even for take out orders, but I understand. Gas is $6 a gallon. I actually even added more tip. One thing I do hope is that they tell you the total includes the tip already even for take out orders. The hangten sauce is always fire and my go-to. read more

I've known about Hang Ten but didn't know that they offered a Hawaiian menu and not just a Cajun seafood menu, which is not a preference of mine. Lot of sports décors on the wall and I knew this was the home of "We Believe" for you Warrior fans. Arriving at 12:30 on a Thursday, there were about three tables of diners, but there were a bunch of students from the Alameda High ordering lunch with a couple dining in. We were promptly seated and we checked out menu and placed our order. Lumpia - ten pieces of homemade lumpias to an order with sweet chili dipping sauce Garlic Fries - thin fries in a garlic sauce Garlic Noodles - a large portion. This was so tasty. Would definitely order again. Katsu Chicken with mac salad and broccoli - Chicken was moist and had a nice crispy batter Kalbi ribs with mac salad - Ribs were tender and good portion. I came in a group of 4, where we split the Hang Ten fries, two people ordered individual plates, and I shared Jordan's combo with one other person. The Hang Ten fries were deep fried to perfection and the kalua pork was salty and tender. They give you a big squeeze bottle of aioli sauce if you want more too. The portions for all of the entrees were MASSIVE! The Jordan's combo could definitely fill more than two people and you'd have leftovers to take home! I had it with the Hang Ten (Cajun) flavor and medium spicy. It was so delicious and spicier than I expected! It was even spicier and more flavorful the next day as leftovers. I love love love the Steph Curry and Hang Ten sauces - their flavor profiles are super unique and unlike any other I've had at a seafood boil restaurant. The drinks, however, are pricey (sodas are sold by the can with no refills). Hang Ten is a hip spot. Like many other Cajun/seafood boil places, there are signatures on the walls and good music playing. It can get a bit rowdy, especially on Warriors game nights. This makes it a super fun spot though and a must-be location for good dinner and rooting for the team. The service is iffy. Sometimes we are seated and served quickly with zero complaint. Other times, we end up waiting for over 20 minutes for a water refill or a request for lemons, even on a non-busy night. The wait-staff are truly either phenomenal or grumpy. This used to the place we get Hawaiian and Cajun food. After a couple experiences where the take out food was subpar, we decided to dine in tonight. The dine in experience confirms our experience and more. Let's start with the physical location. Where we were seated reeks and it either came from under the bench or the storage space behind a door (not the bathroom). This made it so unpleasant to eat. Throughout the night, they didn't even come by to check in on us or to ask if we needed more water - and yet we have to pay service charge because we were a part of 5 or more. I wouldn't mind the two issues above as much if the food was fabulous. But it was far from that. The loco moco was absolutely terrible - burger patties that are hard, chewy, and the gravy was nothing but brown colored sauce. The kalbi was so chewy that even Trader Joe's kalbi was at least 5x better. Only thing that was palatable to me was fried catfish and calamari (even then they aren't enough to bring me back as I can find better elsewhere). Time to up the game and bring back the great food, or I don't think this place is going to last long. read more

Since Dungeness crab season had just recently started, my friends and I considered doing a crab boil at home. However, the thought of picking up fresh crabs from the store or pier, gathering all the seasonings and equipment, and prepping for a large group of ten felt like way too much work. After dining at Hang Ten Boiler, I can confidently say I have no regrets about choosing to go out instead. We called Hang Ten a day in advance to see if they could accommodate our party of ten. They told us we'd be put on a waitlist, since they don't take reservations. To be honest, I'm sure exactly what the difference is. Fortunately, when we showed up on Friday at 6:00 p.m., the restaurant was nearly empty, and we were seated right away at a large combined table. A heads-up about the menu: the seafood prices aren't listed, just "MP" (market price). I looked around for a chalkboard or something displaying the prices but didn't see one. In hindsight, we probably should've just asked, but be aware that ordering crab is much pricier than shrimp. My wife and I shared a 2 lb. bag of shrimp and clams, which came out to $55. Meanwhile, our friends, who shared a bag that included crab, ended up paying over $100. It's a lot of food, but don't expect it to be cheap. Come with a big appetite or plan for leftovers. As for the food itself, it was hit or miss. Most of the shrimp were well-cooked and plump, but the clams were shriveled, tiny, and flavorless. The corn soaked up all the broth's flavor and was delicious, and I'd definitely recommend getting hot links if you like sausage in your seafood boil. Be warned: the spice levels here are intense! I usually handle spice well, but even the medium was pushing it for me. My friends ordered spicy, and after one bite, I had to tap out. This meal will put you in a food coma. The seafood boil is heavy, and they do not hold back on the butter. Despite the plastic bibs and gloves they provide, expect a mess--be mindful of what you wear! Because our group was so large and we had so many different orders, they forgot to bring over one of the included bowl of rice. When we asked about it, they eventually brought it over, but later, we realized it had been added to the bill as an extra charge. We also tried a few sides--Cajun fries, garlic noodles, and mac salad. All were solid, but the garlic noodles were the clear favorite. Overall, Hang Ten is a solid spot for a seafood boil, but it comes with a few caveats: the prices aren't transparent, the food is rich and messy, and service can be a little spotty. I came back on a Friday night since it's been years, I was ready to feast. I'm not sure what happened but the food and service was not it. There were about two servers and throughout the evening, ours just wasn't attentive. Now onto the food, I will say the shrimp were huge but the flavor kind of made me sick to my stomach. I am a sauce girl, I love sauce and I dip everything in sauce. If I end up with extra you bet I'm putting that in my carbs. The sauce and some sweet corn? Yummy combo. Last time I went with my family we got garlic butter sauce which was great. Hang Ten sauce was saltier, but also delicious and equally garlicky. In comparison, garlic butter feels lighter and "cleaner". But let's be honest, seafood boil is not meant to feel clean. When you get seafood boil it's time for butter and feasting! Garlic noodles were great. They're garlicky and sweet. I recently returned for a birthday meal and got the Cajun sauce over shrimp...which I thoroughly enjoyed and am drooling thinking about it. Again, as a sauce girl I am drenching my rice and noodles in that sauce. 4.5/5: Jordan's combo 2lbs shrimp and 1 lb clams at market price was about $55. They didn't have the Steph Curry sauce so we had the hang 10 special is the Cajun flavor. The shrimp was extremely fresh one of the freshest I've had from a seafood place and I'm pretty sure they gave more than 1 pound of clam! We got medium spicy and it hit just perfectly. There was a ton of garlic in the sauce. 4/5 side of the garlic noodles. Appreciate that they have it in a smaller portion. liked that there was a hint of sweetness to it, but thought it could've used more garlic flavor. Service was good, nothing to really comment on. Liked that they had a lot of tvs. There was also a lot of workers for such a small shop. Beware though, only one bathroom! Sadly, I have to admit that I was quite disappointed. $20/lb for crawfish that tasted pre-frozen and rubbery. The corn had a sour taste as if it had gone bad, so we ended up tossing all of it. The shrimp was also $20/lb, still very expensive, but more decent in quality than the other items. The only true saving grace were the garlic noodles, which I would give a 7/10. I remember Hang Ten being very good. We even skipped past a few Cajun restaurants that were much closer to where we live. Unfortunately, we just didn't feel it this time. The rice tasted stale as did some of the kalbi. The peanut noodles were good, but not amazing as the menu promised. I came in around 6:55 PM today and stood at the front to wait for a table. I was the only person in line waiting for a table. Eventually, a few more parties showed up and the staff finally had a chance to address all of us waiting. Despite being the first in line waiting for a table, the staff skipped past me and seated the group who came behind me. Based on the conversation and hugs, I learned that the girl from that group that got seated first works at Hang Ten. I mentioned to the staff that my friend and I were in line first but she just stared at us blankly. She sat the other group and then came back to seat us. Food was good but service sucked. We kept having to ask multiple times for things (gloves, lime, sides, check, etc). This has been the second time where this has happened within the past few weeks I've been here. Revisiting our favorite Hawaii/cajun spot. We were seated right away even though the place was packed and we were just catching the tail end of the local high schools students lunch break. As soon as they all left we had the place to ourselves. Our server Eve/Evessa was awesome! She had trouble taking out because we were ordering for here and to go orders. And we got our drinks, apps and shrimps quickly. We all had shrimp (headless and head on with garlic butter and mild kick ) they provide bibs and gloves upon request as well as lemons and s&p. If we only lived nearby we definitely would come by here all the time but whenever we are in the area it's a must stop. Their food never disappoints. The employees are always so nice and provide excellent service and the ambience even though it's small it has that good vibes feel and their playlist is on point too.
